The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the abs, traction control, and other unknown warning lights illuminated. On another occasion, while driving at approximately 15 mph, the tires locked up and unlocked. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pcu sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, and the vehicle was towed back to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

I purchased a 2023 Jeep Compass at the end of last year and have had issues while driving on the highway (with no cars in front or to the side of me) with the forward collision warning system going off and applying hard pressure on the brakes. Most recently, when driving on the highway the incident happened again (no cars in front or on the side of me), and nearly caused the driver behind me to run into my vehicle at 50+ mph. They had to swerve around me into another lane to avoid a collision. I have taken the vehicle to the Jeep dealership, and all they have been able to say is that they "cannot replicate the issue" and therefore have found no problems with the car.

This Jeep Compass had been a nightmare since we got it. The 4wheel drive/parking break is stuck on. We gave had it replaced already, the repair lasted a week. And now it's stuck on again. It's dangerous. It's costing us gas money, repair money, we have to keep replacing our brakes. We drive 50 minutes to and from work each way 5 days a week. Ontop of that. The headrest exploded while we were on the highway. And is now just dangling off the seat. There are several other issues with this particular vehicle, like some days. It decides to turn on, others it doesn't. Evidently there is "nothing wrong with it" when we take it in. The key gets stuck on the ignition. We paid $11,000+ for this vehicle, and if you ask me, it's a lemon from the factory, and a safety problem.

System failed was the throttle body, power (engine?) and brakes. I was unable to accelerate while going up a hill. When this happened the whole vehicle shut off which wouldn't allow me to push in the break pedal since I was still in drive. This could of caused us to be hit from the traffic following behind me. This put our lives at risk. Unknown, unsure what is being questioned as far as repeoducing a problem? it has failed my states safety inspection yesterday. I just purchased this vehicle a week ago. Warning lights were lightening bolt, abs light and traction control light.

On January 16, 2023 I left the safeway gas station on del paso rd. I came out the parking lot and made a right and stopped at the light. As soon as I stopped, my car cut off. I put my car and park and push the ignition. I press the ignition again to cut it on everything came on but the car would not start. I sat there for two hours before getting a tow at the stop light that changed colors several different times with my anxiety high because cars were honking, people were yelling at me because I was blocking traffic. I could not put my car into a different gear to even push it off to the side of the road. My car was towed to sacramento Dodge Chrysler Jeep. Later that day, the representative called and told me that they don’t know what is wrong with the car, he’s never seen this happen before and that my car would qualify as a lemon. I’ve placed a request for Jeep to buy back my car the first one was denied, the case manager resubmitted the request and I’ve heard nothing after being told I would be called in 3-4 business days. I’ve called them several times and I’m not hearing anything back. Also, I was not aware of the recall on my car until I came in for the issue on this day. Nothing was sent to me to let me know there was an open recall on my car.

Complete vehicle shut down while driving. You can be driving and it shuts off on its own which is so dangerous almost caused a severe accident. Took to dealer prior nothing is wrong with any parts on my vehicle this is some malfunctioning with the design. I have a 2019 Jeep Compass trailhawk. This is the 6th time doing this to me. After a few days it restarts with no issues.

This was a rental vehicle. My concern is the emergency brake switch. It was accidentally activated by a passenger when they were trying to pickup a coin that had fallen where the switch is located while traveling at 40 mph. The emergency brake immediately engaged and an unsafe condition was encountered. Fortunately, an accident was avoided and we resumed our trip. My concern is a child or passenger can activate the switch in these vehicles where the switch is located in the center console resulting is an accident causing harm or injury. This switch needs a protective cover of some sort or disabled while the vehicle is in motion.

The vehicle was purchased in Dec of 2023. It had a slight vibration and hesitation under acceleration a few miles after leaving the dealership, just assumed everything needed to “break in”. About a month later, we had noticed an intermittent roaring noise coming from the engine bay that vibrates the whole vehicle and sometimes stops on its own or after moving the gear selector from drive to select shift (~2000 miles). About a month later, the engine start/stop was cutting off the engine before coming to a complete stop (below 5mph) (~3000 miles). In late February 2024 I took it to the dealer we purchased from and they acknowledged the issues but were not able to diagnose, therefore, they put “no faults found” on the invoice and told me that it was the self learning of the modules and should clear up after 6 months. The above symptoms were getting worse so we reached out to Jeep wave customer support and they recommended we take it to a different dealer. I took it in around mid March 2024, they acknowledged the issues and performed a reflash on the pcm, ecm, and tcm for a recall. March 23-day of reflash and first buy back request submitted through Jeep wave. Since the day of reflash, the electronic ebrake has been activating during some stops (ebrake light not indicated on center console or on the screen in the instrument panel) and is not deactivating until the gear selector is moved to park or the vehicle is restarted. The engine start stop has been activating even when turned off. The front usb port has stopped working, the interior blower motor is making noise and the buttons on the steering wheel are working intermittently. The range per tank has gone from roughly 400 miles to less than 200 miles although the average mpg on the gauge cluster has not decreased. It has been to 3 different dealers on 5 different occurrences. It was at a dealer today (04/03/24) the service advisor call Jeep and was told not to touch it and send us home. Second buy back denied.
The forward collison icon is on, o my dash. I get a screen message the service is not working, then another to say the signal is lost. I cannot reprogram/reconnect the service in uconnect. Makes no difference for icon whether engine is running or not. This started in November 2023. The dealer is saying sensor needs replaced. Which sensor? he indicated locations of several sensors. Dealer also says front bumper and grill and something under hood needs removed to replace sensor. Takes 5 hours to replace. Procedure seems very invasive. Reading on Jeep forums on same topic does not mention this procedure and time. Saying part taken out, cleaned or replaced. My 2023 Jeep Compass latitude has 2580 miles as of today. Ridiculous that this is happening so soon or at all. Please send me info and reply to 1957pjordan@gmail. Com.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph and slowing for traffic, the contact lightly depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle almost came to a complete stop. The contact stated that he observed that the brake service warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but was a recurring failure. Additionally, the contact stated that the parking brake had also stopped engaging and the "service electronic parking brake" illuminated and was constantly illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear calipers and actuators and the electronic parking brake system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v523000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was 21,722.
My car stalled as I was about to turn after stopped at a red light. I tried to restart it several times and then I looked down and noticed the emergency brake light was on. I turned it off, tried starting it again and then it seemed fine. Later as I was mid turn going left through an intersection the car partially stalled where I could not finish my acceleration through the intersection ( it was still on but I could not accelerate however I was able to get it to sort of drift to the side of the road where it then stalled completely). Thankfully there were no vehicles headed through the intersection as I was trying to get out of the way. When I looked down the emergency brake light was on again. I did not receive any warning lights prior to this happening. I currently have it in the shop to have the issue looked at but I have had numerous issues with this vehicle since I bought it. Previous issues were not as scary as this one.
2017 Jeep Compass has been having an issue with either the start-stop mechanism or the brakes. I was at a single lane red light. The engine went through the start-stop sequence, but when the light turned green and I released the brake, the car struggled to come to life at all and began to stall out. I had to wiggle the steering wheel and shift the gears to multiple places before returning it to drive and thankfully being able to keep moving. I turned the feature off in my car to prevent it from having any further issues while I just made it to work and back home. When I got to the next light and stepped on the brake, I heard a sound and when I looked down and noticed that the parking brake had engaged on its own. Fortunately I was near the dealership, but I was terrified that I was not going to make it there even. After keeping it over night and test driving it, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle at all. This is not the first time this has happened and we took the Jeep to the dealership only to be told that there was nothing they could find wrong with it. I have found several other complaints by other people saying the same exact thing. They are having this issue and when they take it to their service center, they are being told it is fine. This is not fine, and the fact that there has been absolutely nothing done about this simply because there hasn't been any evidence is ridiculous. This is truly unacceptable and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. Period. There is something seriously wrong with it that no mechanics seem to be able to pinpoint whatever the issue is.
Car went in for recall on start/stop issue a few months ago. Recently wife parked the car and turned it off. Several minutes later went to turn it on again and it was dead. Engine would not start and electronics did not work. Could not even put car in neutral to have towed. Had to get new aux. Battery and unhook neutral on main battery just to get into neutral to be able to tow. Dealership in mt. Airy, nc is now trying to say we caused issues by hooking up battery incorrectly which is untrue since the issue happened before anyone messed with the battery.
My 2022 Jeep Compass has been experiencing engine stalling/shutting off and problems with surging or jerking and cutting off. Surging forward when coming off the brake. Engine shutting down while stopped or at low speeds, at stop signs, or traffic lights. Jerking sensation, when slowing down or accelerating at low speeds. Me and my passengers have been at risk on several occasions of being rear ended or other collisions. I have ask the dealers (sons Chrysler Jeep) service department to look at this issue on several occasions but they have said they cannot find any issues. My vehicle is currently at the dealer for this issue as it stopped 3 times in the past 2 days.
While driving down the road, all doors closed, and with the lift gate closed the Jeep Compass' emergency parking break is engaging at random. Shortly before it does this the vehicle loses ability to accelerate. A quick google search has yielded many hits on many Jeep Compass and Jeep cherokee owners from years ranging from 2014 to 2020 having the same problem and Jeep refusing to acknowledge or fix the issue. This is a serious safety concern that is going to get people killed.
Abs anti lock break system the first time it happened, I was slowing down at a stop light, and then starting back up the car stalled and would not move it had to be turned off and on in the middle of an intersection a car from behind had to skid and almost crashed into me another time I was turning onto a major. Road and it suddenly stalled once again almost got rear ended this happened a series of times, and was taken into a local mechanic each time, in which case they said it was the wheel sensors and replaced each one both independent and Jeep dealership reproduced and confirmed the issue no warning lights prior to the first issue. Every time the car was taken into mechanic the warning lights were cleared for @ 30 days each time the warning lights came on the car would simultaneously stall again.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the 4-wd, abs, hill assist, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the differential malfunctioned due to a tightening and then releasing that occurred while attempting to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed and determined that the rear abs sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure then confirmed that parts were not available nor longer in production. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Purchased in Feb 2020. The brakes have always been very touchy/grabby. It has gotten to be a situation where you dont know if the brakes will "overreact". The car has been checked several times and the dealership offers no explanation.
Engine temporarily shut itself off by itself in the freeway as I was slowing down pressing my brakes because of the cars in front of me in traffic hour. The car flashed a “coolant temperature too high” message then immediately turned itself off for a minute. The engine/coolant temperature gauge was normal the whole time I was driving (in between the cold and the high sign). But even then it flashed that “coolant temperature too high” message and shut itself off right then for a minute after it flashed me that sign. It was over 100 degrees fahrenheit outside and inside the car without ac it was awful. I immediately turn on my four ways but cars still kept coming up behind me even though I could not move my car. The car would not turn on. I changed gears from drive to neutral and then to park. And after a minute the car turned on again. Even with my four ways on, drivers kept pulling up behind me on the freeway despite my four way lights being on. I prayed I wouldn’t get hit and cause an accident on the freeway because of my disabled vehicle. A few drivers almost rear ended me because they kept coming up behind me. I kept pressing my brakes and tried restarting my vehicle. I was scared and almost got hit by a some cars. This has happened multiple times every year since I bought the car back in 2021. Before it kept happening at a stop light in the middle of the street and now it happend on the freeway. On the freeway I am driving between 65mph to 80mph and it stopping like that randomly made my heart skip a beat. I thought I was going to be involved in several accidents on the freeway with cars going over 65mph. The car shutting itself off messed up my steering and the braking system. It is a safety hazard. I have gone to the dealership multiple times for this issue and it still happens to me every year. I could have died or caused an accident today.

The Jeep's engine decided to shut off at a red light. This Jeep has the automatic shutoff for the engine when idling too long. I could not restart the engine. I blocked 2 lanes of traffic, and was unable to push the vehicle out of the way. I tried restarting the engine several times. The accessories would come on, but the parking brake would not disengage and I had several issues trying to get the shifter into neutral to push the car out of an intersection. The fire department lucky was behind me after this happened, and helped me so did local police. 5 different people could not get the car to start or engage into neutral and disengage the parking brake to move the vehicle to a safe location. This was a rental so lucky I am not the owner of a failure of a Jeep. This was an emergency situation while it was raining in traffic at an intersection. Police called a tow truck to tow the Jeep out of the intersection because it was inoperable at this point. This is the strangest issue I have ever had with a vehicle and I am a automotive mechanic. Jeep had only 50,000 miles and no previous issues. Engine light was illuminated and I didn't have a scan tool with me (out of town). The vehicle was taken to a service shop requested by the rental company. We never knew the root cause. My advice if you have to spring for a Jeep go for a bigger and better model. These and the patriots are the worst Jeeps in terms of reliability.
The engine start/stop light turned on saying it needed serviced. While driving. Then another message popped up on the screen and suddenly disappeared then my emergency brakes came on while driving and put me in a complete stop in the middle of the road. . Have not yet contacted anyone about this issue yet. Im worried that it will happen again and cause someone to rear end me.
We were stopped at a traffic light, began to move when the driver instrument display went red, said coolant was high, the car stalled, and we were hit from behind by another SUV. After we were able to restart it, the display returned to normal. We waited for the police to arrive, got an accident report and now the car is at the dealer. Also, before that the radio display was acting up with lines in I like a bad television then it would shut off. The dealer says it needs a new radio (on a 4-year-old Jeep), and they want to apply updates that should fix the issue.
Car engine shut off at highway speed car lost all power no acceleration / braking / steering this was the first time it happened. No no. As it was happening.
The brake and abs are on. Also there is a lightning bolt that appears on the cluster. The honk does not want to work as well and it is associated with the airbag since its installed with it in the center of the steering wheel.
For the second time this week , the emergency brakes have engaged while my vehicle was in motion . Both times in the middle of a busy intersection . The car gives me about 5 seconds to try to get to somewhere safe before it totally cuts off. Luckily both times I was able to put hazards on , get a clear path to the side of the road and fidget with it until it started up again . Terrifying to think that I could lose my life or cause someone else to get seriously injured because my vehicle just stops in the middle of driving . With no warning , and literally only seconds to react.
Every week of every month since purchasing this car, the electrical system more specifically the forward crash warning system which controls steering and brakes has failed. The system is continually turning off and it has been for repairs where they have replaced the sensors and cameras. No resolution has been made and it’s been now sitting at the dealership since September 1. I’m making payments on a car that can’t be driven. Furthermore every loaner Compass I’ve been given has had the exact same problem no sooner than driving off the lot. The bright light upon system failure is a distraction and the system not working right is a danger to life, limb and property.
I have 3 issues with my vehicle: 1. Whenever I am in my vehicle for more than 20 minutes the radio starts to fade out and eventually all sound on the vehicle is muted. This happens every time I drive the vehicle for more than 20 minutes an can only be resolved by shutting off the vehicle for an extended period. 2. I was driving on the highway at 65 mph when my car suddenly started braking and nearly caused a rear end collision with the vehicle behind. I tried to continue pressing the accelerator, but the car was not advancing. Fortunately the vehicle did not come to a full stop and I was able to recover. 3. Just the other day my vehicle started to display a light on the dashboard that has warned me that the forward collision warning system is now off. None of the above issues have yet to be inspected by the dealership. I have an appointment on February 3rd. It was very difficult to find a dealership with availability. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. All these problems appeared within the first 5-days of owning the vehicle.
I have a lease car with just over 37 months and was told by the dealership the brake pads and rotor need replace because I did not drive the car enough. The car has only 20k miles.
While driving on a busy road the car could not accelerate and the emergency brake turned on by itself causing the car to stop abruptly. This has happen 2 times in 1 week.
The car has gone completely dead on at least 5 separate occasions since I got it about a year ago. There could be a plethora of reasons why but the dealer never seems to have an answer. The car can shut off for up to 5 minutes in my case and I’m usually stuck in traffic. It is dangerous and produces severe anxiety. When the car stops like that the e brake comes on and sometimes all I can do is manually unlock the door to get out can’t even move the shifter. I have had numerous issues with the car feels unsafe until they fix the root of the problem.
Numerous times while driving at a low speed the emergency brake suddenly came on for no reason. Car lost all ability to accelerate or brake at all. Had to be shut down multiple times to clear system to function again. Extremely dangerous in traffic for this to happen. Car has only 10000 miles and is maintained in every aspect.
This vehicle has two dangerous issues: 1) it brakes unexpectedly and for no reason during drive. This has happened to me at least 3 times while driving on the freeway without any cars close in front or around me. Bells and whistles just go off all of a sudden and vehicle brakes for no legitimate reason, throwing me forward. 2) this vehicle stalls while driving. This has happened to me 6 times. Engine just falls dead while in drive. I have to put it in park and restart the engine. This could get me killed.
About two weeks ago got to my destination ok. As I was leaving I tried to start the car and the brake pedal was hard to push. The car would not start but it would turn on. Nothing was left turned on before I started it. I looked at the voltage and it said 12. 0. I kept turning on and off and the car would not start just turn on(radio and lights). Finally said maybe a jump would help. I found someone who could jump my car and it finally worked. Voltage went up to 14. 2. My battery was changed exactly one year ago by a Jeep dealer. Then this week I was driving on a local street and at a red light I stepped on the accelerator to go, the run stop feature stalled my car and shut it down. My breaks went hard, the voltage went down again. I was stuck on the street. I turned my hazards on to notify other cars. My son was in the car with me too. My anxiety level shot up. Ive had one too many issues with this car. I left the car off for about 10 mins and tried starting it again. Finally it turned on, weak, and all the lights went wonky but then it got stable and started running. I prayed that I get home safely. I did, and made an appointment to the service dealer. It is at the shop right now and they are trying to diagnose my car. Definitely a safety concern.
