40 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/18/2022

I was driving on a local street when all of a sudden I started hearing a rattling sound coming from the front of the car. Next day, I took it to a mechanic. They notified me the struts needed to be replaced. Struts replaced and fine for awhile. 2 months later im on the highway heading to work. I hear the same sound starting again. I take it back to the same mechanic. They say the sway bar link needs to be replaced. Since I was just there they would replace at no charge, but I would have to pay labor fees. I didn’t care. Just wanted my car fixed. My car is my livelihood. I use it for work. Single working mother here.

41 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/16/2022

-the vehicles front subframe failed to support the vehicles stability, structure, weight, and momentum, during normal driving ,braking, acceleration from a stop, etc. -the corroded and complete 'rusted thru metal' subframe is available for visual/safety inspection, and photo's are attached. - safety was severely compromised while driving, as the "subframe to main channel frame" fastening bolt was sheared and broken off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer, without control, due to the engine weight and front end suspension/components shifting out of position. - independent service centers and auto- mechanic statements in multiple car safety forums have indicated similar situations have occurred, and could be fatal at highway speeds/conditions. - the vehicle is scheduled for dealership inspection and consultation for further use, and/or repair. -no warning lights were initiated at time of this issue. Steering wheel vibration, and loss of steering control occurred.

42 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/14/2022

The frame infront where the motor and steering attach rotted completely threw, separated at the weld. It is a safety hazard where steering is affected. The dash lights for the traction, abs, and even the cruise control are on and those items are no longer functional. This car was purchased in 2017, holiday automotive in fondulac, WI with this condition apparent. The mechanic who changed my oil reported it to me in the spring of 2018. And as of this spring the car is undrivable as it is broken. If this were to break while someone were driving it, an accident would happen.

43 Suspension problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 04/08/2022

I took my car to be inspected for yearly registration. I was told by the repair shop that I have parts of the subframe and suspension that are excessively rusted, to the point where they are a safety concern and have to be replaced. Other model years of the first generation Jeep Compass have been issued extended warranties on those parts, and I believe it should be extended to the entire first generation of the Jeep Compass.

46 Suspension problem of the 2010 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 11/29/2021

My front and rear sub-frame rotted out, making my vehicle dangerous to drive for me my family and other passengers that ride in my vehicle,it is also a danger to other vehicles and persons on the road. Chrysler knows of this problem with 2010 Jeep Compass but has never issued a safety recall, it seems only fair that Chrysler should held responsible to recall this vehicle since they used cheap parts knowing they would not hold up in states with heavy winters and the use of salt on roadways.

47 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/18/2021

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that an abnormal squeaking noise would emit from the brakes as the 4-wheel drive and tire pressure warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who discovered severe corrosion was on the entire subframe, but mostly on the front end of the vehicle. The mechanic replaced the rear passenger’s side rotor; he also informed her that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the corrosion. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.

48 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/23/2021

While driving about 40mph the car violently changed lanes with no warning. Luckily no cars were near and I was able to bring the car back under control. I have experienced loose steering before but never to this extreme. I am scared to drive car fearing for safety of myself and passengers. I have read up about these cars and all the problems they have of which I have experienced quite a few myself. I was told the car needed extensive repair to the front end and that there was extensive corrosion to many parts on the under carriage.

49 Suspension problem of the 2012 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

The front and rear cross members have severe corrosion. These components are available for inspection upon request. The front cross member has a corrosion hole through an entire section. In addition to severe corrosion through out. The rear cross member had corroded to the point of failure while the vehicle was being operated. This resulted in the drivers’ side lower control arm to break away and rest on the ground. At this point the vehicle was inoperable and was required to be towed to a service station. This occurred at a speed of 25 mph, the car was immediately stopped because of the noise heard. If we had been traveling on a highway, this could have resulted in an accident. There was not warning of this impending failure. The passengers side of the rear cross member where the lower control arm is attached is also severely corroded. The rear cross member has been repaired along with ancillary connected parts. The repair was conducted by a local repair shop.

50 Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/24/2021

I was informed about my rotting subframe on my 2009 Jeep Compass about a year ago. I took it to a Jeep dealer for a second opinion as well as contacted Jeep. I was told about some extended warranty that I was not eligible for. Now, 1 year later, my vehicle will not pass inspection without replacement of the subframe. I contacted Jeep again. Of course, since this was extension of warranty, only the original owners were notified. This should have been a recall. This is a safety hazzard and should not have happened to vehicle just over 10 years. Jeep purposely did not issue a recall to save money.

51 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Alignment went out on camber, no factory adjustment is available. The choice is wear tires uneven and risk a blow out or put in after market adjustments. Alignment is a normal part of the maintenance of the vehicle, not making the adjustments available is wrong and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive without greater cost to the consumer.

52 Suspension problem of the 2019 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

I parked my car in my drive lastnight just like every night; and I walked out this morning and the back end of my car was in the street! it rolled back more than half of my driveway! please understand that yes it snowed here in NJ however there was rock salt (a significant amount on my driveway - township grade) there was a very light amount of snow nothing crazy that would've caused this. My driveway is not a hill or harsh slopping at all. I'm concerned for not only my safety and of course for my car, but what if that rolled further?. . . What if it hit someone walking their dog. . Or another vehicle passing by?.

53 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

54 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

My wife and I noticed alot of hard banging in the rear and front of vehicle , at the speed of idling out of our parking. Crossing any rail service no matter how new and we'll built the loud bangs in the front and rear are there at even the slowest of speeds. I have crawled around under our Jeep best I can , the front member and rear are beyond rotted, I can only get pictures of the rear damage but the front is horrible also. .

56 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Subframe has a big whole in it. Was told it will not pass by state inspection due to safety reasons.

58 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/23/2020

The passenger side strut has already broken, the vehicle is under 20,000 miles. Also the vehicle has already had multiple repairs under warranty for faulty backup camera and computer in the car. When operating the vehicle, even on smoothly paved roads, the strut rattled and makes noise. The car has not even had its first inspection yet and there is a possibility that it may not pass with this issue. The strut gets worse over time.

59 Suspension problem of the 2008 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

My subframe has completely rotted out. My local dealer informed me it is out of warranty. I see thousands of people have the same issue which is why you extended the warranty but nobody informed us about it! the design of this model is flawed; the parts are inferior for a snowbelt state and to top it off the exhaust from the air conditioner leaks directly on the front subframe. 3 separate mechanics have told me this should not have happened; I should not have to pay for parts you know are no good. Please tell me you are going to stand behind your products! we own a company and have several Jeep vehicles but if this is not fixed we will be trading them all in and will move to another vendor who will stand behind their products and wants to keep their customers safe! even the local dealer said this was ridiculous and that you should be doing a recall on this!.

60 Suspension problem of the 2012 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

The rear cross member on my 2012 Jeep Compass has completely rusted through in multiple locations. This includes much of the subframe as well.

61 Suspension problem of the 2018 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

Issue is what seems to be with the front suspension and it's alignment. I'm pretty sure there's not anything broken, in fact I'm actually baffled unless it is a possible camber issue/setting. More specific: negative camber, causing both tires to bald on the inside, evenly if that makes sense. (but I'm not going to act like I know my stuff, cause it's not my profession) see attached below. . . Also spoke with service supervisor mentioned (over phone), he says a potential toe out, in which is also on attached sheet. If needed I could send the photos of the tires wear pattern. Car mileage (43k) vehicle does not pull, vehicle was not in motion, & we've only had the vehicle a little over a year. Read about other recalls of same make/year thus reason behind complaint. There in the attachment, looks a little over-emphasized, however, issue is this bad.

62 Suspension problem of the 2019 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving over bumps in the road, the vehicle shook abnormally, rattled, and became unstable. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,000.

63 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/29/2020

Purchased a 2007 Jeep Compass 2nd hand and found rear subframe and suspension parts is severely rusted . The vehicle clunks and hopps with every bump in the road. If you run over the reflectors while changing lanes vehicle will abruptly jerk in the directionyou are going. Took it to Jeep there was a recall for this problem that expired in 2017 I dont think there should be an expiration date for a safety hazard that thousands of Jeeps and or dodges have they told me they cant help me.

64 Suspension problem of the 2019 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 05/08/2020

It sounds like the framing under my hood is bouncing. Anytime I'm driving on the road, I hear knocking every time I hit the slightest bump. Sounds as if something is loose and not secured. Definitely scary since it's a 2019 Jeep Compass, basically a brand new vehicle.

65 Suspension problem of the 2014 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at 5 mph, there was an abnormal clicking sound detected. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact stated that the radiator, cross member, front end, air conditioning conductor, blend door actuator and bolts were replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact called kirkwood autoworx (7321 roseville rd #9, sacramento, CA 95842) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. 67 Suspension problem of the 2011 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

Severe rust in the front and rear frame crossmember.

68 Suspension problem of the 2008 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 10/17/2019

Rear subframe rusted to the point of needing replaced. Car has only 97000 miles on it. There is no reason that the car should be this rusted, there needs to be a recall on the rear subframes, and add additional support to ensure the safety of the vehicle.

69 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 08/03/2019

While driving the car it started pulling to the left and steering wheel was shaking. There was also a pound squealing noise. Pulled vehicle to the side of the road and noticed the driver side fron tire was leaning inwards. Looked under the vehicle and noticed the sub frame had rusted through and broke.

70 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Failure Date: 07/24/2019

This Jeep Compass was purchased for our college age daughter in March 2019, today while driving, her rear driver side wheel made a loud noise then felt like it dropped and upon getting stopped, she didn't wreck thank god, as she was pulling into our drive. Upon inspection it was discovered that her rear crossmember had rusted into. I searched and found that there had at one time been a recall on this particular part due to excessive rust from the salt belt states. We are in ky but when we purchased the vehicle it was titled in michigan, which is most definitely in that salt belt. I am not sure why this recall was not completed by the former owner but I believe it should be corrected no matter the age of the vehicle. This could have caused my daughter to be in a very serious accident. We had no information about any recall that had previously been issued.
