Service shifter, service 4wd, shifter gets put into gear in any weather under 32 degrees f and the shifter will not shift into a particular gear. All lights on the shifter will light up. The car will free rev. If you leave the car running for 15 to 30 minutes. The engine/trans/servos warm up, and the car is now able to shift into gear. This issue only happens in cold weather. We have lost all convidence in driving our car in the pacific northwest. We've brought the car to Jeep, they replaced parts, replaced shifter wiring, its been back to Jeep dealer 3 times. They cannot fix the issue. There should be a electrical shifter or wiring harness recall of some kind.

1) the shifter lights came on driving in from town to my house, appx. 10 miles, took a picture of all the lights on on the shifter. 1-5-2021. Wife turn off and on at home and lights didn't light up after they reset. Have not taken in to dealer as of1-6-2021. 2) the dome lights stop working, all of them, took it in to dealer, they said the driver visor has a short so as long as I leave the fuse to the driver side visor off the rest of the light would work, new visor cost over $500 so I opted to wait till I could afford it, I have the bumper to bumper extended warranty, paid extra $4500 as long as I owe the darn thing I thought it would fix thing like this, no it does not. There is a recall on the visor wiring issue but mine was not covered. 2 month later dome lights ho out again?? call dealer and tell about it, say replace the left side visor fuse, tried it blows out, call again, they tell don't replace fuse any more?? left with no dome lightfor now. 3) transmission shifting issue in mountains, going uphill, had to pull over to slowly restart the shifting process, mine you this was a replacement transmission covered by warranty, this incident issued only once and starting shifting ok,didn't take to dealer, almost like what for, they won't do nothing but reset. In conclusion if I could return and get some return on it I would, even at a loss mostly likely trading in for a Honda. Too dangerous for my wife to drive. Never again no Chrysler products. Jeep was a very big disappointment.

I keep having service shifter pop up where the speedometer is. It originally popped up about 3 months after I purchased the vehicle. It pops up at random times while the vehicle is moving. I have taken the vehicle in 3 times to have it looked at. The first time they replaced a wiring harness. The second time they said nothing is wrong. And the third time they cleaned a connector. After all three times I took the vehicle in the car was fine for about a month, then the message came back.

I bought a 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude with 56,000. I had it for 1 day before I got a service shifter warning on my dashboard and all of the lights on the shifter lit up red. I called the dealership and they told me to come in right away, but the light went off when I turned the car off. The light didn't come back on for a few week, but now it comes on everyday. I have read several forums about people having the same issues with their 2016-2019 Jeeps, and even after getting the wiring and shifter replaced the issue will come back. I've read about people whose car gets stuck in gear and they can't put it into drive or park. This needs to be looked into because people cannot afford to keep paying to have the issue fixed when it isn't really getting fixed and nobody knows why.
Service shifter light comes on while driving and all shifter lights come on (park, reverse, drive, etc. All lit up at once) replacement needed is shifter bezel and wiring harness. Dealer says its a known issue that is not covered by Jeep warranty, but is very common. Vehicle has less than 40,000 miles on it.
While driving the service shifter message displayed on the dash and the shifter had red light light up for park reverse neutral drive and manual. Upon more research many people have complained about this issue and having to have the entire shifter assembly and wiring harness replaced.
On October 20, 2020, I took my vehicle to the Jeep dealership where it was purchased in response to a service shifter warning indicator. The dealership indicated that the shifter bezel and wiring harness would need to be replaced and completed the repair earlier today at a cost of $325. 88. Despite having purchased a supplemental service protection plan through asc, I was informed that the warranty claim had been denied as the agreement does not have coverage on wiring or wiring harnesses and that the bezel is considered a body part by the manufacturer which is not coverable. most disturbing, based upon a review of complaints generated following a google search, this appears to be a common problem that has affected a number of Jeeps since at least 2014. I'm at a loss as to why this is being treated like a cosmetic repair when this component is critical to the operation of the vehicle and has been a recurrent issue for over five years. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed in how this issue is being addressed by Jeepboth in terms of covering these repairs and correcting the underlying issues that are causing the problem.
While driving on a highway, service shifter warning displayed and all indicator lights were lit (park, neutral, reverse, drive). This caused panic and the driver pulled over to turn off the engine. A dealership diagnosis is short in wiring. This manufacturer defect has caused wrecks and needs to be recalled by Jeep.
Tl the contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the steering wheel made an abnormal noise and vibrated while driving. The contact also stated that the rack and pinion and steering shaft also made an abnormal noise while driving. The power train-automatic transmission, engine, service brakes and hydraulic, electronic system wiring cable under hood, seat, air bags warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,500.

The service shifter light kept coming on while driving due to a faulty wiring harness and all gears lit up red. I was charged $375 to have it fixed, but if you search the forums it it is happening to everyone with a 2017 Jeep Cherokee.
The service shifter light was coming on. All the lights on the gear shift were lit up. And the emergency brake kept applying on its own. This happened several times over the course of time. I took it to the dealership and it cost me almost $400 to replace the bezel and wiring harness. The service tech at the dealership said we were lucky that the emergency brake didn't apply while going at higher speeds.
The warning light came on multiple times (first day 10/4/2019 driving locally), regarding servicing the transmission, brake and airbag after starting and in a non-moving mode. On the second day of ownership 10/5/2019, I took it to the closest Jeep dealership to have them check on the warning light. The tech advisor gave me a print out of all the error codes showing (quite a few). On the sixth day 10-10-2019, I only had driven it locally when the transmission slipped out of the drive gear when I was at a stop sign. The drive transmission wasn't engaging when I pressed the gas pedal. I put it in park and then back into drive, and it then went forward. I drove home, and I parked the Jeep in my yard. I didn't drive it again with a real concern that the Jeep wasn't safe to drive and not wanting to get stranded along a road somewhere. In 11/2019, I next drove the Jeep in my attempt to get it to the dealership service department to have the diagnostics done to find out the exact issues. The transmission did the same thing and slipped out of drive in busy stop and go traffic in route on a 5 lane highway at a traffic light after stopping and giving gas to move forward. This time it took four attempts (placing in park and then drive) before the Jeep would drive forward. I made it to the dealership on a prayer five minutes further down the road. The final diagnosis (12/18-2019) was that the Jeep needs a transmission/engine wiring harness. there is a brake in the transmission control module circuit for communication and depending on how the engine flexs, the communication line drops out and causes the tcm to go offline. On 4/12/2020, I took photos of the code flashing (see attached images). It wouldn't start. One week later, it started and I drove it in my yard to park it farther out of my main driveway. There it has sat for a few months.
shifter bezel and wiring requires replacement according to eide Chrysler service techs shift module not functioning replaced by eide Chrysler twice vehicle randomly swaps between r/n/d while driving vehicle has difficult time starting check engine light code p0128 coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature ocaused vehicle to enter limp mode on the interstate, requiring a tow truck vehicle cannot achieve more than 8mpg in any mode service airbags / airbag malfunction randomly pops up on dash information center vehicle was placed in reverse and the transmission drove the vehicle forward, causing an accident vehicle towed to eide Chrysler 3/15/2020 these issues keep coming up and "its not under warranty". When will Chrysler recognize this is a major problem and recall?.
Vehicle bought Dec/2019. 2 months later while driving highway speeds service shifter light came on, pulled vehicle over and waited a few minutes vehicle started back up no light. March 2020, driving in town vehicle decelerated and told to put vehicle in park, all lights came on and service shifter message appeared again. Vehicle started after a little bit and since I was very close to home I parked it in the driveway. Called a certified dealer to discuss issue. Replaced shift bezel and wiring harness. Didnt solve the issue. Couldnt simulate my issue at the dealership diagnostic. Was told if it happens again may need an entire shifter ($1000+). How is something so serious, that can apply your emergency brake while at driving speed, or decelerate you when in a dangerous situation not be recalled? how many complaints have been filed? this is not right.
Service shifter warning appears in main console display which replaces your digital speed indicator. Will not disappear until you stop and restart car. Happens while moving. After googling the issue appears quite a few others have this same problem. Is just distracting if youre on the highway with your current speed suddenly replaced with a warning. As per others on google with the same issue. . Had to have the shifter bezel and wiring harness replaced.
2017 Jeep Cherokee service shifter light started coming on randomly at 28,000 miles. Usually turning off the car and cranking it back up would make the service shifter light go away. Now after only owning the car for 2 years it is starting to shift out of gear and the service shifter light stays on most of the time. Sometimes driving down the road and the shifter light will pop on out of nowhere. In the two years I've owned it I've only put 20,000 miles on it. Left the dealership today to find out this part is not covered in the powertrain warranty. I've gotten one quote for $800 to replace the shifter bezel and wiring harness. This is a 2017 with only 40,000 miles. All over the internet Jeep owners tell of an identical story with their Jeeps. Jeep needs to own up to this being a faulty part. I should not have to spend this much money to fix a faulty part. Will never buy a Jeep again.
Driving along, "service transmission" light came on. At the next red light, when I proceeded to go, engine revved up and the car moved extremely slow like it wasn't in gear. This happen every time I stopped and started on the return home and the light went out. I drove it again and the same thing happen. Had it serviced at dealer and they said it was a short in wiring harness that goes to the transmission control module. See code s55 pertaining to transmission may shift unexpectedly to neutral. 2014 & 2015 Jeep Cherokee dated Aug. 6, 2106.
Message "service shifter" pops up on the instrument panel, and a series of red alert lights appear next to every gear on the automatic transmission shifter lever. . Read more...
When starting vehicle a "service shifter" notification appears on dash and all lights by shifter illuminate, in order to reset you have to shut vehicle off and restart and then it may or may not do it next time you start vehicle, it does not seem to stop you from shifting vehicle into desired gear however is definitely something that needs to be covered under a safety recall. My Jeep is currently in shop for repair, they called me and told me the bezel and wiring harness have to be replaced per a bulletin that is currently out but I have to pay $100 for my extended warranty to cover repair. This should be a recall due to the fact that it is happening to so many people and is not something that should be happening.
Warning appears about the shifter and all the lights come on. I read a forum where dozens of people are having this problem and having to replace their harness and wiring kit. I've also been told there's something about this models cruise control but when I search on here nothing comes up.

When driving, an error message popped up and said "service shifter". On the gear shift, all of the lights lit up red (parking, neutral, 1st, 2nd, drive, and reverse). I immediately pulled over. After I restarted the car, it went away. I went online to see if this was a common problem, and there are all kinds of complaints. Many of which, Jeep had no idea how to fix. Most complaints also stated that it went away, only to come back after another 1000 miles or so. If there are so many complaints, and Jeep is obviously having a problem identifying why, shouldn't this be a recall? there is obviously a fault in their product or wiring. This is going to cause serious accidents and/or lawsuits. Please help.
Electronic parking brake module connector water intrusion which causes the module to short out and the wiring harness corrosion. This causes the parking break to engage and disengage without warning. This also prompts an error that the 4wd is unavailable. Confirmed with patriot Jeep in oakland MD that the 4wd will not work on 11/18/2019. I was able to get my car to move from my driveway by putting my seat belt on and holding the break, and then pressing the gas to release the parking break. Mopar told me this was not covered under warranty, and I found numerous complaints on this issue. I was also able to find a bulletin published by mopar about this issue. It appears there is water getting into the vehicle causing corrosion which could lead to an accident if someones brake would engage, or 4wd would fail in inclement weather.
2014 Jeep Cherokee. Consumer writes in regard to service airbag system warning light coming on; caused by underseats jammed wires. The consumer stated the vehicle needed a new wiring harness. The dealer stated the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired.
Stopped at a stop sign while driving. All the gear selection lights came on along with "service shifter" message on dash display. I had to shut off engine and restart to get them to turn off. Operated normally after that. Dealer says code reader fault says that shifter wiring harness and bezel have to be replaced. Some type of short in wiring. They say it is not covered by warranty. I see other years of this vehicle have been recalled due to this issue. Not sure why not the 2017.
I have 2 2017 Jeep Cherokees. Within a few weeks, both have had the "service shifter" light come on. One was under warranty so I took in for diagnosis and repair. Said was wiring harness & bezel. I took the other Jeep in. Same diagnosis, but wanted $107 for diagnosis and more than $300 to fix. After researching this problem I have seen that many, many Jeeps have this issue (see carguru. Com for some instances). From this research, I have also learned that it's possibly a safety issue with this problem. My husband and I were just driving down the road, and the display for service shifter came on. No previous issues. I was truly scared to drive the vehicle after that!the fact that no recall has been issued is incredible! it's going to cause an accident! and the fact that a lot of Jeeps have the similar problem leads me to believe that there is a manufacturer defect of these Jeeps. Some drivers who have experienced this have lost control of their steering and the cars cant be put in park. The VIN number for my Jeep with the same problem is 1c4pjmds3hw648102 4x4, the dates and milage and speed of travel has been estimated as my husban cant remember the exact dates, readings, etc.
While driving my 2018 Jeep Cherokee a message appeared on the dash service shifter all lights on the shifter then light up red the prndl this has happened multiple times. The vehicle seems to not shift gears properly when this happens. It has been checked by the dealer and the shifter/ wiring harness need to be replaced. I was informed this is an ongoing issue with most Jeeps in the last few years and no recall has yet been made, I have only owned this vehicle for 7 months and am very disappointed thus far. This being an ongoing issue that Jeep is aware of I feel that some action should be made for the customer. I am a loyal Jeep customer but after this issue not being resolved for years I may not continue to be a loyal customer and go elsewhere to purchase my next vehicle. This first occurred on September 25,2019 and has happened multiple times since the first occurrence.
All prnd indicator lights on the shifter unit illuminate at once, and stay lit. "service shifter" warning appears on the instrument cluster display. When "service shifter" warning is displayed, cannot be turned off and digital speedometer readings (or other information) are no longer displayed. Prnd shifter indicator lights blink sporadically until warning finally displays. Lights stay illuminated after warning appears. Prnd lights and display warning appear while vehicle is parked/stationary as well as when vehicle is in motion. Started sporadically, roughly 6 months ago (early 2019) and would typically go away if vehicle was turned off and re-started. These warnings now happen daily, every time I start the vehicle, and almost never go away. Upon researching this concern online, it appears that this is a known issue that many have been experiencing since around 2012. Most web inquires indicate that this may be related to a wiring harness? I took to the dealership for service and was told it would be $700 to replace the entire shifter, and that if I do not replace, I could find myself unable to put the vehicle in park. Hoping that this is something that is being investigated and recalled so that I do not have to pay for something that is a recurring, known safety issue.
When car was 1 yr old service shifter warning light came on including all gear shift lights lit at same time. Shifter assembly was replaced under warrant. Less than a year later, same issue, assembly replaced again with what I was told was a new part that came out to deal with problem. 2 months later, same problem again. Was explained to me that this is has to do with wiring harness and shifter assembly. All times, this has happened while car was moving.
The service shifter warning light comes on and the steering locks up. This has happened once before and the shifter control module and wiring harness was replaced. It has been about 10 months since that service. Chrysler has a warning noted but it's not a recall.
Service shifter warning light came on. Dealer diagnosed a bezel kitshift and wiring shift needed to be replaced. Parts are on a one month backorder indicating huge demand for parts. Surprised it was not recalled.
The "service shifter" warning comes up on the screen sometimes when the vehicle is first turned on and other times it happens when you are driving the vehicle. We took it do the dealer and they scanned codes and the code for a problem detected with the electronic shift module came up. The dealer service center replaced the shifter bezel and the wiring harness for that part. This was done July 19, 2019. Within the last 2 months, this has been occurring again; so now the part and wiring harness needs replaced again.
Service shifter indicator came on with all lights on the gear shift indicator lighting in red. After shutting the vehicle off, things returned to normal but will probably occur again based on other internet comments about this Jeep problem with their wiring harness.
Service shifter indicator came on with all lights on the gear shift indicator lighting in red. After shutting the vehicle off, things returned to normal but will probably occur again based on other internet comments about this Jeep problem with their wiring harness.
Shifter service light came on and dealership stated the wiring harness had to be replaced. The lights on the shifter all came on when started and the shifter was engaged.
