The frame infront where the motor and steering attach rotted completely threw, separated at the weld. It is a safety hazard where steering is affected. The dash lights for the traction, abs, and even the cruise control are on and those items are no longer functional. This car was purchased in 2017, holiday automotive in fondulac, WI with this condition apparent. The mechanic who changed my oil reported it to me in the spring of 2018. And as of this spring the car is undrivable as it is broken. If this were to break while someone were driving it, an accident would happen.
Unknown.
While driving about 40mph the car violently changed lanes with no warning. Luckily no cars were near and I was able to bring the car back under control. I have experienced loose steering before but never to this extreme. I am scared to drive car fearing for safety of myself and passengers. I have read up about these cars and all the problems they have of which I have experienced quite a few myself. I was told the car needed extensive repair to the front end and that there was extensive corrosion to many parts on the under carriage.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 3 mph, the front sub frame rusted and fractured. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was towed to forrest auto repair (600 main st, wilmington, MA 01887, (978) 658-8171) where it was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 152,000.
My 2007 Jeep Compass was just sitting in the yard not being driven was not hot and it just caught on fire by itself the fire department had to come and assist with put in the fire out the fire chief stated from his investigation that it was electrical problem from the lights and as I said the vehicle was not being operated and the lights was not on.
Purchased a 2007 Jeep Compass 2nd hand and found rear subframe and suspension parts is severely rusted . The vehicle clunks and hopps with every bump in the road. If you run over the reflectors while changing lanes vehicle will abruptly jerk in the directionyou are going. Took it to Jeep there was a recall for this problem that expired in 2017 I dont think there should be an expiration date for a safety hazard that thousands of Jeeps and or dodges have they told me they cant help me.
While driving the car it started pulling to the left and steering wheel was shaking. There was also a pound squealing noise. Pulled vehicle to the side of the road and noticed the driver side fron tire was leaning inwards. Looked under the vehicle and noticed the sub frame had rusted through and broke.
This Jeep Compass was purchased for our college age daughter in March 2019, today while driving, her rear driver side wheel made a loud noise then felt like it dropped and upon getting stopped, she didn't wreck thank god, as she was pulling into our drive. Upon inspection it was discovered that her rear crossmember had rusted into. I searched and found that there had at one time been a recall on this particular part due to excessive rust from the salt belt states. We are in ky but when we purchased the vehicle it was titled in michigan, which is most definitely in that salt belt. I am not sure why this recall was not completed by the former owner but I believe it should be corrected no matter the age of the vehicle. This could have caused my daughter to be in a very serious accident. We had no information about any recall that had previously been issued.
Badly rusted engine cradle and oil pan prematurely! fiat Chrysler would not help replace even though they know the problem exists. No accidents yet but remains unsafe to drive.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle swayed without warning. The contact noticed the front and rear cross members were rusted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the cross member was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to anderson Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (5711 e state st, rockford, IL 61108, (815) 229-2000) but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 137,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. The contact stated that there was a failure pertaining to the warning light illuminating for the tpms alerting the contact to check the front drivers side tire. The contact had serviced the tire with some air and without knowing, the cross member had fractured into the tire, upon making a left turn from a fueling station and the vehicle was unable to be driven. The vehicle was near a repair facility who inspect, diagnosed and informed the contact that the cross member had extensive rust to the point that it fractured into the frame. The vehicle was then towed to a second facility for testing and diagnosis. A dealer had not been contacted yet to diagnose the failure. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle was included or excluded from the manufacturer extended warranty campaign x69 front and rear cross member corrosion, TSB 23012-14 and if the manufacturer had a specific guideline to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting for a response to determine the guidelines to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
The front sub-frame (drivers side) of my daughters car broke. Thankfully she was just pulling up to a stop light leaving a college campus when it broke and not on the highway or moving fast. The piece just snapped. I see there is an issue with some of the 2007 Compass where they extended the warranty but it does not apply to our VIN number for some reason. This is a huge safety issue.
The suspension on the 2007 Jeep Compass feels dangerous. Replaced struts and had other suspension work done, yet vehicle wobbles left to right when hitting bumps. Feels like it is skidding across the road. Noticable at low speeds feels unsafe at highway speeds.
During vehicle inspection the rear cross member was found to have rusted through. The front cross member had the same problem and was replaced in 2016 under a campaign through Jeep. Not a recall though. Now two years later the rear has the same problem but it is not covered because it had a ten year expiration from date of manufacture. This is a known defect from Jeep and should not have had a time limit placed on it. They should have been recalled and replaced. Jeep knows they are defective its just a matter of time.
Parking brake doesn't work and the stability of the vehicle is not good it wobbles around turns and I'm afraid the vehicle will roll one day. This unstable condition will happen on the city highway and city streets while in motion driving. I put on the parking brake and it does not stop the vehicle because I can drive if I forgot I put it on without any problems and I'll hear the beeping go off and put my parking brake on. I feel as if one day to school my vehicle will rock unstable and cause me to wreck even though I am very careful.
Rear driver side suspension rusted away from frame. Sub frame extremely rusted needs replaced per Jeep dealer car wanders now and rollover fear. Contacted fiat Chrysler customer service. Deny issue is there's since out of warranty. Internal memo allowed fixing of issue until Feb 21, 2017. But since I was unaware there was a safety issue until failure happened apprx mid August 2018.
Re:front frame crossmember. These parts were inspected as ok in 2014 by dealer per the Chrysler warranty extension letter about frame rot. In July 2018 rot and deterioration discovered by owner that would have been there prior to the warranty extension expiration in July 2017. The warranty extension period was too short and Chrysler should have had the vehicles re-inspected for deterioration throughout the warranty period. I am wanting a fair resolution to a now dangerous situation with my vehicle.
The underneatheth is rotted and there was a secret recall! because as a owner of a Jeep I ever got a letter and if you look online almost everyone with this year Jeep has the same problem.
While coming to a stop, at a light in heavy rush hour traffic, upon applying the brakes felt sharp jerk in steering with a loud snap noise. Not knowing what it was when light changed and I proceeded forward aprox. 2-3ft when car came to a sudden stop jerking to the left. Immeadiately placed car in park and looked out driver side window to see front left wheel angled back aprox 35 degrees and jamed into fender well. Called tow company and police arrived to direct and divert traffic, no police report made by police because no injuries or other vehicles involved. Tow truck driver & police both stated I was fortunate, because had I been going down the road when it happend it could been very serious and/or fatal to not only me but others as well. Car towed to nearest repair shop were it was discovered that subframe assembly had actually rusted/rotted through on left front end of vehicle and broke with everything attached to it (steering linkage, left axle, tie rod, etc. ) coming loose. Researched online and found there hand been a service bulletin 23-012-14 issued for front and rear crossmember corrosion and looking at other forums (ie myjeepcompass. Com) and safecar. Gov as well. Contacted Jeep customer service given case #34535927. Had to pay to have car towed again, this time to a Jeep dealer to inspect and confirm subframe failed. When I asked why there wasn't a recall instead of just a service bulletin that nobody sees except the dealer I could not get a straight answer. Jeep did agree to cover crossmember replacement after confirmed, but not to pay for the parts that were damaged from the failure of the crossmember which came to $844. 81 I had to pay. I think that would be a small price for them to pay in light of what the cost could and would have been to them for serious injuries and/or fatality related to their known defect. Now I get stuck paying for their defect.
This has been a known problem a lot ( when I googled it ). This is 100% going to get someone hurt or multiple hurt !!! the front cross member and front sub frame is totally rusted out to the the point of affecting ( steering and stability ) !!! what are you guys waiting for ???????? someone is going to get hurt with this serious safety issue !!!!!!!!!!!.
Rusted our subframe and spring.
My 17 year old son was driving home from school. All of a sudden the front end of his Jeep Compass pulled left and was very hard to steer and grinding very loud. The front left tire was pointing out and the steering wheel was off center. I took it to the garage and the main cross member rusted through and broke. I contacted Jeep and they said that there was an extended 10 year warranty on this parts due to the same issues. However, the 10 year warranty ran out in July 2016. If they know that there are issues and already extended warranty for 10 years; why don't they make it right on all the vehicles.
Took vehicle to be safety inspected, and it failed because the rear subframe or crossmember was rotted out. . . . . This is a problem known to Jeep . . . . But they said this vehicle was not covered by the warranty.
Rear cross bar axle is defective. The wheel suspension is deteriated to the point that the wheels protrude ouward from the vehicle causing extreme wear on the inside part of the rear tires to the point of wires on radial tires are exposed. The outside part of the tires show minimum wear. Mechanics say this cross bar axle is poor quality steel or steel that wasn't cured and finished properly. The cross bar axle is literally eroding with holes occurring right through the axle itself. Fear is the car is becoming too dangerous to drive without fear that upon hitting a bump the rear wheels will spread apart and the car fall to the ground.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. While driving 25 mph, the contact heard an abnormal clunking noise and discovered that the subframe and cross member were rusted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The contact called a local dealer (hillview motors, 5309 us 30, greensburg, PA 15501), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called a manufacturer and was advised to take the vehicle to a local dealer to be inspected. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
My daughter was driving and the left front cross member that had rusted and was completely corroded failed and fell on to the front driver side tire. Luckily she was going slow enough and was able to control vehicle to safe stop. If she was on the highway and this happened it could have killed her as well as others. I had just purchased this vehicle on November 2016 from a auto sales company. After the fail I learned that there was a extended (10) warranty (ie x58) that warned of this problem and a fix provided by company. I was never told this information when I purchased this car that it was unsafe to drive and should has been repair before being sold to anyone or at least inspected. I was told by Chrysler rep that the vehicle is still registered in canada and they had no idea this car was in united states so the information never followed the car. I was also told that the car make was in sept of 2006 even though it is a 2007 on title and the warranty goes by make day so my car is 6 months out of a warranty that I did not know existed because the car is still registered in canada. The information that this vehicle front or rear suspension could fail should have been the utter most concern for safe by the Chrysler company of canada and not a I hope you got our letter that your car my kill you or you family at anytime from rust failure in around 10 years or so and we know it !!! as of today Chrysler has not made a decision on weather or not they intend to fix this vehicle but the fact remain there are more 2007 Jeep Compass out there that need to be warned that the canada version of this vehicle could fail anytime I`m sure I`m not the only person who purchased a Compass from canada plant that is now in the USA that has not been told of this problem. This why I feel there should have recalled them for repair in stead of hope you got or letter. Look at picture!.
Driving my Jeep Compass and the front end started I thought it had my rocks up in the brake system took a mechanic and he blew everything out there all that stuff and then it still came back making the thumping talking noise like when you turn turn your wheel to the right or left or when you backup and I don't know what's causing it.
Driving on a highway at 35 mph and braking for a red light the Jeep front end collapsed and the vehicle served to the left. Dealer inspection revealed the front crossmember broke due to corrosion. The rear crossmember was also corroded. The undercarriage of the vehicle sustained excessive & expensive damaged. Chrysler has no recall on this corrosion problem although it has issued an action under 23-012-14. Customer notification would prevent any possible accidents and undercarriage damage but no such notification is in effect. A service visit on 10/2016 with inspection did not alert the owner or dealer to this dangerous condition of corrosion of a critical structure of the vehicle.
Chrysler service bulletin number: 23-012-14 front and rear cross-member corrosion . By what I read it should be covered, but dealership told the girlfriend that it isn't . . . This member is rusted completely through but they have stated it is not covered. This issue has the potential to cause death if final failure causes a crash at highway speeds.
Suspension subframe extremely worn out at around 100,000miles and needed to be replaced.
Started hearing clunking noise underneath the front. Took to mechanic immediately and he said my front crossmember was rusted out. He told me Jeep Compass had issued a extended warranty on the problem. T. S. B 23-012-14 is the service bulletin number. My mechanic advised me that it was not safe to drive and I was lucky to even get it there. I called my local Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer to get problem fixed. They told me it was under warranty and I arranged a tow to get it there. However about 10 minutes later the dealer said it would not be covered because it was not purchased in one of the salt belt states but was built in the time frame under warranty. It was bought in v. A. And was not covered, but west virginia is covered and that is only 62 miles or about a 50 minutes. In my opinion any Jeep should be covered for the defect if they have the same problem especially if they was built at the same time. When I seen that part I could not believe how far gone it was. Scary really. My family living is just as important as all the other families in the salt belt states.
While driving, I started hearing some bumping underneath my Compass and a day later it knock and driving rough. I made it to work and immediately call tow. A day after the tow, I received a call from the repair shop and was told that my sub frame had rusted through and broke. I only had the vehicle for two tears and a few months, and still paying for it. I contacted Jeep corp. And was told the was nothing they could do for me. My fidelity warranty states what they cover, but when I contacted them they told me that after five years they deems the bad tie rods as wear & tear. I was never told that when I purchased the service contract. If my prayers aren't heard, then I must pay $2700 out of my pocket.
K frame by driver frontwheel so rusted crack completely in half. Wheel ended up facing 90 degree to left. Wheel and frame almost separated from Jeep. Strut only holding it on. Good thing I was only going about 5mph in parking lot.
I have replaced the front and back suspension. I bought this used, and I think I was not given the proper information regarding the car.
I drove for several hours when my car started sliding to the side. I stopped to check and both my back tires were angled inward and completely ruined. I took the car to a mechanic for alignment, but he could not move the parts due to an excessive amount of rust. He mentioned that the whole subframe and arms had heavy corrosion and whole and the pieces could break anytime soon and I should not be driving the car. An extended warranty is applicable to the k frame for the model of my car but Jeep will not honor the warranty on my particular vehicle. I haven't drove the car since.
