1 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/13/2021

Left head cyclinder in engine cracked with coolant leaking to engine. 2011-2013 were extended on warranty for this but not the 2014 yet. To fix the 1 issue apparently requires replacing several other parts resulting in a astronomical bill. When got back from getting checked out the engine now makes a ticking sound. Also gear shift issues where the car will say in desired gear and won't go into park and stall out. The second was a recall but my VIN was not included. Gear shift issue happens at random and has left me in the middle of the street.

4 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

My car had an oil leak and the mechanic had to replace the oil cooler. He said the part is a dangerous design with plastic, metal and aluminum parts. The plastic melts in the seals causing the leak. This could be a fire hazard bc of the coolant and oil mixing together as they cross over boundaries they should not. Also it could cause the engine to be completely ruined. The mechanic I used said he has replaced a lot of these all in Chrysler's and Jeeps so it is clearly a hazardous design flaw. This has been an ongoing problem and I filed a case with Chrysler #71764143. The mechanic telling me my engine could be ruined made my decision to get the repair more urgent.

6 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

With only 50,800 miles check engine light produced several codes. I took this vehicle to 3 different places for a diagnostic test. They said it was power steering / a/c coolant leaking. With the 2nd diagnoses they found a leak with the auxiliary cooler (transmission fluid). So I had a complete transmission flush work done, but it's still leaking. .

7 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

After driving approximately 30 miles on the interstate I stopped and went into a store. When I came back out in 5-10 minutes and attempted to started it, the engine felt as though it were "jumping". Had it towed to the dealer. They said it had dropped a valve seat. Chrysler determined that it happened because it had been overheated. However there were absolutely no overheat codes in the computer. The gauges have never read hot. It was not low on coolant. They stated that there were no leaks. It was never hot.

8 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

The head cracking issue seems to be the result of several bad castings and I can only speculate that the cast iron used in one large batch made around the year 2000 must have been of poor quality. The area between the no. 3 and 4 exhaust ports is the hottest part of the head and is subjected to the largest temperature fluctuations, making that the area most prone to crack. The first sign of a problem is unexplained loss of coolant. If there are no external coolant leaks, remove the oil filler cap and look between the valve springs of the no. 3 and 4 cylinders.

9 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

Jeep 2000 Grand Cherokee laredo inline 6cyl I recently experienced low coolant and oil pressure problems. I had the water pump replaced, the oil sensor switch replaced, and the oil pump replaced. The repairs were done individually in that order. I am still experiencing low coolant although the car does not seem to overheat. I recently had a pressure test and there were no leaks. When the car is started in the morning I have the proper oil pressure. As soon as the car warms up the oil pressure fluctuates and eventually activates the alert indicator (bell sound). The engine sounds fine and there are no performance problems. I brought the car back to the service station that did the repairs. The mechanic suggested that I use a heavier oil for the pressure problem. I will let you know the results. This may be the last attempt before an engine overhaul. Jeep should have a recall for these problems.

10 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/26/2009

I have had a slow coolant leak for the last year and cannot figure out why. Also the oil gauge is reading 0 at idle, but goes back to normal when driving. I also have had three different cylinder misfires in the last year. I have taken this vehicle to different repair shops and nobody can tell me where the coolant is going and if these are all related. I have replaced the water pump, oil pressure sensor switch, spark plugs, rail pack, spark plug boots, and thermostat. Vehicle has 120k miles.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4. 0l inline 6 with cracked cylinder head (between #3 & 4) allowing coolant fluid to leak into engine. Noticed coolant disappearing @90,000 miles. Had pressure test by 2 different dealers. Cracked cylinder head diagnosed by second dealer recently. Problem appears to be a defect in the cylinder head casting #0331. Discovered many other owners with same problem at carsurvey. Org. Under Jeep cherokee reviews. Please order a recall! I could not believe how many people have experienced the same scenario as myself on carsurvey. Org website.

14 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/25/2008

My wife and I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee from the dealership. About two years ago the 4. 0 liter 6 cylinder engine started using coolant and causing the coolant light to alarm. The oil pressure would drop to "0" and sound the check gauges alarm. We took the car to the mechanic shop for costly repairs and troubleshooting. They replaced the water pump, couldn't find any leaks, and replaced the oil pump and rear main seal. They checked the bearing clearances and found them within tolerance. The car is still using one to two pints of coolant every three days and the oil continues to drop to "0" after warm-up. We replace the 4 wheel disc brakes and rotors every two years. The hood gas shocks won't hold the hood up and the shocks cost $150 a pair form the dealer and only last one year. We to have electric door locks that screech and don't lock the doors as well as rear light problems that work off and on. The emissions are much higher than normal on our recent smog test. This is an indication that the #3 and 4 cylinder is using the mysterious antifreeze loss. As a retired mechanical engineer I also believe the oil problem to be related. My wife has the Grand Cherokee and I purchased a tj wrangler new in 2000. I'm concerned this vehicle will develop the same problems having the same engine. We have invested over $50 thousand in these two cars. We need your help to help us offset this burden.

15 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee is having problems like many other people. The low coolant light constantly comes on and I have to add coolant weekly, although there is no visible leak. Mechanics have told me they cannot find the problem until this past week when a mechanic told me the coolant was leaking into my engine and mixing with my oil. The mechanic estimated I will need a completely new engine within a few months since the coolant-oil mixture has been running through my engine for some time now. The mechanic stated that the engine will stop running in the very near future. My rear left brake and tail light goes out when I step on the brakes. I have had several issues with the rotors and finally had the mechanic replace them with a different kind.

16 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2008

I have a 200 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo and after reading many sites (blogs, complaint sites, etc. ) I see that others are having the exact same problems I am. My Jeep has 101,000 miles on it and it is experiencing coolant leaks and also the crack in the cylinder head between the 3rd and 4th cylinder. Now the y way I see it, is that is soooooo many people are experiencing this problem then there should be a recall on it. It is not fair to the consumers that we are shelling out all of this money for a problem that is in the vehicle design.

17 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee= my vehicle should have been covered under the lemon laws of the us. Equipment failures: - window regulators- replaced 2 - heated seats- both seats have the wires burnt in two in them; possible fire hazard. . . Not covered in recall of a later year - blend doors broke- had to replace all three motors and doors - left turn signal does not function consistently - door lock system is failing: driver's door has quit locking; has to be done manually; back door behind the driver makes a squawking noise when you lock the doors, tailgate is not locking; alarm will go off if you open the door, but it is not locked. _constant small coolant leak.

18 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/29/2006

Vehicle low coolant light came on, checked fluid level it was low. Oil pressure dropped drastically. Normally indicates ~40 psi while at operating temperature, it now indicates 10 psi at idle, in drive. At start up, when engine is hot, the oil pressure gauge will not move until the throttle is depressed. My local repair shop owner called a local Jeep shop who informed him that the head was probably cracked, and that leaked coolant internally, causing the cam and or main bearings to wipe out, indicated by the oil pressure readings being low. According to the Jeep service shop, this is a known defect with the 6 cylinder engine. I then took the vehicle to a Chrysler 5 star service center. After explaining everything to the service manager, he said they would check it out but that he had heard of no such problem regarding this motor. The next day, he called to inform me that the motor did have a cracked head and that they would be replacing it under warranty. When I asked him about possible damage to the lower half of the motor he stated that there was no way of knowing that coolant leakage had caused the problem, that Chrysler would not warranty replacement of the engine, and that 3-5lbs of oil pressure is acceptable at idle, 10psi being normal for this motor. I contacted Chrysler corporate via email - response- they were sorry I was dissatisfied and that "intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose. . . " - follow up phone call yielded the exact same response. I am concerned that once the head assembly is replaced, both the dealer and Chrysler will try to ignore the low oil pressure problem until the vehicle is beyond warranty coverage, absolving them of any responsibility to repair it further. This is also a major safety issue with this vehicle. Should the engine fail, a serious multi vehicle accident may result from motorists passing thru the resulting oil slick, especially in a congested highway situation. It is my opinion that chrylser knows of this defect.

19 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee have spent over $3000. 00 to fix a coolant low light that keeps coming on and low oil pressure. The problem persists despite taking the vehicle to the Jeep dealership and someone else to figure out the source. No leak. Replaced everything from water pump to fan. This absolutely has to be an issue from the manufacturer and I would like to see a recall. There must be something to correct this problem. After searching online for an answer, I found that this is a common problem with the make and model of my Jeep. This has been an ongoing issue for 2 years.

20 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/03/2003

Sent Jeep grand cherrokee laredo to jay wolfe Jeep on Jan 31 2003 to check out low oil pressure indicator which comes on daily and low coolant which comes on every so often. Vehicle has between 48000 and 49000 miles on it. Was told it was sending unit then got call saying that it wasnt and would have to drop oil pan. Was also told no sign of coolant leak or mix with oil. I now have recieved call indicating that it could be blown head gasket with miles indicated above. After further inquire I found that none of the basic testing was done to check for oil and coolant mix, this was admited to me by jeff who is one of the service atttendants. Jeep should be the one paying for a blown head gasket when the car has these low miles on it. Jeep dealer should also be covering costs since they failed their fudiciary duty to properly diagnose the car with the basic checks.
