1 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/25/2020

Clicking noise from suspension area when driving. Vehicle only driven at slower speeds as it's vehicle my daughter drives to school. I took to mechanic and he said the frame is badly rusted and just touching it to show me the frame was breaking. Vehicle has to have the frame replaced to safely drive vehicle again. This shouldn't happen to a car of this age.

I recently took my vehicle to a local shop because of loud clunking noises. 6 Suspension Noise problem of the 2008 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

The rear crossmember/kframe is completly rotted thru. Almost all of the suspension parts are very rusty and needs replaced. I did not find out it was this bad until I heard a thumping sound coming from the rear of the vechicle. Did research on the internet and discovered that this is a common and major problem. I was driving at highway speed when the thumping began. This is one of my family cars and I am scared to death to drive. I am parking it until I can get it fixed. I contacted Chrysler about the problem and they blew me off. They said that the extended warranty only covers 2007 models but this is a problem up to 2009.

7 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

The vehicle with approx 120000 miles on it in 11/2015 had the passenger side and drivers side ball joints replaced. In 4/2016 the passenger side ball joint failed and pulled out of the steering knuckle as I backed out of my driveway, I had it replaced. Two weeks later the driver side ball joint pulled out as I made a right hand turn into a walmart parking lot. The failure caused my strut to be bent, the inner and outer tie rods to be twisted around the half shaft drive axle, and the drive axle to be pulled out of the transmission. My lower control arm needed to be replaced as well. Luckily most of the damage was covered under my insurance. If it had happened on the highway I'd have needed a casket and an undertaker as well! yesterday I went to get an alignment done - and to check as to what was making a clunking sound under the front end - I was told I need a new passenger side lower control arm, inner and outer tie rod ends and a new lower ball joint. . . Yet again! the third ball joint in two years!!! this auto I bought used for $8k is turning out to cost me twice that amount in repairs. I have not done a "carfax" on this vehicle to determine how many times the front end suspension items were replaced prior my purchase of this vehicle. However, having owned this car for only a year and a half, it has been in the shop nearly every two months for critical structural, or engine repairs. Why has there not been a safety recall on this vehicle ?!?! this car is a lemon!.

8 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

So since I've purchased my vehicle. All I can hear is clunking noises as if there are no shocks or suspension to this 2007 Jeep Compass 4x4. I bring my vehicle for an oil change and the mechanic tells me that the front and rear sub frames are completed rotted. These sub frames from what I know is very dangerous if not taken care of. It holds your suspension together. Why isn't there a recall on this matter yet? are they waiting for someone to die for them to make this issue a recall?.

9 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

At first my car was wearing out tires often ( 83, 068 miles) than it also started having a rough ride. . . Thumps, clumps and clicks when you drove or turned the wheel, than the ride got rougher, it honestly gave me headaches from the noise as the wheels rolled on, ( I got tire rods , control arm and ball joint replaced in June 2014, seven months later control arm, ball joint and tie rod broke, (my wheel was dangling apart from my car) as I was transporting my son to his bus stop, 'luckily no one was injured" my car was towed to a mechanic($600. 00), I had my car repaired and was informed the right side was in dire need for ($465. 00). This car requires a lot of suspension work, I currentl have 87,000 miles on my car now , (fairly low) my car now stalls out when I stop for a red light,it has even putted as if the gas isnt circulating to the engine, 'major issues".

10 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I heard some noise coming from the front passenger side of my car at low speeds. I took the car to the mechanic who discovered a giant crack in the a-frame, apparently due to corrosion. It looks like the metal just rusted all the way through. This frame holds the suspension together, so the wheel could fall off now that the frame is cracked. This could be extremely dangerous if it happens at high speeds. This is obviously a defective part that should not be failing at 68,000 miles of a well-maintained car. The really bad part is that the part probably isn't covered by warranty. This is a major safety issue and the part should be recalled and repaired by Jeep. I should not have to pay for this.

12 Suspension Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

I took my car to my mechanic to have the front end checked because of clunking noises on the driver's side. The mechanic found the front left lower ball joint/control arm in need of replacement. I've already replaced both outer tie rod arms (at 75,000 mi). The mechanic told me that both problems are a common occurrence on all Jeep models. The repair will cost $509. 00 . As this is a major safety issue, I would request that NHTSA please investigate the suspension problems on Jeep Compasses.
