70 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

While traveling at higway speed of 50 mph consumer started to brake and noticed steering wheel shaking, and vehicle started to vibrate. No accident or injuries have occurred. Vehicle has experienced pulling to one side while braking. Consumer stated that about every 7ooo miles rotors needed to be replaced.
We have experienced a recurrent problem of a hard shimy/ shaking when applying the brakes suddently at speeds of 50mph and above. The dealer has repaired the problem 4 times since we purchased the Jeep in December 1998. We are currently in the process of trying to get the dealer to repair the problem for the 5th time. We are concerned about the safety of our Jeep, as well as all those other Jeeps with the same brake problems, being on our nations highways. Jeep is not responsive to our concerns.
Brake pulsation/noise. Over bumps pedal drops to floor, braking reduced. Accident almost occured.

Excessive wear of brake rotors;. At 1,349 miles of wear both front rotors were replaced. 13,949 miles, both front and rear rotors needed to be replaced. Dealer notified, but would not replace the rotors because the warranty was up. Consumer traded this vehicle in for another.
Repeated vibration and smoking of brakes ove 22 months; no identification of source of problem by maufacturer. Authorized dealer service; no assistance from manufacturer; lemon law complaint initiated 4/01.
Rotors warped initially at 3000 miles. Turned twice before replacement at 9000 miles. Then turned twice and replaced at 18,000 miles. Warped again and turned again.
Strong vibration in steering wheel column when brake is applied firmly at high speed. Driver side windows fails to operate. Defective wiring harness in rear door causes warning chimes when going over bumps or making sharp turns.
Brake rotors warped 3 times, and had to be replaced 3 times. This caused extended stopping distance and may have resulted in a crash. Common problem. Please provide further information.
Steering wheel shakes when brakes applied, checked at 6920 miles service center stated it was abs. Steering wheel violantly shakes, and at 18000 miles rotors turned, again three months later and again at 41000. The symptons are being corrected but the problem is not being fixed. Until the problem is fixed we will continue to have trouble and have to pay because the customer service hide behind thier warranty. . . And won't help us.
Whenever brakes are applied they cause vehicle to wander across the road while traveling. Dealer notified, and all rotors were turned twice. But problem still reoccurring.

Front brakes pulsate at 50-60mph to the point where it is dangerous. Failure at 3350, 9600, 14800, and 22000 miles. Dealer repaired/replaced rotors three times.

Brakes continue to fair and shake uncontrollably when applying brakes on highway. This seems to occur approx. Every 3 months.
None of these things have been fixed to date. Dealer was given 2 chances and kept saying they could not see anything. Took to another dealer & they said drive shaft, brakes, pinion & gear, back glass all needed replaced. Would not work on vehicle because of dealer fraud. Bought oct. 1999 new. Had been in service since sept. 1998. Did not want to get involved. No safety defect listed in the summary.
There was hard pulsation when brakes were applied at speeds of 55mph and higher. Dealer inspected vehicle and determined that brake rotors were warped. Problem has reoccurred after about 3000 miles.

Brakes are in being repaired for the 3rd time, they insist it's my driving habits not a problem, they shimmy and vibrate at low and high speeds. I have the rotors replaced and ground twice now. The car pulls to the right also.

Rotors on front brakes overheating and warping. . Dealer cannot seem to solve problem even by replacing with new rotors. Terrible vibration when braking. Also transmission makes a loud clunking sound when stopped and shifting. Last item is that front tires are cupping. . . Dealer stated that is because the vehicle has full time 4 wheel drive.
When attempting to brake under normal braking consumer noticed the brakes pulsate, causing poor braking. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Please provide any further details.
Upon braking, my car shakes all over, especially the steering wheel, and front end. Was told it was rotor, that warped. Also told there was recalls on other years. Would like to know more.
When stopping at red light and idle was at a normal rate vheicle would stall. Dealer had vehicle 4-5 times, but cause was still unknown. Also when braking and coming to stop, steering would start to pulsate. Dealer has rewinded drums, but defect kept occurring and cause was unknown.
Transaxle bearings, and now abs issues including rotor problems.
When stopping from about 50mph vehicle vibrates excessively, also causing the steering to vibrate excessively. Dlr has not seen vehicle. Keyless entery failed.
Subject vehicle has been returned to two (2) different dealers on five (5) occasions for warranty work on excessive noise when placed in gear. Subject vehicle also has been returned to replace front brake assembly due to brake fade and excessive noise. Subject vehicle has also been returned for warranty work to correct vehicle transmission slip (when accelerating from stop (I. E at traffice light)). Subject vehicle has also been returned for replacement of front passenger seat cushion fabric bunching up - this was not repaired as Chrysler rep said this is "normal" for seat cushion.
When the brakes are applied, the pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer and manufcturer have been notified.
At 4,000 miles while driving at speed over 40 mph, applying brakes to slow down, steering whell and tires will shake back and forth. 2. The vehicle will get stuck in 4- wheel drive.
Every eight thousand miles, brakes need to be replaced. Dealer has replaced 3 times.

The brakes have been a problem since about 9,000 miles. The car has had brake service 3 times and will now go in for a fourth time. The front end shimmies when stopping, and the brakes pulse, making very unsafe conditions at highway speeds. Chrysler disavows a problem, howver, there are numerous complaints on your consumer database, and there is a service bulletin(050398) listed. Additionally, there is a recall for brake problems with the 1996-1999 models. I believe you are missing a serious safety issue.
