Since safety recall p54 was applied, my vehicle has completely died while driving on 5 separate occasions 1 on 19oct, 2on31oct, and 2on7nov. The vehicle is currently at sam lehman Chrysler Jeep dealership in peoria, IL. They claim that I need new software at my expense to address the vehicle shut downs. Attached transcript is with Chrysler. They do not appear to take this safety issue very seriously.
Vehicle has completely shut down while driving 5 times in the recent past. 1x19 oct; 2x31 oct; 2x7nov. The vehicle completely shuts off while driving. This is very dangerous as all power is lost for breaks, steering, and obviously no acceleration. Chrysler safety recall p54 has been applied prior to these issues. Dealer and Chrysler are charging me customer (at my expense) to flash new software files on the vehicle computers. I sense this is very likely a much broader safety issue and am hoping our government (NHTSA) officials will investigate before someone is injured as a result of this.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the ability to steer and brake seized. The contact had to maneuver to the side of the road. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the power control module shorted all the spark plugs and the software needed to be updated. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Jeep Grand Cherokee started having a slight miss in early July. Then Jeep would not start. Waited 2 minutes then Jeep started. Had Jeep serviced including new spark plugs from Chrysler. Still had miss at idle. Drove Jeep from northern California to southern California. Still had miss. Sitting in heavy traffic Jeep stalled and caused a traffic backup. Waited for a couple of minutes then Jeep started. Took Jeep to the Jeep dealer in Aug. Dealer did software upgrade. Still had rough idle and hard to start. Took Jeep in again. They said to order a tipm. Dealer said it would be at least several weeks to get the part and to park the Jeep due to the stalling out situation. Wrote an email to the Jeep ceo. Jeep responded. The tipm was replaced in early sept. Stalling is gone but the rough idle is now back. This issues could be very dangerous. Considering how Jeeps are used (off road, long trips) one could easily be stranded or worse. Given the number of complaints and the long period of time to get a part it would seem like a recall is in order. It appears that the part is no longer manufactured due to a bankruptcy of the oem. There are thousands of us having this problem and we need help!.
I bought my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, brand new. . . Literally 0 miles on it. Beginning at just shy of 36,000 miles it began to intermittently have cranking and starting issues. Every time I would take it to the service center at the dealership, they could never get the problem to "replicate. " after several diagnostic tests costing $104. 86 each, they found nothing. When the vehicle reached 38,902 miles, and after the problem became more recurrent the dealership had me to replace my key fob battery and update the software in my pcm & wcm. ($170. 00) the problem didn't subside, and I was left to deal with the problem which occurred at most inopportune times, but only intermittently. . . Until yesterday. . Read more...
There were electrical failures leading up to the complete electrical and engine system shutting down while driving. After being to the dealer for serious vibration and countless other issues, including remote start needing complete replacement and tons of software updates and was still not fixed!!!!!!! electrical failures started with key and key fob not funtioning, which caused vehicle to be inoperative. The major safety concern occured when vehicle completely stopped functioning while driving 70 mph on I-75, down the mountains with a trailer on the back. All headlights and electrical system shut down, power steering disabled, brakes locked, engine dead. Hazards wouldn't work and this was a major safety concern when verhicle is stuck in the middle of the road, with no lights and it was after midnight for us. We see another identical complaint here from another Jeep owner. We have an attorney trying to go thru the lemon law, but that may not pan out. It seems like a lot of consumers could/will be at serious risk with this vehicle. Especially for families with children.
