Ignition problem . . Dealer replaced ignition due a recall on vehicle, but the problem was not fixed. Dash turns off suddenly while driving and car stops suddenly too. Have to start it sgain. Dealer replaced the ignition switch to prevent this to happen, but it's happening now more than any time. People say that the problem wasn't solved after replacing the ignition.

2 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

The vehicle has power failure while driving and while stationary with engine running! the dashboard instrument panel, gauges, lights, hvac, radio, etc. Shuts off but the vehicle still runs, and it continues to turn off and on over and over again. Also, it occurs whether on a smooth surface in motion or when you hit a bump in the road, and it occurs when the vehicle is sitting still with engine running. It makes you feel like the vehicle is about to shut off. This occurs every time I drive my vehicle, regardless of the location. There is a safety recall for the ignition switch, and I feel this problem may be related to that issue.

3 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to three unknown dealers, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that there was an ignition switch recall repair performed on the vehicle. Directly after the repair, the vehicle exhibited the failure. The recall details were not provided. The failure mileage was 153,000.

4 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

Driving under certain conditions the vehicle engine completely shuts off and stalls. This happens on the highway, mostly at speeds of about 45-60 mph. The two recalls available on the vehicle as it relates to this issue (tcm/pcm ) ( ignition switch) have been recently fixed by the dearlership, however the vehicle continues to mulfunction in the same manner and appears to be getting worse. Contacting Chrysler, they are abrasive and uncooperative. A little research shows that there are several owner complaints on this very issue dating back to 2006-2007-2008. There appears to be an "active" investigation ongoing by the NHTSA-office of defects investigations. What is the status of this investigation-10 years later??? there appears to be no interest on the part of the manaufacturer to address this issue without the vehicle owner incurring massive loses in endless diagnostic and repair expenses.

5 Ignition Switch problem

Problem with ignition switch causes dash not to work and car not to be able to start most of time. Key does not stay in proper position in ignition. Vehicle is stationary and in motion when this happens while driving on city streets.

6 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2016

Regardless of distance traveled, outside temperature, the 'transmission over temp' message appears on the dash. Had coolant flushed 2x but message still appears intermittently. Had mechanic look at more than a few times, however could not replicate message and thus no resolution/fix to problem. Jeep recently had ignition switch recall completed (thought that would never happen) but 'transmission over temp' would occur prior to that recall being completed. Thought the two were connected somehow. Main concern is the engine does not overhear, temp reads below middle mark but when transmission message appears, after a few minutes, transmission feels 'off' or jumpy. Something is definitely happening. Not safe to drive, not confident taking it on long trips because of possible damage that may occur, not to mention being stranded. This is my girlfriends truck and I'm not comfortable having her drive too far, especially in the evening. His is inconvenient because we take care of our vehicles, this truck has low miles, 62,000. Would really like to resolve this because we love the trick but cannot trust taking it on trips, towing our boat which was the original purpose of having truck. What a stressful vehicle to have. Very dissatisfied with this truck. Again, the transmission over temp would occur intermittently, on the highway at times, in traffic, small trips, after sitting parked after a short trip, message reappears once truck is started again. No rhyme of reason to this.

8 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

This is in response to the recall for the ignition switch on my 2006 Jeep Commander. My vehicle has had the ignition switch replaced at the dealership but you should know that the replacement does not cure the problems that it was meant to fix. The work was completed at 9:30am and the next time I drove that day,it did the same exact shutdown as it did before (with all lights on the dash flashing). The stalling and shutdown does not occur because of hitting the key with your leg as I am only 5'4" and my leg doesn't touch the ignition. The shutdown occurs because of a short somewhere inside the ignition. It occurs randomly and sometimes can be stopped by lightly turning the key to the left. I have also found that the shutdown occurs at extreme frequency when driving in heavy rain or extremely slushy roads, which tells me that somewhere, something is getting wet and shorting the vehicle out. It is very hard to get the lights to stop flashing in this type of weather and I have had to pull over a couple times because of the danger of stalling in traffic. I am stuck with this dangerous vehicle because of my financial situation and have fought for something to be done about it by the dealer starting 20 days after I bought it but of course nothing was done until the government got involved and sadly it still hasn't cured the problem. I hope you receive more complaints and make the dealership correct the problem the right way. Thank you for your time, tracy l. Field.

I called the Jeep place for an oil change and they diagnoised the car and did a recall on the ignition switch and told me the powertrain transfer case is bad and thermostat leaking from the housing and 4 wheel drive failed. I have never used the 4 wheel drive as I recently purchased the car at the end of April and own it for just 7 months. They said it will cost me over $750. 00 dollars to be fixed. I called Chrysler and they said my vehicle is not included however on your web site NHTSA campain# 13v175000 seems to apply to my diagnoised problems. I love my car but this is a defect in manufacturing and not something that I have done. The previous owner had this car constantly maintained at executive Jeep in north haven CT. I want my car fixed at Chrysler's cost not mine. I drive my car with my grandchildren in it and now feel it is unsafe. . Please help me. I have all records for the car and the diagnostic information should you need it. I also have howard the manager at Jeep phone #.

22 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

After contacting my local Jeep dealership, I am told there still is "no solution" to fix the current ignition switch recall on my Jeep. They have known about this for years. My "official" recall notification was September 2014, and there is no solution yet. How long does one have to wait for a viable solution? why not just install a new ignition switch instead of replacing parts? I believe I have waited long enough, and still no fix. My concern now is with the rush to fix air bad my fix will be delayed even longer. How long is a reasonable time to wait before the government demand action?.

23 Ignition Switch problem

This problem appears to be wide spread. All the intstrument panel warning lights come on and the a/c radio heater tachometer speedometer etc stop working. I investigated online and it seems this is a common problem with no clear cut fix. My Jeep is included in the ignition switch recall and I'm concerned that this is a related problem. There is no eta for the ignition switch parts! I spoke with Chrysler customer service yesterday.

28 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2015

My Jeep acts as if I turned the ignition off while going down the road. Today it did it again going down the highway at 65-70 mph. I have no additonal keys on the key chain. My seat is slid back and there was no contact with my knee and the ignition switch. I have a 2006 Jeep Commander and have complained about this since 2007. There is a current recall (p41 / NHTSA 14v-438), that I was finally notified about by my dealer a year ago but there are still no parts available to fix the problem. I have two of these 2006 Commanders which are driven by my two daughters. I received the recall notice for the ignition switch months ago but it said that parts are not available, which is apparently still the case. How long are my girls supposed to drive these vehicles in this condition? will these parts ever be available? I sold a previous Jeep to buy this one because the old one, as I found out after I purchased it, was susceptible to gas tank explosion. And now this. Will Chrysler ever be forced to remedy this situation? or will they be allowed to wait until several more people die from their lack of attentiveness to this problem?.

Steering becomes difficult/inoperable. Vehicle will sometimes regain power. Recall related to ignition switch has been open since September 3, 2014. Manufacturer has not issued any solution/remedy. Manufacturer has suggested "removing extra keys/keychains from ignition key and avoid bumping the ignition key with knees. " this is not a remedy. The problem still occurs. This is dangerous. Recall is incomplete. Nhtsa recall number: 14v-438 manufacturer recall number: p41.

33 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2014

Car lights illuminated and Jeep lost power. Had to rent a car to take my kids to see santa. The ignition switch needs replaced under recall p41 but no parts are available from manufacturer. Car is dangerous and shouldn't be driven. Chrysler has been contacted and says they are sorry but parts are not available. Recall is over 3 months and no one is doing anything about the safety issue so many owners are facing. It is dangerous. Nhtsa has numerous complaints on same issue but no one is making Chrysler fix the problem. No one is governing the recall. According to nolo: contact the NHTSA. If you are still unable to get relief, contact the NHTSA. Although you can skip the first two steps and contact NHTSA immediately, it is usually better to contact the service manager and manufacturer first -- since most problems are solved at those levels. You can contact the NHTSA by telephone at 888-327-4236 or by mail at 1200 new jersey avenue, se, west building, washington, d. C. 20590. Or fill out a form at the NHTSA's interactive website at www-odi. Nhtsa. Dot. Gov. Yet, nothing is being done. There is no remedy and no one is making Chrysler give another solution. Exactly how long does the manufacturer have to comply? I think over 3 months is plenty of time.

34 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

While driving the vehicle on a slippery road during a snowfall, my wife observed all of the indicator lights on the dashboard light up simultaneously. Shortly thereafter, the engine shut off, causing a loss of power steering and consequently a loss of control of the vehicle on the slippery roadway. As a result, the vehicle slid into a highway maintenance marker along the shoulder of the road, causing minor damage to the license plate holder and bumper of the vehicle. Our concern is that this incident is apparently due to a defective ignition switch, which is the subject of a current recall (14v-438) issued by the manufacturer on 9/3/14. However, the manufacturer has not provided a remedy for this defect, citing the unavailability of repair parts, and as of this morning the manufacturer has no idea as to when these repair parts will be available. In the meantime, the phenomenon of the dashboard indicators suddenly and spontaneously illuminating while driving continues to recur rather frequently, and we are afraid that a recurrence of the engine shutoff and loss of power steering and brake assist will also recur, perhaps at a time and location where a much more serious crash will result.
