I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, my car completely froze and stalled. Everything on my car locked up. I was not able to turn my car off. My gear shift was locked and the gear letters were flashing. After about 1 minute my car starting moving. Scariest experience ever. I have a dash cam video but can not upload the video here.

This issue has been happening sporadically over the last couple of years, but it's starting to happen more often. When driving normally, the check engine light will flash, a message "coolant temp too high" will appear in red, and the car turns off. Sometimes it will turn back on immediately and drive fine, other times I have to leave it turned off for up to 2 minutes. This happened to me twice on my drive to drop off my kid at school, and on my way to the office, on a busy highway during traffic. All maintenance has been done on time, and there are no error codes when I get it scanned. I get met with shrugs and "could try . . . " I see others have been having similar issues, so I am going to post here as well.

I bought this car year and half ago and I been doing a lot of repairs in it and now the engine light came on and stated the bank 1 and bank 2 sensor camshaft and engine is stalling and car is jerking very dangerous I did allighment new control arms engine mounts I repaired a lot I put new tires I can’t drive it on the high way it starts to jerk left and right and steering is very hard to control seats are horribale and so are the seatbelts.
I was driving home and got an error message that the coolant temperature was too high, even though the gauge showed it to be right in the middle at the normal level. The car then locked up and I was unable to turn the steering wheel for a terrifying few seconds. The car then restarted itself and I was able to drive home. A while later, I tried to start the car and it would not start and kept giving me the error message that the coolant was too high even though the gauge shows the level to be the very bottom of the temperature on the cool side. I checked the coolant levels and they were a little low so I added more coolant up to the max level and waited a few hours. Then I tried to start it again and it still will not start. Additional error messages are now popping up, including saying, the emergency brake needs to be serviced. I am going to have to get it towed into the service shop tomorrow.
2020 Jeep Compass ran hot and started beeping. First was told it needed a system flush by mechanic. There was no prior warnings of any sort as the car has has had regular fluid changes (oil etc) it appeared on 8/17/2024. Now its a 'transmission coolant fail' I have no idea how this happened at 91k miles.
While driving the vehicle on a town street, the front wheel/cv joint/axel component failed. As part of this failure, the cv joint/wheel completely separated from the axel making the car impossible to steer. This failure was unbelievable for a relatively new, low milage vehicle. (in another context--on the highway or in busy traffic, a major or fatal accident could have occurred. ) luckily the car was traveling at a rather slow speed on a road where no other cars were present at that particular time. This incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 10. The car was towed to the dealer state line Jeep (somerset, MA) on Monday, Aug. 13. The car is still at the dealership and it is curious that they claim they have not been able to find certain parts or get rims (which were damaged at the car slowed against the curb). This is a major and very dangerous defect in this vehicle. Photos and more info can be provided if asked.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel was shaking and the contact noticed a burning odor. In addition, the transmission did not shift gears as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a fractured half shaft. The contact was informed that the halfshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced recall NHTSA campaign number: 17v301000 (power train) however the contact's VIN was not associated with the recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline and report the failure. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer several times due to the failure, however the failure recently became peristent. The failure mileage was approximately 90,862.

Seat heat turns on and off randomly by itself. Screen does not always work. Transmission jumped, service transmission came on. Took to dealer. They said updates to the computer system needed done and charged me $450 saying they were not covered by the warranty I bought from mopar. If updates are required to keep you and your passengers safe how are they not free of charge and charge you almost $500 for these updates? had I been on the interstate and not a side road my son and I could have been badly injured due to this problem. I will never purchase another car “american made” again.
3 years ago the first problem started. If my car was idle for more than 15 minutes the service transmission & check engine lights would turn on. I made an appointment at Jeep but could not be helped because the light turned off the next day. I was advised this would not be covered because I had 32,000 miles on the car. Last month as I was driving on the. Freeway my service transmission & check engine lights turned own. The car slowed down. I pulled off the freeway and turned the car off. After 20 minutes I turned it back on and the transmission light turned off and only the check engine stayed on. This has now happened twice. I took my car to a transmission shop and was advised to contact the manufacturer as this is a factory issue. Code p1dd2.
I will be driving at any speed and the engine will lose power and stall. Very similar conditions as the u87 recall. I have had my vehicle at the Jeep dealership multiple times and still have yet to fix the issue. When the vehicle loses power and stalls I pull over however sitting on the side of any road is dangerous, that if I can get the Compass over to the side of the road.
The driveshaft failed at only 32,000 miles and the engine is failing. The dealership confirmed this is happening for other vehicles of my make and model.
I was dropping someone off at work, stopped at the front door, after it said high coolant temperature and my car shut off and rolled, I was about to get in a parking spot. Then I had to get my car towed because I did not want to risk it happening again. My engine and whole car shut off. It was towed to a certified dealership upon request, and is still being checking out. I could have put anyone at risk being in a public area with other cars and people around me but luckily no one was injured. The problem has not be confirmed yet. No the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance. It was given to Jeep. The only warning sign was the high coolant then it shut my car off. It first appeared right before it happened.
We drove to the grocery store 5 minutes away. After being in the store for about 15 minutes we returned to go home. We tried starting the car and it wouldn’t start, message “high coolant temperature” came on with orange engine light. We waited 5 minutes, started again and all the warning lights flashed and the car locked up. Nothing would engage, even the brakes. We had to abandon the car in the lot and walk home.
The accident occurred on [xxx] in the city of visalia, CA. I’m not sure what time it was happened and any other details because I’m not the person involved in the accident but I bought the car from a dealership located in corona, CA on [xxx]. They never mentioned that the car was involved in a collision or if it had an accident reports. Even brought a vehicle history report with the contact details. Then the first day when I bought it the engine light turns on and on the dashboard said “transmission service” so I tried to return it to them but they said “isn’t possible” so they took the car to supposedly fix it but after one day that they gave me the car back the engine light turns on again, so I had to investigate by myself and I found that the car was on a collision and it was registered as a rental vehicle in another state and after the accident it was put on sale by an auto auction. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Random shiggling when driving between 20 ad 35mph specifically goin up slight inclines or hills, hardshifting randomly some times light some no noise times catches u off guard and makes metal noise , power dips only to 12v wall and cigarette plug stops charging what ever is plugged into it or restarts the item when engin starts back up at a stop sign or stop light with autostart stop activated,.
The vehicle mostly jerks when in drive mode/accelerating. There is possible oil leakage (slightly for the time being).
I have a major ground issue, where I lose power and it makes my headlights, cab lights, and my cluster to constantly flicker. There was no warnings or anything, and has been confirmed by a professional auto care center. Another issue is the engine cooling and there is no leaks I have also had it looked over by the same professional auto care center, I also had to replace the throttle body 4 times in less than 6 months. Losing power to the vehicle is definitely a danger to others and myself and my children. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request as long as it doesn't interfere with my work schedule. Also I have had to change the ignition coils 4 times in less than 6 months also completed by the auto care center. Everything listed has been ongoing since I bought the car in 2019.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the abs, traction control, and other unknown warning lights illuminated. On another occasion, while driving at approximately 15 mph, the tires locked up and unlocked. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pcu sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, and the vehicle was towed back to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

Coolant mixing with oil three times in a month span with new parts being replaced. With further inspection, driver was not at fault. Vehicle malfunctioned. Overheating after replacement of thermostat, head gasket, and water pump. Auto start/stop goes on and off requesting service.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, and the auto stop system activated and the vehicle unintendedly stopped. The contact stated that the transmission failed to respond as needed and the vehicle had to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator was damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred immediately. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer, and it was determined that the vehicle needed to be driven for several miles to correct the failure. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the main battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer however, the cause for the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300.
Car has been stopping while driving on major roadways. Requires a restart in the middle of a highway and does not even make it to the roadside to restart. Upon bringing it in to be checked, it had 0 but no reported leak and oil light did not turn on. Purchased used just 2 months ago and only drove 6k miles. Was told to change oil every 5k miles becuase this model consumes excessive oil. I searched and found this is a known issue however my VIN # does not show a recall.
The vehicle stalled when waiting for lights and at low speed turning after the fuel tank was filled up. Multiple incidents had happened. No warning sign before the incident happened. Very dangerous because the vehicle stalled in moving traffic suddenly. Also, there was a gasoline smell near the vehicle when parked. Several mechanics tried to find the issue but failed.

With absolutely zero prior indication of a problem, the car became completely immobilized in drive while attempting to turn after being stopped at a traffic light on a busy four lane road. Every imaginable code was cycling through on the dash and all warning code lights came on. I was unable to shift the car into any gear. Meaning, I could not shift into neutral to push the car safely out of the way of traffic. Additionally the car could not be turned off. I could not roll down the windows and the touchscreen was inoperable. After approximately 6-8 minutes I was able to shift into neutral to push the car to a safer area. The same immobilization issue happened 3 days later after the battery and alternator were replaced. This time, I put the car in reverse and it became immobilized in exactly the same way. The car turned itself off after approximately 10 minutes and was towed to the dealership where it has been for 30 days. The dealership scanned the codes on the car and the result was 300+ error codes. The dealer cannot diagnose the problem but they have been able to replicate the issue. The car is well maintained and there were no warning messages or other symptoms of any problem prior to the first incident January 27, 2024. The car remains at the dealer and it is available for inspection.
This 2019 Jeep Compass, has mixed the coolant and oil causing a blown head gasket, according to the dealership, it needs a new engine, and something that is too common on the Jeep Compass, as mine is shy over 8k it is not covered under warranty. No warning lights came on, no lights of high temperature in the transmission, oil or coolant. The car did stall in the middle of the road, causing risk for myself and the child I had in the car. As this is a common problem with the Jeep Compass, how is this major issue not a recall? why is Jeep/ Chrysler waiting and endangering many of their consumers lives, and not fixing this issue??? the vehicle is available for inspection, with towing being invovled as I am terrified to drive this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, a message displayed reading ''vehicle will shutdown. Please pull over. " the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the auxiliary battery. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that again, while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle lost all motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 22,000.
Transmission hard shift especially when cold. Makes grinding noise when shifting into 3rd. We have not taken it to a dealer cause we bought it used and it’s 62 thousand miles on the car and 60 thousand is supposedly the limit for the warranty. Car has also stalled while making turns to the left or sometimes when driving straight. At highway speeds when I have gone and tried to accelerate more I push the accelerator down and nothing happens. Then all of a sudden the car takes off with a jerk and I have to hit the brakes cause it was not expected. Auto engine shutoff failure light comes on for no reason. Continually get number 4 cylinder misfire check engine warning which disappears after the car is restarted. Consumes oil like nothing I have ever seen always adding oil. Can’t check the transmission fluid level cause manufacturer did not put a dipstick for the transmission so I have to take it to the dealer to see if that is low. Don’t need the cost just for them to tell me it’s fine.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the 4wd engaged and disengaged while driving down the road. The contact stated that the brakes locked up while 35 mph. Additionally, the computer became inoperable. The contact stated that the battery was replaced, but the vehicle failed to charge. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The service 4wd message was displayed and the auto start/stop feature was inoperable. During inclement weather of snow or rain, the 4wd failure was more prevalent. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
We were driving down the road and the car started violently shaking, the check engine light went on and the car wouldn't move. The car needed to be pushed to the gas station and we almost got hit with my son in his car seat. I do believe this is a safety concern that needs to be looked into for a possible recall. The mechanic determined that the transmission needed to be rebuilt.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, both the driver and passenger side rear windows would roll down independently. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall as several warning lights would appear on the instrument panel. The contact called the dealer about the failure and was given an estimate for a diagnostic. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where they failed to diagnose the failure. The contact then stated that while driving in inclement, icy weather; the vehicle began to slide upon depression of the brake pedal while approaching a stop light. As the vehicle began to slide, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact lost complete control of the vehicle as the vehicle crashed into a light pole. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed and the light pole was knocked down as a result of the impact. The vehicle was towed from the scene to the contact's grandmother's home where it remained in their possession. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
Engine cuts out while driving. Had to pull over to the side and reset by instructions from google. Took the car to a local garage and he said it was a computer issue. This part was replaced 3-4 years ago and is failing again. A red symbol like a lightning bolt and the check engine light was on.
Good evening, my name is anastasiia kubashova, I live in boca raton, FL, USA, and own a new car: Jeep 2022 Compass lattitude VIN #3c4njcbbxnt192489. I report a serious safety hazard that can cause a crash injury or death that needs to be investigated and corrected. On Thursday, November 9 2023 I picked up my car from arrigo Chrysler Jeep autodealer located at 2250 FL-7, margate, FL 33063 where my car was present for 13 (thirteen) days for the following service: a replacement of lost/stolen car keys. On the way from the autodealer, my car started to push forward and back on the road when I pressed the acceleration pedal. The following signs immediately switched "service transmission", "stop/start system", "tire pressure". I was able to immediately drive back to the arrigo Chrysler Jeep auto dealer. When I was returning an unsafe car, they reported to "an issue with the transmission", but have not clarified the code nor explained it to me. This accident on the road put me in fear for my life and I started to feel very anxious. I could not concentrate on the road. As of today, November, 30 my car is still present at the arrigo Chrysler Jeep auto dealer at 2250 FL-7, margate, FL 33063 and I am not aware of what issue put my life and the life of my son in danger. I initiated contact with an auto dealer via email two (2) times: on November, 15 and November, 27, and have never received a response. Instead, today, November 30, 2023 at 5:43 pm I received a voicemail from enterprise-rent-a-car that “I am set up by arrigo auto dealership to return a rental car" that was provided to me on November 9, 2023, at a time when I drop off broken car. An issue with a brand new car that my family is going through and that I am making payments for is not acceptable to me or to any customers in the USA. I request to investigate the serious safety hazard defect of the car Jeep Compass 2022 that put my family's life in danger. Sincerely, anastasiia kubashova.
