36 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

Jeep 2000 Grand Cherokee laredo inline 6cyl I recently experienced low coolant and oil pressure problems. I had the water pump replaced, the oil sensor switch replaced, and the oil pump replaced. The repairs were done individually in that order. I am still experiencing low coolant although the car does not seem to overheat. I recently had a pressure test and there were no leaks. When the car is started in the morning I have the proper oil pressure. As soon as the car warms up the oil pressure fluctuates and eventually activates the alert indicator (bell sound). The engine sounds fine and there are no performance problems. I brought the car back to the service station that did the repairs. The mechanic suggested that I use a heavier oil for the pressure problem. I will let you know the results. This may be the last attempt before an engine overhaul. Jeep should have a recall for these problems.

37 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited w/42,000 miles. Yes . Not a typo . 42,000, orignal owner & "scared to death" to drive this SUV. I have alot of the already problems, that have been reported. Had to pay many, w/my own cash. This SUV schould have came in 1 color "lemon yellow". It is an accident watng to happen. The recent problem is now I have no a/c-heat or defroster. Ths is due, to failure of the automatic temp control to work. I t started 1st by intermittently working, till now not working at all, this is just 1 more, to the list , of many other problems. I don't think that it is an coincidence that all my issue have happenned, almost exactly, in the order, of all the other complaints. I can't undestand how a company can get away w/this. This new problem can cost up to $2000, if it is, like previous reported problems, happens to be the "blend doors". As a handicapped driver I drive less than 4,000 miles a year. This is the only auto I drive, thus the many, many probs have yet to raise thier head. I have read almost all complaints(too many to read) this SUV schould be a "total recall, I have never heard more complaints & problems, in my life, for any automobile. This SUV schould be studied & reseached, on "how not to build an automobile. Just read the many complaints here & on the internet. We are not making this stuff up. I don't know how they stayed in business as long as they did. We, the taxpayers, bailed them out. Who is bailing out all the owners, of this "death-trap"? if that is not absurd enuff, many problems could have been repaired, by Jeep & still can. What is the purpose, of nhsta, if not to intervene? you have all the complaints. Hundreds of them. You have them posted, yet, we taxpayers/owners safety, has been at risk ever since this SUV was driven out of the showroom. How did you not make a recall on the rotor/brakes issue which was reported at 3,000 miles? I am so frustrated. Is braking problems not a safety issue? please, help us!.

38 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, with a 4. 0 liter inline 6 cylinder, and doing a bit or research I have found that is common on this car to have a overheating problem, due to cracked cylinder head which is a major job. . . To fix this problem will cost about $ 3000. 00.

39 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/08/2009

I first noticed the problem nine months ago during a long drive with the a/c running, that the condensation under the front passenger area was enough to cause a very small and slow drip of water. I have taken the car to a couple auto shops and both mechanics suspected that the drain plug was defective, yet the condensation did drain towards the outside of the car and they could not find the source of the water leak. The carpet would become soaked in the front passenger area after long drives with the a/c running. The dealer has told me it will cost roughly $1700 to get this repaired and this is too costly for me. A mechanic friend has advised that this sounds like a manufacturer defect as the car only has 54,000 miles and I've never had any other issues. This occasional drip has grown progressively worse and last week, during a 3 hour road trip, I ended up with a pool of water in the front passenger area - enough water to have to scoop it out several cups of water! that is ridiculous. I stopped at yet another auto repair shop and was again advised that this is a manufacturer defect.

40 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the seatbelts don't retract. He also experienced failures with the fog light and the cooling fan. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnostic testing with the cooling fan failure and the mechanic replaced the radiator; but, the failure wasn't corrected. Report 19961050 was filed with the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle wasn't included in recall 06v199000 engine and engine cooling: cooling system: fan and they would reimburse him for the repairs. The vehicle wasn't repaired. The failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.

41 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/21/2009

I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ 105,000 miles. I have been mysteriously losing coolant for about the last 5,000 miles and now my oil pressure is going to 0 when at idle. After checking on this online I find that this is not an isolated incident. This is an ongoing problem for many Jeep owners and some kind of recall or factory repair should be forced ASAP. This problem will inevitably lead to an engine replacement. This vehicle has had numerous problems since I bought it (2nd owner) and did all the repairs myself but this repair is a major engine overhaul and significant expense. It is a shame to have this many problems with this vehicle by so many people and being blown off by the manufacturer. This Jeep has been otherwise well maintained and in very good condition. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

42 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/27/2009

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps losing antifreeze with no visible signs of loss. Engine oils appears clean of coolant but have read several online reports where this is a common problem leading to overheating and possible loss of the engine. Something needs to be investigated towards this issue.

43 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/27/2009

My 2002 Jeep cherokee started blowing heat only on the drivers side and cold air on the passenger side. The windows were constantly fogging up making driving only possible by lowering the windows to reduce fogging. Now, I have no heat and the mechanic says it is my blower doors and that this happens to alot of Jeeps. We had to abandon the vehicle during a snow / freezing rain even last week and then couldn't drive it for the next several days due to freezing conditions. I have replaced the heater core due to fogging windows 2 years ago and the ac had to be charged constantly to stay cool. This is dangerous to drive and you freeze during cold times. I always have to make sure precip in not expected whenever we drive this vehicle during winter months. Jeep owners need help with this. . . ! now my passenger window wont go up either.

44 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/09/2009

Same thing happened to me with the air doors broke or stuck ( made of cheap plastic) . $900. 00 + to pull whole dash out and fix and replace . I had to pay that for a very known and common problem.

45 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

The air conditioning was only working on the driver's side of the vehicle only. The passenger side and the rear vents blow out warm air. The event started occurring on November 20, 2008 and is still not working properly. The vehicle is currently being repaired at a Jeep dealership and is going to cost approx. $1,200. 00 dollars. Apparently there is a problem with the vent doors and they need to replace the entire unit. The heat most likely will not work properly due to the doors not sealing properly.

46 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

The blend doors on my Jeep do not work. This is an extremely wide spread problem for Jeep Grand Cherokee's. Both a dealer mechanic, and an independent mechanic have told me the that almost all Grand Cherokees will experience this problem. There should be a recall issued - it is simply a design flaw. Unfortunately, there is no specific complaint choice on this form for heating, so people are classifying this as either visibility issues or engine cooling issues. Hopefully someone at NHTSA will find the common thread of defective blend doors - and no heat.

47 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/28/2008

The weather turned to snow and I needed the defrost/ heater. The passenger side only blows cold air. My visibility became so impaired I had to pull over and abandon the vehicle until the following day. I took it to my mechanic, the diagnosis is broken blend air door and recirculation door, estimate $1200. 00.

48 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/16/2008

My 2000 Jeep cherokee's electric fan broke and cut into the radiator. I did a search for recalls and there is a recall for this fan, but here is the real problem: the coolant fan relay switch module fails and the fan doesn't properly cool the engine, then the poorly designed head cracks between the #3 and #4 head and all the coolant seeps into the cylinder area where the coolant is burned. Then without proper cooling, it destroys the engine. (recall to replace bad heads).

49 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/14/2008

My wife was on her way home from work when the vehicle suddenly overheated. The cooling fan blades had disintegrated, blown thought the top and bottom of the fan shroud and into the radiator causing loss of coolant. The fan shroud assembly, the radiator and the engine head gasket all had to be replaced due to overheating of the vehicle.

50 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

I own a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the dual climate control and the blend doors of the heating system have failed causing cooled air out one side of the vehicle. The repair will cost anywhere from $300 (if I do it myself) up to $1500 for a dealer to fix it. This is such a huge undertaking that most if not all owners can not do it themselves. In my research I have found that around 90% of Jeep from 2000 to 2004 have this problem. This is not a small issue and the auto maker is fully aware of the failing equipment installed in these vehicles. There either needs to be a recall to correct the problem or a class action law suit against the dealer.

51 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/23/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. On April 17, 2006, the vehicle was serviced for NHTSA campaign id number 06v199000 (engine and engine cooling:cooling system:fan) regarding the electric motor driven cooling fan system. After the repair, the failure recurred three additional times. The vehicle normally overheats and shuts off. The most recent failure occurred on September 23, 2008. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The failure mileage was 27,000 and current mileage was 35,358.

52 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/18/2008

Radiator cooling fan blades broke into several pieces while I was driving. Not easily determined if the radiator was damaged. Fan is inoperable which causes the engine to overheat unless vehicle is kept in motion. Have not done a replacement yet. Chrysler is refusing to even consider covering the repair unless I pay to have their tech diagnose the problem. Chrysler will not commit to pay for any percentage of the repair until after I pay to have a tech diagnose the problem.

53 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at an unknown speed, the seat frame spontaneously failed and allowed the seat to suddenly retract backwards. The failure increased the risk of a crash. The dealer stated that the entire seat frame needed to be replaced at the cost of over $400. He is in the process of having the seats repaired. Secondly, the power windows worked intermittently. The dealer replaced the window regulators. Thirdly, he noticed that fluid from the heater coil leaked into the front passenger side of the vehicle. The manufacturer would not assume any responsibility for the repair because the vehicle exceeded the warranty. The failure and current mileages were 94,000.

54 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/24/2008

Cooling fan motor bad in 2002 Jeep grand cher. Also cooling fan blades are cracked. Called about a recall, but they said Jeep did not fall within the correct VIN # range.

55 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

56 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

Engine cooling system failure. Replaced fan clutch, thermostat and water pump. Engine still overheats at idle speed. Just over 100,000 miles.

57 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/05/2008

Driving along and low coolant light went on, then pulled over and revealed no coolant whatsoever. Replaced the coolant every few days then finally after a couple weeks took it to the radiator shop and had to have the radiator replaced.

58 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/05/2008

59 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Blend doors on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee not working.

60 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo that has multiple problems that many people have. They are not coincidental. I have the mysterious coolant loss that requires me to fill my Jeep with coolant every three days. Several mechanics have not found in leaks. However in hopes of fixing the problem, I had my water pump replaced, two days later. . . . My low coolant indicator pops up. Then my oil pressure is ridiculous going from zero to max and then making my check gauges light come on. Had the oil pressure sensor replaced because it was supposedly leaking. . . . Still having my oil pressure gauge go crazy. My a/c has ceased working as well and now the passenger rear door lock doesn't want to cooperate. I am very upset to the fact that hundreds of people are having the same problems with the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. This vehicle must be recalled! this is a link to a forum of hundreds of people having the same issues. . Read more...

61 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/28/2008

The heating/cooling system is dysfunctional and has not worked correctly since purchase in 2004, but is worse now than previously. Unable to set at one temperature and have uniform heat/cooling (depending on season). It will blow really hot, then cool, then not at all on one side and the other side is totally not insync with the driver's side (there are dual controls). Today, driving in 50f weather, control set to 71f and the air conditioner came on driver's side, nothing on the passenger side. The blend doors have been replaced in January and the water pump with thermostat have been replaced in March, and it still does not work properly. At times it becomes very hot and smells hot. At other times it is freezing cold--there doesn't seem to be any in between. . At the time of the initial service the mileage was 52000, the second time it was 55000 and now am at 59000+. Have contacted Chrysler customer service center with little satisfaction.

62 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2000 losing anti freeze and ac r134 with no obvious source of leak. Fully serviced with coolant. Anti freeze about 1/2 week. Ac about a can every two weeks.

64 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

The vehicle was running, in park position. A loud bang occurred as if someone had just hit my vehicle hard, but I felt nothing. I looked around the vehicle and did not see anything or anyone around that could have caused the loud bang. Later, I noticed the vehicle was overheating and was losing coolant. A closer inspection indicated a broken radiator shroud and a shattered fan assembly.

65 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

The passenger side heat selector never works and blows cold air out in subzero weather.

66 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

67 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/20/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact noticed that the heating and cooling system did not work. She called the local dealer and they instructed her to bring the vehicle in for inspection. While driving at an unknown speed to the dealer, she noticed freon rising from the instrument panel. As a result, other components of the engine and engine cooling system began to fail. The air conditioning and heater no longer worked. The dealer stated that not only had her blower motor and resister failed, but the heater core, evaporator core, actuator, and blend door (which no longer provided heat on the driver side of the vehicle) were corroded as well. The dealer further stated that the freon from the instrument panel originated from the evaporator core, indicating the presence of ethanol (toxic gas). The manufacturer has not offered any assistance and stated that the failures were due to lack of maintenance. Currently, the estimated cost that the contact has spent on repairs is $2,000. The vehicle is at the dealer and has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 91,000 and current mileage was 91,350.

68 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

First there was the recall on the electric radiator fan, and now consequently the heater, or blower doesn't produce hot air. . Read more...

69 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/18/2007

Dual zone climate control in Jeep Grand Cherokee blows hot air on drivers side and cold on passenger side when ac is on lowest temperature. The car has been in several times for the same problem. The dealer just replaced everything in the dashboard to fix this problem and I am having the same issue. My major concern is that as the winter approaches the windows will fog more and ice up. The inproper heating and cooling will not defrost the windows causing a dangerous situation for driving. My wife uses this car to drive my child and I do not want to risk thier safety. There are websites all over listing people with the same problem for years.

70 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/19/2007

Hvac blend door: the blend door for the passenger side has failed. I found numerous websites dedicated to similar failures for other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners. It is very apparent that this is a design problem.
