Ignition won't release key.
Stopped at roadside stand. Tried to restart, no dashboard lights, no ignition all windows down inoperable, towed to Jeep dealer. It is a faulty wireless ignition code. The receiver in the system that checks for the correct key fob. This has the potential to put the occupants in a dangerous situation. It seems this is a nationwide problem, because the part may be in re-engineering and won't be available for 1- 2 months! one aftermarket supplier told me there are 300 of these parts on back order. Sound like a recall to me.

While driving on the interstate the engine abruptly quit. Tachometer reading went to 0 and vehicle started to slow down. No power steering or power brakes after engine quit, but still managed to maneuver to the shoulder and stop the vehicle. Turned the ignition key off then immediately restarted the vehicle. Vehicle ran normally for rest of the trip.
I filed a compliant eailer about my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The cd number is 10374691. I will like to update that compliant. I have had the ignition replaced, the computer replaced and they did not fix the problems that I incurred in my previous compliant. The dashboard warning lights all came on again last night as I was driving down the road. This is a serious problem and the dealer has no idea how to fix this problem.

After 11/2 hours highway driving. Approaching stop light that was red. Decelerated, brakes. Light turned green when vehicle was at approx 30 mph. Updated 01/24/11 the consumer stated the fuse circuit box cover which labeled and diagramed the location of the fuse for the related electrical system had the wrong cover on it. I purchased a 2007 used Jeep Grand Cherokee from kelly Jeep on 3/11/2010, with an odometer reading of 24,758 miles. This vehicle has stalled randomly seven (7) times since the date of purchase. It has been returned to the dealers service department three times and each time they have not been able to duplicate the cause of the stalling. The stalling occurs after a stop and then attempts to proceed into a turn at low speed. It occurs more frequently when a right turn is being made. The engine stops and all electric energy are lost, just as though the ignition was turned off. Braking assist and power steering are lost. I have provided the dealer a document listing and observation of each of the seven events. Several have places me in a comprising position and if traffic had been heavy could have resulted in a serious accident. The vehicle always is able to restart after it stopped, the ignition turned off and placed in park.
Key won't turn in ignition, steering wheel locked, car won't shift out of park. This is the first time I've had this issue. Car had to be towed to auto repair shop.

I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. On Friday 2/11/09 I had to call aaa auto service. The ignition on the car locked up. The auto mechanic. That they sent out got out of the truck with a rubber hammer and walked over to my car and hit the ignition a couple of times and it came unlock. He said that they get a couple of calls a week about this problem. I took it to a dealer and they told me they had to replace the ignition in cars 3 or 4 times a month. I called Chrysler and tried to tell them about the problem and they were no help. So I'm reporting the problem to you to try to get some help. The consumer stated he filed a complaint in December 2009 and would like to know if the problem was investigated, and if so what was the outcome. ? updated 03/23/10.

1) first, the car cranks (ignition) slowly and then stopped cranking. 2) after ignition is turned off or car stalled, car doesn't start any more. Need to wait for about 15 to 30 min. Before car starts again. First intermittent, now almost every time. The consequence is that we blocked railway crossings, driveways, intersections and so on. This is a serious safety concern !
3) - on 8/14/09, the battery was diagnosed to be bad. Replaced, didn't fix the problem. ($200) - on 8/18/09, the car was in the shop again, but maintenance guy couldn't find anything since it was intermittent. ($0) - on 9/1/09, the car was in the shop again. This time some warning lights came on. (trans temp, check gauges) this time they found that (possible) transmission temperature range sensor would not allow startup. Transmission service was recommended and performed but didn't fix the problem. ($385) - later in October, the car was in the shop again. For 2 weeks without success. Dealer mentioned that he was only able to reconstruct the failure once. Daily testing didn't show the problem any more. Car was picked up on 10/26/09. Since that time, the car is having the problem more than 50% of the time. Seems that the car need to be driven at least several miles until the problem shows up. - on 10/31/09, car will go to shop again.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2wd, 4. 0 liter inline 6, automatic transmission. User has replaced many engine electrical and ignition parts, as well as fuel pump assembly, some relays, and the Jeep continues to stall in traffic, when turning corners, when backing up, has intermittent stalling when driving, and is posting various computer codes. I have already spent $700 on diagnostic and parts replacement, yet the problem persists. When driving the engine periodically cuts out and rpm's drop to zero. If this happens in heavy traffic or during an evasive maneuver someone could be killed. This is an ongoing and dangerous problem that my mechanic can not fix, and based on my research on the internet it is a widespread and perplexing design-related problem with this era Jeep cherokees and grands.
Was driving on the highway. At about 65mph, the engine started revving from 3500 rpm all the way to 6000 rpm, but the speed didn't increase at all. Took the car to the shop and the mechanic said they ran a full diagnostics check and found nothing wrong with the cherokee. So I drove the Jeep for another month until it died on one early morning. I went to start the Jeep just like every morning, but this time the engine won't even turn or make a sound. The gauges indicators went beserks and bottomed out at the max. It looks like an electrical problem. I have yet to find out what exactly is wrong with the Jeep when I take it in to the dealer today.
The ignition cylinder failed and the key will not turn in the ignition, therefore stranding the driver and passengers.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. Upon restart, the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The failure occurred again and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. Once again, the dealer could not diagnose the cause for the failure. The contact noticed that the vehicle stalled whenever contact was made with the key while it was in the ignition. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was advised to remove the key chains from her key. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000 and the current mileage was approximately 24,000.
: the contact stated while driving various speeds, when the key in the ignition was gently pressed, the ignition shuts off without warning. The engine was easily restarted. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined this was a design flaw. The manufacturer was not alerted.
: the contact stated while driving between 25-30mph, the key was slightly tapped, the ignition turned off, causing the contact to hit a tree. There were no injuries sustained in the accident. This problem has occurred on two separate occasions. The dealership and manufacturer were alerted and determined there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The police were alerted and a report was filed at the scene.
Was driving on interstate 70 mph, light lit up, I couldn't accelerate, my car immediately slowed down, I barely managed to coast over to the side of road while dodging traffic. Immediately put the car in park, shut the car off, turned car back on, put into drive, wouldn't budge. Made the noise as if I was in neutral while pressing on accelerator. I shut the car off, pulled out the manual, read I could experience loss of power, not to drive the car, report immediately to be repaired. I called the 24 towing number, had the Jeep towed to the dealership. When I received call from the dealership on April 10, I was told this issue was related to the recall problem that I had repaired in February. After further conversation on Tuesday with the service department at the dealership I was given explanation that when I brought the vehicle in for the recall in February 2006, there was already damage done to the vehicle, they had to flush the engine. The power outage I experienced on the interstate was related to the recall, and in addition, they had to flush my engine again and replace a valve in the transmission. When I expressed that I wasn't comfortable driving the vehicle which such safety issues, the service man also agreed it was a safety factor. I was on the phone with Chrysler yesterday, and was told that once this problem occurs a 3rd time, I can then go to arbitration, and take the next step, but that step wasn't clear. After expressing my desire to get out of my lease because of the safety concerns, I was told they couldn't do that. The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo is my 3rd Jeep I have driven, no prior vehicle has had problems. At this point, I am supposed to go and pick up my vehicle even though I am not comfortable driving it, in the hopes the next time my power shuts down, I am alive to tell about it. And when that day comes, Chrysler can then take the next step in pursuing further action.
Grand cherokee shut off by itself (lost power steering and brakes). Car started right back up. This happened on a major highway around a sharp curve and could have resulted in a car accident with injuries or even death. Brought the car to a dealer and they said they could not replicate the problem and sometimes the internal computer needs to be rebooted. I bought the car because of all the safety features. I will probably trade this car in. It's not worth my well-being.
Rented 2006 Jeep cherokee at airport. During two stops at intersections I reached to switch radio stations and accidentally and lightly brushed the keys in the ignition. They switched to "acc" and the vehicle turned off. When I say "lightly brushed" I mean just that. I wasn't even aware of what had happened until the second incident. Two things appear defective: the placement of the ignition and the fact that just a light touch turns the key off. Had I done that while driving, the car would have immediately been inoperable and a dangerous situation would have occurred.
Complaint regarding the position of the ignition system on the 2005 Jeep laredo. The consumer stated he inadvertently turned the ignition off with his knee.
