1 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

My Jeep Commander has had 3 different mechanical diagnostics to diagnose why the vehicle shuts off continually while in motion or stopped. The ignition switch was recently replaced as a part of a recall and this has not solved the issue either. The Jeep will randomly shut off, and all power steering is loss, causing a very unsafe condition until it can be put into park or neutral and turn back on. My last diagnostic showed the auto repair shopped a computer read of running while the truck had turned off several times right in front of them. I have spent a large amount of money on diagnostics and no mechanic has been able to find an answer even after the ignition switch was replaced as part of an original recall. I was told by all three auto repair shops that they know there is a stalling/shut off issue but they are unable to fix it because there is no indicator of why through thorough diagnostics. They also noted that when the Jeep shuts off the dash lights do not turn on as it would normally when a vehicle shuts off. When the Jeep has shut off on me driving down a major road at 40 miles per hour my only indicator that my vehicle has shut off is that my steering wheel locks up as the Jeep begins to slow down. The new ignition switch has not remedied the shut off issue and no mechanical shop has been able to diagnose and other reason why. Essentially my Jeep Commander is very unsafe with no solution able to found. I researched further and found that there was a front control module recall on some 2008 Jeep Commanders issued. I believe my Jeep Commander's VIN may need to be added to this recall for this make and model because the ignition switch recall has not fixed the issue and no mechanical diagnostic has been able to answer why. Everything else is completely sound with the Jeep Commander except this issue of shutting off while on, in motion or parked.

2 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/20/2017

Jeep Commander 2006 limited 5. 7 l engine. The complaint is as follows: while driving, at random, slow and medium speeds, all the dashboard lights activate at one time followed by immediate loss of engine power. (at no time did my knee hit the key or ignition cylinder) this issue does not clear up on its own. The only solution to avoid an accident is to immediately put into neutral, pull off the road or highway as quickly as possible. (at this time, the car is sputtering severely or stalls) next step- turn the key to off position, wait a few seconds and re start the vehicle. It starts and runs normally. The loss of power and dash light activation is occurring every other day. Upon my own further investigation, many reports have been logged (with basically the same complaint) on carcomplaints. Com, with additional video proof on u tube ( just type in Jeep Commander dashboard haywire) with several videos of the incident. Chyrsler customer care claims ( as of today) to know nothing about it - told me to call local dealer, local Jeep dealer (car was purchased new) was contacted- they claim to now nothing about it. Told both agencies to get off their butt to look at car complaints. Com or just view the numerous u tube videos. With this many complaints, I find it surprising that Chrysler to not be aware of this issue. I have followed all recalls and had the ignition lock cylinder and reprogram the final drive control module completed many months before problem occurred. Any assistance in resolving this serious safety issue would be greatly appreciated.

3 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/16/2017

I have own this car for 5 years and it did shut down on me due to I did hit the ingestion switch with my knee as we were going down the interstate. A couple years go after that with no issue. Now my 17 year old girl drives it now with no issue. Got recall littler ignition switch replacement. Got switch replaced and one for a re-flash on the power train. Now after that it has stalled out on my daughter 2 times a mouth apart when stop to make a turn going to school. Took to the dealer and they said it was a faulty front control module and only going off of stored codes b211e & b211a and don't know how many counts or how old they are. The service writer could not tell me that is a fix and the tech said that is what it need . I took the car home and I can not find these codes anywhere online. I did find a lot of complaints of this same thing and the fcm has been replaced with many other sensors and they still have the same issue. So that my have saved me over $500 that may or may not fix it. . I the parent am driving the car now till I can this figured out. If there are updated resolving this issue with the same problem please advise. Don't what to just throw away money on parts that is not on me but more of a safety issue on the Jeep company end that needs to fix this. Thanks for your time.

5 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/04/2016

The ignition would not turn off and let the key fob be removed. We finally had to have it towed to the dealership as the key would not do anything. Could not get the key to turn on in order to put the Commander in any gear in order for it to be placed on the flatbed. The win module had to be replaced and new keys bought. I do see where the win module is on recall but not the VIN # of my 2008 Commander.

11 Ignition Module problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/09/2015

I was notified of the manufacturer recall late 2014, I took it to the local dealership at that time and was advised that they did not have the parts in and that they would be in at some point this year. I asked what the actual risk was they explained the biggest risk was associated with the engine shutting off while driving and was advised to remove my keys off of my key fobs. On April 9, 2015, I parked my car turned the ignition off and then realize that there was a window down. At that point I attempted to restart the car to roll up the window and there was no power. After having the car towed to a local shop and being told they couldn't bring up anything on the computer because the electrical system was shut down, the vehicle was transported to local dealership where they identified that the win module or the wireless ignition node was defective. Now, I have been without a vehicle since that time and they are reporting that the replacement parts will be expected around may 14 of this year however ever since April 16, I have been getting different dates every single time I talk to the dealership. I believe Chrysler has exceeded a fair amount of time to replace this since they knew about it in the summer of 2014 and they have failed to provide a quality replacement part for their product. I have been in contact with both the local dealership and the 1-800 number for Chrysler(888) 327-4236 and they continue to pass me around and inform me that I'm welcome to rent-a-car and have been offered the dealerships discount. Further, they report that they are not sure when the replacement parts will be available but I will be notified as soon as they are.

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

Often my whole electrical system will flash on and off and has since Jan 2009. Three times since March of last year vehicle has turned its self off while driving (complete steering loss), fortunately at low speed. Also, in 2010 ( I have repair receipt) my transmission control module went out. I had to pay a $200 copay per request of Jeep to have it replaced, after much argument. They said my particular 2006 Jeep Commander wasn't part of the recall, as was all other failing parts included on 2006 Commander recalls, excepting ignition. Still waiting on ignition fix, its been a year.

24 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/18/2011

The vehicle was purchased new October 2007, also the extended warranty 5year 60,000 was purchased at the same time. The major problems began with the transmission electronic system, the removed and replaced something inside. Meanwhile the vehicle has been serviced and maintained by grava Chrysler Jeep since new the first time we complained and had it serviced was January 2011 and the last report was February 20,2012 and they still don't know what to fix. . Last year while driving home on interstate 93 speed approx 55 the vehicle lost power and we almost were struck by another vehicle, we had to come to a complete stop, place the vehicle in park to restart. Would not restart in neutral. The tech and service manager said it should have, well it didn't. They replaced the ignition switch, it happened again, they replaced some module, it happened again, they changed the fuel pump, it happened again for the sixth (6) time. They kept it for 10 days and were not able to find the problem, no code ,no problem that was their answer. By the way they put over 500 miles on the vehicle this time.

25 Ignition Module problem of the 2005 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

All dash board lights would begin to flash. Steering would fail. Air conditioner would shut down. All accessories would stop. Engine would stall or shut down. This would happen at any speed. A safety hazard! when taken to the dealer they initially could not duplicate problem. After multiple tries they replaced "short powertrain control module and front control module" at a cost of $1040. This repair lasted less than one year and the problem occurred again. Took it to a local mechanic and he found the problem in the ignition switch and fixed for approximately $100. Note, that I went so far as to call the Chrysler corporation and, even though multiple cases of this have been recorded on the internet, they did not consider it a problem and would not issue a recall. This issue is considered a safety issue and Chrysler is very lucky to not have paid out for any lawsuits.

28 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/11/2007

Vehicle stalls at random times at random speeds, sometimes while sitting at a stoplight, other times while accelerating , and also while just cruising at freeway speeds. Several times I have lost all power to engine, steering and electronics(lights, gauges radio), and a few times I have only lost power to my electronics and then they kick back on like nothing happened. . This is a serious problem that is wide spread throughout the Jeep Commander community, I seriously see some lawsuits in the near future due to the accidents this is going to cause. . . Im a second owner of mine and have had it for about 3 months with no problems, then within the last week it has died at least once a day. . . Thank god im still under warranty. I am going to the dealer tomorrow, they hope that replacing the ignition module is going to fix it. . We'll see.

29 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 01/30/2007

This complaint is in connection with a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. The vehicle stalled twice while on a highway service road. It is my belief that the placement and design of the ignition may be to blame for this and other stalls (which are now under NHTSA investigation). It appears that if you hit your knee on the key while it is in the ignition you can easily turn the truck off while it is in operation. Please review the placement of the ignition and its design as it appears to offer little resistance to glances from the driver's knee. It seems to easily turn the truck off. (date of incident below is approximate. ).

30 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/25/2006

Saturday 25th February and guess what- yep the Jeep has a new trick to add to its already growing list of electrical faults, (odi#10151913&10148480) please can you add the following to my long list of complaints . At approximately 12. 45pm 2/25/06 I was parked outside the rt44 branch of the ulster savings bank, having just gone in there to cash a check, I came out and attempted to start the vehicle, turned the ignition key- nothing, no lights zero response, tried again- still nothing. I removed the key put it back in the ignition, still nothing. Got out walked around in disgust, got back in and turned the key once more and this time it fired up first time. I immediately called hyde park motors service dept and spoke to kerry there, I asked if there was anything to be concerned about and he told me no providing it didnt turn the engine check light on, which it had not done. Spoke to pete the service guy at hyde park motors it turns out that the not starting when the key is turned issue is directly related to a front power train module problem that DC are aware of.

31 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/24/2005

I was driving my new 2006 Jeep Commander limited home from a children's party at approximately 8:30 pm on christmas eve and was traveling northbound on the taconic state parkway at 54 mph with the cruise control activated. The vehicle cut out completely(stall), it lost all electrical power, the headlights and all interior lighting went out, the engine shut off. Fortunately I was traveling at the time on a straight section of road and there were no other cars on the road. I went down and switched the ignition key to the off position and immediately back to the on position and the vehicle restarted and all the lights came back on. My wife was sitting in the second row of seats with our 10 month old baby and she witnessed everything and confirms what I experienced. A week ago the vehicle did the same thing , but this time I was stationary in a local shopping mall parking lot, engine cut out and the lights went off, and the vehicle immediately restarted when I turned the key. The vehicle shut off again today with my wife driving it, she had stopped and left the engine running to retrieve something from the floor, and when she went to pull away the vehicle was shutdown the dealership has ordered a new front power train module for this vehicle, and that will be fitted tomorrow morning at 10:30 am . This now represents the third separate Chrysler vehicle and sixth power train computer. Chrysler did a buy back' from me in decemeber 2005 on my 2005 durango, which after 6 months of ownership, from new had cut out approximately 7 times . My previous Dodge vehicle was a 2003, ram pickup with the 5. 7 liter which exhibited all the same problems , but almost caused me to have a very serious accident when it shutoff pulling on o a local parkway. Fortunately, I pulled the shifter into neutral and steering on to the shoulder, but we were almost hit by another car that was traveling up the parkway.
