Brake Disc Caliper problems of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee - part 2

When driving over 55 mph vehicle vibrated when the brake pedal was pressed. Dealer tried on five different occasions to fix the problem. The calipers/rotors, and pads were replaced, some more than once.

The brake rotors and pads keep wearing out, and the vehicle makes a chatter noise and vibrates when the brakes are applied. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership and the brakes were replaced six times. The problem started on August 21, 2000. The replace brakes wore out at six to seven thousand miles. The dealership replaced the front rotors, the pads, the front calipers, installed a technical service bulletin ( TSB) kit, resurfaced the front rotors, rear brakes pads, and rear rotors; each of these have been done multiply times. There have been no accidents as of yet.

Within four years approximately 8,000-10,000 miles both front brake rotors had to be turned twice and then replaced. Also, both front calipers had to be replaced. This causes vehicle to vibrate and make a grinding noise when braking. Dealer and manufacturer were notified, and were unable to locate the cause. The brakes pulsated while driving. The dash vent did not work, and the air only worked through the defrost. The consumer stated the front end of the vehicle felt loose, the dealer discovered the ball joints needed to be replaced. The driver side rear quarter panel was loose.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee front calipers warped 4 times in 3 months, upgraded to diamler Chrysler modified calipers, problem persists. Resulted in an inferior braking condition which turned the car into a road hazard several times. Diamler Chrysler has not issued a recall to date.

Vehicle had brakes repaired 10 times since purchase. Dealer replaced rotors/ turned rotors,/replaced pads and calipers on every visit. After 4000-5000 miles, vehicle vibrated again when applying brakes, also extended braking distance. Dealer could not remedy problem.

Defect in rotors/calipers on 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. Braking at 40 miles & above car shimmied. Rrotors changed under warranty three times within first 2years. Adams Jeep, west street, annapolis, MD would no longer cover under warranty. They denied there was a defect. Chryser rep said it was my driving and washed their hands of me. My neighbor had same problem and he said a friend of his who works for a Jeep dealership in maryland told him there is a defect but it is not the rotors, it's the calipers that sit on top of the rotors that was warping them. He gave me his paper work and it showed a special "package" chryser had put together to take care of the problem (I can send you the paper work). I faxed to adams Jeep, enclosing my neighbor's paperwork and told them I knew now of the defect. I demanded they fix my car with this pecial "package". They called fifteen minutes later and said "ms gingell, when would you like to come in and we will take care of this for you at no charge!" I have another friend with same car/year who has same trouble and adams Jeep has refused to fix the problem for free. Brake calipers are defective causing damage to the rotors and pads. Mjs.

There was a severe vibration in the steering wheel when the brake were applied. The mechanic indicated stated there was a TSB on this issue to replace the brake calipers, rotors and pads to correct the problem.

Since the purchase of the vehicle consumer has experienced problems with the calipers. The vehicle has been in for repairs several times for repairs of this defect. There has been vibrations felt about every 10,000 miles after a repair. Consumer requests reimbursement of monies paid for repairs.

The rollover valve gas tank and fuel pump leaked. Also, consumer complained of brake problems, such as caliper replacement every 6 months. In addition, ignition malfunctioned. Consumer attempted to start the vehicle at least 3 times before it actually started.
