Driving down the road at 65mph and the speedometer and tach will go to 0 and then back up to operating speed. Warning lights on dash will come on and off along with the fan for heater and air. Chrysler recalled these exact issues in July stating " some Jeep Commander vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving which may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. Until this repair is completed the vehicle can be driven". My only question is for how long? how long until someone is injured or dead from the vehicle losing power. On Chrysler recall website for this vehicle it stated they were to issue another letter or information on this issue in September. It is now November.

Ignition switch recall (p41): I am now going on 2 years with a faulty iginition switch that has been recalled. When I last contacted the local dealership (larry h miller Jeep, riverdale, utah) I was informed they do have the parts for the recall, but they "do not have the specific part" for my Jeep. How long is it reasonable to wait for a recall to be dealt with? I just want my Jeep fixed and I grow tired of larry miller auto group sending me mailings saying they will buy back my Jeep and put me in a new car. How long must one wait for a recall to be fixed?.

The vehicle randomly shuts off. The dash gauges flicker and/or go off for a brief time. If breaks are engaged at that time, abs stops. If headlights are on auto, they turn off. If turning a hard left or right (such as turning into a driveway, turning on to a street, parking) power steering stops working. If the lights are on but not on auto the lights stay on. The radio stays on. These symptoms would indicate that there is a problem with the ignition switch. When this issue occurs, it seems to stop by pushing on the key. This has happened multiple times. After visiting this page, a log will be created to record date, time, and speed. This is a huge safety issue. After much research many users of internet forums for Jeeps, complain about this issue (reference urls can be provided). The NHTSA campaign number: 14v047000 sounds very similar in nature. Could the NHTSA look in to the parts being the same?.

I have 2006 Jeep Commander in which I am experiencing issues with the ignition switch on my vehicle. The defective ignition switch causes every light on my dashboard to illuminate and it causes my vehicle to stall, as well as flickering lights with no power to fuel gauges, mph, and rpm needles. After all the lights illuminate and go away the check engine light stays on, and the defective ignition switch drains my battery causing my vehicle to not start without a jump start by the next day. With a slight tap on the key it will move some or a bump in the road will make the ignition switch start acting up and make some of the previously described symptoms act up. Occasionally there are clicks that come from the ignition switch after the vehicle has started, which signifies that the defective ignition switch is going to fail soon. I received the notification from the Chrysler corporation about the recall and that my vehicle is included in it, but haven't received the second notice to this date about when the part would be available. I called in November to check and see what can be done but I was told the same thing that no parts are available. So this leaves me at the end of the road with this vehicle. I check online almost all the time for updates and still the same thing. I have been following this recall since it popped up in the news before I received notification from Chrysler, because I have had this problem with my vehicle. I am scared for my life that the key will move into the wrong places disabling my car or when the ignition switch acts up it will make me loose control of my vehicle and it could be dangerous for me or any of my passengers even fatal. Safety should be chryslers number one priority. At this point I hope to get rid of this car and move away from Chrysler's products for good especially since fiat is running the show!.
I have had my 2006 Jeep Commander for a year and in that time period I have had a consistent problem. When I am driving the vehicle I will randomly lose power to the instrument panel, windows , windshield wipers and almost everything electrical. The engine will continue to run but if it happens at night I lose interior lights dash lights I can't see how fast I am going due to the panel not working. I have had it to the mechanic and he insists it has something to do with the ignition switch. I know a recall has been issued for a separate ignition problem but after reading online and seeing many other reports just like mine I,believe there is another issue to be handled. This problem is also making it impossible to get the vehicle inspected because when it acts up it cause the check engine light to come on and has to be reset. Then before all sensors have reset it occurs again. I have spent a small fortune is gas trying to get lucky to be able to pass inspection.

P41 recall. Before recall my 2006 Jeep Commander turned off on its own numerous times. This resulted in engine shut down, no electrical system, etc. I have contacted Chrysler several times. I get the same response, part not available. Why? I am told the supplier does not have part. Why not?. This is an old recall, however Chrysler is repairing or buying back newer models of vehicles due to faulty design. 2006 Jeep Commander recall is just as serious as newer recalls. The faulty ignition switch results in entire shut down of Jeep, including air bags. I was told to adjust seat so that knee does not make contact with keys in ignition. What? I suggest that vehicles with faulty ignition switch be a part of the Chrysler buy back or repair immediately. Also, to avoid further serious accidents and possible death resulting form faulty ignition switch.

Ignition switch defective. It moved from run to acc while making a right turn onto a onramp going about 30 mph. It turned off the vehicle just like the defective gm switch did. It was attached to other keys and may have been bumped by knee during turn.
Hi, this is the second notice that I have received regarding the recall for the ignition switch (p41/NHTSA 14v-438). Upon receiving the notice I called my local Jeep dealer and both times was told that the parts are not available. I have experienced some of the problems described in the recall. I have two young children and I am concerned for their safety. I have brought my vehicle (2006 Jeep Commander) in for service before the recall was made aware of and they could not diagnose the problem. At times I have been driving and all of a sudden my vehicle's instrument panel seems to shut off, the steering tightens, and the lights flicker on and off. This happens quite frequently and now that I know that there is a recall I'm more afraid that I may be putting my family and myself in danger. I realize that the recall notice has been made public for a year now but this has been happening for much longer than that. I read on your site that it may be possible for the vehicle to be purchased back. My vehicle has 115600 miles and I'm the original owner. How does that work? thank you for your time.

The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), however, the part to do the repair was unavailable.
