Was driving to work going about 60 mph and motor just shuts off. Had to pull off to the side of the road and turn off the key and tried to restart engine. It didn't start on the first try had to turn key off and tried again it started. It did the same thing when I was going home that morning had to do the same thing as above to get it started again. This is very dangerous I didn't have power steering or brakes luckily I wasn't on the freeway.

Commander will turn off when pulling away from a stop sign, pulling into the garage, turning a corner. The first event was turning left from a stop light after I had been going 65mph on the highway. 11/26/2012 this vehicle to dealership following several more stalls while driving. Nothing was noted on the dealership evaluation. The most frightening event was on the highway at 60mph and simply died in the middle lane in the dark, at night. I thought I was going to die on that road. The engine panels all went down, lights went off, engine shut off. This vehicle continued to die at unexpected intervals on the road. 10/28/13 the dealership stated tipm was shorted internally, the tipm was replaced. This vehicle has continues to die while driving on the road, pulling away from a stoplight or simply turning a corner or driving into the garage from the driveway.

Car shuts off sitting at idle (stop light) I've owned this car for less than a month and it has stalled in traffic 4 times!.
Vehicle was traveling at a speed of sixty five mph on the highway, when the engine just shut off, losing power and making it very hard to get the vehicle off the road and stopped safely. This has happened numerous times in the year we have owned the vehicle. When the engine shuts off it makes it very hard to turn because power steering is disabled because the engine is not running. When the vehicle shuts off it makes it very hard to get to the shoulder of the roadway without any engine power and the sudden slowing down is a very high risk for a rearend collision. We have had numerous close calls in this vehicle because of this problem. I have replaced numerous parts to try and resolve this issue but with no success it continues to happen. The vehicle has been to the dealership numerous times to have this problem fixed and they say (we can not get the vehicle to act up with the technician driving the vehicle to exactly pin point the problem. ) this is very frustrating because this vehicle is very unsafe to drive with this issue. I have looked up numerous complaints and issues of people with the same vehicle having identical problems and have yet to be resolved. We have replaced spark plugs, coils, map sensor, mds wiring harness, ignition switch with oem parts and the issue still continues. I recommend faulty engine wiring, ecm, to the service advisors just to be ignored. They tell me until the issue is recorded on the vehicle scanner that nothing can be done to pin point the problem.
Vehicle has lost all power while driving, engine shuts down, no electrical power and had to coast to a stop. Vehicle restarts after turning key to off and then restarting. This has happened twice now, the first time on Feb. 20th, 2012 and yesterday Mar. 10th, 2012.
Traveling on the interstate hwy at 70 mph no warning the vehicle shut off. I pulled over to the emergency lane. Shut off engine and it started back up. This has been an ongoing monthly issue, sometimes it shut off 10 to 15 minutes after I have been driving. Sometimes the engine comes on for a few days and goings off. It has become a dangerous situation, when driving I have stay in the right lane so if it happens I wont be stop in the middle of the interstate. This recent time on November 30, 2012 was traveling with business clients, several other times with my wife and grandchildren. Taken to the dealer, they have tested on their equipment (charge me up to over $200. 00 to test) and told me tech couldn't find anything wrong; replace a switch. This issue has forced me in my business to travel to rent a rental car to travel out of the town as before I drove my Jeep. This is expense and making a decision if I need to purchase another vehicle: not a Jeep.

The 2007 Jeep Commander's engine and power shut off at highway speed (approx 65 mph) on I-95. The power steering and power brakes were not operational. My wife had to cross four lanes of traffic to stop the vehicle on the side of the road to attempt to restart the vehicle. The key was not bumped or touched when the vehicle shut off. The vehicle did restart after coming to a stop.
This has happened twice, I was driving home from work at 55mph with my new born child, and the engine shut off, the electirc shut off and the power sterring quit. The car behind me almost smashed into me. The Jeep came to a stop and then I turned the key and it turned back on. Please help me.

This is a repeat problem problem still not solved I keep bringing into the dealership. It has been towed, driven, etc. Data recorder. New ignition installed, new wires installed, relay switch installed now they want to try to replace the fuel pump. They are just guessing they have no solution to this problem. Time to go drive my death trap. . . . Doesnt start sometimes, and they can't figure that out. . . Today, while I was sitting in traffic on 95 my Jeep just accelerated out of no where; and I had to slam on the brake and skid off the highway to avoid hitting another vehicle. Now I have no headlights, and no turn signals. No digital speedometer, thankfully, cars still have the traditional speedometer. Lets see what happens this time around. Your right route 1 Jeep there is nothing wrong with my vehicle and its safe to drive. . . Maybe Chrysler will get there act together and learn from gm! reading me instructions on how to pull my car off the road in case of engine shut down is unacceptable! how do I handle the sudden acceleration and lack of blinkers and lights? I have had ignition/starting issues for years now; I have them dealt with at the dealership on multiple occasions and have also spent money at a private garage to fix the "problems".
We were on interstate 57 going 65 mph when all of a sudden the Jeep jerked like it was down shifting and just shut off. We had a semi behind us which almost hit us but we were able to coast onto the side of the sidw of the road. We then turned the key off and then restarted the car and it started okay but the engine light was on. The engine light finally went off by itself. Since then when driving the Jeep jerks and acts like it down shifting and the rpms goes way up. We are afraid to drive it on a highway because shutting off like that on the interstate could cause a serious accident. I am reading several complaints from others who own 2007 Jeep comanders so there has to be something faulty! this could cause a serious accident!!! we just purchased this from a dealer a month ago for our 16 year old twins. Thank god they were not driving it when that happened.
My 2006 Jeep Commander shut off while I was driving at 40mph this week. I lost power steering, my acceleration, and then the whole car shut down. I brought it to Jeep and the found absolutely nothing wrong with the car and are not providing any resolution to what I am supposed to do with the car.
The vehicle shuts off while driving. Car just shuts off all power and the engine. It restarts after a few minutes. I have taken it to the dealer, but they have never been able to replicate it. It has happened over 30 times in the last few years. I purchased the vehicle as our family vehicle. However, in the past couple years my wife and I mostly juggle our other vehicle, especially with our small children. This last time it occurred was 9/09/2013 while on the freeway at a speed of 60mph. I narrowly escaped a potentially horrific accident with a couple eighteen wheelers. I pushed it off to the side of the road by myself. Eventually it started long enough to get to an offramp where it stopped again. It was towed and is now at the dealership. However, now I see by looking online that it is a common problem. I am astonished that Chrysler would allow this to be happening and knowingly put us all in danger.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving 60 mph the vehicle shut off. When the contact attempted to engage the brake pedal or control the steering wheel everything shut off without warning. The contact was able to coast onto the emergency lane, restart the vehicle and drive home safely. The vehicle is being repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was 71,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shut off. The road conditions were not a factor. While decelerating, all of the indicators on the instrument panel flashed and the vehicle shut off. The contact was able to maintain control of the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently and the dealer could not find any failures. After the failure occurred, the vehicle would immediately restart. The vehicle is currently at the dealer and they still cannot determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer could not seem to troubleshoot the issue. The failure mileage was 33,000. Updated 02/10/09 updated 02/11/09.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the road. The failure occurred more than once. The most recent failure occurred without warning. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not move. The vehicle then immediately restarted. There was no warning before the vehicle shut off and no codes appeared afterwards. The vehicle is very difficult to maintain control of when attempting to pull off the road. The dealer kept the vehicle for a week, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. They also hooked up a scanner to the vehicle, but there were no error codes. The failure mileage was 13,901. Updated 03/12/09. Updated 03/16/09.
My 2006 Jeep Commander has stalled with me several times. The scariest when I was turning into a middle school driveway and it just shut off leaving me without any brakes or steering. It has also stalled several times at the end of my driveway. But the worse problem is for the second time in 4 months it will not start. Last time it was a tip failure. Something was wrong with the start up module. This was in Jan. 23 08. Now, April 21, 2008 it has done it again. Last time it was still under warranty and I have called a tow truck this time too. It is still under warranty but with only 3000 miles to go. I am worried this part will continue to break. I am afraid I will be alone and the car will not crank somewhere. This is not safe. You must be able to depend on your vehicle starting. The last time it was repaired with part number 4692084-ab b;lci non 8015009 whatever all that means. It was run without any problems since that repair until today. Fortunately it broke down in my carport.
I bought my 2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 in November 2007. Since buying it, the vehicle has stalled out on my approximately 8 times while driving it. The whole vehicle shuts off. I can't steer it or do anything. This could get me and my family killed. When I called about the problem, the man I spoke to acted as if I was making this up and told me nothing could be done.
My vehicle's engine unexpectedly shuts off while I'm driving. The first time it happened while I was driving over 50 mph, that scared me because I lost my power steering and it was hard to control my vehicle. The other thing is that once it shuts off, the vehicle won't let you restart on the fly, you have to come to a complete stop, put the vehicle in park and restart your engine. That can be potentially dangerous on the freeway.
My Jeep Commander has shut off on a few occasion in the middle of driving. Most recently it shut off going approximately 60 mph while going down a steep hill. All gauges, gas power, and air turned off the radio was still on. It happens infrequently and not in conjunction with any other action that I know of.
On approximately 6 occasions while driving my 2007 Jeep Commander, the vehicle has unexpectedly just shut off completely, steering wheel locks so you can't steer and it is very scary. Especially since I have a 4 year old daughter who was riding with me on one occasion. I am now reading online of many people with this car who have the same experience. The dealer told me they reprogrammed the computer, but I am terrified to drive my new car. Dealer also indicated they are not getting a lot of cooperation from the manufacturer on this one (as internet entries from others indicate as well). This is extremely dangerous. It also happened to me while I was driving on I-75 at about 70 mph. Again, the whole car shuts off and you can't steer. Something needs to be done immediately before someone is killed.
While driving my Jeep Commander shuts off without warning. The Jeep becomes inoperable, no power steering or brakes. It has happened at least a half dozen times. I initially took it back to the dealer, but they said they could not find the problem. It is very dangerous!.
Jeep Commander engine stalls while driving. Engine shuts down, steering and brakes loose power, battery stays on.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 14 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle remained off for a few seconds and then was able to be restarted. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle is currently still at the dealer. The current mileage was 39,000 and failure mileage was 20,000.
While driving vehicle the engine shuts off and the resulted power failure makes it dangerous to control the vehicle at highway speeds. This has happened three times and the dealers service department could not find a problem or reason for this.
My husband and I financed a used 2006 Jeep Commander while he was home on 2 weeks of leave from and 18 month tour in afghanistan. About a week after we took the car home it stalled out for the first time. A week after that it did it again and we immediately pulled off the road and took it to the closest dealer which was luckily less than 2 miles down the road. He hooked it up to diagnostics and told us something about the computer recording a freak reading of barometric pressure which is what made the car shut off and that it shouldn't happen again. After my husband returned to afghanistan to fight terrorism for the us army I was driving home after dark from out of town and my headlights started to flicker. . . The frequency of this kept increasing and each time this happened the interior lights would also flicker and it became increasingly difficult to have the lights come back on. Luckily I got home before they quit working completely. Today, I was at the end of a drive to visit family and the car stalled for the third time in less than a month! I lost brakes, steering, lights, ac, and radio. Traffic was heavy and I narrowly avoided an accident!!!! after about a minute, I was able to pop the car into neutral and get it started again. Thank god my two children were not in the car! I got to my relatives house and began researching this problem and found numerous complaints on the internet, something we were not made aware of when buying the vehicle. The fact that this has happened to hundreds of other families makes me livid. My husband is getting shot at everyday for his country and its okay for an american manufacturer to sell faulty vehicles to people?!?!?!.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. While driving approximately 45mph, the vehicle shut off while making a left turn. The weather was not a factor. The power steering and power brakes failed. There were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was restarted after one minute. The dealer has not diagnosed the failure. The current and failure mileages were 2,143.
I own a Jeep Commander and it has died on me for now reason now more than 7 times. I was at a stop light, sometimes on the freeway the car just stops. I step on the gas and the car doesn't move the engine shuts off and the steering wheel hardens and doesn't steer. I took it into the Jeep dealer where I leased it from and they found nothing wrong with it. They told me that there are other complaints with other Commander owners but they have no fix to it. They even told me that when they find what's wrong with someone else's Commander they would call me so I guess they still don't know what's wrong this had been happening now a lot lately. I am going to take it back again to the dealer ship and see what they say. The passenger air bag light comes on also every now and then it comes on and stays on for like 5 to 10 minutes then goes off.

The consumer provided the invoices for repair. The dealer stated windows are malfunctioning they only go halfway up and come right back down. Updated 08/22/07.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. There was a total loss of power. The vehicle was able to be restarted immediately. The road conditions were clear. The failure has occurred on three different occasions. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle. The current mileage is 30,400 and failure mileage was 30,300.
We purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander in April 2007. Since we purchased this vehicle, it has stalled on 12 separate, random occasions. I have documented the stalls which have occurred while in reverse, driving less than 10mph, and at higher speeds on the highway. When the car shuts down while on, I have to pull over (with no lights or power steering) and put the car into park to restart the car. It always starts up again with no problems. I have also noted that it occurs in both cold and warm temperatures. I have had the car in Jeep's service depts on three occasions. On the first two visits, they said they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. On the third visit, they admitted that others had complained of the same problems and they replaced the ignition switch to see if that corrects the problem. I have talked to other Commander owners who also have had this same major issue with their vehicle.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle shut down. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure, but advised the contact to drive the vehicle and, when it shuts down or stalls, have the vehicle towed to them. The manufacturer advised the contact to take it back to the dealer and request a rental until the failure is corrected. The current mileage is 22,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.
