The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph in a parking lot the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated the failure was intermittent but a recurring failure. The contact stated that the failure occurred at various speeds. The contact stated that the 12-volt battery had been replaced approximately 2 years ago due to battery drainage issues. The contact stated that the failure with the 12-volt battery being drained and had jumpstart the vehicle several times. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 08v203000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact also replaced the ecm module independently. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle started losing engine power and then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to restart after one attempt. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.
Transmission over temp is a never ending light that lights up daily. I've had 3 reprogrammed pcms and the ecm replaced as well. The car was also reprogrammed at the dealership twice with the results the same. It will work for a couple days then right back to the original issue and including a few more. Recently the trans over temp came on and stalled in rush hour traffic. Resulting in a almost serious accident. Several attempts made to restart the car. Started and stalled immediately. After the 4th time and reving the engine very hard it stayed running. I've called the recall line on this and several other recalls (1 that was under warranty) with no resolution. This is now a safety issue for me and others on the road. This car is a lemon and should be taken off the road. I've waisted money at the dealership being charged over $300 each time to reprogrammed with no improvement. Bought 3 pcms at $1200 each. I replaced almost everything under the hood and car with no positive results.
2006 Jeep Commander limited 5. 7l v8 message as appears on dash - transmission over temp while driving a short distance the message transmission over temp appears, the fan kicks on high & is very loud, and it feels like the transmission disengages like being thrown into neutral, but is still drivable. About 2 weeks prior, I noticed smoke coming out from under hood & the engine coolant tank was almost empty. There were no visible leaks on carport. I refilled the tank & immediately called kilby automotive repair shop, then took it in. They said that the radiator cap needed to be replaced. The also said the valve cover gasket was leaking. They replaced the radiator cap & made an appointment for June 3rd to replace the valve cover gasket. Before that appointment the vehicle started displaying the transmission over temp message. I took it into kilby automotive on may 27, 2021. They said it was a faulty transmission temperature sensor, but they could not repair. They have done a lot of repairs on the vehicle for several years. I called ultimate luxury auto service explaining the issue. The man said that he could put a new sensor in & there is a broken transmission mount. He replaced the sensor. Fix mount later. When I was driving home, the same message appeared & the fan kicked on as before. I messaged the shop & took the vehicle back in. They put a 2nd sensor in, drove it & received the same transmission over temp message. They returned the 2 new sensors & put my original sensor back in. They said they were sorry they could not fix it & dropped the price of repairs. I entered the make, model, & message online & found out a lot of people have the same problem. Some people have said they replaced numerous parts & it did not fix it, and others say they replaced the pcm. I am disabled and do not want to be stranded or have a vehicle fire. I am afraid that it would pose a risk to me & others, as transmission oil can ignite on hot surfaces and cause a fire in the engine.
While driving the car will shit off for no reason. It appears to be something wrong I have a new battery and don't now why it's losing power. . It cuts off while driving and when I made a turn but also while driving straight . Also the wheels feels like they are wobbly while driving in the front.
2006 Jeep Commander vehicles is shutting off randomly while driving and the steering wheel is locking up. Also the lights on the dash board flicker randomly. Mechanics could not find anything wrong. There is no recalls on my specific VIN but for other 2006 Jeep Commanders. I do not want my family and I driving down the highway and it's does this and we die then you finally say oops yeah there's a recall on that. . .
Worst vehicle ever! we got it with around 98k miles on it, and it now only has 103k miles on it and in the last 4k we've put over $5k into it trying to get it to run. We had to put a new transmission in ($2k) and have the lifters in the engine replaced ($2,600). Currently it's been shutting off on its own a few seconds after I start it and giving random "transmission over temp" and "service 4x4 system" messages even though there's not a problem with those systems. I turn the key, it runs for 3 seconds, then shuts off. Sometimes it does this several times in a row and then won't start at all. Other times it starts fine so it's ridiculously hard to diagnose. Sometimes when it's doing it's shut down bit, you can get it to stay on a little longer by revving the engine, and it will let you pull out of the driveway, but then shuts off in the middle of the street. The sun roof leaks horrifically, even after I've tried the "clip the nipples off the bottom of the hoses" trick.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving at 55-65 mph, several unknown warning lights were illuminated and the vehicle lost electrical power temporarily. The contact stated that he veered to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the failure could not be replicated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and the vehicle would stall while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle would go into limp mode and would not shift out of third gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring intermittently. The contact also stated that the transmission was shifting hard. The contact stated that the warning message "passenger air bag off" and the front passenger air bag warning light would illuminate when a lightweight passenger sat in the front passenger’s seat. The dealer was notified of the failures and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under unknown recalls because the VIN was not included. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
I was driving to drop my son off at school and when I would press the gas, it wasn't moving like it should've been. It was barely moving, you could engine rev but it wasn't moving and didn't move until it got to 2, ig 2nd gear on the dash.
Repeated transmission over temp error messages displayed on dash. Error is intermittent, occasionally causing vehicle to turn off unexpectedly during operation. Happens while driving in normal conditions.
Intermittent inability to start vehicle. My Jeep Commander 2006 has a problem that is being discussed all over the internet in chat rooms and blogs but is not being acknowledged by Jeep. The issue occurred when Jeep was in parked position. I am a disabled man and I was left stranded in very cold weather for two hours with a car that would not start. It had nothing to do with the starter, or the solenoid. This seems to be a serious issue with Jeeps and a safety issue to the owner especially if the owner is stranded and has no heat and unable to walk to get help. I am requesting NHTSA to look into this because Jeep is stonewalling the public and this is a serious and dangerous issue that the public should be aware of by way of a recall. People rely upon their automobiles and expect them to operate accordingly and not to have random and intermittent engine non starts for no apparent reason and with no explanation from Jeep and no solution to the problem going on 9 years now. Please investigate this widespread problem known to be an issue with Jeep Commander.
Engines surges continuosly. Rpm's surge.
Engine died while driving on highway twice.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle accelerated forward and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called a local dealer (twin city Dodge Chrysler, 650 sagamore pkwy s, lafayette, in 47905) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 154,197.
Valve seat dropped into engine causing catostaphic failure. Engine will not idle. The engine is completely destroyed. Out of warranty. Replacement cost is $6700. 00. I will never again buy Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep product again. The failur hapoened upon startup with no warning.
On christmas I backed the Jeep out of the driveway so I could drive my truck. Bumped the curb slightly while parking and vehicle died. Started right back up so I didn't think much of it. Today my wife took the kids to school in it and ran fine. Parked for two hours and went to start and it will crank but not turn over. Fuel guage doesn't read correctly. At full it says half a tank and while you are driving it may drop to below empty with a full tank. I have been reading all the reports about the 2006 Commander and a lot of people seem to be having this starting problem. I haul my family around in it because we can't all fit in my truck but I don't feel safe in it because you never know when it's gonna cut out and die. My kids range from 1 week to 11 and I don't really want them in it. I'm thinking it a fuel pump or wiring issue. Both issues occurred in my driveway or right in front of my house.
2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 dies at low speed. Almost caused accident on freeway. Had the ignition recall taken care of. Hoping that it was the problem. It was not. . . Now trying to sell vehicle and don't want to cuz I would have to have someone else get hurt. In that death trap the Jeep now sits in my side yard my wife refuses to drive it. I'm looking for any ideas on what to do? please help.
Tranmissiom going out. Gear not shifting into drive.
Takata recall the motor keeps dying while driving. I took it to a mechanic that told me that the motor was defective and the motor has to be replaced. The engine only has less than 85000 miles. The mechanic told us to buy a jasper motor because jasper made changes to the motor because the original motor was defective. Mopar no longer makes the motor and referred us to an aer motor. The parts department at Chrysler said that they are not sure or not if the original mopar motor has made the same changes to the motor that jasper has made. Jasper states that changes have been made to the motor and specifically states that improvements have been made to solve the defective issues of an original 2006 motor. I am not the only one it has happened to. Motors were being repalcesdat 75,000 miles are a common problem according to google on this model.
I went to start my 2006 Jeep Commander and it would turn over, but it would not start. I finally worked with it a little bit and got it to start, but then my power steering went out. I cut it off and tried it again and everything went back to normal. However, when I got going, there was a horrible gas smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. This starting issue has happened multiple times and every time the power steering goes out. The vehicle was stationary at a public place after it had been running for about 30 minutes.
For the passed 3 years our vehicle has switched gears from drive to 3rd gear, while driving. The vehicle jolts and changes gear for a few months and returns back to normal. We continue to use it at 3rd gear. There is no way to change it back to drive mannually. We've taken it in to auto shops and the symptoms return.
Radiator coolant system failed and caused the engine to overheat and loss of power while traveling on an interstate highway. Pulled over to side of highway. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic shop. The shop evaluated the engine could not start as it had seized from overheating. It was determined that the radiator plastic end caps suddenly failed causing the engine to overheat and seize. The radiator temperature is very high and the plastic and aluminum materials expand and contract at different rates therefore weakening the connection between the two materials until the part fails. This is a bad design, application, and mix of materials in a part that does follow the basic principles of thermodynamics.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. When the vehicle was started, it failed to move without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine was destroyed due to the valve being vacuumed into piston #4 and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,400. The VIN was not provided.
When driving on the highway the vehicles engine just stops. Power steering is gone if you have to maneuver out of the way it's very difficult when decelerating it seems to down shift very hard like going form 4th to 1st the dash lights flash randomly when ever they feel like it. I've been thru 3 fan speed controls fir the heater this has been happening for the last 2 years.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 30 mph, the check engine, oil change, air bag, and check pressure warning indicators remained illuminated. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the air bag check pressure and oil change warning lights illuminated after the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Defective valve seat fell into cylinder. Many complaints on line including mine. Fully maintained. Ran fine and parked. Wouldn't re-start. Had it checked and the cylinder was shattered. Glad I wasn't driving on the roadway as the engine would of stopped and so would steering and brakes. Jeep was in storage since 2015.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would shake and the engine sensor light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine was faulty. The engine was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 20,000. Jft.
I received recalls p73 and p41 called sorg Dodge in goshen and downey Chrysler Jeep in nappanee in sept of 2015 needless to say no one will do the recall work. I have had nothing but the run around since these came out. What am I suppose to do??.
I bought my 1st new car ever hoping to keep it forever. I treat it very well all services done on time and with top quality product. At 105,000 miles my valve dropped in the engine ruining the complete block. This happened in my driveway as I started it to leave. Costing me 8,278. 40 to replace my engine. After this I have learned this is a common problem to which Chrysler has yet to admit fault! I will hold out hope and keep paying that engine bill fingers crossed someday they will compincate me.
My family (husband & 2 small children) were driving home on the miami turnpike in crazy traffic. We hit a spot on the road where 2 roads meet and the engine complitley turned off. I freaked out because a car was behind me and it was busy traffic. Once my senses kicked in I started wiggling the key and turned it and the car started back up. I did not want to drive home! my husband called Jeep and they were closed. I called the recall line this morning at 8:00 am and the service was horrible. I was told it is my prerogative to keep driving because they have no fix. I let them know the vehicle is not safe to drive. The supervisor told me there was no fix they could put me on an email list for when a fix is avavilable!!!! are you kidding? then I said what if we die in an accident and sue and she said that's your families prerogative if they want to sue!!!!! I asked to speak to a different supervisor and she flat out said no I have helped you and I will not let you speak to another supervisor!!!!!!.
I have only the one key on the key chain- I have moved seat back as far as it can go with me being able to still touch the pedel. And my car still cuts off when I riding down street - cuts off for like maybe 5 to 8 sec then kicks back in jolts us forward then I can hit gas-when this happens - I can not hit gas rpm do not move. I have been told numerous times have no clue when my part will be in and I feel my car is not safe to drive.
Turned vehicle off at store, came out to start it and while I was in the store a valve seat fell out of the cylinder head into the cylinder. Engine now needs an entire rebuild costing half of the book value of the vehicle. Upon research online, this is a very common problem with these engines specific to 2006-2007. From what I have read it was due to a known issue from a vender that supplied the cylinder heads.
As I was driving down the road my automobile turned off and stopped working while driving! this is very dangerous and is very ridiculous considering I received a recall notice over 1 year ago concerning this problem. I make every attempt to ensure the functions of my vehicle are running properly for the safety of my family. I have young children and they could have been seriously injured had we been involved in an accident at the time of my vehicle's failure to operate correctly, due to the manufacturers irresponsibility of taking care of this problem within a proper time frame! Jeep and local dealers have been contacted multiple times to try to correct this problem, with no help from them it has yet to be repaired!.
I was driving down the interstate and the engine completely shut off. One of the scariest things I have ever experienced. Luckily traffic was minimal at the time, but in traffic, it could have been a huge disaster.
My family and I were driving down the highway at 75 mph and without any warning, the engine died. When the engine died, the engine indicator light came on. Power steering and braking were fine at first. I steered the car to the side of the road. Before coming to a stop, the power steering stopped working. Once on the side of the road, I turned the ignition off and then tried to restart the vehicle. The car re-started immediately, however, the engine light remained on. I have taken the car into the shop and the technician was unable to find any problems with the vehicle.
