Driving on the interstate in wy, 70-75mph, rolling trrain, cruise control on. All of the sudden the vehicle DE-acelerated. The transmission was in automatic when this occured. Both of my hands on the wheel when this happened. Tried to re-acelerate, but the vehicle was very sluggish. The gear was stuck in high gear, which would not change until I pulled over, put the gear in park, and then in drive. No injuries, no damage, but I don't want this to happen again. Could have been a badproblem if I was in heavier traffic. When I got home I recieved the recall notice for udden acceleration with the cruise on.

I own a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo limited, purchased from a dealer new. Last week I pulled into my driveway, turned the Jeep off and went to get out and my alarm system went off. Could not turn it off with either fob, I was even able to start it up and drive. Remote start would not work for 3 days. Cruise control just turns off when it wants while driving on interstate over 60 mph. Gps states I'm off route and freezes in the location where it happened on interstate, normal weather(no overcast/fog). Wipers just start working while sitting in the driveway idling, as you're driving. . . No dust, rain, bugs etc. . . Windshield leaks and rain comes in from behind the rearview mirror/sunglass holder when it rains and you have to take a sharp turn(not with normal turns). . . Leaks down on cell phone which sits in little cubby to charge. The vehicle surges when going under 20 mph, usually when you are trying to start from a stop is when it' worse. Under 25k miles and I am afraid as to what might happen next.

Multiple problems with the forward collision warning (fcw) and adaptive cruise control (acc) systems 1) system will issue false brake warnings (and apply brakes if enabled) on clear straight roads with no other cars or obstructions. 2) system will disable itself at random intervals disable itself for a period of time (10-20 minutes). Only notification is brief "fcw/acc system disabled" notification in gauge cluster - no audio warning that important safety system disabled itself. 3) when using acc, when vehicle resumes set speed after autonomous braking, vehicle will accelerate into back of next vehicle ahead - have to manually intervene and apply brakes to prevent collision. Note that this vehicle uses a bosch lrr3 radar sensor system for the fcw and acc features. Vehicle has been into Jeep dealers for service for this issue five times, and even after opening star case with Jeep/Chrysler fca, still no fix for this serious safety issue.

Adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance did not work properly, and resulted in a collision. I was driving on a highway, relying on the adaptive cruise control and the automatic breaking, a feature of collision avoidance. There was a slow down in traffic, and although the system slowed down and applied break, it did so too late to stop car. As I got too close, I applied steady pressure on the break, but I still hit the car in front of me, who then hit the car in front of them. No significant damage to either of the other cars, and mine has minor cosmetic damage, and the adaptive cruise control is now not working properly. Could have been significantly worse. Makes me really question the potential for self-driving cars.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that he had experienced several failure on the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving at various rates speed, the contact would hear knocking and banging sounds coming from engine without warning. The warning light eventually illuminated after the issue persisted for some time. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer(port jervis Chrysler Jeep Dodge parts 131 kingston Ave, port jervis, NY 12771 845-856-6211) where they replaced the transfer case; however the failure continued to occur. The transmission had ultimately been replaced twice by an independent mechanic. The contact also stated that as he was closing his rear hatch, the contact saw smoke coming from both license plate bulbs. The contact immediately shut off the vehicle and removed the bulbs from their sockets. The contact called a dealer(dealer unknown) to have the bulbs replaced and was given a quote of $250. 00 a bulb. The light bulbs had not been replaced. The contact stated that when he turns on his cruise control, the cruise control continued to function even when he tried to disengage the cruise control. The contact had to put the vehicle in neutral in order to disengage the cruise control. The contact also expressed that he had expressed several other failure with the vehicle including other electrical, engine, and suspension issues. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, however, the manufacturer informed the contact that he only had one recall on his vehicle and offered no further assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000. Jo.
The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the front driver and passenger side windows randomly lowered without warning. The contact had to use the electronic function to wind the windows up each time the failure occurred. The cruise control failed to engage and disengage, which caused the contact to have to turn off and restart the vehicle. The service engine light illuminated when the cruise control failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

On March 8, 2016, while driving northbound on interstate 49 in harrisonville, mo, the engine speed raced when taken off cruise control. The Jeep stayed at highway speed -- above 60mph -- and even pressing the brakes did not slow down the Jeep. The only way I was able to get the Jeep under control was to turn off the entire engine ignition. Only by exerting effort to overcome and compensate for the loss of power steering and power brakes was I able to coast to a safe stop off the highway. The tow operator who responded attempted to start the engine but found the same result ¿ runaway engine revs. The Jeep was towed to dealer service department that evening. The next morning, service advisor investigated and determined that the throttle pedal was stuck down to the floor. He loosened it by manipulation. The throttle butterfly valve was found to be stuck in the open position by a shredded piece of rubber that flaked off the resonator body intake connector. Service department performed: ¿rubber from intake seal stuck throttle body. Removed debris¿. The technician showed me the piece of shredded rubber and gave it to me. I kept it, and the entire defective resonator body, in my possession. There may be other reports of runaway engine revs but this instance seems to be related to the design of the resonator intake pathway. Although my Jeep has 246,289 miles on it, the defect was not a result of wear but seems to be result of defective design. The intake air pathway is subject to shredding rubber parts which can come loose, enter the intake air pathway and block the throttle butterfly. This seems to be an unnecessarily hazardous design.

Forward collision warning (fcw) occasionally comes on without reason in city traffic, interstates, and country roads (no traffic or obstructions nearby) and at various speeds causing a "brake" warning signal and sometimes, not always, actually causing the vehicle to brake. Related to the fcw problem is a warning signal that frequently appears that indicates the adaptive cruise control/fcw are unavailable. Vehicle has been in shop numerous times and except for one time that the dealership found a part missing, the dealership continues to indicate they cannot duplicate the problem. The problem remains on-going and has not been resolved. The date of occurance below is the most recent event with the "brake" warning.
Speed control acceleration. Driving on interstate returning from vacation, cruise was set at 70mph. When approaching a slower vehicle, cruise was deactivated and reactivated when pass was completed. When reactivated the cruise control would not stop accelerating. This has happened 3 years ago and ever since I test the cruise control the problem of out of control acceleration persists. The out of control acceleration can be stopped by stepping on the brakes or manually turning off the cruise control. I had a mechanic look at it and they cannot determine what the cause is. I cannot even disable the cruise control without effecting other electronics. I am afraid to allow anyone else to drive this vehicle in the event they would unknowing use the cruise control and get into a serious accident.

While traveling on the express way at a steady speed of 70 mph, without cruise control, the accelerator pedal moved suddenly away from the foot and stayed in the full gas position accelerating the car to well over 80 mph. Attempts to return the pedal to a safe position failed. There was no floor mat interference of any kind and cruise control was not active that day because of excessive truck traffic. Only extraordinary braking slowed the car to allow squeezing between trucks on the right lane and eventually coming to a stop on the free way shoulder. After letting things cool down for a few minutes and restarting the engine, things appeared to have returned to normal and the trip home could be completed without incident. The car was not driven subsequently until a local dealership was able to investigate the event. Nothing was found except the on-board computer displays the code indicating that both the accelerator and brake systems were active at the same time. - at the moment we are at our second dealership and are under advisement from Chrysler to continue the investigation. However nothing different has been determined so far. We are unwilling to use the car due to the imminent threat of a recurrence of the unknown phenomenon.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would stop accelerating and approximately 20 second later the vehicle would operate as normal. The contact indicated that the warning "electronic throttle calibration" would display during the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the adaptive cruise control sensor but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,500. Jft.
While travelling on open highway with no vehicles in front of me, the adaptive cruise control will dramatically slow down as if it's detecting a vehicle in front. This was reported to the dealer who responded that they would need to take my vehicle home on a 20 mile trip, in rush hour, with cars around them. Unless I let them take my vehicle on a long highway trip, in the early morning hours, this will not be re-produced. I said no for obvious reasons. This is now documented with the dealership and Chrysler.
While driving with the adaptive cruise control engaged the vehicle braked itself hard extremely slowing the car down on the highway. There were no cars in front or in other lanes when this happened. Had a car been following me I would most likely been rear ended. Took the vehicle to the dealer and, after checking out the vehicle, they indicated that they could not duplicate the problem, that the software was up to date, and that the acc system is "working as designed. " this is a major safety issue that under different circumstances could have resulted in a serious accident with injuries or worse.
A few weeks/months after the purchase of my Jeep about 2 years ago, I noticed that my cruise control had stopped working and the abs light had come. I checked my fuses and relays and they were ok. Then a day or so later I was driving on the interstate and my check engine light and my brake lights came on. My Jeep then seemed to downshifted itself. It felt as if the transmission had locked up, it slowed to about 30mph and would not shift onto another gear. I pulled over killed the motor. After a few attempts to drive it, I turned the key over and noticed the break and engine lights were off so I attempted to drive home and was sucessfull. This started to happen more and more often. I noticed that it mainly happened when either I was running my ac or it was wet/raining outside. I then started researching Jeep problems and recalls. I came across the daminoncrysler recall no. 13. The recall had described the issue I was having, so I researched my VIN and it staled that the recall no. 13 has already been completed on Jeep. Now my Jeep is stuck in limp mode and will not reset. It will not shift and the abs, brake and engine lights stay on. Is there a way to find out exactly what service did they did when it was recalled in 2005 (if any)? I dont know what to do.

Started the vehicle and noticed that parksense and forward collision warning were not working and every few minutes, the instrument panel, would beep and often display an error message. The messages it displayed were, "service shifter" (displayed most often), "park sense off" (it would automatically turn on and off) and "acc/fcw not working service required" (displayed a few times). Also, the screen (instrument panel) would flicker a few times and beep. The forward collision warning sensor did not work, regular cruise control did not work, adaptive cruise control did not work and parking sensors did not work. I brought it to the dealership and it appears that the acc ball (radar/camera/the thing that looks like the eye ball on the front bumper) had corrosion and all wires were shot. They ordered a new piece with harness and will replace it. However, it is my concern that this is a major electrical issue. The water can easily get into the harness (rain/snow/car wash). It should be still under warranty but what is the solution after the warranty is over? it looks like it needs to be replaced every 16,000 miles (approx. ).
I was pulling my travel trailer south on i65 south at 70 mph and just crossed the alabama state line and saw yellow flashing light and a sign to reduce speed to 60 mph. I was in cruise control set at 70 mph. I pressed the minus shift paddle to slow down but it didn't shift down low enough to slow me down. I then pushed the plus shift paddle to put me back into cruise control. The engine then over revved and shut down and I no longer had power to control forward motion. I coasted to the berm while tractor trailers zoomed by me. I had enough momentum to leave the highway ramp 143 and the come to a stop. The engine push start button still indicated run. I made a right turn as the engine was limping along. I then made another right turn on airport road and engine was still limping. Not knowing what to do I limped on to a dirt road until I came to a grain silo with a parking area in which I stopped. I then pushed the start button which was still in run and the button indicated off. I then pushed the start button and the engine started as normal with normal power and I continued back on my trip to mobile alabama without incident. This problem is a potential safety problem and all owners of my model of Jeep should be warned not to use the shift paddles when in cruise control. The owners manual has no warnings. I called the dealer and then Jeep Chrysler customer hotline 1-800-992-1997 and both told me it was caused by "customer error". I think this control system software should lockout the paddle shift capability when in cruise control or if the speed of vehicle could cause over revving of the engine by down shifting. Maybe a mechanical max rpm switch on the engine would be better than computer software to limit engine revs. This perhaps would eliminate the potential for danger when the vehicle goes into limp mode as it did for me.
Driving through the eisenhower tunnel the brake warning system activated. The brakes did not engage. I have had this Jeep for over a year and have driven through this tunnel over 80 times and now whenever driving through the tunnel this brake warning will flash. This has occurred approximately 16 times now. This warning is now going off on the open interstate and secondary roads. The adaptive cruise control stops workings after 15-20 minutes. This has been into two different dealers, only to tell me the lens was dirty. Within 20 minutes after leaving the dealer (who cleaned the sensor) the system stops working and says to clean the sensor. No snow or water was driven through prior to the message being displayed.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving with the adaptive cruise control activated at 70 mph, the brakes engaged independently. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal in order to override the system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,200.
Our SUV is equipped with collision avoidance and adaptive cruise control. The vehicle has repeatedly and without cause either alarmed or in some cases slowed to avoid a collision that is not eminent (I. E. Along a straight section of highway with no vehicle or object within sight of the car). The system has provided multiple false alarms and we have not been able to determine a pattern or trigger. Additionally the car reports at times that the acc is inoperable and then moments later the fault message disappears. The car has been taken in for service to address. To date the dealer has been unable to replicate the problem and Jeep is unwilling to replace any parts or acknowledge the problem until it is replicated for them to be able to witness.
Cruise control placed at 55 continually accelerates & speeds up to 80 plus once it crests a hill before down shifting or I have to break hard to slow down and shut cruise off.
Loss of power while driving, wont shift, no cruise control, brake lights on, . This happens at lest one a week.
1) collision avoidance system engages for no safety reason whatsoever. The 'brake' warning on the dash flashes, the brakes charge, and the brakes engage. I can be the only vehicle on the road and this will occur. Has been happening intermittently each and every day the vehicle is driven. Causes distracted driving, sudden unexpected stopping and unsafe performance of the vehicle putting vehicle occupants at grave risk. 2) after a period of driving time with the adaptive cruise control engaged, the system disengages for no apparent reason. A message alerting the driver to clean the lens is displayed on the dash. The lens is not dirty or obstructed in any way. This occurs each and every time the adaptive cruise control is engaged. Causes unanticipated deceleration of the vehicle, distracted driving, and unsafe performance of the vehicle putting vehicle occupants at grave risk.
I had driven approximately 520 miles enroute to my vacation home and was driving with the cruise control activated and seatbelts were in use by both myself and passenger. Suddenly and at the same time the seatbelt and airbag warning lights came on and within a few seconds the cruise control disengaged and the message "acc/fcw unavailable service required" popped up on the dashboard. For the duration of my vacation the vehicle was operational however I had no cruise control. Contacted two Jeep dealers in the area and they were too booked up to service my vehicle. Upon my return home I took it in to my Jeep dealer. Here is the exact quote from their service invoice as to what was discovered: "found many modules with loss of communications with the orc module (airbag module) with codes in them. Found orc to have an internal fault, replaced and set up orc module".
Trying to set cruise control on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, pushed the set + button to set cruise speed, but would not set. Also tried to just accelerate using the set + button and this would also not increase cruise speed. After numerous times of pushing set + the vehicle would speed up at a higher rate of speed than the one or two clicks. Had to eventually quit using cruise control and it is was unrealiable. Have used in past w/o incident. Had vehicle in for routine maintenance on 8/13/2014 and this was not an issue addressed in any recalls or program updates.
I was headed out of work , drove about 1/2 mile . Suddenly the Jeep started accelerating . I pressed the brakes, and it seemed like I was stepping on the gas . I thought it ,might of been that the cruise control got activated , but that was not it . Then I though maybe the car mat was on the pedal , but that wasn't it either. There was red lights, car waiting for the green light, and my Jeep seemed to accelerate more. Luckily the light turned green, but the car seemed to go faster . I was able to speed into a super market with an empty parking lot, decided to switch the ignition to off. I opened the hood to check if maybe something was stuck , I moved the throttle, turned the Jeep back on , seemed like nothing had happened . It was a very scary experience. I was looking into what may had caused the problem, and came across an article where Jeeps where being recalled for this problem.

Purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo in June of 2013. Have experienced no problems with operation throughout first 10031 miles driven. Departed on extended vacation trip at end of may. After travelling 824 miles, air bag light came on with alarm and dashboard notification advising to have air bags serviced immediately. Shortly thereafter, the seat belt alarm activated with the bell warning, advising that the driver side belt was not engaged, when it was securely set. This condition would continue throughout each driving day. I have now traveled over 3400 miles, experiencing the same annoying, and unsafe condition, including the cruise control now turning off without warning. I have checked with several dealerships, only to be told that this problem could not be identified. There remains 3000 miles to be travelled to return to my home. I do intend on meeting this situation head on through my dealer with Jeep.
Traveling at highway speed numerous warning messages and warning chimes started to go off. Created distractions to driving and it appears that air bag and seat belts stopped functioning intermittently. Cruise control also failed. Vehicle already serviced on all prior recalls two months ago. These issues are new starting on 5/23/2014. Dealer appt is scheduled for 5/26/2014. In past, also reported issues with transmission shifting and hvac. Not a well tested vehicle. Far too many dangerous issues with vehicle. Hope NHTSA can investigate issues.
1. When adaptive cruise control is set and vehicle has to adjust speed, there is a static noise coming from under the steering column. 2. When adaptive cruise control is set, vehicle will accelerate when approaching vehicles instead of slowing down. 3. Vehicle brakes on it's own and displays "brake" in display when more than 3 car lengths away. This happened with and without vehicle adaptive cruise control set. As a side note, Chrysler/Jeep has not been responding to our dealer to rectify these problems.
My vehicle's cruise control (cc) lever has functions like; on-off, accelerate, decelerate, set, resume, cancel. The speed is set to the desired values by pressing the lever up (accelerate) and down (decelerate). When the lever is released to its neutral position, the set speed is maintained until the next interruption. To deactivate the cc without erasing the set speed, driver has to tap on the brake pedal or pull the cc lever toward himself. In order to erase the set speed and deactivate the cc at the same time, the driver has to switch the cc to off position. The nonconformity regarding my vehicle's cc system is unintended deactivation of cc without pulling the lever toward myself or tapping the brake pedal. The unintended deactivation occurs without any warning. Deactivation can only be realized if I, somehow, notice that the vehicle slows down by itself or pressing the lever up becomes non operative. This problem does not occur if I press the cc lever up and down with rapid moves, but if I move the lever up slowly or if I hesitate to accelerate the vehicle for even less then a second and hold the cc lever at a position between the "neutral" and "accelerate", it happens all the time. When it occurs, any attempt to accelerate the vehicle by using the cc lever is vein, unless you realize the situation and reactivate the cc system again. Other than the unintentional slow down of the vehicle without any warning, an other consequence of this nonconformity is the uncontrolled acceleration of the vehicle up to it's previous set speed. When the driver realizes the situation and reactivates the cc, the vehicle comes to the previous set speed almost with a full throttle acceleration. I have informed the local dealer and the authorized service department about the situation but they have claimed that it was my fault to move the lever slowly and move it with hesitations.
I purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited for $46,000 from dothan Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram on Saturday, August 17th, 2013. We drove off the at 8:30 p. M. That evening. On Monday, August 19th, at approximately 4:00 p. M. As I was driving down the highway after having just left my job at the washington county sheriff' office, where I am the public information officer, my vehicles's screen flashed a warning that read: vehicle gear shift malfunction. The screen went completely black for approximately 1 minute. When it came back on the screen read: please service transmission followed by turn off ignition to engage park. I tried to turn off ignition, in the middle of the highway, and the warning then read: vehicle must be in park to turn off ignition. This endless circle continued as I was able to stop the car at a gas station parking lot. I sat in the parking lot of the gas station for approximately 5-7 minutes where I documented (via cellphone camera) the repeated messages and attempted to turn my engine off and simultaneously attempted to put the vehicle in park. The gears would not display. There was no way to see if the vehicle was in park, or what gear it was in at all. After struggling with the vehicle for close to 7 minutes, I was finally able to turn the ignition off. When I restarted the vehicle, the transmission service light was on. I contacted the dealership (as noted above) immediately. I was assured by the salesman that this "happens all the time to Jeeps". This was my first major concern with not only the vehicle, but also the dealership. I have a full team of certified mechanics that work for our office. I met with each of them and was told that this was not a common thing for any vehicle. My cruise control is now completely inoperable.
Wife traveling with son on fwy at legal speed of 70 mph w/cruise control on, car suddenly decelerated causing a violent maneuver forcing car into neighboring lane and almost crashing. She stated it was as if it suddenly downshifted into lowest gear and brakes applied forcefully. Regaining control she deactivated the cruise control and proceeded to destination at 50 mph. Took to dealership in davis where it was diagnosed as catastrophic failure of the transfer case which was then replaced at the cost of $2842. 75. She retrieved car two days later and proceeded to drive back home (distance is @ 178 mi one way). Car repeated sudden deceleration upon entering the fwy and getting up to speed. Continued home due to medical appointments to keep. Kept cruise control off but called dealership to report that replacing the transfer case did not solve the problem. I pulled codes upon her arriving home and found only code 0430 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 2] indicating the converter not working to specs. Today she was returning to davis to visit with grandchildren and experienced the same situation. At 70 mph car suddenly decelerated rapidly (as if brakes were applied forcefully) and caused her to abruptly move into the lane to her left. She regained control and continued on at 50 mph. The dealership informed her no mechanics would be available until Monday but as she has a flight out of lax to catch early Monday a. M. She decided to continue on to l. A. Without using the cruise control and proceeding at slower speed. The power steering pump was replaced on 4/15/2013 at dealerships recommendation due to a leak and the transmission was serviced in addition to having new valve cover and gasket put on. Spark plugs replaced, throttle body and combustion chambers cleaned and pcv valve replaced. Internet research indicates this is a repeated problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I was driving along and decided to turn on the cruise control. When I did the Jeep accelerated out of control and I was going 75. The gas pedal went down to the floor. It would not turn off using the off button on the steering wheel. I slammed on the brakes and the cruise control turned off. At that time the gas pedal popped back up. Over the next week, I attempted to use my cruise control several times, and each time the vehicle speed excelled on its own to dangerous speeds, and the pedal went down to the floor. I have asked a couple of mechanics to look at it and they don't know what is wrong, but the same thing happened to them. They said that this could cause an accident and I had them disconnect the cruise control. I would like it fixed, but no seems to know the problem.
On multiple occasions, the instrument panel has stopped working completely. The lighting in both in the interior of the vehicle as well as the exterior flashes and sometimes goes out completely. Multiple dealers have not been able to find a problem. It has caused near crashes before with the distraction of driving at night. The cruise control also accelerates without any warning while this occurs and the cruise must be reset by turning the car off and back on. This too has caused some near crashes as the car accelerates due to the faulty cruise control.
While traveling at highway speeds (55mph), engaged cruise control and the vehicle accelerated up to 85 mph. Had to hit brake to disengage cruise control. Tried to use it again and the vehicle again went to 85. After 4 or 5 attempts, the cruise control stopped working completely and still does not work to date.
The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving with the cruise control activated at 60 mph when the cruise control and the horn failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 76,000.
