Applying brakes lightly at speeds in excess of 45 mph causes vehicle to vibrate excessively and pull off a straight line. The vibration has been increasing for sometime but the pulling caused me to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle due to safety concerns if the brakes were required in an emergency situation. The Jeep service center claimed warping of the rotors as they have for all other cases. This seems to be a defective part.
Vehicle front wheels shimmied violently at highway speeds when brakes are applied. Vehicle has only 20,000 miles and is a 2002. Dealer says not under warranty even though it has a 3yr, 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Dealer stated front rotors are warped and need replaced at my cost.
At approximately 30,000 miles, the vehicle developed a vibration/pulsation during moderate braking. The dealer said there was a service bulletin on this problem and replaced calipers, pads and rotors. At 50,000 miles the problem returned. This time, the dealer said it was my problem, and they could do nothing about it other than turning the rotors. The problem dissipated somewhat after having the rotors turned, but has returned and is more pronounced at 53,000 miles. The vehicle can be somewhat difficult to control at highway speeds during moderate to hard braking.
Pulsation sensation while braking. First noticed between 6000 -8000 miles and less than 12 months. Dealership said nothing wrong. Approx 10000 miles and over 12 months dealership replaced warped front rotors. No charge this time. Approx 15700 miles and 16 months dealership again repllaced warped front rotors. Charged for 12 months/12000 mile warranty. Dealership admitted this was a common problem on vehicle. No permanent solution offered.
Front brake rotors warped prematurely. As a result, when applying brakes extended stopping distance occurred.
While braking the vehicle shimmied. The dealership informed the consumer that the brake rotors were warped. The consumer also experienced this same problem when driving on mountain curves. There was a clunk sound coming from the rear when the vehicle was stopped, as if something was moving forward. The driveshaft was removed along with the lube slip joint.
We have had 3 front brake rotor incidents in 3 years with a caliper/rotor replacement @ 8,000 miles. Front rotor resurfaced somewhere around 20,000 miles and replaced again at my own expense at 28000 miles. The problem was severe enough to frighten my wife (she is the primary driver of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo) because of severe steering wheel shake and brake pedal pulsation when the brakes are applied. Most severe when entering the off ramp on the interstate. I kept the old rotors that the dealer installed at 8,000 miles. The dealer was not willing to replace the brake components the last time saying that they are "wear items" and I was past the 3 year warranty. Obviously there is a heat problem with the brake components. Most likely cause would be calipers failing to release or some type of restriction to the brake fluid returning to the master cylinder. I know of one other owner of a Jeep Grand Cherokee with similar problems.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee front rotor problems. The vehicles rotors have been replaced three times in 25 months due to rotor degradation.
The brake rotors on the Jeep Grand Cherokee go bad anywhere from 6000 to 15000 miles. My first set lasted 9500 miles and were replaced free of charge by the dealer because they told me they were defective. The second set only lasted about 6700 miles, and they had to be resurfaced. After complaining to diamler Chrysler directly, I only had to pay a 50 dollar deductible, which I shouldn't have had to pay at all, being that Jeep rotors and defective, and they seem to admit to the problem, but won't do anything to fix it. I don't think it is right that the costurmer should have to pay for a problem they refuse to fix. I only have 16000 miles on my Grand Cherokee, and I have had rotor problems twice already. Something should be done about this.
The brakes have always been weak, however at 26,000 miles I had to have the brakes resurfaced. My mechanic has the same vehicle and he told me that this was a defect with the brake system, and that eventually the brake system would have to be replaced. Now at 33,000 I need to have the rotors replaced. I have been told every few thousand miles I would have the same problem.
Purchased new 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, brakes began pulsating mildley at 15,000 mi,moderately at 20,000mi & severe at 25,000mi. Dealer refused to repair, said there had been no recalls reguarding brakes. Unless Jeep or the dealership offers to fix I will buy Toyota or Honda for my next vehicle.
Vibration in brakes. . . Weak brakes. I have had them resurfaced at 26,000 and now need to have the rotors replaced at 32,000. I have already been told that this will not correct the problem and that my brakes will need to be completely replaced.
I have had the rotors on my 2002 Jeep replaced 3 times. The vehicle has only 23,000 miles on it. Currently there is a service bulletin for rotor replacement. Any thoughts of a recall on these rotors??.
The rotors and brakes were replaced @ 9200 miles due to severe vibration and pulling of the steeling when braking. This reoccured at 16000 miles, the dealership that this would be the "last time" they replaced them. Now again at 23,000 the steeling is shaking and pulling. I have a difficult thinking that it is "driver error" that is causing the breakdown.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd 4dr taken in because of brake failure. Was told drums had warped and to permanently fix problem would be $800. 00. To temporarily fix it was, $119. 99, but the problem could come back. My claim is that there are problems with the vehicles' front brakes and that after as little as 5,000 miles, the steering wheel and front wheels "shake" and that drivers encounter severe vibrations through the steering wheel, floor, seat and pedals when the brakes are applied.
Car has 14,000m, the steering wheel shudders at 50mph when brakes are applied. At 5-10mph they can be felt grabbing an releasing.
Brakes pulsate and shake the entire vehicle under light braking pressure at highway speeds, dealer informed that vehicle missed build date to be covered under warranty by 25 days.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee - I purchased the vehicle new in 2002. The steering wheel shakes and is hard to steer when brakes are applied above 50 mph. Brakes pads and rotors were replaced at approx. 7,000 miles, rotors were resurfaced at 15,000 miles and at 18,000 miles the problem is back again.
Consumer had to replace brakes, pads, and rotors 4 times in 9,000 miles. When applying brakes car will shake violently.
Jeep engineered brake system for Grand Cherokee 2002 year results in steering shimmy when brakes are applied at high speed(50mph+). Jeep does not cover under warranty after 12 mos or 12k mi. Rotors have to be resurfaced at considerable expense.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The consumer stated that the vehicle has 34,000 miles on it and the brakes have gone out twice. The consumer contacted the dealer, and they stated that they do not have a recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer the first time and it was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, and they replaced the pads and cut the rotors. The problem occurred 20,000 miles later. The vehicle has not been into a mechanic this time.
I had the front rotors replaced at 9000 miles due to brake pulsating. I now have 17000 miles on the vehicle and the brakes are pulsating again.
On 9/9/03, the dealer says the rotors are warped again on my Jeep. In 11/02, they supposedly replaced the rotors and calipers for the TSB. Is is 9/03 and the rotors are warped again. The Jeep has 17,000 miles. This is absurd.
Like many other complaints I have just read, my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee vibrates when I apply the brakes, especially highway driving (fast deceleration).
The brake rotors were serviced three times because the vehicle shook when driving or when engaging the brakes. Dealer and manufacturer refused to make the repairs again.
Brakes shutter when applied. Dealer says warped rotors/ calipers, & pads need replacement, Jeep is just out of warranty ,and they want a small fortune to repair a know defect. This is a safty issue that needs to be recalled.
Consumer complained about a brake problem. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the brakes were pulsating and whipped the steering wheel back and forth. Consumer talked to the service manager and the manufacturer, and was told that warranty expired, and they won't repair without charging the consumer. There has been a front brake rotor problem since 3/06/02. Vehicle still has problem.
I first bought a 2000 Jeep gc. Excessive and violent vibration when braking almost caused an accident. Dealer replaced rotors at 5k miles at no charge and said it was a known defect in gcs. Later I bought a 2002 Jeep from same dealer. I asked if problem was corrected and dealer said yes. At 15k miles, same excessive vibration caused an accident. Dealer acknowledged it was the same defect and replaced rotors at no charge. Same problem occurred again at 38k miles. Dealer resurfaced rotors but charged full price. He asked me to complain to Chrysler directly. I sent a complaint to Chrysler in every instance but never heard back. Chrysler should correct this problem and make these repairs at no charge.
While applying the brake pedal vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the rotors needed to be replaced, and replaced it. However, the problem recurred. This information was provided by mr. Jerome wife karen jakubco.
The vehicles brake rotors warped which caused the brake pedal to go to the floor.
The consumer states that the brakes 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee vibrate and jerk you all over the road at high speeds above 40 mph. Even at low speeds you can feel the vibration when you apply the brakes. The first problem was at 7,986 miles and the owner had to have the brake calipers and rotors replaced as per instruction. The owner said that the vehicle was under warranty. The second problem is at 19,000 miles on the same vehicle, the brakes are doing the exactly same thing again. The owner has not had the brakes fixed at this point because the Jeep dealership said would call the owner back after they talked to the factory representative. The owner has not talked to any one at Chrysler but customer services and they would not give the consumer any information. The owner feels like the vehicle was not fixed right the first time. There are not any recalls on the vehicle. The owner is waiting on the dealership to call and tell him what to do. The vehicle has been regularly maintained.
2002jeep Grand Cherokee needed front brakes & rotors at 12,000 miles because of vibration when braking, they were replaced by the dealer. Vehicle now has 23,00 miles and doing the same thing! going back to the dealer!.
Excessive run out in front brake rotors on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee after only 14,000 miles causing excessive vibration when braking.
At 14,000 miles dealer replaced front rotors and pads because the rotors warped. This caused the vehicle to grind and vibrate when applying the brakes. At the present time dealer had to turn the front rotors again because the rotors warped. Dealer believed that warping was due to the brakes being used on wet road. Rear oil leak. There is a noise in the transmission or drive line under drivers seat area.
Front rotors failing, 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 35,000 miles,3rd set rotors, there is recall on Jeeps prior to 2000 for same(see below),not fixed, vibration of front end on downhill when brakes applied, vehicle hard to slow/ vibration. Rotors, calipers & brakes replaced 3/5/2003 @ 18,500 miles. Replaced again may 2004 @ 35,000 miles. Recall should apply until problem is resolved, there is no resolution to date. My Jeep was mfg in Jan 2002, before a service bulletin authorizing replacement of rotors, calipers & brakes. Since there is no fix at this time, it would seem the company is responsible for all repairs connected to the above problem until a resolution is achieved. Daimlerchrysler corporation models: Jeep cherokee years: 1996-1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee years: 1996-1998 number involved: 637,973 dates of manufacture: July 1995 - October 1998 defect: on certain multipurpose vehicles, the front disc brake rotors could experience severe corrosion if operated for an extensive period in certain "salt belt" states. If the rotors are not replaced before this occurs, the corrosion could eventually compromise the structural integrity of the hub section of the rotor. The reduced strength of this rotor could allow the cast iron wear surface to separate from the hub, reducing the brake effectiveness of the vehicle. Vehicles included in the recall were originally sold in, or are currently registered in, the states of connecticut, illinois, indiana, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, or wisconsin, and the district of columbia. Remedy: dealers will replace the rotors with rotors that utilize a stainless steel hub section. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began June 5, 2000. .
