The engine stalled completely while I was at a traffic signal, preparing to make a turn onto a busy highway. Loss of power to brakes & steering since the engine completely shut down. I shifted the vehicle into park, started the engine again, shifted into drive but the vehicle would not move. Eventually (in a matter of seconds) the vehicle lunged forward and I was able to safely drive home.

Engine stalls, wont start or dies right after starting, I think it is part of a recall with no fix available. If in motion it dies and losses power. Put in neutral to start while rolling! this happens more and more frequently lately.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 35 mph, the engine stalled and all the indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 (fuel pump). The contact spoke with an unknown dealer and was informed to wait on the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the part was not available for the repair and advised the contact that they may need to replace the fuel pump; however, it may not correct the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 60 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact powered off the engine, restarted the vehicle, and was able to drive normally. The contact stated that the rpms were decreasing, which caused the vehicle to slow down. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled while driving at a low speed. The battery was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
April '20 received recall #v62/NHTSA 19v-813 for fuel pump relay. Fuel pump relay is susceptible to silicon contamination on the relay contacts which can cause relay to fail. "a vehicle engine stall while driving can cause a vehicle crash without warning. This recall was issued 11/14/19. To date no repair is available per my calls to the fca recall assistance center, reedman toll's auto world (dealership where I purchased the Jeep). I have been driving the car a limited amount due to the recall. I had to drive the car on the PA turnpike for a doctor's appointment. I realized then how many people would die if my engine stalled, without warning, while I was traveling at 65 mph. Surrounded by tractor trailers and cars. I have called Jeep corporate telephone numbers and the switchboard refers me to the fca recall assistance or the dealer. Reedman auto world stated they do not have a fix for the recall. Is Jeep not fixing this recall because any deaths will be collateral damage? I would my vehicle fixed or a comparable loaner car. If you are not the right place to contact please let me know who I should contact. I think this is a life threatening issue.

Engine stalled while in motion on us highway 101 on 11/7/19; fortunately no crash occurred. We took into mechanic at Jeep santa maria; they had it all week from 11/8/19 to 11/15/19 and said it was fine. It appears this was caused by a faulty part that was installed pursuant to a previous recall that fca has been investigating since 2018. We are anxious to have this open NHTSA campaign number:19v813000 resolved ASAP.
The engine is stalling suddenly while driving in highway. All electrical systems shut downs after this occurs. Other Grand Cherokee have received recalls for the same issue (control modules) but not for my VIN number. This is very unsafe.

When I press the push start and the brake, the engine will stall and not turn over. It has happened multiple times in the 4 years I've had it. The last time I tried to start it, it would not crank. I used jumper cables to try and revive the battery. Doing this reverted power back to my vehicle, yet it would still not turn over. I then had to put the keyfob into the ignition and try it manually. Still nothing worked and my car will not turn over and start. It makes one click, and then nothing.
Engine stalls no matter what speed I'm going. Happens more often when coming to a stop. It's as if I just turn the key off. When it stalls, I stop and put it in park, turn the key off and start it right back up and take off. It's becoming a dangerous safety concern.

Engine stalls for no reason under braking and deceleration. Happens more often when braking and turning. Loss of power steering when it happens. Does not happen frequently , more often in the cold when the car has been started. Cant replicate it when car is hot. Dangerous when it has happened on exit ramps as car has to be controlled with no power steering and car has to come to a complete stop, put in park where it has always restarted. People behind me not happy when stopping on exit ramps. Have brought to dealer after it has happened and the car has not thrown any codes. There is not real pattern to this stalling, but, having to stop the car to restart it posses a danger of getting rear ended. Happens at speeds between 30 to 60. Happens most frequently in rotaries (roundabouts) when slowing down to enter.
Vehicle's engine stalls unexpectedly while driving. The car was bought in 2018 and the engine stalled for the first time in February 2019. The engine stalled again in June 2020 and twice in February 2021. The engine stalls while driving usually while making a right turn. I was in danger because the car suddenly went dead with cars behind me. I could have easily been rear-ended in all of those instances. Recall was performed, but engine stalled again about two weeks after the fuel pump relay was replaced. The engine stalling while driving causes the car to stop suddenly, and it can result in injuries, car accident, loss of life and or property damage. Lester glenn dealership is where I bought the car from and they were the ones who replaced the fuel pump relay. They had the car for two months after I brought it in when the engine stalled again after the fuel pump relay was replaced. Chrysler was contacted and they closed the case due to the dealership telling them that they cannot reciprocate the issue.
Engine stalls while driving without warning. This started in November 2018 and has happened 5 times since. Have taken it to 3 different repair shops and still no resolution. There was a recall back in 2015 #15v-115 to fix the fuel pump relay which could cause this to happen. Service was done per the recall. Have an active case with Jeep (fiat) but they have been no help and keep sending us the Jeep dealer. Diagnostics have been done 3 times to no avail. This is a significant safety issue as the vehicle dies while driving and the steering locks up as well as the brakes. Each time this happens the vehicle is in motion going about 40mph. Has happened while going straight and while turning. The radio stays on and no warning lights appear on the dashboard.
The engine instantly stalls without warning at any given time or speed while driving on a street or highway. The stall unexpectedly forces the driver into an unsafe operating position having to pull off to the side of the road without the assistance of power steering or power brakes. After coming to a complete stop, the vehicle must then be shifted back into park and restarted. The vehicle has stalled a minimum of 30 times on separate occasions over the last 12 months. The vehicle was examined by our local Jeep dealer and they were unable to determine the cause of the stalling or provide us with a course of action to resolve the issue.
Tl - the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 70mph she smelled an abnormal odor and the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle engine stalled. The contact stated she saw smoke that came from the top of the hood and when the hood was lifted the engine was on fire. A police report filed and the fire department extinguished the fire. There was not injuries sustained and not medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed by Jan's med-a-car to the a dealer security Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram (345 merrick rd, amityville, NY 11701. 631-240-0824) who diagnosed the vehicle and informed it was a total loss. The manufacturer was notified and informed that an investigator would come out and investigate the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000. Jc.

Twice while in motion, after making a turn and slowing from 35 to about 14 mph, the engine stalled. Once in Dec 2017, next in may 2018, I had to come to a complete stop in both cases in order to start the engine. Fortunately no one was behind me.

Intermittently, vehicle will take a long time to start using the push-to-start button. Sometimes the engine will stall seconds after the long start happens, after enough time to go into drive/reverse from being stationary. This has been dangerous as the vehicle is moving (pulling into traffic from parking spot, city street) when the engine stalls. At that time the only way to restart is to re-cycle the push-to-start button through the off/accessory/on. Typically after the stall the vehicle will start right up. Vehicle has had the tipm recall (#15v-115) performed.
While driving at highway speed on a 2-lane road, our Jeep Grand Cherokee ecodiesel began to lose power. The lights on the instrument cluster began going off seemingly randomly, and the vehicle had to be quickly pulled over and put in a safe condition on the side of the road as the engine stalled. The engine would not restart. After 2 months of troubleshooting with Chrysler engineering, our shop believes they have found the issue, which is a faulty tone wheel in the drivetrain, at where the engine couples to the transmission. The tone wheel lost about 1/4" of encoded magnetic material, and this made the vehicle inoperable, even while at highway speed. This failure threw no codes to the computer for the technician to interpret, and the only symptom is that the engine would not fire, even though, as a diesel, there is no spark ignition system.

Since September 2017, my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been in the repair shop four times due to the vehicle not starting. The alternator and battery was checked once per month up until December, but each time I was informed that both parts were in good condition based on the diagnostics. However, after each repair visit the vehicle would not start after a few days. Between repair visits a number of other issues occured: *automatically accelerating at high speed (Jan 18) *engine stalling while driving (Jan 18) *blowing cool air on one side and hot air on the other (sept 17) *doors locking and unlocking when unattended (sept 17) *windows going down half way when unattended (oct 17) *radio powering on when turned to the off position (Nov 17) the most recent incident happened two weeks ago when the car stalled and stopped in the middle of a busy stretch of road with three vehicles in close proximity. Due to ongoing issues, this week I had the car towed to Jeep for another assessment. The Jeep adviser called me back the next day stating my battery and alternator needed to be replaced for $1282 otherwise the car wouldn't start without a constant charge. The battery was just replaced a year ago in June 2017. With all of the issues mentioned it's clear that the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a design issue/flaw that poses a major safety concern for consumers. The issues that need to be investigated or re-investigated for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee are the alternator and power module replacement. Most, if not all of the issues mentioned could be directly linked to the tipm. My request is that cas, NHTSA, and Chrysler consider or reconsider the above mentioned for both safety concerns and the undue repair expenses paid by consumers that appear to be directly linked to faulty design.
Engine randomly stalls for no reason while in motion, leaving the car coasting with no power brakes or power steering. Once the car is brought to a stop, it will start back up and continue driving as if nothing was wrong. Internet searches reveal that it is a common problem afflicting these models with no clear solution.
This is not the first time this has happened owned car since oct 17 the engine stalls in the middle of driving has happened 6 times. A near miss twice of hitting a tree. You loss power steering when this happens. Took to dealer and they cant find anything wrong. Taking it back tomorrow 2/1/18 to do a diagnostic test and keep the car until it does it. Very dangerous to drive! Jeep do something about it! listen to the complaints on the internet! seems very common practice for Jeep.
I was driving down the street at about 35 mph when the battery icon flashed on. The air conditioner and the radio cutoff following the display of the battery icon. A few seconds later the power steering went out along with a loss of power. A message displayed on the dashboard telling me to pull over immediately along with a service trans brake message and a few others that I can't recall. I tried to get to a safe location but the vehicle shifted into park and completely turned off when I was going less than 5 mph. Causing the vehicle to be stranded in the middle of the road with traffic trying to get by. I slowed down because there were vehicles in front of me making turns. This is the third time this has happened. Towed vehicle to dealership and they said the alternator burned up. The battery is damaged as well. This sounds similar to the two recalls named "alternator may fail resulting in engine stall". Notified the dealership and Jeep customer care about this and they informed me that they can fix this recall because my VIN is not part of the recall. Vehicle is out of warranty so they say the repairs will come out of my pocket. After the first time this happened about a year ago I refuse to drive the vehicle on the highway because of the sudden shutoff and loss of steering. I feel this could cause an accident and I refuse to take that risk.

Engine stalled out at 40 mph upon entering a right turn exit ramp. No power steering or brakes were available until I was able to stop the vehicle and restart engine. Concerned if airbags would deploy if engine was off and vehicle in motion.
Jeep engine stalled out with no warning while driving 60 mph down the interstate.
On multiple occasions, our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 5. 7l engine stalls while braking and trying to turn corners. Recall p54 to replace fuel pump relay to correct this issue was done in November 2015, but the issue has continued. Most recently occurred sept 8th, 11th and now today the 14th. Had vehicle in for diagnostics on sept 13th and Jeep technicians were unable to find the problem. When this stalling occurs, there are no warning lights and apparently no fault codes generated. When motor stalls, we lose power steering and brakes and have ended up on the wrong side of road trying to get stopped. This usually happens when decelerating and braking to turn off or onto a highway.
Jeep gc2011 engine stalls while driving! current recall under Chrysler #t36 and NHTSA #17v435 only covers year 2012-2014. Chrysler needs to be notified to include year 2011. Ongoing issues of staling and complaints for 2011 has been logged since 2012 and is a serious mechanical issue that should be under the recall. If anyone has experienced staling please document and send the complaint or if you know someone who has died from this please file to save others!.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at unknown speeds, the instrument cluster lights flashed and the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
When I come to a stop/slow down the engine intermittently stalls - typically this is when I'm driving on city streets when I'm stopping. It has happened while turning both left and right, going up hill and down hill, and more often when the engine is cool. The fuel level can be full or low and it still happens. Friday may 19, 2017 it happened four times in a 20 mile trip on roads with speed limits ranging from 30mph to 55mph, once at a stop light, once at a round about, once at a stop sign, and once at a left hand turn. P54 recall was already addressed.
While driving at a constant speed on the highway, the engine stalled causing the brakes and power steering to be disabled. The first time it happened, 11/12/16, I was taking an exit off of the freeway. When I pressed the brake to slow down for the approaching red light, the pedal was stiff and would bot slow the vehicle. Thankfully, the light turned green so I let the vehicle coast. As I went to turn right, I realized there was no power steering either. After crossing over 2 lanes I was able to bring the car to a stop on the side of the road. That's when I realized the engine had stalled. Brought it to the dealership, paid $700 for something, then drove it back since they said it was fixed. Five months later, 4/20/17, same exact thing happened. It was 8:30am and I was bringing my 18mo old to daycare when I pressed the brake pedal to stop at a red light ahead and realize it was stiff and not working again. Fortunately, again, the light turned green and the car in front of me accelerated. I fought with the steering wheel to turn into a nearby gas station after the letting vehicle coast to a slower speed. After both incidences, I turned the vehicle off, waited a few minutes, then turned it back on. It hesitated a few times then cranked and functioned properly afterwards. Furthermore, during both incidences I was very slightly turning to the right; the first time to exit the hwy and the second time I was veering into the right lane. During the first incident, I was travelling on the freeway around 65mph. During the second, I was traveling at about 50mph.

Engine stalls without warning while driving at any speed. All gauges including speed, rpm's, temp, fuel, etc. All stay for a few seconds after stalling and then all drop off. The Jeep gc used to start up after a few seconds and was once in a while at first with this issue. Then it became more often that he Jeep would stall, the same thing with the dash for a few seconds the speed, rpm's, etc. Would be at where it was before stalling with no power steering or power brakes while moving. Very hard to steer on curves when the Jeep stalls. Put in a pcm, crankshaft sensor, & camshaft sensor. Ase mechanic stumped on issue. Very dangerous driving and reminds me of the gm ignition switch problems. And I have seen forums on the Jeep Grand Cherokee on my year that there are a lot of problems with this. Please look into this problem, because it seems like a manufacture defect.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 55 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 49,000.
