36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

Car wont start when button pushed and everything in the Jeep has been fixed and it still wont work leaks oil non stop. Work needing to be done: new transmission to stop leak new fuel injection pump to start car (has not) new shifter new battery new dashboard as the screen would flicker car barely has 100k miles on it. Makes no sense.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

It keeps saying service gear shifter.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2022

Fuel pump relay has failed. It is internal and soldered onto the tipm board under the fuse block. This is a well known issue and a cheap fix on 2011 - 2013 models of Jeep Grand Cherokees. The fix was to wire in an external bypass relay. My only option at this point is to replace the tipm board which is quite expensive, hundreds of dollars, for a $8 failed relay. . . . Terrible design. Thankfully I wasnt traveling 70 mph on the expressway when the failure occurred, (stall/lose power). Please extend this recall thru the 2015 models.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2022

First issue is that I had to replace the uconnect system this year. It had been on the fritz for some time and updates could not be made to the old system. It would constantly go black. Second issue 2017-$30,000 miles is that the replaced steering rack and pinion and align 600 suspension and chassis 4778. Replaced the leaking rack and pinion and passenger front caliper due to sticking bleeder valve 300 bakes. 11/2017 evaporative system seal canister. 2018 power brake booster/vacuum leak and braking issue. Replaced radio. $1200 ish. Drove car 2/21 50,221 - 10/2022 53,000. October 2022 daughter driving car, gear slipping and engine light comes on and pulls over car not shifting at all into gear. Towed to Jeep where needs new transmission plus at 53,000 miles!!! $15,00 plus quoted at Jeep.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2022

While driving vehicle it doesn't matter if it is highway speeds or street speeds , transmission shifts into neutral and makes car stall. Almost got into at least 4 accidents because of the issue , glad drivers behind me were paying attention and quickly avoid the accident. I have to wait at least ten minutes before car will start again, during those ten minutes car will try to start but without luck. No check engine light , been to at least 5 different shops and no one can say what is wrong because check engine light is not on. And issue happens randomly and technicians haven't been able to replicate issue. It is a safety hazard. I know Jeep cherokee have a recall for something similar. But it doesn't apply to mine since mine is a Grand Cherokee. Model before mine 2011 to 2013 have a recall for a similar issue but it doesn't apply to mine because mine is a 2014.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2022

Computer system on dash started flashing & going out while driving telling me to turn engine off engage in park is disabled . Would let me shift gears making loud noise in engine.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2022

Driving 20-25 mph, stopped at a stop sign. Accelerated , then all instrument panel lights started flashing ,then went out of gear. I let off accelerator , then re-accelerated. Got the car home, a short distance. Was not able to put SUV into park. Engaged parking brake. Hours later started car up and was able to place into park mode. Engine light stays on now.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2022

Driving down the road in the middle of the night- the entire dash went black and only warning lights blinking across. Several error messages appeared and went black again.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2022

I was driving my car this afternoon when the car automatically slipped into neutral, thankfully I had just gotten off the main road and was on a gravel road. The car literally came to a halt, stopped, I could not restart, and the steering wouldn't move. I was able to get the car towed to a local garage, who said the issue was more than likely the fuse box, they will not touch it as they believed there may be a recall for the fuse box. I have searched for recalls via my VIN, and I do not see a recall for my specific car for this issue, but do see that this has been an issue. How are recalls identified? I have a call into a Jeep dealership and I am hoping to get an appointment tomorrow and get the car towed once more. This truly was a safety issue as if I was on the highway that I had just left I would have been driving at 55mph. I do not have an estimate as I am working to secure an appointment with the dealership.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2022

This has happened three (3) times to me. The instrument cluster on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee just blackouts and the windshield wipers go on, then multiple cluster warning lights illumination and a loss of anti-lock brake system (abs) / electronic stability control system function stops. The vehicle slows down because of loss of power. A loss of instrument cluster illumination and/or loss of abs function while driving could cause a crash.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2022

I noticed things like the cluster going completely black at random and it would last for seconds before re-illuminating; it happens while driving. I took in my vehicle to the dealership on June 28, 2022, two days prior, I noticed that my doors were unlocking while I was inside my workplace, the alarm was going off another day and I noticed shifting issues with the transmission. On June 27, 2022 I was forced to buy a brand new battery because the Jeep was running in power saving mode, instead of taking a risk with a low battery, I bought a new one and thought everything was good, but it continued to run in power saving mode; I received two cel codes, both correlating to the transmission control module (tcm). Later that evening my son informed me that the cluster light was still on, the Jeep had been parked for several hours so there was no reason for the light to still be on (wake mode?). Also, I notated the codes I received before I had to have the Jeep towed to the dealership on Jun 28th to compare to what the service dept came up with; however on Jun 28th I attempted to jump the battery to take it to the service center but it wouldn’t jump or charge; what happened was, just before the cluster went haywire, the wipers were moving across the windshield while it was in an off position, the uconnect was glitching out then went black, cluster warned to service the electronic abs and the shifter, the fuse box was vibrating and shuddering very loudly, a hissing noise was coming from the back of the vehicle (could be the fuel pump? like compressed air) so by Monday morning, the 27th the battery had completely died and by the time it got to the dealership on tues, I had to use the battery warranty to replace the battery so that the service department could then diagnose the Jeep. Fine, the battery was replaced Jun 30th with a brand new one, but by fri Jun 8th I was told I need another brand new battery. All the issues had had a prior recall and seem to be reoccurring.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

March, 2022 - replaced battery, vehicle died and wouldn't turn on. May, 2022 - washing vehicle, electrical dash clusters, where gas and speed gauge is, and music screen in the center, horn, and start button started going haywire. We were still able to drive home, however, while driving all electrical went black. We were not able to tell the speed we were going, use blinkers or hazard lights. Once we got home, the start engine button wouldn't turn off the engine, was flickering on and off. We ended up pulling a fuse that turned off the engine. May, 2022 - a mechanic diagnosed bcm has severe corrosion inside circuitry. June, 2022 - took to Dodge to get replaced. October, 2022 - bcm was replaced. February, 2023 - check engine code to replace thermostat. Thermostat was replaced. February, 2023 - washed Jeep, back wiper blade started going off while vehicle was turned off. Later that night while driving, dash clusters, music screen, lights, wiper blades, blinkers, started going haywire. We got home, turned the vehicle off, and it wouldn't turn back on. Then, got it towed to Dodge dealership to check bcm. February, 2023 - may, 2023 - Dodge dealership diagnosed that the front windshield had a leak and the battery needed to be replaced, wasn't holding charge. Had them replace a new battery in may. Technician also stated that he could tell there was water intrusion in the connector to the bcm. May 17, 2023 - took the vehicle to windshield place to get repaired, they poured water on the windshield and wasn't able to find the leak. The vehicle died at the shop then, had the original mechanic run another diagnostic on the vehicle and conclusions that there was a water leak in the front windshield, causing the 59 pin electrical connector to corrode. The parts for the connector are $10,000. 00.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2022

The shifter system (monostable shifter/ electronic shift module) malfunctioned 4 times so far. It has been to the dealer 3 times and the following has been replaced: the electronic shift module, the shift head/knob, the electronic shift module again, and finally the wiring itself, and now 10 miles after picking up my car that was being serviced since Monday (it is Friday now), I have the same issue and it makes my car stuck in first or second gear, I cannot shift into park or out of drive unless I shut the engine off, it puts my car into limp mode and won't let me accelerate or else the car jerks, my infotainment screen intermittently shuts off, and I get the following warning lights and messages: check engine light, braking system light, tpms light, traction control light, "service electronic braking system" message, "service shifter" message with obd code u1467, "service power steering" message, "service transmission- continue in d. Do not shift or turn engine off" message. The prnd lights on the shift knob also flash. This is very dangerous as my car cannot be shifted out of drive (into park), the car won't accelerate or move above whatever speed 1st gear or 2nd gear will allow me to, the car physically jerks forward, and whatever systems like power steering, braking, etc. That may be affected based on the warning lights. I only get the diagnostic code u1467 which is for the shifter, though.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2022

Vehicle lost braking ability intermittently. Had to drive off the road to stop the vehicle without hitting something. Brake light came on the dash but then went off and brakes worked as normal. This has happened several times now. All randomly.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2022

Bought this vehicle 6 months ago and and realized right after purchase it has an error within the radio system that causes backup issues. The error appears on the radio and states “contact dealer” for radio service. What the vehicle does is that the backup camera becomes inoperable (black screen) and in my case the radio turns on straight heat blowing hot air from the system and turning on both defrosters, front and back. After doing some research, it appears that many 2014 Jeep owners and other years around this time period are experiencing this issue. Since the backup camera and backup sensors no longer work due to this error (it has to do with the sierra wireless card within the radio) it becomes a safely issue when it stops in the middle of backing up and is very scary. In texas, having straight heat blown at you and your glass makes the windows fog or becomes unbearable at 105 degree temperatures. Dealer is aware of the issue and wants more then $1200 to replace radio. I tried to self repair by removing radio and updating software to current version but sierra wireless car is soldiered to the motherboard of the radio and cannot be removed. I did however get the software to update after three attempts and 6 hours of updating. This did not fix the error that causes this. I believe it is due to a sierra wireless card failure and normally happens right after startup.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2022

Emergency brake engages while driving.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2022

I just bought my car from a local dealership about 3-4 weeks ago. Upon receiving it I found no issues. A couple days later, every time I would go to push start my car, it would lag and take about 5-10 seconds to actually turn over and start. It doesn't do it every single time but about every other time. It has been in and out of my local Jeep dealership since I have received it and they cannot figure out the issue what's so ever. If we cannot get it figured out soon, I will be returning the car!.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2022

Service shifter transfer case radio malfunction gear shifter shifter got stuck in park I had to forcefully pull the shifter to get it to go into drive. Monday Feb 14, 2022 approximately around 9:00pm I drove my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the gas station. I pull up at the gas pumps and pit the shifter to park, I exit the vechile and lock the doors, go inside the store to pay for my purchase and as im walking out I look and my Jeep was gone. So I look around and I see it across the highway in a ditch. So I take off running to my vechile and get in the vechile to try and reverse it but its automactilly goes right back into park. So I get out and look at the damage because there is a guard rail cables. My car has front end damage because it was stuck under the cables. Made a police report. I called the dealership where I am leasing the vechile from and they do not wanna help me. I've had nothing put problems with this vechile since I got it. This really needs to be looked into. What if my babies were in the car. Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic at that time. Becauae its a busy highway. I also have video footage of the incident from that night.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2021

Wont start, with good battery.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2021

Vehicle randomly stalls and fails to restart or will not crank/start at random times.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2021

Tuesday November 18 2021 during driving on freeway around 3 pm,dashboard suddenly turned off,all information on cluster disappeared and vehicle seems to stalled for a few seconds, after everything came back to normal. It repeated three times in next 10 minutes of driving. Next day November 19 2021 vehicle stalled during driving on parking lot. There is no check engine light or any other messages on dashboard. Tried to start it with no luck. Starter is spinning, but engine is not firing. Vehicle has new batterie. Last month I finally got vehicle from local Chrysler authorized dealer repair shop vehicle been there for repair work since July 8 2021 for exact same problem. Vehicle stalled on highway at speed 35 mph,and after been towed for repair to motorworld Dodge Chrysler in wilkes-barre, pennsylvania. After 2. 5 month of repair, I was told( and it shown in paper work),that vehicle had all fuel pumps replaced, new fuel lines, new fuel rails, new jets, filters etc. Been installed. After repair I did not even make 1000 miles. I would like to investigate this situation, because it has safety issues tried to talk about it with service manager at dealership but looks like they are not interested to do it,and don't really want to take responsibility for performed work.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idled in a parking lot, the alternator was overheating and there was smoke coming from under the hood while the engine was revving. The vehicle then stalled and the contact could not restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). The mechanic replaced the alternator, battery, serpentine belt, and cabin filter. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer per the manufacturer's request. The dealer performed an inspection and informed the contact that all of the repairs performed by the independent mechanic were per the dealer's specifications. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and three cases were opened. The manufacturer informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and submit all necessary documents and receipts for reimbursement. The manufacturer later denied the contact's request for reimbursement due to the vehicle being out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2021

A complete loss of all electrical and engine power simultaneously, on the freeway during a rainstorm without any warning. All systems including power steering, tail lights, door locks, a completely dark instrument panel, engine stopped running. I feared for my life, it’s very scary, it happened with no warning on a freeway during a rain storm!.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2021

I was driving to and my car began shaking and would not let me go over 10 miles per hour. I was towed in to the dealership and was told that my pcm and tcm wasn't functional.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2021

Shifter service, power steering yes available for inspection. Power steering went out, lights on dash board flashed and beeped and then would go black. Jeep diagnosed my Jeep. No warning and happened about 2 weeks ago and has continued consistanly.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated when he started the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to illuminate. The contact stated on a different occasion, while driving 30 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking and air condition became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the fuse box under the hood needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage 80,000.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2021

I was driving on a busy street in san marcos. When my dash board lit up and all the sudden the electronics stop working to include my speedometer.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2021

Vehicle is downshifting automatically. Burning smell, squeaking/ whistling sound coming from under the hood. Smoking from under the hood tone to time. Car stalling on take off.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2021

My vehicle was in park and unable to start, all of the lights and indicators worked as expected but it the message on the dashboard said to continue in drive. I was unable to start the vehicle or unlock the doors. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and they said that I need to replace the automatic transmission control module. This is the same component that has failed in countless Jeep Grand Cherokees yet there has not been a recall for my specific model.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2021

I was driving my 2014 Grand Cherokee probably going 25mph the first time it happened. My Jeeps dash started blinking and popping up warning signs and then all of a sudden the Jeep comes to a fast stop and the engine completely killed. Everything locked up. My brakes, my shifter, my gas pedal everything locked, no screens were turning on and it wouldnt let me turn the Jeep back on for a couple minutes. When I turned it back on it was fine. A couple days later it did it again and again but I was going 40mph. Dropped off at the dealer told them to keep it till they found the problem. It was there 2 weeks didnt do it again. Hasnt done it since but im still afraid its going to happen again but ill be on the highway.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2021

Emergency light stating "service electronic throttle control " that caused engine light to come on. These electronic warnings cause vehicle to go limp and unable to drive or move causing severe danger on the road when vehicle just shuts down. It is a software issue and requires software flush and update, this issue is so common, dealership knew what I was going to say before I even said it. Recall needed to prevent a wreck and fix before issue shuts down vehicle, and should be recalled to prevent owner's financial repair for a software glitch needing updated by car maker.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

Fuel pump failed. Electric control module/system failed. I have been having these problems since 2021. When it first started my car stalled out, completely died, and started rolling (even though I was pressing the brakes) - I had to pull my e brake and luckily stopped an inch away from hitting the car in front of me coming to a stop because the light turned red. My entire car shut down. I had to get a tow. I took it in to a shop and they had no idea really what happened or what it was. They told me a bunch of stuff was bad (thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff) and I ended up only getting whatever was absolutely necessary which was the fuel pump and battery. $1300 later it was driving at least. Ever since then my gas gauge has never been accurate and just goes up and down randomly. I have to track my gas by resetting the miles of my “total trip” when I fill up. My dashboard constantly went on and off and I never knew what was accurate and what wasn’t. About 6 months ago my dashboard went completely black and hasn’t came on since. My car is now barley taking over 4 gallons of gas at a time before the auto stop on the pump cuts off. If I try refilling anyways gas overflows. This makes absolutely no sense. I can’t see how fast im going, hear my blinkers go on and off, see how much gas I have, how many miles are on my car, any check engine lights, and now I can’t drive over 75 miles without having to “fill up” my measly 4 gallons again before the pump shuts off. I was never notified of any recalls but there is absolutely no way my car is excluded from them. The electronic control module is fried, I can’t even get gas, and a brand new battery and fuel pump was clearly just a miniature band aid on this disaster chain of problems. I’ve only had this Jeep for like 5 years too and what it’s worth is not even worth a fourth of the cost it would be to fix all of this.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

The vehicle reported a low battery followed by numerous other warnings in sequence and then within a few seconds stalled and would not restart. Upon taking the vehicle to the garage, the alternator (and consequently battery) needed to be replaced. Reading other Jeep Grand Cherokee recalls, to me the indecent sounds exactly like the NHTSA campaign 14v634000 - where ''the alternator fails and the vehicle may stall'. (manufacturer campaign number: t36).

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the rear license plate light failed to illuminate the license plate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic informed the contact that the wiring harness had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that when the vehicle was turned off, the electrical settings reverted to the default setting. After restarting the vehicle, the settings failed to switch back to the preferred settings. Additionally, the rear hatch failed to stay in the upwards position. The contact stated that while attempting to raise the hatchback to the upward position, the hatch would slam down instead. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
