45 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2014

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly lost all power on CA hwy 17 during rush hour. It was as if the ignition switch was turned off. This nearly caused a multi-car collision, followed by a terrifying near miss by a motorcycle. After several attempts, where the ignition switch acted completely dead, the car suddenly re-started. I understand that there is a recall related to the ignition switch, but the documentation I've seen implies that drivers are hitting the keys with their knees. I can assure you that I was on a straight stretch of (very busy) highway, and there was no contact between me and the keys. In addition, there were a total of four keys on the key chain, with no other significant weight. I'll be happy to weigh the entire keychain and send a photo of the digital scale results, but this was not a case of having a large mass on the keychain. The Jeep almost killed me. The Jeep dealer had the vehicle for three days, and cannot reproduce the problem, and informed me that parts to replace the ignition switch are not available, and there is no estimated delivery date for the parts. They also recommended not driving the vehicle. My concern is that the recall is misrepresented by Chrysler, and is more dangerous than the recall implies. Of course, I'm also concerned that I have a 4500 lb brick in my driveway until this can be resolved, and must rent or lease another vehicle in the (indeterminate) interim. I'll be more than happy to submit the vehicle for any testing or diagnostics requested, as long as I don't have to drive it anywhere without an escort vehicle.

58 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

Shortly after I bought the Jeep, I started having issues with the whole dash lighting up as I was driving down the road. I was notified by Chrysler, on 09/29/14, about a recall on the ignition switch. As of today, 6/26/15, the part is still not available. This is completely unacceptable as this issue, obviously, may result in serious injury or death. My dash keeps lighting up and now the brakes are giving me issues. We have had the brakes changed out, rotors and calipers have been changed as well as sensors and there has been no improvement which means it is related to this recall. I am tempted to visit a lawyer in regards to this matter as it is very serious and can cost my family, as well as other families, their life. Updated 09/10/jb.

59 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

At approximate June 2014 I received a recall notice for the ignition switch. Chrysler said approx. Delivery of September 2014. I have not heard or received anything since then. My concern other than the unsafe ignition switch situation is that every time I use my Jeep, my airbag warning light flashes on and off continueously. As time goes on, the worse it gets. My dealer says he has checked others vehicles with the same problem; his best guess is it's related to the ignition switch. He also said the airbag should be a concern because it may activate at any time. . . Even without an accident! Chrysler told me not to be concerned. . . How can I not be concerned? what else can I do?.

60 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Dash light flicker on and off and message reads service brake system check and advise. Brakes completely replaced a year ago and only drive 7500 miles per year. It is not the brakes. We have researched internet and feel it is an ignition switch problem and pervasive with others as well . If just one key in ignition with no other weight of other keys attached, no problem. However, problem surfaces when any weight of additional keys attached. It almost stalls the car when it hits sometimes. Congress is opening up a probe with Chrysler now and it should be expedited. Car at dealership twice in past month for this problem and still not fixed. We have had prior problems in previous years of ownership as well. It is similar to recent testimony from general motors on their defective ignition issues.

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

I received a Chrysler safety recall notice over a year and a half ago for faulty ignition switch for our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My Jeep is starting to experience issues with the ingnition and the dealer tells me they can replace the ignition with a new one subject to the same recall issues at my expense non reimburseable since the part is not the new improved replacement ignition. This is very concerning as the vehicle is not safely reparable and experiencing issues. Please advise !.

63 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Upon driving my daughter to school my transmission would not leave 1st gear. Rpm's would almost red line, I would let off the gas to let it shift and nothing, it stayed in 1st gear. Well when I looked at the gauges, my lights for prndl were all lit up instead of just "d". Boxes around every single letter. I proceeded to put the car in neutral and put it back in drive and still all 5 letters lit up and engine bogged down. It took several minutes for what like seemed forever for it to get into gear which was drive, I backed up traffic because I couldn't do the speed limit and had to use my hazard lights on the side of the road. This was my first occurrence, this has happened at least a dozen or more times since then to include yesterday Jan 5 2015. Every time I contact the dealer or ask on Jeep owner website, I get " sorry sir the only recall listed is the ignition switch and we don't have a part for that. " I checked the website and apparently my Jeep had been serviced for the transmission back in 2010 at 70k miles but does not explain what they did. I also need to put in another complaint about the transmission. June of 2014 and still to this day the gear shift can be moved from "p" to any gear, and that is when no keys are in the ignition. I was working under the hood and my 4 year old son did just that and almost ran me over. I checked and the vehicle had no keys in it they were with me in my tool box because I didn't want him to do just that.

64 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I received a recall for my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee . This involves the ignition switch. The ignition switch is defective and could catch on fire. I took it to our local dealership after smelling burnt rubber and they found my ignition had indeed melted. My vehicle and others could catch fire at anytime, is there not something you can do? has not sent parts to dealership for it I had a choice and replacing this with another possible defective switch but that was to come out of my pocket(500. 00)! the recall is over a year old and still no replacements parts have been even designed. Isn't there a time limit on this? I've complained to Chrysler and was told there's nothing they can do about till they put out the new part!.

67 Ignition Switch problem

We have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is on the ignition switch recall p41. Our Jeep has not been able to start on many ocations and not is dead in the water we cannot get it to start. 68 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

My car engine shut off after driving 0. 1 miles out of the alley in 2012 and again in 2013 after approximately 1 mile driven and it shut off. I was able to restart in neutral, but of course lost all power steering and brakes until it could restart. I thought it was a cold engine, however I received a recall from Chrysler 9/3/2014 and asked that the ignition switch be replaced. It is now 1 year afterward and they still have no parts to repair, only suggest that I use a single key. Honestly, this could have been much worse, it is time to have it repaired, but apparently they can't manufacture the parts in 12 months.

69 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

While driving on city streets or on the highway, the dashboard lights turn off. The break lights, turn signals, and headlights don't work either, but I am still able to drive the vehicle. The vehicle still drives normally. My knee doesn't hit the ignition switch. I have had this happen many times. Shutting the vehicle off and restarting it sometimes turns the dashboard/electrical system back on, but then the engine light stays on. I have taken it in to dealerships and mechanics, but they have no idea what the problem is.

70 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

We received a recall notice June 2014 for ignition switch. My vehicle dash board, gauges hear, air, everything shuts off at least 5 times a week. I am told from subclass that the part is still not in. In doing research, I have found the some cars completing shut down. Some while driving 60 on a highway. This needs to be fixed. I feel that over a year is long enough. I need my Jeep fixed and safe to drive around with my 4 year old grandson in the back seat. Thanks, deb.
