2 Suspension problem of the 2025 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/11/2025

Accident on [xxx] at [xxx], I headed out of the timberlane estates neighborhood to go to volunteer at the nwr in crystal river and was behind 3 other cars going out of the same neighborhood. As I started to turn from [xxx] (25 mph) to [xxx] (decelerating to about 10), I had to fight the steering wheel trying to straighten it out but instead the car continued left and hit a car at the stop sign. This shook me up quit a bit. When I got out, the driver of the hit car and I traded information. We both have state farm insurance. Called state farm to report the incident and took pictures of the front of both cars and of the skid marks. Called my husband and as we waited for the tow truck, we realized that the cv joint (?lower all joint) was totally out, which also caused the tire to flatten as well. We realized from the skid marks that this occurred as I was starting my turn. That’s why I lost control. There were no injuries, though I was shook up thru the next day and sore in my right wrist, shoulder and neck. Car went to jim hudson collision center crystal river, FL. Car was inspected by them and the state farm insurance adjuster. The attached photos are from the hudson collision center. I have a few taken at the accident site if you want them too. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/08/2025

When starting the vehicle the error message comes on with the man holding the air bag and it comes on bigger in the dashboard too. And feels like the car runs hotter with this message on. If someone is riding in the passenger side and I get into an accident. It could be deadly for that person. So the area is on the passenger side. Yes spoke to the dealer at flow Volvo in greensboro nc, and she know about the problem of the car also. I do see in 2017 there was a patrolman that noted the kbb about the situation. Now I was no there so I do know abything about it,just read this on the kbb information for the car. And as I have stated when you start the car the the warning lamp with the man comes on small holding the air bag and in the dashboard also. Also uploading pictures of the warning lamps.

6 Suspension problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/23/2025

The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that initially, while driving approximately 65 mph, the rear-end of the vehicle was swaying. Upon inspection, there was severe rust on the rear suspension of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed that there was severe rusting to the rear suspension, with fractures on the passenger's side of the vehicle, with a fractured, detached suspension on the driver's side. The mechanic replaced the rear sub-frame, stabilizer links, and control arm. Approximately one year later, after driving 130,000 additional miles, the daughter informed the contact that oil needed to be added more frequently. The contact was informed that while her daughter was driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated quickly; and while depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine revved abnormally and coasted before decelerating. The driver was able to make it to the nearest parking lot and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with a rear catalytic converter failure; however, replacing the part failed to fix the vehicle. The mechanic advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors had failed; however, the vehicle was not repaired. Subsequently, a different mechanic replaced the front catalytic converter and performed an oil change. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

7 Suspension problem of the 2022 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/24/2025

Aggressive premature tire wear on the inner section of the tire tread on a 2022 Jeep Compass (purchased December 2022). Mostly on the front tires, similar slight evidence on rear tires. Alignment was investigated in March 2025 by commercial repair service center (not dealership). Alignment is within factory specifications. Service manager only recommended replacing the front two tires, as there was nothing they could do for the alignment - pictures attached of front tires. Back tires were rotated to front position with new tires mounted in the rear. Five months later front tires now need replaced with mileage at approximately 28,000 miles. Internet search for similar issue has overwhelming number of complaints documented by other owners across the u. S. And canada. All complaining of replacing tires due to perceived alignment issues from the manufacturer.

9 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 11/09/2024

I took my vehicle to a dealership for diagnostic and was told the lower control arm in front is making noise. They want over $700 for labor alone. I looked up the issue online and saw a recall but my VIN isn't on the list so they won't fix it. Please add my VIN because the issue is apparent.

10 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Hello,2018 Jeep Compass 4x4 with 35,000 miles. Backup camera screen half blacked out, can't use features without or see. Many of these Jeep screen radios are defective and should be recalled at 900. Also sway bar links are weak, broke two times. Should be recalled do to plastic like part and for a front end that is disgusting. Are these being investigated?.

11 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/17/2024

Vehicle started rattling going over bumps.

12 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

Rust thru/failure of the front cross member subframe. I noticed a clicking/rubing sound coming from the front of my 2011 Jeep Compass. Over several days it got worse. I took the car to the same dealership that I bought the car from new and was told it was a rust thru on the subframe and that the car was not safe to drive. At this point there were no warning lights or other indication that the front end was approaching a catastrophic failure. I contacted Jeep and was told that a special 10 year extended warranty had expired in 2022. The dealer offered no help in covering the cost either. I was never informed about the extended warranty, or I would have had the car checked. The thing that really makes me mad is the rust thru occurred on only one side because the a/c drain was routed so it dripped condensation onto the frame on that side. I have the subframe and have included pictures.

13 Suspension problem of the 2016 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/05/2024

I bought my 2016 Jeep Compass latitude in September of 2021 with a warranty which because of some rotor and other issues they gave me a loaner vehicle while they did the repairs for a week or so. It didn't give me too many problems for a while but then in these last two years or so then a lot has been breaking on it or acting up & I only got a little over 86k miles on it, but any warranties are expired at 80k. I've replaced the battery, the rear hub/bearings 2x, all of the rotors & brakes 2x now, I go through engine oil even though I do regular oil changes on it, and most recently it was doing a "death wobble" that was so unsafe I was afraid to drive it myself let alone have my son with me in case it did it & it was very unpredictable when it would happen too, generally over 45 mph and after I had been driving for over 15 minutes would be the most likely time for it, unfortunately not always though & the 1st mechanic I took it too couldn't even get it to do it. The 2nd mechanic suggested changing the driver brake line to the caliper to see if that helped since I'd just replaced that brake caliper but that the majority of my front end suspension, hub/bearing & axle, spring coils, etc. Would all need replaced because of how worn out they was already looking too (it was exactly 86003 miles when I went to the 2nd mechanic) and if it was still doing it after that then he would figure it out, thankfully replacing the brake line seems to have stopped the "death wobble" problem for now. I'm not sure this is even a valid complaint, if not then I apologize but I've never seen so many parts, issues at once, esp. With that mileage. The unpredictable "death wobble" is definitely a safety concern at least & incase others have all these costly problems at once too. I just got my Jeep paid off & have to have cervical & lumbar surgeries ASAP so I will just have to fix it ASAP. Originally, via mopar site, I was here trying to find my Jeep's specific specs/build sheet for those parts.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds and making turns, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side and passenger's side control arms were fractured, and the inner and outer tie rod had failed. The mechanic determined that the parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

15 Suspension problem of the 2022 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/12/2024

17 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/02/2024

The rear subframe and suspension are rusted. I have been hearing a rattling sound for the past couple of weeks, especially when driving over bumps. When I took the car to my mechanic, he detected a cracking in the rear subframe/suspension due to the rust. If this would totally break it would be a substantial safety risk to myself, the driver, as well as other drivers on the road. No warning lights or messages appeared on the car to warn of this problem.

18 Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/25/2024

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Compass. The contact initially became aware that the rear passenger’s side tire was resting at an angle. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the rear struts replaced; however, the mechanic informed the contact that the rear suspension was extremely corroded. The contact was also informed that the vehicle was not safe to be driven. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

19 Suspension problem of the 2012 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

The rear suspension crossmember and suspension control arm rotted out on my 2012 Jeep Compass. Also, cross member cracked. Two repair shops inspected the damage and told me that I should be very careful driving the vehicle to get it repaired because there wasn't much hold the rear wheel on. They both said that the problem cause cause a catastrophic failure, which would lead to the rear wheel falling off. At highway speeds this might cause a serious accident. Both repair shops also said they have seen a lot of Jeeps with this type of rust damage. The steel used for the components must have been inferior or the factory rust protection on these components was inadequate. There are probably thousands of older Jeep models (compass, patriot, etc. ) driving around in a dangerous condition. The only warning that I got was a slight squeaking noise when I went over bumps. The sound would be fairly normal for an eleven year old vehicle. But, I decided to get under the car and spray some liquid lubricant to try to eliminate the squeak. The crack in the crossmember was up high on the underside of the car and it was difficult to see. Luckily, I noticed that the component was entirely cracked in two pieces. The second repair shop told me that Jeep extended the warranty on the components to 10 years. This was due to the large number of similar issues reported. Although the 10 year period ran out in my case in September 2022, I still plan to contact Jeep to see if they will reimburse me for a portion of the repair. But, I believe that a recall should be issued before some Jeep owner is seriously injured due to this problem. The repair cost is in the thousands of dollars. I have attached a photo showing the crack in the crossmember.

20 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 09/09/2023

2011 Jeep Compass with 62,000 miles on it the subframes rod about the wheel almost fell off the arm that holds the wheel fell off the rear frame and that could have caused the real big accident accident would have lost control of the vehicle and they told and dealership told me that the warranty expired 2 years ago it was a 10-year extension on it so they did not do it it's because they used cheap metal and they know they did but they will not fix it I just fixed the rear subframe and all parts going to it and all bolts cost me 1500 dollars I do not think that's fair I hope you look into it because they are robbing people thank you I hope you can do something about it and I can get reimbursed and have my front one fixed too because that is rotted out too I just don't have the money to do both.

22 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/17/2023

Please require Jeep/stallantis to initiate a recall for all 2008-2012 Jeep Compass' impacted by excessive corrosion to the subframe and front/rear cross members due to an inadequately designed ac drain located right above the vehicle subframe. Condensation from the ac drain drips directly onto critical frame structures. Therefore, excessive and premature rusting to the front & top sides of the subframe occurs because the subframe is constantly wet with the operation of the ac, as well as during the winter months while dehumidifying the air. Of course, road salt throughout the winter in the “salt” states further exacerbates the problem. Extensive rust to the subframes have deemed the vehicles unsafe to drive despite being in otherwise good condition w/ reasonable miles. No safety/dashboard lights, warnings, or operational concerns were present indicating potential safety concerns until the driver either experienced a dangerous driving situation or failed a vehicle inspection. Jeep has known about the significant safety implications, yet failed to effectively remediate critical safety concerns. Although Jeep extended a front and rear crossmember warranty (x69 warranty), they neglected to properly notify vehicle owners of the extension. They did not make any type of public announcement to inform or warn drivers of the critical safety issues, did not notify owners of access to free yearly inspections to monitor the subframe. Owners using independent mechanics rather than oem Jeep dealers have not been afforded the same opportunity to access the x69 warranty extension & inspections. Jeep has yet to demonstrate sufficient accountability for the ongoing critical safety and security concern. Acknowledging an insufficient ac drain design and issuing a recall for the ac drain, subframe, and front/rear cross members affirm they stand behind their brand, reputation, & value passenger and vehicle safety.

27 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

While running errands, a woman pointed out to me that I had dropped the rear passenger side control arm. She was very concerned about me driving it. I assured her I understood. And that with a mile to drive, I would use flashers and drive slowly. The following day my Compass was brought to my mechanic. I received a phone call I never expected! the rear crossmember was rusted out, and the subframe. Above that, there was nothing to bolt to! the car was scrap- and, yes, it is available for inspection. This absolutely is a safety issue. The steering became unpredictable, harder to control. I could have lost a wheel, caused an accident that could have been fatal! the disabled car should not be on the road. I did visit the dealership local to me. I carried with me a TSB dated March 2017 about this very issue. I was told my car was "old" and did I get it serviced there? unfortunately, no, I bought it used 2 years ago. There had been a 10 year warranty extension and now my car was out of warranty? I had no notification. And, even so, why would Jeep deliberately ignore all the complaints on their forums? three people at that dealership knew of this problem and said there was nothing they could do. My car is a 2011, I am a risk-free driver, no accident history. The car itself is clean. There is 40,000 miles on it. The previous owner was meticulous with service calls, getting recalls fixed, oil changes etc. The car was solid when I bought it. I did not abuse, misuse, or neglect my Compass in any way. This is a defect on the manufacturer's end. The folks on your very site are detailing the same severe corrosion. The 2011 and 2012 Compasses and 2011-2012 patriots were affected. There are forums with owners trying to get compensated, trying to bring attention to this.

28 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/08/2023

The suspension has completed rusted through. My mechanic can stick his arm all of the way through. There was a recall on other vins but not mine so far. There needs to be one since I wasn't told about this safety problem until my mechanic went to replace other parts. I was never told this through any means. Jeep needs to do better. I am now out of a car and will have to pay thousands just to get the parts fixed.

29 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/14/2023

In 2019 my 2011 Jeep Compass front subframe rusted really bad which cause corrosions. I called Chrysler and advise if there was a recall on this and they told me no. I paid for the repair to get it fix, fast forward to today I took my car in for an oil change and was informed the rear subframe has now rotted and is also causing corrosion. I called Jeep and was advise the recall expired in 2021 and there is nothing they can do. Please be mindful that I was told that there was no recall on this back in 2019 when I called. It is very unsafe for me to drive with my 4 year old in the car knowing that my subframe is severely rotted which is causing corrosions. Jeep was not willing to help with this recall and I think it’s insane due to it being a safety issue.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the air condition pipe was clogged causing the antifreeze to back up and leak. The pipe was unclogged.
