Started having service shifter codes at approximately 30k. Would be repaired & after about 8 wks it would throw the same code. Repeated the same cycle 2 adtl times. Took a total of 4 times till the entire shifter, module & wiring were replaced. At 40k miles my Jeep died on me going down a hill. Had to coast down hill & find a halfway safe area off the highway. I had no ability to start the vehicle. The electronics would come on when I turned the key but it would not turn over. All the lights on the shifter would be solid & the service shifter alert came on. Immediately called the dealership. The service adviser walked me thru how to reset the car. Wait for 5 minutes. Turn the key on & let it cycle. Turn the key off. Repeat the process 3 x's till it starts. Took it into the dealership & was told the thermostat module & the radiator. Neither of which would be covered under warranty. Same time I also had an oil change done. 2 1/2 mths later same issue. Die going down a hill. Again took it to the dealership. Told that it was a sensor & wasn't covered under warranty. Had an oil change done this time. I have not replaced any parts on it yet. The thermostat module & the radiator are still the same as the first time I took them in. 8 weeks later same issue. I took it to my local auto repair in town since the dealership could not get me in for 2 weeks & the Jeep was leaving me coasting for a safe space to pull over in traffic. Within 2 minutes they discovered Jeep was 2 quarts low on oil. The engine was losing oil pressure & was shutting off the engine to keep it from damaging the motor. Since then I've tried to schedule service with two different dealerships only to be told that using 2-3 quarts extra of oil in between oil changes is normal & they can not do anything.

Shifter service problem shifter and wiring need to be replaced according to dealer my car only has forty seven thousand miles on it search online reveals several other people have had the same problem and there are talks of recalls but nothing has been done at this point.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated that warning indicators illuminated, but was unsure of which ones. The vehicle was turned off and was immediately restarted. The vehicle was taken to sherman Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram (7601 skokie blvd, skokie, IL 60077, 866-650-8000) where it was diagnosed that the wire harness needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the same dealer. The technician stated that the contact and the driver were unpleasant and that the wire harness was damaged due to carelessness on the part of the owners. This 2015 Jeep Cherokee has the 2-speed transfer unit, and was sold as flat towable, and manual so states that fact. The manufacturer made the power steering system electric rather than mechanical. In 2017 after many complaints about the Cherokee not tracking while being towed behind the motorhome and causing a severe left to right wobble behind the motorhome, Jeep issued a revision to the owner's manual (s-13). It states that a flat-tow wiring kit should be installed, but Jeep wants the part and labor to install this kit to be paid by the Jeep owner, not by the manufacturer. This is a safety issue and should be addressed under a recall. On a straight road this wobble happened twice to me and almost caused me to loose control of my motorhome, not to mention damage to my Jeep.

2015 Jeep Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to transaxle range sensor wire harness. The consumer stated there were complications with having the recall repairs completed by the dealerships. Updated 11/27/2017.
We have taken our Jeep in countless times since obtaining it brand new in 2016 for a service shift issue. They replaced our thermostat the first time then wiring harness to the transmission/bcm the second time since then the dealership has stated with out a check engine light not to worry about this issue. Every time it happens our Jeep heats up past 220 degrees and starts to run rough.
Our brand new vehicle has been in for maintenance several times, due to service shifter and service 4x4. This is all due to a faulty shifter bezel and faulty wiring to the shifter bezel. This is a common issue and well known if you do google searches on this vehicle. Can this be looked into? its not fair for the customer and definitely an issue if the dealer knows exactly what the issue is before receiving the car. Make this a recall already. Why is this an issue? because it prevents the vehicle from being thrown into 4x4 and also causes some vehicles to loose control from what I am reading. In my case, my vehicle can not go into 4x4.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. At 65 mph and attached to an RV, the vehicle began to wobble violently. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions. The contact stated that the vehicle detached from the RV and was damaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the wiring harness would have to be repaired to flat tow the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
On October 10, 2016, I was driving on an access road next to a highway when my car lost motive power. I was driving at approximately 40mph and I did not have enough time to pull over from the lane I was in. My dashboard kept flashing "service transmission" and also to "put the car in park and re-start. " for ten minutes, I attempted to re-start the vehicle and begin driving again. Each time I would try to put the car in drive, there was a very loud racket sound from shifting and I had to put the car back in park. Finally, on the sixth attempt, I was able to shift into drive without the sound and I immediately drove my car home. I am disheartened as this was a purchase of a used vehicle only a few days prior, on October 8, 2016, that had only 30,000 miles. Needless to say, my car is already at my local Jeep dealership for repair, and not much reassurance with regards to the associated recall, as parts are not ready yet. This was intended to be a family vehicle, but if it stops while driving, it will render my family completely unsafe. The s55 recall concerns a poorly designed wiring harness, that causes the computer to shift the vehicle into neutral while driving. Nhtsa recall number: 16v529 recall date: August 22, 2016 manufacturer recall number: s55.

Jeep Cherokees stall while being driven. . . . They cut off without any warning. . . The reason they cut off while in motion is due a wiring harness design flaw, but Jeep is keeping this matter a secret and they deny they have a problem throughout the country. . . Someone or some agency needs to investigate this matter in order to see how serious and widespread this problem is, surf the internet auto sites regarding all the Jeep Cherokees that stall out while being driven. I do not want to see on the news that a driver was killed when his or her Cherokee stalled causing a massive wreck and deaths. . . . That is why I am reporting this matter.

While operating the vehicle I kept smelling burning plastic. The heater fan quit and when I jiggled the switch it started to operate at high fan only and would not let me set it to low. Then it quit working and I removed the switch to replace it. I found that the wiring harness was melted. I am now concerned about the danger of replacing the switch. I am not sure if I can replace the melted part of the wiring harness. I also noticed that the switch has 5 connections but only 4 wires were connected to it.

Vic display show "coolant sensor bad. " online investigations reveal many owners have experienced the same problem over the years. Their trial solutions have ranged fromn replacing the "coolant temperature sensor," the coolant level sensor," replacing "connecting wiring" to the vic, and to removing the vic to repair solder joints and cracks at the circuit board that is located in the vic. Most report that the first three attemped remedies did not resolve the defect. Some report success in re-soldering joints on the circuit board. The latter,--removing the vic and repairs at the circuit board-- is an involved process and requires extensive knowledge and repair tools and equipment. All report that this condition left unresolved could lead to the engine overheating and/or faulty data sent to the fuel injection system, and possible engine fire. With so many complaints on this defect, a recall or a manufacture repair bulleting, should be issued at the manufacturer's expense.

Blower motor failed at 78k miles excessive liquid draining when running ac was told that motor had been "redesigned" and that parts alone would cost over 300. 00 because in addition to redesigning the motor, a new wiring harness has to be installed!!! remember the 300. 00 is for the hard part and wiring only, not the labor to install. . . This is completely ridiculous when a motor for the same model manufactured a year earlier is only 20. 00!!!!! as far as the excessive liquids running from under the vehicle while the ac is running, this site was the first indicator as to what is wrong with it. . . (I simply though it was a design flaw) also this complaint has been edited to let you know that "running boards has nothing to do with this. . . It seems one has to go through the process flawlessly or begin again completely!!!.
I own a 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport. I noticed recently a wiring problem to both the front door speakers. I called the dealer and they told me it was common for there to be shorts in the wires that go from the body into the door. They said they usually see the failures in the door lock wiring or the power window wiring. The speaker wiring travels the same route into the door. I realize that the power in a speaker wire wont probably cause a fire, but the power window motor is 25 amps and it could cause a major fire in the wiring if shorted. I was told by the dealer that the cost to replace just the speaker wiring would be $140 per door in labor alone. If there were ever something that recalls were meant for, this is it. I am having the speaker wiring replaced at an audio store, but I have no idea what to expect from the power windows or door locks at this point. This is an unsafe condition and it should be addressed with a recall. I just cant afford to do it on my dime.
