While the vehicle was parked, unoccupied, locked, and the motor was not running, apparently the driver's side seat caught fire. I did not see the actual flames, but I did open the driver door to find the bottom cushion and most of the electrical wiring in the driver seat melted and charred and a thick layer of soot on everything in the vehicle.
The roof on the inside of my 2011 grand Jeep cherokee caught on fire due to a sun visor recall (recall r71) the john hiester dealership in sanford, nc had previously fixed twice. Their special investigator said they weren't going to pay to fix the electrical fire damage because it wasn't related to the recall and wasn't a manufacturer issue. Basically, they implied that I caught my own vehicle on fire & risked my own life & the life of my grandchildren, which is crazy. See details below: on October 23, 2020, I took my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the john hiester Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, ram dealership located on hawkins avenue in sanford, north carolina, to have the sun visor wiring related to safety recall r71 replaced. Per the attached invoice from the dealership, they replaced the right and left sun visor and installed wire guides and grind reliefs. At approximately 6:45 a. M. On December 9, 2020 (not even two months later), from inside of the house, as usual, I used the car key to automatically start my Jeep that was stationary (sitting in my driveway) so that it could warm up. When my grandchildren and I walked outside to get into the Jeep, I noticed a lot of smoke on the inside, so much so, that I couldn't see anything. Upon opening the Jeep door, the entire vehicle was completely filled with smoke. With the doors opened, the smoke finally cleared, and, in horror, I saw that the roof on the inside had been completely burned and paint on the outside of the roof had bubbled from what appeared to be a fire. I immediately connected the incident to the recall that was repaired on October 23, 2020 because the previous night, I'd tried to turn on the visor light to read something and the lights were extremely dim. I messaged the john hiester dealership via online around 7:30 a. M. From there, my Jeep was towed to the dealership, where it still remains unrepaired.

10/10/2015 at approximately 320 pm cdt, I was driving i35 south between duluth mn and minneapolis mn. Smoke started billowing out of the headliner, rh side above the windshield/sun visor. I pilled to the side of the road, pulled the a pillar and pulled down the headliner. Flames were present, I reached in thinking it was a wire (it was) sustained burns on my right hand. Grabbed the owners manual , located the fuse for courtesy lights under the hood, pulled the 15 amp fuse (which had not blown). Removed the sun visor and vanity light, and associated wiring. Fire was extinguished at that point. Removed the visor and wiring, found a burned connector and smoldering wiring. Vehicle was in motion when fire broke out speed 70 mph. Vehicle damage was inspected by duluth Jeep, duluth mn. Duluth Jeep kept the removed parts. Recall #36 was accomplished 11/2014 by duluth Jeep.
I was driving and my eyes started burning then smoke was coming out of the visor. Then there were sparks and small flames from sunroof. It almost caught my hair on fire. I had the recal wiring replaced in July and this happened August 30, after recall completed.
I received notice by mail in December that my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee had a recall (p36 sun visor wiring) and there was a risk of fire due to a wiring issue. I immediately took my car to dadeland Dodge Chrysler Jeep in miami, FL to get the recall fixed. My car was at the dealership for about 24 hours being repaired and the next day I was called to go pick it up because the recall had been done and the car was good as new. Fast forward to Tuesday, April 14th and I am driving and stopped at a red light. My car filled with smoke and I could not breathe in the car. I had no idea where the fire was coming from so I started opening all the windows and noticed there was a fire by the sun visor. All of the electrical functions on the center console and the steering wheel had disabled and I was unable to open the sunroof to let the smoke out. I had to pull over, turn off the car and truly feared for my life because the car had filled with smoke and the sun visor was completely burned. The fire could have burned me had I been on a highway and unable to stop. I think it's incredible that I did my part, took the car to get the recall fixed, and was returned a car that was clearly not fixed. This fire could have severely injured me and I no longer feel safe driving this car. This model car has had several recalls, including one involving the breaks, and to be honest, I just do not feel safe driving it after what happened to me. I simply want back what I paid for this manufacture defected vehicle.

Bought a used Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 w/ 19k miles on it (it was leased before). First incident happened with 30k miles on it. Vehicle would turn over a little bit but would not start. Dealership said fuel pump was bad, running after vehicle turned of then didn't get power when turning it on. Dealership replaced fuel pump, went to pick it up from dealership and it wouldn't start. Second trip (within 2-3 days) to dealership it started up. Worked fine for about 4-5 weeks, then same incident occured again. Vehicle would turn over but not start up, sounded the exact same as the prior issue. Dealership replaced the tipm, car worked fine for about 12 months. Two weeks ago, the same issue came about. Car turning over but not starting. This time the dealership replaced my key fob and it worked for 1 day, then the same issue occured. Now my Jeep is sitting at another dealership and they have replaced the wiring to the fuel pump and now they are in the process of replacing another fuel pump. I heard today that they fuel pump is replaced but still not getting power to it (tipm problem again). Chrysler wants me to pay a deductible for an obviously faulty part that they have replaced again. This last time when I brought my Jeep to the dealer I tried to start the vehicle to let me father hear the noise it was making. A dealership service technician walked by hearing the noise it made and asked, "is it a 2011?", I replied, "yes", he followed up by saying that that model and year has had a reoccuring problem with the tipm, which from what I have read online is extremely dangerous, especially if the car were moving and it went out. You would be left without power steering and brakes. Chrysler has made a product that is faulty and realizes it, yet they still charge customers to replace the faulty parts.
