While driving 65 mph on the interstate, vehicle lost power. Dash display message appeared "service park assist system" and vehicle gear display indicated the p r n d were all illuminated. The engine stayed running but would not respond to the gas pedal, decelerating. Turned on hazard lights and pulled over, placed vehicle in park, shifted to drive, and continued as normal. A short time later, the check engine light came on. The problem is intermittent, and has happened many times since then and in many different driving situations. For example, after pulling into traffic on a highway, the vehicle would not accelerate, causing the traffic behind to nearly slam into us. If acceleration had been available as normal, this would not have been an issue. Another example, the problem happened during heavy rush hour interstate traffic, causing the need to cross several lanes to reach a breakdown lane. It has happened immediately upon starting the vehicle and after the vehicle has been running normally for a long time. It is very unpredictable. The vehicle is dangerous and cannot be trusted to provide power or acceleration when it is needed. Private shop checked the fault codes and replaced the transmission control module which did not fix the problem. Internet research shows this exact problem with these exact symptoms is common and widespread in the 2007 Jeep Commander and appears to indicate a faulty electronic shifter module. Chrysler response to the problem is hit and miss, some dealers acknowledging they have seen this before, others claiming they have never seen it and the problem is isolated and not widespread. There needs to be a safety recall on this dangerous issue before someone is hurt or killed, if they have not already. We used this vehicle to transport our children and now we can't even trust it to safely get us to the shop to have it repaired.
While driving, Jeep Commander will randomly jump to neutral and when press gas will rev up only. Have to either manually shift the gear to neutral then back to drive or pullover turn off Jeep and star back up. The physical shifter does not move to neutral position just the actual gear. Does at random times and speeds and when it does the Jeep will not accelerate which can cause accidents especially on highways.
I had a fearful incident as I was driving on the highway in the passing lane in my 2007 Jeep Commander going approx. 60 miles per hour. When suddenly my vehicle would not accelerate at all , it remained at 60 miles an hour for about a mile with oncoming traffic on all sides of me. An alert was displayed very quickly stating service parking assist system and my panel highlighted all gears at once. I was able to slow down and get off the highway. I took all the side roads to get home and my Jeep began to hesitate like it was going to stall on me. The next day my engine light was on and remained on and left me stalled on the highway . I contacted my dealer to get it in for diagnostic testing and it was determined that the electronic shift module was bad and needs to be replaced. I had purchased the extended warranty and was informed that the module was not a covered part. The estimated price was $1025.
Rght after purchasing this car in 10/2011 the Jeep would randomly cut off or lose power, not sure if this an electrical issue. Due to the randomness of the issue, they could not duplicate the problem when I brought in the car. After going back to the dealership the manger at the time wrote/promised that his establishment (reliable auto) would repair/fix the issue if it occured again (within a year or 12,000 miles). After a years time the issue still continued, but now I cannot bring it in to be fixed w/out being charged. Whenever I pushed down on the pedal to accelerate , the car could not accelerate past 25- 30 mph! this would occur while I was already in motion, or at a light. Felt like the car was, "stalling" and the service park assist messge would apper. I would try to shift the gear but nothing changed, the car still would not accelerate. This happened on multiple occasions. Sometimes the next day the car would drive just fine, other times the problem, "fixed itself" within a few days. Every time I took the car in they had a difficult time duplicating the problem. My check engine light would also illuminate but when checked no codes could be found. Super frustrating and scary to deal w/ this. In July/Aug 2013 the problem got worse when I was involved in an automobile accident. Took the Commander to Chrysler/Jeep and they were able to identify an electrical/shiftmodule problem. One of the reps. At Jeep told me this been common w/ Jeep Commanders. Before I had the Commander, I owned a 2005 Jeep grand cherokee, purchased brand new in 2005. Great car but had some electrical issues, when on, my headlights would randomly start flashing. In my experience, Jeeps look good but come w/ too many issues. Thank you lauren jordan.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while stopped, she attempted a right turn but the vehicle would not accelerate. Additionally, the instrument panel warning lights illuminated intermittently while the contact was driving at different speeds. The vehicle would also not shift out of neutral. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the ecm would have to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system , power train) but was advised by the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
2006 Jeep Commander limited purchased brand new Dec 2006 from mccune Chrysler and Jeep, national city California. Purchased extended service contract max 6/70, covering my car to 70,000. Car currently has 63,000 miles (extended service contract). Never had an problems with my vehicle at all. Took car to purchasing location for repairs Jan 2011. While there, service advisor said I needed a new exhaust manifold and it was covered under service contract. Since then, my car has cut off in traffic causing me to almost loose my life by being hit by traffic, all lights on my dash panel lights up like a christmas tree, car will not accelerate when gas pedal pushed,,, and I am told that my car has a communication problem and they can not figure out what's wrong with it. I finally call ed Chrysler customer, filed a complaint, and was told that a case manger will be calling me to work with me and the dealership. If the mechanics can not figure it out, then that is a major concern to me because now my life, my kids lives, and any other passengers lives are at jeopardy while in this vehicle. It's a death trap. Chrysler nor the mccune are taking responsibility. All I am getting is that it's a communication problem within the car. Can someone please help me with this matter? the car was returned to me after 3 days being towed to the dealer and being told it was fixed. The car went back to the shop after two days of having it where it is at this time.
2007 Jeep Commander 85k miles problem started with service park assist light coming on. Car then would not accelerate for 10-15 seconds. Approximately two weeks later (yesterday) same problem occurred. This time I was on the on ramp to the highway where they are doing construction. There is no breakdown lane, so when you get on the highway you are in first lane. As soon as I got into the first lane, the service park assist light came on, the p r n d lights were all illuminated, the car would not accelerate again for approximately 20 seconds and the check engine light came on. This is an extremely dangerous situation as again, there is no breakdown lane to pull over. I called the dealership, they cannot take the car for a couple days. After reading the complaints from other 2007 Jeep owners with the exact same problem, I printed these and brought them to the dealership. They indicated they have never heard of the problem and that I can pay for the diagnostic test and take it from there. I was also given the telephone number for Chrysler. I had my son in the car, I am now afraid to drive the car and will have to find an alternate route to work as this exit will be this way for some time and had a car been closer behind me, we would have been hit.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. All the gear selections illuminated on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine, radiator, spark plugs, and multiple parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The VIN was later included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
