My favorite, Jeep Commander 2006 3. 7 v6. 103600 mileage. The car shuts down without warning. This has been happening from last November. I feel like I'm in a death trap because when cars going 60 - 70 mph on I-495 and car lost power. All I can really do is pray that my family don't get killed. The dealer fixed flipping key problem at the same year of summer because of the recall. This is really not related I believe. It happened 6 times mostly winter season between November through January eastern time last year, and this stalling problem came back last Sunday Dec 10th, 2017 while driving on northern state parkway to micro center in NY. 3 times already this season. The best way only I found for our safety. Slowly move over on the shoulder finding place to stop while speeding down, and have one chance of stop to break vehicle without power. However, luckily it starts again and runs normal. The dealer, daimler Chrysler consumer center. They never care about this issue and keep charging for the service without a solution. My research is on going to find ecm, pcma, and fcm problems. I am scared for my families safety. The car cuts off while driving on highway. Any ideas, please please please please please help us.

1. It leaks. Whenever there is rain I have 2-3 inches of water in the front foot area on both sides. In addition to that water leaks through the lining and front pillars of the truck landing on the dashboard. What is this about? this not only results in my time to drain out the water it also leads to a gross musty smell. After a rain I can hear the water swishing back and forth in ht roof of my car. This is rediculous. Further this issue has done something to the electrical system. 2. The electrical system. The driver¿s side door window/lock/mirror switches no longer work. So that means that the driver¿s side window hasn¿t been down in forever. That makes life quite difficult. The next electrical problem is that for no apparent reasons lights come on. As I driving the interior lights just start to shine bright all of them at the same time. One night I woke up at three in the morning to find my headlights on. I tried to turn them off but couldn¿t. It eventually wore the battery out. Lastly electronics wise is my dashboard lights flicker crazy. 3. The door handles. Behind the actual door handle is plastic. This has all broken away. I am sure it is just a matter of time before I can open the doors at all. 4. It just stops running. Five times now as I am driving (streets or highway) the truck has just shut down. Fortunately it starts right back up but this is extemely dangerous. This form asks for dates. . . All of this is ongoing.

P41 / NHTSA 14v-438 engine shut off while driving. Removed everything from key chain, and left enough space between knee and key. When car bounces, cannot control knee. Happened more than 5 times past a month. Called Chrysler, have no estimated time for parts production.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

While driving the vehicle on a slippery road during a snowfall, my wife observed all of the indicator lights on the dashboard light up simultaneously. Shortly thereafter, the engine shut off, causing a loss of power steering and consequently a loss of control of the vehicle on the slippery roadway. As a result, the vehicle slid into a highway maintenance marker along the shoulder of the road, causing minor damage to the license plate holder and bumper of the vehicle. Our concern is that this incident is apparently due to a defective ignition switch, which is the subject of a current recall (14v-438) issued by the manufacturer on 9/3/14. However, the manufacturer has not provided a remedy for this defect, citing the unavailability of repair parts, and as of this morning the manufacturer has no idea as to when these repair parts will be available. In the meantime, the phenomenon of the dashboard indicators suddenly and spontaneously illuminating while driving continues to recur rather frequently, and we are afraid that a recurrence of the engine shutoff and loss of power steering and brake assist will also recur, perhaps at a time and location where a much more serious crash will result.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

Engine shut off while driving on a winding road. Loss of steering and brakes became a potentially catastrophic problem. This is the second occurrence of this type in the past month. Our mechanic is scratching his head.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2014

While traveling on an expressway in central michigan, I was using the cruise control to maintain a speed of 75 mph. With no warning at all, the mechanical components of the vehicle shut down, leaving my Jeep "dead in the highway". I was able to steer and brake, but the vehicle would not respond to acceleration by pressing the gas pedal. I pulled off to the shoulder, luckily without incident. Turned the key to the "off" position and waited about 10 seconds. I turned the key to the "on" position and it started back up. I cautiously drove at a considerably slower speed until I was able to get to a rest stop. When I got to my destination I found a local auto parts store and had them do a diagnostic check. It showed a maf sensor gone bad. Mass air flow sensor was replaced. Hoping that was the issue, after several days, my family and I headed back home on the other side of the state. While driving about 60 mph with cruise control, there were no issues. I figured the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, I was wrong. As I reached the highway where the speed limit is 70 mph, I accelerated to 70 mph with the cruise control. As soon as I broke the 70 mph point, the car mechanically stalled again as I was trying to merge onto the busy highway. Again, luckily, I made it safely to the shoulder and restarted. I was able to exceed 70 mph on the way home without using the cruise control. Concerned for my pregnant wife, toddler son, and my own safety, as this happened on a busy highway at a high rate of speed; with no warning lights or sounds.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

P41 recall. Before recall my 2006 Jeep Commander turned off on its own numerous times. This resulted in engine shut down, no electrical system, etc. I have contacted Chrysler several times. I get the same response, part not available. Why? I am told the supplier does not have part. Why not?. This is an old recall, however Chrysler is repairing or buying back newer models of vehicles due to faulty design. 2006 Jeep Commander recall is just as serious as newer recalls. The faulty ignition switch results in entire shut down of Jeep, including air bags. I was told to adjust seat so that knee does not make contact with keys in ignition. What? I suggest that vehicles with faulty ignition switch be a part of the Chrysler buy back or repair immediately. Also, to avoid further serious accidents and possible death resulting form faulty ignition switch.

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2013

I have just purchased this used 2006 Jeep Commander 1 week ago. The vehicle is in great condition, no previous accidents, no engine lights/error codes. On the 2nd day of owning the Jeep I experienced my first stall, and since then 4 more stalls. There is no engine lights, error codes, etc. The vehicle seems to be 100% okay, however the vehicle has just shut off 4 times losing brakes, steering, lights, etc - whether I am moving or at a stop. At first I thought "I must have bought a lemon" but I have been reading through several forums and blogs that there are 100's if not 1,000's of people who are experiencing the same issue with their 5. 7l hemi Commander, and some of the blogs date back to 2006 when these vehicles were brand new with less than a thousand miles on them. One person actually suffered an accident due to this electrical issue - losing control of steering and brakes. Because their is no engine codes or lights dealerships are not assessing the issue at all or are just throwing parts at it hoping it is fixed and charging the customer a boat load of money. Several people have identified that the issue potentially resides in the pcm and the ignition coils, some say that the coils put of an em interference that is disrupting the pcm. Regardless - Chrysler needs to get this fixed so no one else gets hurt, or killed.

14 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

While driving down the road the vehicle engine shuts off; airbag light flashes on as well as dash lights. This has happened approximately 10 times in the middle of a eight lane highway in rush hour. It has torn my nerves all to pieces trying to drive it under these conditions so I had to park it and buy another vehicle. Need action soon. Started approximately 2 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. Notified Chrysler and was told to remove all keys from ring except switch key; did that and it still happens.

15 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

I bought this car from a used dealership I have only owned this vehicle for about 3 months. Have been having trouble for the last month and a half. And it all began on the interstate. I was traveling on the interstate doing about 75 and it just shut off in the middle of a cluster of cars and I had to go over 2 lanes to get to the shoulder. I lost steering and brakes within 10 seconds. One of the most scariest rides ever. I am now afraid to travel on the interstate with this vehicle. Since this has happened it has shut off an additional 5 times I took it to the dealership cause the engine light was on and they said it was a map sensor, I have replaced this twice already. Now it doesn't idle right and looses power in between 30 and 35 mph. And the engine light has once again came on. Haven't had it checked yet cause it is a Saturday night guess I will have to take it somewhere on Monday.

19 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2008

My 2006 Jeep Commander has stalled with me several times. The scariest when I was turning into a middle school driveway and it just shut off leaving me without any brakes or steering. It has also stalled several times at the end of my driveway. But the worse problem is for the second time in 4 months it will not start. Last time it was a tip failure. Something was wrong with the start up module. This was in Jan. 23 08. Now, April 21, 2008 it has done it again. Last time it was still under warranty and I have called a tow truck this time too. It is still under warranty but with only 3000 miles to go. I am worried this part will continue to break. I am afraid I will be alone and the car will not crank somewhere. This is not safe. You must be able to depend on your vehicle starting. The last time it was repaired with part number 4692084-ab b;lci non 8015009 whatever all that means. It was run without any problems since that repair until today. Fortunately it broke down in my carport.

21 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2008

My vehicle's engine unexpectedly shuts off while I'm driving. The first time it happened while I was driving over 50 mph, that scared me because I lost my power steering and it was hard to control my vehicle. The other thing is that once it shuts off, the vehicle won't let you restart on the fly, you have to come to a complete stop, put the vehicle in park and restart your engine. That can be potentially dangerous on the freeway.

26 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2007

My husband and I financed a used 2006 Jeep Commander while he was home on 2 weeks of leave from and 18 month tour in afghanistan. About a week after we took the car home it stalled out for the first time. A week after that it did it again and we immediately pulled off the road and took it to the closest dealer which was luckily less than 2 miles down the road. He hooked it up to diagnostics and told us something about the computer recording a freak reading of barometric pressure which is what made the car shut off and that it shouldn't happen again. After my husband returned to afghanistan to fight terrorism for the us army I was driving home after dark from out of town and my headlights started to flicker. . . The frequency of this kept increasing and each time this happened the interior lights would also flicker and it became increasingly difficult to have the lights come back on. Luckily I got home before they quit working completely. Today, I was at the end of a drive to visit family and the car stalled for the third time in less than a month! I lost brakes, steering, lights, ac, and radio. Traffic was heavy and I narrowly avoided an accident!!!! after about a minute, I was able to pop the car into neutral and get it started again. Thank god my two children were not in the car! I got to my relatives house and began researching this problem and found numerous complaints on the internet, something we were not made aware of when buying the vehicle. The fact that this has happened to hundreds of other families makes me livid. My husband is getting shot at everyday for his country and its okay for an american manufacturer to sell faulty vehicles to people?!?!?!.

I own a Jeep Commander and it has died on me for now reason now more than 7 times. I was at a stop light, sometimes on the freeway the car just stops. I step on the gas and the car doesn't move the engine shuts off and the steering wheel hardens and doesn't steer. I took it into the Jeep dealer where I leased it from and they found nothing wrong with it. They told me that there are other complaints with other Commander owners but they have no fix to it. They even told me that when they find what's wrong with someone else's Commander they would call me so I guess they still don't know what's wrong this had been happening now a lot lately. I am going to take it back again to the dealer ship and see what they say. 31 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2007

We purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander in April 2007. Since we purchased this vehicle, it has stalled on 12 separate, random occasions. I have documented the stalls which have occurred while in reverse, driving less than 10mph, and at higher speeds on the highway. When the car shuts down while on, I have to pull over (with no lights or power steering) and put the car into park to restart the car. It always starts up again with no problems. I have also noted that it occurs in both cold and warm temperatures. I have had the car in Jeep's service depts on three occasions. On the first two visits, they said they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. On the third visit, they admitted that others had complained of the same problems and they replaced the ignition switch to see if that corrects the problem. I have talked to other Commander owners who also have had this same major issue with their vehicle.
