This happens at anytime, and has happened on the highway! this issue leaves no faults on the computer when checked by a dealer. Dealer replaced the ignition lock, but this did not fix the issue. They have no more suggestions. The internet is filled with other owners of this and other Jeep vehicles that have experienced the same serious issue. Obviously, this could be extremely dangerous!!.

15 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/24/2009

I filed a complaint about 2 weeks ago about an ongoing problem that I've been having with my 2006 Jeep Commander since January 2009. I am going to be killed in this vehicle which seems to have an electrical problem. The headlights flash on and off which in an age of road rage could get me killed if someone thinks I'm willfully flashing them. All the instrument panel gauges go on and off, the radio and climate control system go on and off; did I forget to say randomly. This is a dangerous situation that Chrysler needs to take care of. I've taken it to the dealer but they tell me there's nothing wrong with it. In the past they charged me for the evaluation, now I refuse to keep paying them and have them say "sorry can't find anything on the computer. " someone will be liable for the people who will be killed or seriously injured by this defected vehicle. On 12/24/09 on my way home from work it flashed the people before me, I got concerned and switched lanes on the highway; every time I switched lanes they switched before me. I believe they thought I was purposefully flashing them. This is very frustrating. Something needs to be done immediately before people are hurt.

16 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/09/2009

Headlights and interior lights shut off while driving at night at highway speed, but the radio remained on and the engine was also working. All the lights on the instrument panel flipped on and then off with the exception of the base esp and the traction control lights, they stayed on. Power steering and power brakes were working and if it had not been dark out, could have drove home. The vehicle did come back to normal working order within a few seconds. This record of events happened 3 times within a few minutes at 10 pm and was very scary. I brought the vehicle to the Jeep dealership and they replaced the power junction block. They said there were multiple codes they found in the system but the fault that leaped out to them was u0200.

The speedometer and numerous instrument panel gauges stopped working. The vehicle stalled unexpectedly and the warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle restarted and was able to resume normal operation. The contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing, but they could not duplicate the failures. They suggested that the ignition could be the cause of the failures. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and an independent mechanic for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The failure mileage was 30,010 and current mileage was 92,000.

21 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/25/2009

Bought vehicle 3/31/06 new now has 60,000 miles. The vehicle has had numerous instances with stalling while driving. All the instrument panel lights will light up and headlights will switch on/off to high beams on their own. Will lose powersteering and there seems to be a change in acceleration. On March 20th I was traveling at approx 30 miles per hour and lost power but the instrument panel lights did not go off as usual. I pulled off the road and parked vehicle. Had my step-father come to assist and he stated there car didn't seem to want to go gear properly, assumed this was due to the prior "electrical" problems and drove Commander to dealership approx. 1 mile away. Was told there was a plug in the transmission leaking where the electrical wires enter, cost to repair $430. After completing those repairs was told the transmission is destroyed and needs replaced at $3500. Chrysler is not offering any assistance to an obvious manufacturer issue. Stated I knowingly drove a vehicle with low transmission fluid and am negligent.

26 Instrument Panel problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/09/2008

I was driving down the road and I was unable to accelerate my 2007 Jeep Commander. I looked at the gas gage to find out that it said it was on e. I thought that was odd because I had just put 30. 00 into the gas tank. I was passing by a gas station and turned in real quick. I then noticed my gauges that told me the outside temp was black and all other electronic things were off. Then as I was turning into the gas station the power steering locked up on me and I almost ran directly into the gas pumps. I slammed on my breaks and was able to stop in time. When the power steering locked up that?s when I realized the car had just turned off previous and it wasn't the gas. I put the car in park, turned the key all the way off and restarted the car. The car started right back up again. This is only one of a few problems I?m having in regards to the car going out of control.

27 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/05/2007

November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) November 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) December 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when I had all kids with me?it was prior to Nov 24 but I do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, I lost the ability to steer and brake as well. The mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. There were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. Nothing seemed to standout as a possible "trigger" I took car to dealer after the November 24th incident. Tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could "make happen" when they drove it. A few days later I wrecked into a mailbox when my Jeep stalled and I lost steering and braking capability. . . . I am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree.

28 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/05/2007

This has happened on more then one occasion. The 1st couple of times the check engine light was one, it took 2 times there and they replaced the modular. After that that was taken care of but then while driving down the street all the instrument lights on the panel came on and all gauges went to zero. The second time this happened, I was driving to work going about 35 miles per hour, again all lights on instrument panel came on and the Jeep stalled causing my wheels to lock and my steering to not work, I had to skid off the side of the road, thank goodness no one was behind me. I started my Jeep a couple minutes later and the check engine light and all gauges were still at zero and frightened, I was able to drive home through the neighborhood. I took it to the dealership which was there a day because they knew I was furious at this time because I could have caused an accident causing injury to myself and other drivers, I then got it back and was driving home again thank goodness not on the freeway and it happened again. I took it back to the dealer who told me there is nothing that can be done because nothing is being detected on the chip so they can not fix it, they advised me to just drive it and keep a log of the pattern to help them determine the cause. I called the service manager and told him that I have a huge problem with them asking me to drive this for a pattern and causing a potentionally fatal accident to get a pattern which they already know had done this before, the service manger is having the service writer drive my Jeep and has been so for almost a week now. I can't believe that this issue is not being taken serious, I could have caused a very very serious accident on the freeway and more so when it starts to snow. I do not feel safe in this vehicle, not only for myself buy other's on the road. This is something that needs to be taken care of now before someone loses there life.

30 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/03/2007

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander. I was driving my 7 year old son to camp. I was driving about 45 mph on a 2 lane road. Suddenly and without any warning the engine, as well as all electrical items completely shut off. I also lost all assist functions. When I was applying the brakes I got the noise that usually you hear when the abs system has taken control. After pulling to the side of the road I restarted the car and the engine warning light came on. After dropping my son off I attempted to restart the car. I had no instrument panel functions (gas gauge, water temp, odometer, etc. ). I will be taking the car in to the dealership on 7/5/2007 for analysis.

31 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

32 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/05/2007

In the 5 years I have owned the 2006 Jeep Commander it has stalled while driving, stalled while parked. This happens at no set frequency. Sometimes it happens daily, other times it will go for months and not happen. The dash lights repeatedly flash off and on. Some dash lights don't work at all for months then like magic work fine for months. The vehicle sputters when accelerating all the time and at different speeds. If I am crossing or turining I need to make sure I have like 2 miles between me and oncoming traffic in case it decides to not work that time and I get stuck in the intersection. The cruise control no longer works. Luckily the computer went out that controls the cruise so I can't use it. The cruise used to just speed up and slow down on its own. I will be driving along and all of a sudden without notice the car will floor itself and not stop until I put the car in neutral. Regardless of what temperature I have the heater set to there is constantly extremely hot air blowing on my feet. I can not drive without shoes on or the hot air literally burns my feet. Overall- there are some serious electrical and mechanical issues with the Jeep Commander. I googled Jeep Commander and there are hundreds (I am sure thousands) of similar complaints.

33 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/31/2006

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving at 10, 25, and 70 mph the vehicle failed without warning. The contact stated that the steering wheel locked, the instrument panel lights dimmed, and the radio continued to operate. After each failure, the vehicle would operate normally. Currently, the failures were occurring more frequently and twice per week. The weather was not a factor. The current mileage is 27,800 , and failure mileage was 21,000.

34 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/29/2006

It started out that the car was acting up, every warning light was illuminated, the speedometer and tachometer were going all over the place (like they were bouncing). We took it in to the dealer and they said we would have to bring the car back in when it was still doing this, because they plugged it in to the computer and couldn't find anything wrong. So to the dismay of my wife we took the car back even though they couldn't find anything wrong with it. About a week later my wife was pulling into the mall (on the 29th of Dec. ), it was extremely busy, so the mall had flagmen out directing traffic. She was on a downhill ramp waiting for the flagmen to let her go. As she was sitting there stopped the instrument panel started going nuts again. At that moment her foot, which was on the brake went straight to the floor, she had lost all brake pressure in the pedal. As she was pumping the brakes she had to honk and wave to the flagmen that she couldn't stop and to move. She had traveled about a 100 feet and finally came to a stop when the car hit the one that was further downhill from her. We call reuther Jeep and told them what had happened and they said to tow the car to their shop and they would give us a rental car. They told me to contact Chrysler and have them do an investigation. They did they investigation (without driving the car) plugged it into the computer, and later told me that there was no problem with the car, and we should contact our insurance company. No other explanation was given. I did some searching online and found numerous instances where this seems to be a problem and falls in line with the recall that Chrysler had recently done on the 64000+ cars. I don't want this car back, I don't feel it is safe and I fear for my wife and kids that are always in this car. We leased the vehicle I don't see why they should be able to make this right. I just want a safe vehicle for my wife and kids.
