5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

Ever since the fca ecodiesel exhaust emissions update, my vehicle has had terrible turbo-lag. When you step on the accelerator, especially after a cold start it can take up to 4 seconds to actually move forward. I already reported this once before, but this vehicle is a serious hazard. Trying to cross any type of traffic is dangerous. It also has anywhere from 3-4mpg drop since the update.

8 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/20/2017

I purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee on 10/14/2017 and on 10/20/2017 on my way from droping my kid off ,coming home my car started to run sluggish so getting off the highway it caught on fire. Was there ever a recall on this car, so I look on the internet and found out that a recall involves 2005 . That the transmission fluid will get too hot cause it boil and eject some of the fluid could come into contact with a hot part of the exhaust and cause an engine according to Jeep recall Grand Cherokee over fire danger web site.

10 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the eco diesel option. At 7100 miles after oil change and refill of diesel exhaust fluid indicator on dash displayed incorrect def fluid and service def needed or vehicle will not restart in 200 miles. It took a week and 1 business day before the dealership could even look at the vehicle due to backup in scheduling. After three days at the dealership the vehicle was diagnosis with dpf convertor needed replacement, def sensor failure, def injector failure, and O2 sensor failure. And the parts would take 3 weeks just to get in. To me this is unacceptable, a vehicle with less than 10000 miles should not need this many repairs with long delay just to get parts. It seems this vehicle was not properly engineered and cannot meet emission standards long term. Plus a vehicle that will turn off and not restart at 200 miles is a danger to a consumer. Just based on an internet search I am not the only one with these problems there are numerous owners of 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with eco diesel with the same issues. And the problems are never really resolved , permanently fixed and occur again. In my opinion fca should be made to buy back these vehicle and redesigned to at least meet 80000 miles emission standard with realistic durability. The consumers should not be test subjects on a unreliable vehicle until fca comes up with fixes to very serious problems. In addition some consumers on internet site have be told to ignore engine problem indicator light warning until fca comes up with fixes.

15 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/29/2010

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My wife was picking up my kids, when the car began to shake and then overheated. I took my car the mechanic, who told me that the radiator fan was defective and had to be replaced. He told me that this was a common problem with the Grand Cherokee. I looked at your website, and discovered that there was a recall on this part, but only for certain VIN numbers. I paid $735 dollars to replace the defective part, and Chrysler/Jeep said they will not reimburse me because of my VIN number. They told me to contact the NHTSA to find out why my Jeep wasn't covered, since they had no other information for me. I know that the Grand Cherokee from 1999 to 2004 has the same exact parts and body and I don't understand why my Jeep isn't covered under the recall when this is a known problem.

16 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/24/2009

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel. Bought new, Nov. 07. At about 28k miles, on may 24, noxious fumes started coming through the a/c vents while idling, after coming to a stop. Took to dealer. They had it for 3 days, got a run around, they said Chrysler tech line said it was normal, told me to set the a/c system on recirculation. Service manager admits he smelled it but they couldn't find the problem. Called Chrysler tech line, they said the same thing also that I should take it to a dealer with better technicians. Problem is getting worse, stinks, causes eye sting. Probably exhaust fumes, smells like a natural gas leak only worse!.

17 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

Over the past three years my power windows slid down. One left rear a few years ago slid down as we were going down the road. Rt passenger side down about a year later. January 2nd my passenger side window did the same. I took it into the shop and mechanic said it was the regulator, it would be 300. 00 to fix it, he said yep that's common in Jeeps. I have a friend who has a 2002 Jeep, same problem with all four. . . . I'm a single mother, single grandmother that cant spare that kind of money. Yesterday 04/14/2009 I walked out to my Jeep to discover the window was down. Thought wow I don't remember leaving my window down because I have sound equipment I would hate to have stolen. It was chilly out that morning, tried to roll it up. . . . Guess what? now all of my power windows are broken due the regulators. Fuel pump, and injectors are my problem too. Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!! let me add the heater core to that. I love my Jeep. . . I take good care of it, it looks brand new. The oil is changed with the best money can buy and on time every time if not sooner.

While driving at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. When this occurred, the steering wheel locked up and the brakes failed to function. The dealership indicated that this was caused by an electrical system sensor failure. The consumer stated the engine light illuminated and apparently the problem was the oxygen sensor, also the monitor light on the dashboard blinked which indicated there was a rear lamp failure even though there was no failure.

24 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

25 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

1. Came out of gear when in park and crashed sustaining 5000. 00 dollars in damage. Had received a letter from daimler-Chrysler in 2002,however it was not dated stating the car could do this. No recalls were present at the time. They denied any problem when car crashed. Called an attorney who was a relative that told without a doubt (100%) the car would do this. He then called me back and stated he could not represent me because he represented daimler-Chrysler. He was hired by Chrysler after he bought a viper from them that was a lemon and he shoved it you know where and won. They realized what an outstanding attorney he was then hired him. Talk about family ethics. They finally installed the secondary detent system in 12/2008. I was told it was repaired. 2 the car is stalling at high speeds, during u turns, while at stop signs. It to dangerous to drive. Jeep keeps telling me they can not find anything on diagnostics. I was out of town 250 miles from home and they want me to drive an unsafe vehicle back to the. They have been rude, evasive and blaming me. After 500. 00 there diagnostics showed nothing. It has been to 5 other mechanics and know one has been able to diagnose the problem. I now have a 1997 Grand Cherokee limited that is loaded that is dangerous and worth nothing. 3 if they insist on arbitration and a chance to fix it you will lose. It is worth your money to hire a lemon law attorney from the very beginning.

26 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/20/2002

Exhaust manifold is cracked on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The problem seems to be common among Grand Cherokee owners. This is my third Grand Cherokee and this is the second that it has happened to. I never had the money to fix the other and sold it as is. Chrystler is admitting that the design is a failure when the replacement part has been redesigned. The Jeep service departments and other muffler repair shops notice the cracked mainifold as a common defalt and have made this repair many times. When I purchased the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had no plans for a built in cost of this magnitude (dealer cost approx. $1200. 00). I have not reserved this dollar amount to repair the Jeep in my budget and will have to live with the noise and poor performance or find an alternative way to fix it. It is my opion that the design was not sufficienctly tested for wear and should be replaced by Chrysler. I have searched for recalls and class action law suits with no success. Please provide any information that maybe helpful in providing assistance or retribution for repairs. If the research were conducted the results would more than likely show that a great precentage of Grand Cherokee's have suffered from this cracked exhaust.

27 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

While driving, heard constant noise. Took vehicle to dealer for service who stated that exhaust manifold needed to be replaced. The exhaust manifold cracks gradually and is noticeable when the vehicle is cold. Any air leak in the firewall allows exhaust fumes to enter the vehicle.

28 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/26/1999

All of the problems identified in my complaints are covered by Chrysler extended warranty. But I strongly feel Jeep is building an inferior and unsafe product which can cause serious accidents. The most notables were the (2) auto transmissions failure at freeway speed. The transmissions had to be replaced and the replacement unit was installed with a defective pump which also went out. The most recent incident is with the engine and all electrical system shuts off at freeway speed with no warning. The explaination given was a weak battery and loose battery cable. All other incidents are due to sub-standard Jeep oem parts. I wish my complaint will force Jeep to investigate why a Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 9 limited, their flagship, would failed time after time at such a young mileage. Thank you.

29 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/25/1999

Exhaust system problems, causing fumes to enter into vehicle, dealership has inspected vehicle on four occasions and can not determine failure. Mjs.

30 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/14/1999

Gas tank was replaced mid July of 1999. After that date, the "check engine" light appeared. Service department claimed that the oxygen sensor was bad and replacing the part would fix the problem. The following day, the "check engine" light appeared again. Dealership was notified, but the service department was too busy to service us in the next few days. We went down to orlando FL, where we purchased the vehicle, and they saw the car immediately. The service department's diagnosis was the same as the dealership in jacksonville, FL. Oxygen sensor was reported as bad and replaced a second time in less than a week's period. The following day, on the way back to jacksonville from orlando, the "check engine" light appeared again and the dealership was notified in jacksonville. We are scheduled to have the car service again to correct the problem. Furthermore, the car is now running rough; indicating that the light is not just a malfunction, put a potentionally serious problem.
