38 problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2006 Jeep Commander. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2006 Jeep Commander that I bought 2 months ago. It has been one problem after another. First of all the first day it rained the whole entire cab was soaked, come to find out that there is a problem with the sunroof drainage of these Jeeps. The drain lines don't stay connected to the floor and when that occurs the carpet get drenched. I had to pull all of the carpet out of the Jeep because of mold concerns. Secondly shortly thereafter the check engine light came on the first time I drove the Jeep. Took it too a mechanic and the code showed a crank sensor and a cam sensor. Got both of those replaced and it required a driveshaft repair kit. Another day later the check engine light went off again. The truck started to shake and shimmy so we had to pull over on the side of a highway because it wasn't safe. Took it into another mechanic that was closer to where I was having the issues and they put another set of crank and cam sensors in again. Supposingly I was good to go but just 2 days later the check engine light came back on. Went back to another mechanic that was close in proximity to where I was having trouble in which the truck started to shake and shimmy again. This mechanic found a short to the ground in altanater unit which required a new altanater because the other one wasn't pulling enough voltage. Today (sept 5th) went to start the truck and it stalled again and when I restarted it the check engine light was back on. I have spent well over $2000 on this situation and it still isn't fixed. I have read a lot of other customer complaints about this model as well as others who are having the same problem. There should be a recall on this from Chrysler to fix whatever issues these cars are having. They have been getting away with this crap way too long now. Going down the freeway 70 plus miles an hour and all of a sudden the check engine light comes on.
Check engine light came on. Engine surged rpms and lost all power while driving. I put it in neutral and started it back up. Upon parking, rpms surged again, vehicle tried to pull forward before the rpms dropped and stalled the engine in drive. I checked used my scan tool to check the code and it came back p1521 which is for wrong engine oil. I used royal purple 5w20 in my last oil change. It drove the vehicle for 2098 miles before this incident occurred with no issues in between. I noticed the 4. 7 litre had a recall done for the same exact issue and it being a software update for the power control module.
I was driving on the interstate and my vehicle stalled and the check engine light cams on.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled without warning. When the vehicle was restarted, it failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the bank 5 misfired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08v203000 (power train). The failure mileage was 165,000.
I was driving on the express way do 70 mph and we hit a bump and the Jeep lost all power. It shut right off. Thank fully we were in the outside lane and could get pulled over. The check engine light came on. Once we got pulled over we shut the key off and started it back up and it was fine. But the check engine light stayed on. There has been a recall on the ignition switch since June of 2014 and the dealership keeps telling me they don't have the parts. This is my only vehicle and I have a child and do not want to drive it now.
While driving down a service road, my 2006 Jeep Commander stalled and the check engine light came on. It would not restart, and was towed to the dealership. The dealership says that the valve and valve seating came loose, and fell into my cylinder, damaging the piston. They are now saying that I need a new engine, as mine has too much damage to repair. I contacted Jeep customer care, and they are unwilling to repair the damage. The vehicle cost $12,500 and the new engine, only 2 months after purchasing it, will cost roughly $7,000 without including labor. From my research, this is a fairly common problem, that Jeep knows about, but is unwilling to fix.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was not available.
I have 2006 Jeep Commander in which I am experiencing issues with the ignition switch on my vehicle. The defective ignition switch causes every light on my dashboard to illuminate and it causes my vehicle to stall, as well as flickering lights with no power to fuel gauges, mph, and rpm needles. After all the lights illuminate and go away the check engine light stays on, and the defective ignition switch drains my battery causing my vehicle to not start without a jump start by the next day. With a slight tap on the key it will move some or a bump in the road will make the ignition switch start acting up and make some of the previously described symptoms act up. Occasionally there are clicks that come from the ignition switch after the vehicle has started, which signifies that the defective ignition switch is going to fail soon. I received the notification from the Chrysler corporation about the recall and that my vehicle is included in it, but haven't received the second notice to this date about when the part would be available. I called in November to check and see what can be done but I was told the same thing that no parts are available. So this leaves me at the end of the road with this vehicle. I check online almost all the time for updates and still the same thing. I have been following this recall since it popped up in the news before I received notification from Chrysler, because I have had this problem with my vehicle. I am scared for my life that the key will move into the wrong places disabling my car or when the ignition switch acts up it will make me loose control of my vehicle and it could be dangerous for me or any of my passengers even fatal. Safety should be chryslers number one priority. At this point I hope to get rid of this car and move away from Chrysler's products for good especially since fiat is running the show!.
2006 Jeep Commander 4. 7l v8 stalls when coming to a stop. Multiple instances (over 12) between the first occurrence approximately mid December 2013 and today 11 January 2014. All stalls happened when coming to a stop except for one instance when it stalled while in reverse. A drop in rmps and lighting/instrument failure accompanies the stall. Chrysler's recall n32 was completed October 2013. Vehicle has been owned since early 2011 with no stalling of this type having occurred prior to this. No instrument panel indication (e. G. Check engine light) accompanies the stall. Vehicle restarted on all occasions after shifting to park or neutral.

2006 Jeep Commander with check engine light took to dealer and was told they couldn't fix the used scan tool to look up code p0700 and this took them to p2767 input speed sensor was told its an internal transmission part and they cant fix was told they cant duplicate problem so they cant fix at this time . My vehicle hesitates when accelerating and also bucks.
2006 Jeep Commander with check engine light took to a mechanic and was told input speed sensor was told its an internal transmission part . My vehicle hesitates when accelerating and also bucks.
While driving down interstate, engine just stopped. Power brakes and steering stopped working also. Made it to shoulder of road and took several minutes to restart. Check engine light is on also. Previous day 4/23/13, the traction control light came on, but has since gone out.
My Jeep stalled as I accellerated on the on ramp of a major interstate. I coasted to the shoulder and tried to restart and would not restart until I shut it completely off and restarted. It ran with the check engine light on and the cruise control inopertable. Idle was rough at low and higher rpm's. After about six restarts throughout the day the check engine light went out but the cruise control is still inopertable. One week later it stalled at idle during cold weather warm up with the same results following as before. The vehicle was purchased used from a dealer less than a week prior to the incident with 84,879 mi. A background check through autocheck was conducted prior to purchase with no major finding reported on this specific vehicle. From investigations through multible websites, this issue is common with this vehicle for several years. I have check the recall reports by VIN # and this vehicle does not fall in the production catagory of manufacture recall but has the exact same symtoms for a recall. This is a major safety concern if the vehicle stalls on a rural highway with no shoulder to safely pullover.
Was driving to work and was accelerating to about 55mph, when my 2006 Jeep Commander stopped accelerating and had apparently jumped into neutral. The check engine light also came on at that time. I had to pull over put the vehicle in park and then back into drive, and then it was fine. This exact same thing has occurred about 3-4 times. Always with the check engine light going off soon after.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and would not respond to acceleration attempts. The contact also stated that the check engine light illuminated. Additionally, while stopped, the vehicle erroneously surged forward. The failure occurred intermittently at different speeds. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Just dropped my children off - on my way to work again - going approx 40-45 mph. . . . . All of a sudden I feel a slight jerk and my car completely shuts off. (key still in on position-so no, my knee did not hit the keys) brakes - electrical - engine - all went out. I coasted to the side of the road. Waited about 10 mins after speaking with my husband - started it back up engine light was on. . . . I p laced my hazards on and proceeded to continue down the road - at this point I am approx 15-20 miles from work.
While driving at aprox 45mph, with no warning my Jeep stalled out leaving me with no power anything. After 5 minutes started up with check engine light on. Tried to get it to my home about 5 minutes away stalled again without warning. Did manage to get it home this however is not the only time this has happened, started happening in may 2012 samething. Had it towed to dealer which they charged me $234 to find nothing wrong with it and 11/2weeks with no vehicle. This is very dangerous how at any speed vehicle stalls with no warning!!!!! I should add I just had the flash recall done on the vehicle for the otc module on 4/13/12.
Engine stalling! hi, my 2006 Jeep Commander with 71k on it has been stalling a lot lately and the engine light goes on. It starts right away but the engine light stays on. I took it to my dealership & they reprogrammed the computer, but less than 50 miles later it stalled again. This happens on the highway where I would lose power and find it hard to control the car. I know that a lot of owners complain about the same issue and the dealerships seem to be puzzled by it as well. Jeep has to find a solution to this before someone gets in an accident. Jeep should also cover the costs associated with the several service costs. I've sent the same to Jeep/Chrysler corporation and have yet to hear from them. My car is current on all recalls issued sulfer. I suggest that Jeep be forced to buy back all these Commanders and save themselves a big headache.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, she noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle then stalled completely. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several minutes and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that they were not sure what was wrong with the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure and current mileage was 109,000.
The vehicle check engine light comes on and the car stalls out no matter how fast you are going. Everything dies, including power steering. I have to coast over to the side of the road and turn the car off and then restart it and it runs fine for awhile. There is no rhyme or reason to it. I have been driving on the highway going 80 mph and the check engine light comes on and it just shuts off. I have also been on side roads going 35-40 mph and it happens. It always restarts and then it happens again. I had all the spark plugs replaced in 2012 and it worked fine for awhile, probably about 5,000 miles, then it happened again out of the blue in 2014. I don't drive the car very often because it is too dangerous. I've almost caused several accidents on the highway from a sudden slow down from the engine dying and decelerating rapidly. I've written a complaint in 2012, never heard anything and now I am writing again.
I have a 06 Jeep Commander that has been completely shutting down while I'm driving. The rpms go up over 3 and 4 and the gears shifts from high to low. And also my engine light comes on and stays on.
This problem happens year round. Once you put the vehicle into drive, all of the shift lights "prnd" light up and the vehicle won't accelerate. If you are already driving down the road/ freeway, it will randomly light up and stop accelerating. When it randomly occurs, it happens with no warning, and you have to attempt to pull the vehicle over to the side of road, put it into neutral or park or restart the vehicle, and attempt it again. The check engine light will come on and the problem will happen repeatedly over a week period, then the problem will stop for a week or two and then resurface at the worst time- for example an intersection, an on-ramp, a busy street, and it has presented huge safety issues for me and my family. Does it take someone dying for this to get recalled? I have read forum after forum of the same issue amongst consumers with my exact make, model, and year (and earlier models) and yet, when I called Jeep, they say they have never heard of it, there is no recall, and I've been turned away.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled followed by the illumination of the check engine light. He was able to move the vehicle off of the road and restart it. The dealer cleaned the pcm and replaced the drivers door wiring harness. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was awaiting a diagnosis of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 37,150 and the current mileage was 57,300.
2006 Jeep Commander 5. 7 l hemi 4x4 first incident @ around 22,000 miles current miles on vehicle 50,100 miles engine stalls frequently when driving forward or reverse and when coming to a stop. Will stall at anytime with loss of all power (steering and braking) and engine will completely shut off by itself. Happened more than 30+ times since we purchased the vehicle in 2006. Since then, even when the service adviser experience the vehicle stall in their service drop off area the vehicle check engine light nor codes came on so the dealer can not trace the issue. Vehicle was still in factory warranty and is now in extended warranty. The dealer stated that it needs a tune up ($700. 00). We had it service for the tune up and the vehicle continued to stall. The dealer then stated that we needed to change the battery ($300. 00), so we had it serviced again and the vehicle still continue to stall. Contacted Chrysler corp. And seemed like there was nothing that they can do to trouble shoot this stalling issue. I haven't received a reply back from them in 3 weeks now. I don't want my family or any other families out there to be the first to get into an accident for Chrysler corp. To take action.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving between 35 and 40 mph, the check engine light illuminated followed by an unusual increase in engine rpms. The vehicle then became hesitant as if the contact was driving in neutral. The contact confirmed that the failure has occurred several times intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times to assess the failure but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 30 mph, the instrument panel warning indicators suddenly began flashing and then completely dimmed. Afterwards, the engine completely shut off as well. The weather conditions were not a factor. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted immediately. The engine light illuminated but then shut off once he arrived at the dealer. The dealer could not find any failures. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 18,000.
I bought my 2006 Jeep Commander in 2006 as a demo with 18,000 miles on it. I really didn't drive it that much as you can tell by the mileage on it and it has only had three oil changes. When it reached about 20,000 miles it stalled on my way to work and I called and spoke to a tech where I bought the car, he told me that I had probably gotten some bad gas. Then two weeks ago it stalled again and the engine light came on for a day, then it went out. It came on again and stayed on and it continued to stay on, and "service park assist" displayed on the dash. The dealer where we bought the car is 20 miles from where we live so I made an appointment with a Dodge dealer about 3 miles from my home. On Monday July 7th when driving there for the appointment, I was making a left hand turn and it shut down, no brakes, no steering, no lights on the dash, nothing. I got to the side of the road and it re-started after 3 tries. I made it to the dealer and they called my today and said it was ready and they had to install a tcm module. I went to pick it up, and on the way home, it did the same thing again, the only thing it didn't do was display the engine light, but the stalling and the "service park assist" came back on. I took it back to them and they hooked it back up to the computer and told me I needed to find a way home and they would call me tomorrow. They didn't know what was wrong with it yet.
I purchased my 2006 Jeep Commander 3. 7 4x4 in 2007 as a demo. It had 18,000 miles on it when I bought it and now is has 28,000. I have not driven it very much as you can tell by the mileage, and it has only had to have two oil changes (every 3,000 miles) and is almost due for another. I have been having issues for three weeks now, 1. First it stalled in traffic when I was doing about 30 mph. 2. The engine light came on and stayed for a day, went off and came back on two days later and has been on since. 3. When driving, the car will shift really hard into second gear for no reason. On the 3rd of July it started doing all sorts of weird shifts and stalls, I made an appointment with the dealer tomorrow, and I have not driven it since the 3rd of July because I am worried about breaking something.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the vehicle sporadically loses power and then immediately stalls. After waiting for a period of time, the vehicle would restart and the engine light would consistently remain illuminated on the instrument control panel. He took the vehicle to the dealer and it was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number 08v203000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)). Immediately after the repair, the failure became progressively worse. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and is in the process of having the fuel system:gasoline delivery pump replaced. The failure mileage was 18,000 and current mileage was 26,000.
I have a 2006 Jeep Commander. I was driving my 7 year old son to camp. I was driving about 45 mph on a 2 lane road. Suddenly and without any warning the engine, as well as all electrical items completely shut off. I also lost all assist functions. When I was applying the brakes I got the noise that usually you hear when the abs system has taken control. After pulling to the side of the road I restarted the car and the engine warning light came on. After dropping my son off I attempted to restart the car. I had no instrument panel functions (gas gauge, water temp, odometer, etc. ). I will be taking the car in to the dealership on 7/5/2007 for analysis.
My 2006 Jeep Commander v-8 4. 7l, stalled 4 times. It stalled quickly with no warning, the worst being on the highway last month. The engine cut out, I had to put in neutral or p ark to start the car again. Very scary. I called the Jeep dealer and told them of the problem, the asked if a check engine light was on I told them no. They said nothing could be done, keep driving it. Also, had a problem that the service 4x4 light and esp light came on for no reason when turn ing the car off then back on it sometimes going away. Will usually not happen for more than a few minutes, not enough time to get to the dealer to solve the problem.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled sporadically without warning and caused a crash. The contact took her vehicle to the dealer on several occasions, but they could not duplicate the failure. On one occasion, the engine light illuminated, but the dealer could not provide an explanation. When the vehicle stalls, it usually restarts after a brief waiting period; however, it failed to restart after the crash. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. A police report was filed and the contact has a copy. The failure mileage was 700 and current mileage was 30,201.
