Traveling approximately 65 mph on I-85 when the Jeep Commander made a clunk sound and the vehicle stopped. There was no power and it was unable to start. This occurred around 10pm when I was heading home after work. It was a scary experience since it was dark. I was extremely thankful for law enforcement presenting and stayed with me until the tow truck arrived. I took it to a first mechanic who stated the engine was totaled. I went for a second opinion to another mechanic since the car was made in 2008 and has about 112,000 miles but was also informed the engine was totaled. This was a shock and disappointing since I do not have the funds to purchase another vehicle.

All the electrical on my dash most the time is lines and flickers, but decides to show up once in a while for a minute or two. My big problem is starting the car. It does this click click sound most the time but then starts once in a while out of the blue. I have bought a new battery and alternator within the last year. It also slams from gear to gear! I have had four different diagnostic tests done by different places & I have been fighting with this for a couple years!.

Vehicle turned on and as I was pulling out of drive way, the truck turned off and could not get it to turn back on, it makes only a clicking sound, I have called three different Jeep dealers and say to not have the part or know when it will be available. It has been 5 months since the recall, how much longer should any one have to wait for the availability of the ignition switch and I am now without a vehicle, which is my only means of commuting. And to make matters worst right now I don't have the means to fix it out of pocket, I can't afford it. Please assist in this matter, something has to be done.
We purchased our 2006 Jeep Commander in November, 2008. The first problem we experienced was the rough vibration of the front end. We took it to our mechanic and was told that he was unable to see any thing physically wrong. This problem has increased over the years. The second problem we noticed, all of the interior door handles broke which creates some difficulty in exiting the vehicle. We maintained regular mantainence on this vehicle and the only other problem we experienced until now, we purchased two new batteries and the air condition blower was replaced. In August, 2014, I started the truck, preceded out of the parking lot and all the dash lights came on after a minute or so the lights went off but the engine light stayed on for 1 day. It has done this several times and then the lights started coming on while I was driving at any speed it appeared as if the truck was shutting down. If I was able to I would pull over and restart the truck this practice did not stop the lights from coming on and off. I was sitting at the red light and proceeded to move the vehicle when the light change after approximately 5 seconds of acceleration the truck shut completely off the driver behind me couldn't have none I was stopping because I never hit the brakes. I placed the vehicle in park and restarted it. Yesterday while driving all the lights came on and flashed off and on for about 5 minutes. I continued to drive for approximately 10 miles turned the key off and the key was unusually hot. This morning the truck would not start everything inside the vehicle came on and I could hear a clicking sound coming from the engine I waited a few minutes and tried it again, after 2 tries the truck started. If this is a manufacturer defect whom do I contact to help me resolve this matter. I am afraid this truck in it's current condition may be a hazard to myself and others.
On June 6, 2012 at approximately 12 noon while driving my 2008 Jeep Commander at 15 mph it stopped and would not start again. There were no warning lights, it did not overheat, and all of the electrical components such as the radio, windows, lights, etc continued to work, only a clicking sound and it would not start. I had it towed to Jeep. Because they have maintained my vehicle since I purchased it from carmax 16 months prior. Dealer, stated I might need a starter recommending I authorize to put one on costing me $400. Later that afternoon I was told the engine was locked up and since I was out of warranty, Chrysler would possibly assist me. I contacted Chrysler and was assigned a case manager. After 3 weeks of not being able to contact the case manager, I contaced the head office l and ask customer service to have give me answer. The case manager returned a response to have the engine taken apart to discern the issue. The service manager, did so with no cost to me because at this time I am an unemployed (chicago public school teacher). He found the defect to be from the factory whereby a spring in the valve broke causing the valve to drop down in the engine, which caused the engine to lock. Per the service manager, I nor the previous owner are at fault, and explained this to the case manager. The case manager asked him, "what does she want (meaning me) to give her the engine for free"? I am at odds with chyrsler and wonder why I am receiving such disparaging treatment from someone I do not even know? I don't want anything for free! my case # is #; the number to chyrsler is 1-877-426-5337. The cost to repair my vehicle is in excess of $6500. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Slowing down at a traffic light and the vehicle stalled. Again coming close to causing a major accident because of so much traffic. , the vehicle would not start agin for about 30 minutes cause grid lock and chaos. All I could here was a clicking sound when trying to start it. This happened multiple times after that and the last time I ended up having to steer into a steep ditch to avoid rear ending an 18 wheeler. I had my kids with me at the time. I contacted the dealer and got no help.

2006 Jeep Commander does not start. We have to try about 30 times sometimes to get it to start. It just makes a clicking noise. Also the Jeep Commander will stall while driving. (very dangerous) especially with two kids. Another problem is it gets stuck in low gear or 4x4 (not sure which). I have read complaint after complaint on the internet about these same problems with many many 2006 Commanders. I am very displeased with how Jeep has swept these problems under the carpet. Yes, they have had a few recalls, but nothing to fix these very serious and very dangerous defects. Please help, as we spent a good amount of money on what we thought and needed to be a reliable vehicle. It is not reliable at all.
2006 Jeep Commander their are 3 problems which I believe are all interrelated and probably have something to do with electrical system. Firstly, the car 75% will not start, will not crank, and all you will hear is a clicking noise. Secondly, the car while idling in traffice will lunge forward with higher rpm (with my foot off the accelator mind you) luckily I have been able to brake in time each time it does that. The only problem is that when I apply the brake the car will then stall and the nonstarting problem will reoccur. Lastly and most dangerously, the vehicle will cut out/stall at highway speeds - 65-70 mph. This has happened numerous times to me (while going around dangerous curves and thank god I have been able to control the vehicle). I have called Chrysler numerous times and their only advice is to bring it into a dealership for a 'diagnostic' where they try to replicate the problem. I have done this and believe they keep trying until the problem does not replicate because it does it almost every time with me. Chrysler has a serious problem with this vehicle. It is not only a hassle but a life safety issue. There are thousands of postings on the internet just like mine and Chrysler still will no acknowledge the problem. This car need to be 100% recalled and taken off the road as it is a death trap. I would like to sell my car but I cannot morally sell this dangerous car to another unsuspecting customer. Please help with this problem. There are thousands like me who are being told off by Chrysler. This problem must be resolved or deaths will certainly occur.
