2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited . Oem installed heating system flow sensor (delco model #16250779, serial #0304021 overheated and melted wires and case of sensor. This represents a fire hazard. The local Jeep dealership parts department was well aware of the failure and said they get calls for the part all the time. The local service department explained how to correct the problem and install the new sensor. The national Chrysler customer care denied that there was a problem. 7 Dash Wiring problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/07/2007

Drivers side window on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee on first occasion, may 2007 came out of power window track, wedged between mirror and door frame and the pressure resulted in spider cracked throughout window. This is a hazard due to potential window exploding onto driver while in transit. Also inability to close window during inclement weather could result in traffic crash. Initial repair resulted in window motor also needing to be replaced, motor warranted by Chrysler, but labor was charge to customer. Second occasion September 16,2007, same drivers side door window came out of power window track and wedged between mirror and door frame. This time window did not crack, however, Chrysler dealer would not cover under warranty, charging customer. Story Chrysler Jeep, advised window track parts to repair the molding was back ordered for 3 weeks. Dealership glued old track molding into place so it would not slip out of place causing this power window issue. ( vehicle has 51,031 miles ) additionally, ac/ heat control blower resistor and wiring melted on plug in behind glove compartment of vehicle. This resulted in blower motor only working on high. May be a fire hazard with this vehicle. . . . Again dealer would not warranty work due to 51,031 miles on vehicle this 2. 5 years old vehicle has significant safety issues.

8 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/06/2007

The resistor that allowed the blower motor to work the air conditioner /heater melted the wiring harness and the resistor itself, which at anytime could cause a fire on the passenger's side of the vehicle. This meant there was no air conditioning or heat for the automobile nor defroster system. The company was on a back order from what I was told by 1400 parts. The junk yards did not have this resistor, and after $180 at napa I was able to get one, and that was hard to find ,and I didn't know how long this one will last. After receiving the part the box contained a harness and resistor, the harness had about 10 plugging to where I believe I will have to tear the whole dashboard apart just to connect this harness. I believe this should be a recall for a fire hazard. And tell me why Chrysler isn't selling this part.

9 Dash Wiring problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/14/2007

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I have had several problems with the ventilation system. Sometimes it will blow hot air when the air conditioning is on and sometimes it will blow cold air when the heat is on. I have now spent $1,100 in total related repairs for this and had to have my car in the shop for over2 weeks time total. I was told the last time that the manufacturer warrantied the defective part, the controller, and I was not charged. To me it sounds like the manufacturer is aware there is a defect. Even after the warranty repair it broke again one week later. I think it should be recalled.

12 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/08/2006

My 2000 grand Jeep cherokee larado has a problem with the electrial system. All the dash lites are on and the speedometer dosnt work. It has been at a Jeep dealershjp for almost a month. They cant figure out whats wrong with it. They first replaced a computer modular and I picked it up and the next day I still had the same problems. I took it back and they replaced the samething and told me it was fixed and it happened again after paying out 980. 00. I took it back a third time and the company told them to change the ground wires and that didnt fix the problem. They are out of ideas. The right tale lite keeps going out also. So they just put a new one in. This will not fix the problem as we have changed lite bulb several times. The rear windows will no longer work also. They said they changed the fuse and fixed the problem but it wasnt fixed. This could lead to a ticket for not going the speed limit or accident from speeding, also a rear end crash as the tail lite goes off when you apply the brakes.

13 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/15/2006

Engine light keeps coming on. Dealer, car max, stated it was a chip which cost $350 to repair. They stated it was not life threatening and will not repair it at their cost. I need to know when the light came on if the engine was in trouble or not, and I felt it should be repaired at their expense.

15 Dash Wiring problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/30/2006

We leased a 2005 Jeep cherokee in January 2005 and in January 2006 everything on the dashboard started to cut off including turn signals, odometer. . . And everything on the dash including the cd player, the buttons for the heater/ac would overheat and the car began to smoke for no apparent reason. We took it in to galeana, the local dealership and they could not find a problem, which apparently seems to happen quite often with chyrsler automobiles. Shortly after the car began to break down everywhere. If I parked the car at a store, work, home. . . And went back to start it, it would not crank. This happens 8 out of 10 times and the vehicle has been taken to the dealership 5 times and they could not "duplicate" a problem and now they tell me they can't do anything for me. Shortly after that at the end of 2006, as I was driving down the highway a "pebble" as the dealership calls it, went through my grill and hit the transmission coolant, spraying transmission fluid everywhere almost catching on fire with me and my two small children in it. We took it to the dealership and apparently the transmission was blown out, $4,000 dollars to replace. All of our other problems still exists and Chrysler does not want to fix the problems or let us out of the lease. I have tried talking to Chrysler and getting this issue resolved only to hear them telling me that this was not their problem. This is becoming a trend in their business and if they cannot fix the vehicles they manufactured they should not be making the vehicles in the first place.

16 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (wj), electrical wires melting at blower motor controller for heater /ac interior fan. Fire hazard as this circuit is hot even when the vehicle is off. Poor contact between the wire female spade connector and the blower motor controller male spade terminal caused excessive heat which resulted in the wires being charred and the blower motor controller housing melting. Device is located under the dashboard on the passenger side. According to dealer, daimler Chrysler claims this is not a problem but I experienced it on my vehicle and became alarmed when I read about car fires resulting from this same defect on mycarstats. Com. My vehicle serial number is 1j8gw58n22c182885. I ordered and replaced the melted blower motor and crimped the female connector tighter to make a tighter connection with the male terminal after being notified by the Jeep dealer that this would not be covered and that no TSB existed for this defect. While my car did not catch on fire, this is clearly a fire hazard that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

17 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/05/2005

Duel climate control doors not working no heat on passenger side or on driver side. Windows fog up and make for dangerous driving conditions. Cost 1500. 00 to repair and fix. At the dealership they have seen between 8-10 of these since October 2005 and it is only February 2006. When I called Jeep about the problem the customer service person told me he was "setting me straight" and that he didn't care if I was a customer again. He would not let me talk to a supervisor and he hung up the phone on me.

18 Dash Wiring problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/04/2005

Jeep shutdown while driving on interstate, instrument panel disabled except for the following three indicators: no key indicator, check gage indicator, one beep then the check engine indicator would come on. Would have to wait 15 to 60 minutes before Jeep would start again. Took vehicle to dealer and had the following repairs: hanged ignition keyholder on steeling wheel replaced fuel pump (twice). Replaced fuel pump modulator (separate repair). Replaced gage modulator. Problem still occurs, problem resembles service bulletin 081599.

19 Dash Wiring problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2004

The engine revved at a very high rpms when starting. When changing gears it made a loud clung sound and wanted to lunge into that direction. The vehicle has never shifted properly between gears. It was almost like it was slipping, and then finding the right gear. It was not a smooth transmission either. Since I purchased the vehicle a little over 1-1/2 years ago the car has been in the shop more than 15 times. The dealers could not find the cause of the problem. I had to replace a transmission sensor, 02 sensor, sun roof, rear end, and cd player. The heater blend door had to be replaced , which didn't sound expensive, but the fix was to remove the entire heater plenum and replace the broken door, stop and drive assembly. Cost $890. 00.

21 Dash Wiring problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/12/2004

Air conditioner fan stopped, thought I had it set wrong, changed the setting, started working again. Couple of weeks later it stopped again. Then it would work intermittantly. Called dealer and they said check fuses and relays, checked ok. Called them back, they said check wiring harness for meltdown. Connector and wires going to the blower were melted. They said I needed to schedule an appt. They did not tell me to disconnect wires or that I needed to worry about possible fire. A couple of days later on my way home, smoke stated coming out of dash on passenger side, I shut the engine off. Jumped out and ran around to other side, opened front door to see what was smoking and flames were coming from under the dash. Ran to back door and opened to get fire extinguisher and the smoked knocked me down. Crawled away from vehicle and stumbled to house and called 911. I am so thankful my family wasn't with me especially my 4 year old in his car seat. The thought of it terrifies me. I am still having nightmares of fire and am very paranoid of fire. Diamlercrysler corp. Refuses to accept responsibility even tho it was still under warrenty. Have several witnesses to the melted wiring harness.

22 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/25/2002

We purchased a new $41,000. 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. After one season the heat on the passenger side failed to produce any heat, only cold air. We were traveling to michigan when we discovered this problem. My wife was not happy traveling with a blanket over her entire body for our 2500 miles trip. The dealer fixed the problem the first year. However, the following year, the same thing happened again. There has been many attempts to fix the problem each year since 2002. They were trying to fix the problem with ut taking the dashboard apart, it would cost them too much to do that. , we kept taking the vehicle back to the dealership(for the same problem 10 times. I have a history report of all maintenance & repairs. From the winter of 2002 up until this winter 2005 we have had the same chronic problem with the heat. Its was always on the passenger's side. The dealer finally said the problem was the mixing doors of the heating system, and it will cost $800 to fix. We had been charged a $100 deductible each time the dealer said it was fixed. Now that they have put us off all this time, our 5 year extended warranty has expired. We didn't need heat in October, so we didn't know there was the problem again this year. We only use the heat four to five months of the year. When winter comes around we expect a $40,000 car to have heat. I am 52 years old, owned many cars, and never had any problems with the heating system like I do with this car. How can some mechanisms break in that short of time, year after year unless its a produce defect or the dealer does not know how the fix the problem properly? the sales person said he has seen other Grand Cherokees with similar problems.

24 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2002

Under dash air condition/heater module melted wires and the module it self. Replace with parts it melted second time and driver side heater and air condtioner works passenger side air conditioner works but not the heater. Replaced damaged parts third time with repair kit still driver side heater air conditioner works and passenger side only air conditioner. I am afraid it is a on going problem and one day it might cought fire. In past six years I did not had a working air/heater for about three years when under waranty took it to the dealer but they did not fix it sayin it will cost me too much money.

25 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/22/2001

Jeep dealership cannot find any electrical faults which cause engine to shut off at highway speed. This has occurred two times and reported to NHTSA database. I replaced a brand new factory battery per the dealer recommendation after a full system dianogstic which revealed nothinhg. But only two weeks after the dianostic, I had to replace a daytime running lamp module; and currently the door ajar indicator light is reversed. I think Jeep has major electrical system faults which they are denying from the many complaints I am reading online.

30 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/02/2000

Latest failure is the heater blower motor block connector, this item shorted out causing the smell of burning in the vehicle. Automotive technician at the repair facility stated that they have seen this in other Jeep vehicles. He stated the problem is the connector goes from a 14ga wire on the front side(hot) to a 12ga wire to the components of the vehicle. Jeep has stated they cannot tell if the short is a manufacture related problem, and comments by service managers lead me to believe they lean toward it being a customer problem. Customer/technican assistance at the corprate level will not even investigate/inspect unless there is a flame noted, seems a little late to me!.
