I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee that just will not start. Not a battery problem. Started with windshield wiper problems where the wipers just stayed erect and only worked on high. This happened two times 10/1/2010 and 12/26/2010. Always started working again before I could see dealer. Always happened when either rain or snow was present causing a danger of collision. On Monday 2/28/2011 it just would not start. Interior light lit, could not shift into neutral or any other gear. Could not not get any help or even a call back from dealer, and two corporate managers never returned my call as they promised. When I finally spoke to coporate, both corporate managers were rude and condesending, dealers all going out of business locally in NJ but no will confirm that. Lots are empty. I found service in another county. He fixed it. He claims it was a wire control module and my key fobs also needed to be reprogramed. These are identical problems to other comlaints filed. Simalar complaints all over the internet. I know three other people how had a simalar experience. One has a 2008 Jeep liberty.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had continuous electrical problems with engine light coming on and stalling since it had about 9000 miles on it and was bought new. Dealership has looked at it several times and could not every find anything wrong with it and usually clears out failure and problems occur shortly after again. After the vehicle stranded me a week ago and once again the service department found nothing wrong-replaced the battery, the vehicle is stalling more than ever and almost had a serious accident that could have been fatal because the power went out driving on the interstate with power steering gone and came close to getting hit by a tractor trailer. Was able to throw into neutral and restart, but this is not a safe condition. The area on interstate was in a construction zone and it seems the problem typically occurs when decelerating below 30 mph.
Noticed a decrease in gas mileage and check engine light on. About 1 month after radio would pop loudly gauges on dash would act erratically, digital mileage screen would flicker, vehicle stalls while driving or sitting at a stand still and then restart on its own. While driving and it stalls you loose steering, antilock brakes. Car returns to normal idle and symbols stay lit on dash, (brake, airbag, check engine light, etc) brought to dealership code po123 so replaced the throttle/pedal position sensor switch a. Dealership said that would resolve the stall. 2 days after repair vehicle stalled, instruments were erratically going from 0-100 mph 0 rpms-? no antilock brakes, steering, etc. Whole vehicle looses power. Brought to dealership with all instrument lights lit on panel and no diagnostic codes would populate. After this happens and the car is shut off the next restart has a sluggish restart. Battery was checked multiple times and is good. Occurrence is about 8 times a weekly intermittently. The consequences is it happens with no warning, puts driver in dangerous situation due to stalling when ever it decides to and loss of control of the vehicle. Also on posted forums this is discussed heavily and nobody seems to know how to fix this very unsafe and potential deadly fault with Jeeps. They recommend to replace the pcm but I have been told this is a 50% effective resolution and dealerships I called have stated this issue is well known and none of them have been able to find the cause.

As I drive my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee( hemi)the vehicle simply shuts off. All the lights on the dashboard turn on then the car turns off. I end up with no control. Sometimes this happens and then the vehicle turns on all by itself while im driving. About a week after I purchased it, I had this problem but the dealer said it was fine. As I took it to the gas station across the street, it happened. The dealership employees witnessed it and were nice enough to run over and pushed the vehicle back to the shop. They said they couldn't find anything but replaced the battery just in case. Since then it happens at once every two months. Currently, I have an airbag issue. The dealer cannot seem to repair any of these issues. The airbag lights turn on indicated the airbags are off because it does not sense anyone on the seats. It has been to the dealership 3 times for this issue and I am waiting for a call back to return it so they can install an ecm. They think it may be the issue. This will be the fourth visit for the airbags. Seems the vehicle has a lot of electrical problems. I have not driven the vehicle since December 22nd. It is now Feb 25. I am afraid of going over the warranty miles.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph with the air conditioner in operation when it suddenly failed along with the entire instrument panel. The contact shut off the engine and when restarted, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was shut off a second time. The failure occurred three times. The control module and battery were previously replaced by the dealer. The VIN was unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 52,000.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. My right front directional stays on all the time. Even when key is off. I took the bulbs out so battery would not go dead. I am driving without the front right directional. Called dealer, they tell me the front control module is out of warranty, and if I buy one from ebay at $50 it may not work and has to be programmed at dealer. They are going to give me a discount price to repair of $603. I told them to order the part over a week ago, and today they told me it is on back order and they will call me when it comes in. Is this a common problem, and if so shouldn't they have a part some where to repair it? thank you for your help.
Multiple. Purchased vehicle brand new with less than 9 miles. Vehicle has required over $6,000 in repairs ranging from power window motors, electrical issues, brakes on many occasions, fuel system problems, and problems with shock absorber durability. Vehicle is 5 years old with less than 80,000 miles.
I bought the Jeep cherokee laredo in June 2005 and I have experienced several events with the instrument panel lighting system and gauges. The panel goes on and off until the engine and / or air conditions shut off. At one point the battery needed to be replaced. It has been very stressful having this condition occurring while driving or at a traffic light. Both dealer and Chrysler have improvised some repairs (6 times) that had not resolved the problem. I have decided to file legal action against the dealer and Chrysler after seeing in the NHTSA complaint database that this is a widespread and systemic problem with this model. If you want to join the effort to pursue actions using the "lemon" or any applicable law request a complaint research of this complaint record to have access to my phone and e-mail address. Having a joint effort will result in louder and more effective results to defend our rights as consumers.
Since 2007 the Jeep has stalled without warning and there has been trouble with interior lighting. Recently a aaa emergency repair truck changed the battery and suggested new battery clamps. A visit to an auto repair store revealed that the clamps on the car were the wrong size. When the auto store worker replaced the clamp with the correct size the lighting system started to work. It has been several weeks and there has been no stalling. I think the clamps were the original ones on the vehicle.

: the contact stated while changing the gear from drive to reverse there was a clicking noise. This occurred intermittently. While attempting to apply pressure to the accelerator pedal the engine made a roaring noise and the vehicle failed to pick up speed. The dealership rebuilt the transmission, however no other repairs have been made. The manufacturer has been alerted. Updated 6/27/2006 - the vehicle battery would not hold a charge. The headliner had to be replaced because it was unraveling. . The sunroof motor had to be replaced. The transmission was rebuilt on 2-27-06 with on 90000 miles. The memory seat did not move back at times when the key was removed from the ignition. The tire pressure monitoring system was inoperative. The power steering pump was binding and had to be replaced. The air bag light illuminated on the dash. The rear windshield wipers were not flush with the windshield.
Vehicle parked for the night at 11pm 5/20/06. This morning at 6am while leaving for work an engine fire was noticed. Contacted 911 and they sent fire fighters to put the fire out. Currently unable to open to hood because the latch is melted. Had no recent signs of vehicle problems. Fire looked to be mainly on drivers side. Replaced parts in past such as tires, lights, brakes (6 times), transmission (Jan 2006), differential, rotors, calipers, battery (3 times) and accessories. Don't know if the engine is repairable at this time.

I have been experiencing a problem with my battery not staying charged. The first occurred when I had let the car set for about 2 days, it would not start. The battery would not jump. I had to buy a new battery. The battery post always get corrosion on it. I have had it cleaned and changed a couple of times, and it still gets corrosion on it in 2 days. I was told about two years ago that it could be the wires that run from one of the post to the engine. This time, my new battery only lasted about 3 months. Same problem. The dealer told me that I would have to buy a new battery. It appears that something is draining my battery, but no one can find out what. I had to get a new battery, but I am afraid that it will get drained also.

My 2002 jigs special edition w/ v8 4x4 has an unidentified electric problem. 3 times so far in 2005 when trying to start the Jeep the system goes completely dark. No electricity at all. It won't start, the lights won't work, the remote won't work. You can't even jump start it. The first time the dealer replaced the battery (even though I replaced it 8 months prior). The second time it started when the tow truck driver went to check the miles, so the dealer said there was no way for them to figure it out. Last night it happened again, again it has been towed to the dealer and I am waiting for results.

The cooling fan blade just broke while stopped at a light. It made the car thump I thought someone hit us but the fan blades broke the fan shrode and put dents all in the radiator and broke the fan guard. This vechile has had many of the same problems due to the electrical system. We lease the Jeep and have put $$$ in it because they would not take it back as a lemon with in the 2 years. I still hear a beep coming from under the dash that Jeep never found the problem or fixed it. I just had the fan relay changed because it went out. With in the first 2 years I had it in the shop for a variety of electrical problems I have all the paper work. I am afraid the Jeep will catch on fire or cause an accident. I've also checked many other things that were issues with the Jeep. Leaking shocks and transmission pan and emissions is now leaking. The check engine light stays on and every time I get it checked it's a different problem. I'm out of my warranty now but there have been so many different things wrong. The dealer replaced 2 of 4 leaking shocks they left the transmission pan loose when they replaced a part in the transmission. This Jeep is unsafe for the road it has lost power in the past while traveling so they replaced the battery twice with in a month.
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. In early December I was driving the vehicle when my engine light illuminated. I immediately called my mechanic, who happens to work for midas. He told me to bring it in right away. Because I live closer to midas than any Jeep dealer, and because of the service I have received in the past from Jeep/Chrysler, I took it to my mechanic. He advised me I had a blown head gasket. I received an estimate from him and he also advised me that the dealership would be considerably more expensive, I allowed him to repair the vehicle. After the repairs were complete, I talked to my mechanic and he advised me to contact Chrysler/Jeep and ask for reimbursement. Here in lies the complaint. When I contacted the dealership, bob dance Jeep in oralndo, I was told there was nothing they could do to help because it was my fault I drove the vehicle "hot". I explained the reasons I took it to my mechanic as opposed to the dealer and I was told so sorry. I then try to contact the warranty people for the vehicle. I was told I only had a 3year 36,000 mile warranty and that I wasn't able to do anything about it. The vehicle had 49,000 miles at the time of repair. I asked if I would be allowed to purchase an extended warranty and was rudely told no. This is only one example of the customer service I have received since purchasing this vehicle in July 2000. I have also replaced the transmission, two bateries, repaired the window which did not work and had the rotors cut three time. When I spoke to Chrysler headquarters, I was not surprised to receive the same response. I was told because the work was done by an independent garage, midas, I was not entitled to any type of reimbursement, period. I don"t trust Jeep/Chrysler. I don't want them working on my vehicle. Someone please help me!!.
The transmission did not shift and accelerate properly, the dealer could not duplicate the problem. The abs light illuminated on the dashboard, after the vehicle was turned off, all the gauges illuminated, the parking brake was adjusted, and the battery was replaced.
1999 defective Chrysler grand Jeep cherokee. ** answer required***. The consumer experienced repeated problems with the rotors, pads and calipers. The consumer has experienced hard vibration not only in the front end of the vehicle, but the steering wheel, floor, seat and instrument panel. The vibration was so severe the consumer would lose control of the steering wheel. The rotors would heat up, the caliper froze. The intermediate shaft was replaced, the rear latch was lubricated due to squeaking. The battery was replaced because the consumer had a hard time starting the vehicle.

Dead battery from overnight flickering of lights. Difficulty with lowering/raising right front passenger window, appears to have no power. Left headlamp appears to be burned out, when ride over bump it goes on. Lights/headlights on dashboard flicker on/off while car is in garage parked. When driving and lights flicker on/off, it appears to get a surge of power and car surges forward. Have taken to dealer and they cannot find anything wrong with it.
Vehicle was purchased with approximately 34,000 miles on it. When consumer turns ignition key to on position, guages in the vehicle do not register or activate. When consumer attempts to start vehicle, engine will crank on/- backfire, and then shutdown. Consumer has taken vehicle to a dealership, and had battery replaced twice.
