14 problems related to front suspension have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (gc) limited 8 cylinder quadradrive has given me nothing but problems since I bought it in October of 2002. I had the transfer seal replaced due to it leaking, the differential makes noise, the all wheel drive does not work (all wheel drive only works in low), and the tires lock up and make a noise when I am turning. It seems that their are other 1999 Jeep gc owners out there with the same problem. How about a recall to fix this problem?.
Vehicle continues to pull right after 2 alignments. Random, loud mechanical clunk coming from right underside when going over small bumps or drop-offs. Brake pedal shudders again after having rotors replaced first, then more recently lapped via on-vehicle lathe. Steering ticks / clunks at random. Moan from under hood when turning at slow speeds. Acrid white smoke from under left hood getting into passenger compartment when spinning 4-wheels in snow.
While driving vehicle will pull to the right. The faster the vehicle is going the more it will pull to the right. Dealership cannot fix problem. Ts.
After almost twice a month trips to the service provider and being told that my allignment was a result of my driving there was a recall posted for a part that caused allignment problems. Although this was eventually fixed, my tires suffered and had to be replaced very prematurely. After contacting goodyear and Chrysler I was told the tires were my responsibility and that the "bad" part would not have caused significant tire damage. I still feel that although the problem is better it is still apparent and I would like it to be resolved. After owning this car for less than 2 years the myriad of major component failures is rather frustrating especially when the Jeep service providers won't acknowledge the problem and seem to not care about their customers who pay their salaries. This is an embarressment to the american car industry.
When braking at high speedsjeep wobbles on front right side. Jeep was taken to dealership on August 4, 1999. There, the rotors were either turned/ grinded. Please provide any furhter information.
Several dealerships have not been able to resolve problem. Front tires are grinding away the interior wall of the wheel wells. Tire is now grinding on steel chasis and beginning to erode itself. Chrysler has no solution after 6-8 visits for repair in 4 months. Mechanics recommend the car not be driven until a solution can be found due to safety reasons. . . In the meantime I have purchased a new vehicle I can not drive and neither the dealership nor Chrysler will replace the defective vehicle. ( dot number: tire size: 245/70/r16 ).
Continued problems with vehicle. No safety defect (s) listed in summary.
It appears that something in the front end is out of alignment or out of balance, and that has been causing front end components to wear out. The symptoms are steering wheel shaking and rotors that wear/wap at an abnormally high rate, causing brake pulsation. To date the steering column/linkages have been worked on 4 times. The front and rear brakes have been serviced/replaced 8 times. At one point the steering linkages was so loose that any change in the road surface caused a change in vehicle direction.
Oscillating noise/virbration coming from front, under drive at 70mph,disappears under coast.
While turning left or right vehicle makes noise and front end'jumps' and skids.
Vehicle pulls to the right. Dealer attempted fix 4 times. No success. Also squeaks from the steering column when wheel is turned left. Dealer unable to fix.
On 4/14/2001 car began violently shaking at 50 mph, steering wheel shook and whole car and as brakes were applied rear end shook. Took car to dealer. They could not duplicate problem. Nothing done. Told to bring back if it happened again. On 5/10 happened again took it in and person from sevice dept. Rode with me as it violently shook. Felt as if it would fall apart. But again the sevice dept. Said they could not duplicate. I wouldn't take it back -felt it was too dangerous to drive. On 5/22 got car back with solenoid and transducer replaced. But still scared it might happen again.
When making sharp turns either right or left ,vehicle feels as though wheel wants to fall off. Front end will wobble and shake. Dealer claims it is a normal characteristic.
