36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

The problem was the same one that a lot of people have had with it losing acceleration or not wanting to accelerate. My mechanic checked for a code and found out the problem was in the shifting assembly. He had to take out the center console and replace the shifter assembly. He said that a module was faulty in the shifter assembly and was putting the car into limp mode. This seems to have taken care of the problem. I thought I would share this information so others would know about it.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

As I was driving my Jeep shut off and I was unable to steer and started to slow down in the middle of the freeway going 65 mph. I was unable to get out of the road and on to the shoulder causing several cars to almost hitting me. When the Jeep stopped I put the SUV in park and tried starting all it did was make noise. I then stepped on the brake and put in netural and tried starting it and it wouldn't start. I waited a few minutes put the Jeep back in park and tried again and it started but I'm scared to drive in now. This happened to me 4 times now but the other times it is when I am either coming off the freeway or on a city street not going that fast and in that much traffic.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

Shifts from park to neutral by itself, wont down shift at certain times, shift from drive to neutral at high speeds then shut off the truck.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose acceleration power sporadically. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the transmission swirl unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 76,000.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2013

The drivers window regulator is not working. Second problem is when I start my Jeep up and put it drive it sometimes makes a clunk noise , like it' going in hard and all the boxes light up around the p. N. R. D. And it has no power. I have to turn it off and restart it and it clears it up.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

First my rear window light would come on during cold weather and would stay on this happened at 35,000 miles. Then my directional stopped working had fixed it had something to do with inside the steering column. This happened at 82,000 miles. Then a few weeks later drove myself to the drs when I came out my Jeep wouldn't start. All the interior lights, radio, directional, windows worked but when I turn it on I hear a click then nothing else. Car wont turn over at all. I waited about an hour of trying before it decided to work and turn over. I then proceeded to drive 5 min stopped at a gas station for gas, when I shut it off and tried turning back on same thing happened. I waited about 45 min before it would start back up. Then no problems for 5 days. Now again its doing the same thing except I left it over night and it still wont start. I called Chrysler after looking online and seeing a lot of people with complaints that were the same as mine except these people spent thousands trying to fix and replace everything yet still no luck they continue having this problem. So this is a very well known problem with Jeep and even after bringing to Jeep dealer and having a diagnostics done with no problems showing up. They don't know what's wrong suggested replacing wires, starter, something in the steering column, and some module. I don't want to dump tons of money in it like everyone else just to have the same problem. Chrysler apologized and said there is no recall for my vehicle. I stated it is a known problem and there should be. She then went on to say I should have it towed back to Jeep for another diagnostic. It works when it wants to work and has left me and my 4 yr old stranded. It seems like anytime there's a problem with my Jeep and everyone else's its always during cold winter months. Frustrated and stranded.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2013

This first occurred @ approx. 48k miles. Driving down the road, I accelerate, truck behaved as if it was thrown into neutral. I was able to coast it down the road approx. 1/4 mile and pull off into a parking lot (living in the country, there is no place to safely pull off the road) shut the Jeep off, restart and all is good. Now at 55k miles, the rear pinion seal was leaking like a waterfall, replaced, all of a sudden the truck starts with this feeling as if it were thrown into neutral, both times it kicked back into drive on its own. Now today driving home, it clunked, bucked, all p,r,n,d lights light up at once, then they go out, then they light up, this repeats , I made it home, could not accelerate above 40-45. When is Jeep going to recall these, after someone is killed. Did I mention I have a 4 year old in the truck every day! I cant drive it at this point, I am petrified, I will not put the child in it. I have to borrow a vehicle until we are able to pull it apart and get the part from the dealer I bought the Jeep from 40 miles away! would never ever recommend a Jeep to anyone, ever! I have a friend owns the same Jeep, same year, even the same color, he has almost 200k on his and just replaced it, he could not accelerate over 25 mph. The shame of it is, I love it and I am going to take a huge financial bath on it, even when its repaired, I cant trust it, its not child safe! also seems very convenient Jeep does not transfer warranties! otherwise this would of been covered, the powetrain warranty on these was extended to lifetime, original owner only!.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

Driving down the road the car will not go over 45 mph. The only way to quick fix the problem is to turn the car off then back on then it will run normal. Also the car has stalled out when I was turning down the road and would not go until I put the car in park then put it back in drive.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted however, the failure recurred intermittently over a period of one year. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

Driving down road and engine stalled. Loss of power steering and power brakes. Caused car behind me to slam on brakes to avoid getting hit. Put in neutral and tried to start. Had to switch ignition off before engine would start. Stalls at random without any engine malfunction lamps. Hazard to be driving on road. Problem still unknown and vehicle is out of extended warranty by five thousand miles.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

I was driving down the road, only going around 15 mph, when my p r n d all lit up and I was unable to drive. I stopped and put it in park and tried again and it ran fine. This happened on two other occasions. I was getting ready to leave and put my vehicle in drive and it jerked forward. I'm very disappointed that I have to replace the electronic monitoring system at such a low mileage, the cost for this is close to $400 and that is not pricing labor and not to mention dangerous for this to happen while you are driving.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2012

Esm- electronic shift module issue: p, r, n, d, l all light up simultaneously and the car gets confused as to which gear it should be using. The check engine light has come on. It shifts roughly. Often the car loses power driving down the street, highway and interstate, how is this not a recall??? this is the 4th time this has happen, and this time the check engine light is on. Does someone have to get killed before this is recalled??? ps-your vehicle drop box does not work. ## VIN failed ##.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

The lights in my dash were flashing off and on while driving the vehicle, and the sunroof kept opening and would not close. Also, when a door was opened on the vehicle, while the engine was off and no key was in, the headlights would flash, took to the dealer, they replaced the instrument cluster, problem still persist. While at the dealer they also attempted to repair the n23 recall, at that point I was advised that there were 8 software updates, which the dealer did without charge. After attempted repair of n23 recall, I was advised the 4 wheel drive in my vehicle was not functioning due the recall repair, it has been 2 months and to date Chrysler has been unable to produce a part, the 4 wheel drive actuator, I contacted Chrysler corporation numerous times to no avail, was advised the part is on restriction. It is dangerous!!! especially to think your vehicle is functioning properly and its not. Chrysler has done nothing to help remedy the situation.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2012

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee will suddenly shift into neutral while driving. It has happened at various speeds. When this happens all the shift indicators are highlighted. I have to then pull over, put it in park and then try again. I have had it to the dealership shop 5 times to get this fixed. (over the course of this past year). I have now been told that there is a recall with letters going out last month. When can we expect these? I was told June,, but now it is the middle of July. This is very dangerous and we can no longer drive on the highway and have not been able to for almost a year now.

The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 138,000.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2012

Jeep would not start "transmission temp" would come up on dash. Took to dealer replaced starter. Week later same problem. Went back to Jeep dealer they deemed it to be engine harness. One year later on any given day "transmission temp" will come up on dash with the Jeep sputtering to start. Turn off then start. So far three time since repairs it has done this.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

Jeep looses power, will not accelerate over 30 mph. This has not happen on a highway yet (luckily) only in-town driving. No error codes present in dtc report or from a diagnostic that cost $90. 00 something needs to be done about this before an accident results in a fatality. There seems to me many instances like this on these boards. This is the first investment of a 'real' vehicle that I've had. To pay money for something dependable is the goal. Currently this vehicle is not dependable, let alone safe.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While making a left turn, the vehicle suddenly began to hesitate, shook, and failed to accelerate properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission shift mechanism was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred approximately 1 1/2 years later. The contacted indicated that the transmission shift mechanism was replaced a second time and eventually failed again. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,000.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

My Jeep will periodically not accelerate past 25-40 mph. The rpms only move slightly during an occurrence even if you have it floored and there is no warning lights. The only why to temporarily fix it is to pull over, put it in park and turn it off and on again. I had a very close call and almost got rear-ended getting on the interstate last week when it happened. In the last year its probably happened about fifty times. After looking on this site it is apparent that I'm not the only one with this problem! Jeep needs to make a recall on this very soon.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

While driving on a 5 lane interstate at 4:30 pm, I accelerated to move over into the far left lane and lost all acceleration while doing this. Also, the check engine light came on while this happened. Had to coast across five lanes of interstate into the emergency lane. Stopped the car and put it in park. Waited a minute and put it back in drive and the accelerator magically worked again. The check engine light remained on, drove to an auto parts store to have the code checked. The technician said it was code p0730, gear ratio incorrect.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

While driving on the interstate at 65 mph, the vehicle's engine stalled. I had to put the vehicle in neutral, turn the ignition off an back on to restart it. This first happened just after the 30 day warranty was over, as I bought the vehicle used in may of 2012. Since that time, the vehicle has stalled at highway speeds or when slowing down for a stop on dozens if not hundreds of occasions. The spark plugs, egr valve, ignition coil, pcv valve and map sensor have been changed to no effect. There are no meaningful diagnostic codes stored in the obd-ii system. I feel this condition is very dangerous, as I never know when the vehicle will stall, causing a loss of power steering and brakes, and the ability to accelerate out of harm's way. It is my understanding that many of these same vehicles with the same engine are having similar issues. I can no longer let my wife or teenage son drive the vehicle because of this condition.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and then the speed began to reduce to 20 mph unintendedely. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they stated that the failure was contributed to a faulty electronic shift control module. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there was not a recall related to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000. The VIN was unavailable.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2012

Vehicle stall out at various speeds, or when idling stationary. Comes on without warning. Seems these stalling problems are common with 5. 7 hemi Jeep Grand Cherokees, even according to the dealer. This is a serious safety hazard as power steering and brakes are lost during a stall. An inoperative vehicle in a traffic lane could suffer a rear-end collision from this condition. Please help by ordering a recall from Chrysler company to remedy the problem. Nothing seems to remedy the situation and it keeps occurring.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2012

Was attempting to merge onto a busy freeway and accelerated up to 60mph when the Jeep suddenly slammed into second gear and refused to shift. I couldn't get it to do anything other than "limp" very roughly to the shoulder. If people hadn't slowed down I would have been busted from several points. Took it to the local Jeep dealership and they told me that it happens with Jeep Grand Cherokees all the time and that they recommended replacing the esm but stated that it doesn't always fix the problem and that they've replaced thousands only to have it recur months later. This is going to get someone killed.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving 65 mph when all of the warning lamps illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several moments. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the shift module was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that they would contact her at a later date. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 44,433.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle's acceleration seized. The contact had to shift to neutral then back to drive in order to regain acceleration. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle experienced the same failure approximately ten times. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the shifter failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,200.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2012

I purchased this vehicle on December 14, 2011. About three weeks later in a parking lot, we noticed the vehicle would not accelerate even though the accelerator pedal was pushed virtually all the way down. A few days later the engine warning light came on. Then the lack of acceleration happened on the interstate. My mechanic cleared the engine warning light but it came back on a few days later. I did a lot of research and it appears this is a common problem on Jeep vehicles. The problem is a failure of the electronic shift module. It if very expensive to have replaced. My local dealership charged me $924 plus tax. As many comments as I have seen on this and the fact that lack of acceleration is a safety issue, Jeep should not hesitate in issuing a recall.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated the gear shift module caused the vehicle to lunge forward and backwards. The vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph. There was also a warning light illuminated indicating the gear shift had failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the gear shift module. The manufacturer was notified and informed her to file a complaint but offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 98,300.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

On oct. 5th as I was merging onto the thruway at 55mph the truck just stopped excelerating in rush hour traffic. I put on my flashers and coasted to the shoulder just barely avoiding being rear ended. This was the second time this has happened with this vehicle. You could press the gas pedal and the rpm's would go sky high but the truck would not move while in drive. I turned the truck off, waited several seconds, started the truck and it moved in drive. I immediatly called the dealer and have a oct. 7th service call. This was a near death situation the second time due to the rush hour traffic. This vehicle has trouble shifting when started in the morning. After looking into the matter this appears to be a common problem with this model and make. It appears the electronic shift modules need replacing. After reading the numerous similar complaints I thought I would file a complaint before someone gets killed.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2011

Stalling issues with 5. 7 hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. Vehicle stalls at random but at low speeds and coming to a stop. Happens approximately 3 to 4 times per month (about once a week). Vehicle looses complete power, brakes, steering, etc. Huge safety issue. Only way to restart is to put in neutral or park. No check engine light but stores p0884 code. Dealer can not replicate problem but notices code. Dealer does not have a fix or does not know how to fix. Vehicle has stalled on railroad tracks, 5pm traffic, and worse possible times and could cause serious injury.
