Engine has a ticking noise at 158000 miles. I have changed oil routinely at dealership . I have replaced tires, tuneup, replaced a/c motor and compressor and tried to sell it so can buy a new Jeep but 3 people were concerned about engine noise. Dealership says dirt gets in motor and it will cost over 3k to fix it. I am now stuck with this car until it stops working. I am not going to be a returning customer to fca.

5 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/14/2020

The vehicle engine had a clicking/ticking noise for well over a year. We brought this issue up with the service dept and were told it was nothing to worry about. While driving home 1 night on the highway the vehicle started to hesitate/stutter and we had a problem accelerating while driving. We drove the vehicle for 20 miles at 40 mph with the hazards on i95. We found out from service the next day that the issue was a damaged camshaft due to a failed rocker arm. All rockers and lifters needed to be replaced along with the valve cover gaskets and intake seals. Since the issue occured out of warranty I was stuck with footing the whole 1961. 49 bill even though I brought the issue up with service while under warranty.

6 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/09/2020

It started out with my key fob not unlocking my car. So I decided to unlock my car manually, doing so set off the alarm and had the lights blinking and horn going off. So I then decided to order a new fob with a new battery (even though mine was new). That didn't work, so I decided to call someone to come program my fob, thinking that was the issue. So they did. It worked for about 2 weeks. Then the fob didn't unlock my car, brand new fob, brand new battery. Back to square 1, unlocking it manually dealing with the horn issue. Then, 1 day got in my car, started it and pulled in the windshield wipers, the horn went off and would not stop even after shutting off the car. It continued to be an issue and the problem couldn't be resolved. So we pulled the fuse to my horn. Now I'm driving with no horn, a hazard. Issues continued, my car now not only will the alarm still go off with flashing lights now it's not starting, it's even acted up while driving with the engine having weird spasms and accelerating. Worried because I don't know what to expect with this vehicle. I have a brand new battery and even got it tested by mechanics and they said the battery was fine. My car has huge electrical issues and the airbags apparently don't work either. But I've pulled out fuses and it sometimes reboots the car and will start normal and work for maybe a few days before acting up again. Sometimes it won't even start and make a clicking sound as if it's the battery but then after many tries or sometimes a few it'll start. This has been going on for a bit now and has just gotten worse and more worrisome.

7 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I have took my vehicle for a shifter recall. They did a programming they said and that it should have fixed the problem. I explained to Chrysler capital about how my vehicle would shift into neutral after throwing itself into other gears. I would have to turn off the vehicle and begin driving again. Now my vehicle hardly drives and the transmission makes a loud cracking noise. This recall made my transmission go out.

8 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The vehicle started making a loud tapping sound from engine at idle and while driving. Mechanic diagnosed it with bad lifters. The needle bearings in the lifters used in this engine tend to fail. The failure causes the lifter bearing to seize up and damage the camshaft. Had lifters replaced two times in a 4 month period. Camshaft replaced one time. Research on the web show several examples of this same failure in hemi 5. 7l engines. The failure can occur anywhere from 50,000 miles to over 100,000 miles. The common cause is the lifter bearings failing and damaging the camshaft. Repairs range anywhere from $3000-5000. This leads me to conclude that the failure is due to an engineering defect on the lifters by the manufacturer.

9 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/05/2019

I was driving the other day and all the sudden I hit a bump and the key fob falls out of the ignition cutting the engine completely off. So I was coasting with no engine or power. Luckily I put it in to neutral and it started back up. This could have been very dangerous. Also my key will not release when I am trying to turn the car off so I have to leave it on sometimes and it has killed my battery. Most of the time it will release after a clicking noise I can turn it to the off position and it will release. It has cost me two batteries and a new key.

My Jeep 5. 7l v8 was under extended warranty and was taken to the dealer for recall on ignition and computer flash for receiver. While there I asked them to check the ticking noise coming from my motor. I was advised this was normal for this motor and mileage(88,000). This tick keeps getting worse and I see most 5. 7s up to now still have it ,before the lifters ruin a crankshaft. Is the NHTSA going to correct this travesty or hide behind their reputation ,like the crash dummy next to this page? thank you for your time, tom decamp.

18 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/23/2016

One Saturday night I needed to run to the grocery store. When I got back into my car, it wouldn't start. It was obviously not a battery problem because there was a terrible tapping noise and vibration coming from the engine. After speaking with a mechanic about the car, I was told it is probably a dropped valve seat. Now, I am looking at over $4000 to swap an engine that was never hot-rodded or abused. After a simple search online, I find that this is a very common issue for the 5. 7l hemi engines. So much so that I have no idea why there isn't a recall or class action suit.

22 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

Several attempts were made throughout the day to start my 2011 grand Jeep cherokee and it would not start, only a clicking noise. I took it to the dealer immediately and the tipm is bad and needs to be replaced. Obviously, my car is only 3 years old and not under warranty now. The part alone is over $900. 00, which seems questionable that something would go bad so quickly on a vehicle and cost so much to repair. Besides the cost, there are so many complaints for the same issue, and even more serious with the engine cutting off while driving. Is someone going to recall this item before someone gets hurt or even killed????? I purchased this vehicle, and all my previous Chrysler/Jeep vehicles thinking they were safe for my family; now I'm not so sure. Do the right thing and recall the tipm! in addition, I have made several attempts to get the brake booster repaired due to the recall and the parts are still not in. This has been going on for months now.

23 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I had to pull the key from the ignition and reinsert the key and try to start the Jeep. After 3 tries it started and I went to drive off and as I was accelerating my Jeep did it again finally it stayed on and I was able to drive to a safe location. My Jeep sounded real strange not like normal. This is the 7 th or 8th time this has happened since I had my Jeep not even a year to date.

24 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/18/2012

A year and a half ago I was on my way back home from a half an hour drive from town when I decided to stop at my parents house to get a drink. I wasn't inside for less then ten minutes, when I went to leave my Jeep would not start at all. After a half hour later looking everything over I did notice the fuel pump fuse was melted and blown. I was asked bye american Chevrolet dealership if I had something plugged into my cigeratte lighter that could of blown it. I've been a mechanic for 11 years now and I've never known to see the fuel pump fuse ran to other components meaning interior outlets. Now a half year later I have been having problems starting my Jeep at times and having no power to the motor at all. I want to get rid of this Jeep. Now I had a recall on the nutrual safety switch and just today I get another recall for the ignition switch. I keep having axel popping sounds out of the front passenger side and I'm fed up with this Jeep.

25 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/10/2012

I bought my band new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 7 months ago - brand new from the Chrysler Jeep dealership and about a month after I bought it I started to notice the acceleration is not 100%, the windows stop rolling up or down for hours at a time at random time, the brakes sometimes don't work all the way, the engine jumps when switching gears and most recently my check engine light came on, the car would not accelerate and the rpms would not go past 1. 5 even when flooring it & there were loud clicking noises with a loud fan. This time I was not able to drive to the dealership - I had to tow it in because it was not drivable. I have taken it to the dealer ship 3 times for them to check on these things & everytime I take it in they tell me they are "unable to recreate the problems" & cannot help me. I have called numerous times to complain & report issues and they either tell me they cannot help me, they put me on hold for an infinite amount of time, I go to voicemail, or no one is available. They called me today, after having it for 4 days, and told me the check engine light was for a "evap perg system" so they replaced a hose & updated my power control module as a precaution. When I asked them how this had anything to do with my engine problems he could not explain it. When I asked him why my engine has problems he could not explain it. No one there wants to help me - what I feel like they are doing is giving me excuse after excuse in the book, stalling me for as long as they can until my warranty runs out. I have dealt with 4 managers there - the 1st one stopped returning my phone calls, the 2nd one told me I am imagining things and I should stop complaining and be thankful that I have a new car, the 3rd one pond me off onto a 4th one & the 4th one told me to my face that I am a liar and I am making up stories so the situation looks worse then it actually is.
