This Jeep Commander was sitting at the gas station after driving it home 30 miles. Upon ignition of engine, there was a loud explosives sound, the engine sounded like a bucket of bolts. I shut off the ignition immediately, then got it towed home until I got it to the dealership. The car requires a new engine. There are many similar cases to my story, and I believe there was a major failure due to faulty engine components. An investigation should be launched. There are too many people reporting the same failure, if not on this site, than on other Jeep Commander forum sites. Enough is enough. My Jeep Commander 2006 shifts automatically to neutral while driving, you feel a strong pull and a loud sound coming from the engine, suddenly the car is in neutral and the gas pedal doesn't work even if pressing it. The check engine light turns on for 2 or 3 days. This problem can cause a fatal accident if this happens while driving at a higher speed, I'm scared to drive this car. I took this car to get the transmission fixed twice and I still have the same problem, it is clearly not a transmission problem now that I think about it. Also the dash lights and headlights start flashing while driving, including the ac it shuts off while lights are flashing. I called Chrysler to let them know about this problem and they said my car doesn't have a recall, I don't know what else to do, I've spent more than 5,000 dlls trying to fix something that cannot be fixed, I need help!.
The air conditioner made a loud noise and then smoke began pouring out of the engine compartment. I observed smoke coming from the air conditioner compressor. I had to put the fire out with water.
As my mother was getting onto the 105 east fwy the engine made a loud bang and rumbling noises. Immediately following the engine completely turned off and the car was still in motion. The brakes were functioning properly thus my mother was able to come to a full stop on the shoulder of the fwy ramp. All the engine oil was spilling out of the vehicle. Once the car was towed to the dealer, they said the engine had a hole and not repairable. The car is barely 5 years old and purchased new. Last oil change was done on 3/16/11 and the auto center did not report any engine issues.
2006 Jeep Commander - vehicle stalling before acceleration, power-steering became difficult: between 24,000 - 30,000 miles, the vehicle began to stall and the motor has completely shut down immediately following the incident. No actions were taken at the dealership. We were told if it does not happen while at the dealer, there is nothing that can be done. The vehicle just reached 30,000 miles and the power steering is becoming increasingly more difficult. A scrubbing and loud noise can be heard while turning the wheel to the right. The vehicle is scheduled to be looked at by the same dealership.
I took my 2006 Jeep Commander to my local dealer where I originally purchased it to get the stalling problem fixed. Five days later the service manager said that the problem was now solved (August 24,2007) finally. The service department said they put in a new program that would fix the Jeep from just losing power. August 25 Saturday morning at 8:13 while at an intersection the Jeep just died again. Another problem is the windshield breaking easily. I believe the problem with the breaking windshield could be related to the inproper fitting of the windshield which results in a loud noise being heard inside the vehicle. The dealership said they won't fix the seal problem because my Jeep has two cracks on it. I said "if you had fixed the windshield seal problem the first 3 times I brought it in we wouldn't have this problem'. No problems have yet to be solved. Ancira dealership in san antonio,TX. Many Jeep owners are purchasing multiple windshields at $385 a pop. She's convinced too.
