At about 11am, 11 September 2019, my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4-wd limited shut down on the roadway. Travel speed prior to engine failure was about 20mph. During the breakdown, the ecodiesel, 3. 0l engine stalled while making loud metallic-chattering noise. After the key-less ignition was pressed to off, a re-start was attempted but that failed. The starter motor refused to operate when re-start was attempted. Because re-start failed, the shift remained locked into park. With the vehicle locked into park, it blocked the middle of the roadway. Intervention by local police prevented further damage to vehicle and driver. There was little warning of problems prior to the engine failure. A louder-than-usual diesel rumble was reported to a Jeep service representative on 18 June 2019, but this sound was judged normal by the technician who checked the complaint. This Jeep gc had only 21,300 miles on the odometer when the ecodiesel failed. All recommended service during 2015-to-11 sept. 19 was performed through authorized Jeep dealers. A partial analysis, post breakdown, by Jeep service techs showed bottom-end engine failure with zero compression measured on one cylinder. Jeep service promised an engine replacement to return the vehicle to operation.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the engine failed to start. The only indicator illuminated on the instrument panel was the "service electric brake system". The contact also stated that the passenger side headlight blinker failed to operate. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump, body control module, and computer. The repair did not correct the failure. The vehicle was towed to Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram fiat of bay ridge (8825 5th Ave, brooklyn, NY 11209-5901) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump connector failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The contact stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
7/8/19 I brought my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for the vo8 emissions recall two days later my vehicle was returned 7/10/19. 7/12/19 I went to have my vehicle smog check completed and the smog check failed due to the following your vehicle failed the smog check inspection due to the fact the fact that the vehicles on-board computer system has not completed the emission system self-checks. during that time I had already contacted the dealership to return my vehicle to checked for possible issues caused by the vo8 emissions recall. Upon my drive from smog test to Jeep Chrysler dealership (10. 3) no warning lights came on and as I approached the dealership the oil temperature gauge did start to rise. Once parked I noticed oil dripping from the passenger front of my vehicle. The dealership service attendant plugged in the error code reader and no codes/errors were detected as if operating 100% as intended. Even though it was evident that my Jeep had catastrophic engine failure. It was determined my engine needed to be replaced due to the vo8 emissions recall and I have CO-work that experienced the same issue resulting in the engine to be replaced two days after the vo8 emissions recall was completed . The replacement engine was on back order until 8/21/19 and I may have my Jeep back 8/30/19. The repair work completed on my vehicle is not fluke and the recall work being performed is not satisfactory and possibly rushed to meet deadlines for compliance. Fca us llc , as an organization needs to look at the recall practices holistically, think about the people and their family being impacted by the v08 emissions recall short comings.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. The contact then drove to northgate Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (8536 colerain Ave, cincinnati, OH 45251, (661) 395-3005) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Two occurrences of catastrophic engine failure leaving me stranded on highway fearing for my life. First event dealer had Jeep for 5 months to "replace motor" I had to contact them several times after getting it back to obtain documentation and was told original warranty of 100k miles would be renewed. Recent second occurrence at 60k miles on new motor dealership has now had vehicle for over 2 months. Now trying to charge me for high pressure diesel pump they replaced, car still not running. Plan to replace all valves, will it run? initially it had shown so many codes they couldn't determine why the car failed. Nhtsa has over 130 complaints on this motor. Jeep fiat Chrysler awaiting govt. To sign off on emissions scandal settlement that will allow them to not have to buy back this vehicle, unlike Volkswagen who did the right thing for same issue and bought back. Unlike Volkswagen this vehicle has multiple documented defects and safety issues. I am being stonewalled by Jeep for resolution. Since my purchase of this Jeep in 10/2014 it has been in for repairs unrelated to normal use more times than I can count, over 7 months in shop while I am paying on it without being able to use it. I purchased this vehicle for reliability, it has failed that test over time. They could again replace the motor and I do not want the vehicle back, I will not again risk being stranded on the highway, engine nearly on fire after shaking, knocking, rocking, and smoking not able to turn off until it dies. I refuse to resell it to some unknowing unsuspecting person that will end up with a lemon if the dealer gets it running. This Jeep needs to be recalled immediately before someone loses their life! Jeep and the dealer service departments need to be made to stop defrauding consumers and making millions on a defective lemon. I have never had so many issues with a vehicle in my life. Help!!!.

Engine failing while driving but I was able to safely remove vehicle from the road to avoid crash. Issue is the engine rod bearing failure. Recall for same issue came out in 2011 but my VIN was not included. Nhtsa campaign id number: 11v487000.
Engine failed. The engine (5. 7l hemi) failed in middle of six lane road. Fortunately not much traffic around vehicle when engine failed. If this happened on interstate it could have a substantial safety risk. Mechanic reported the engine lost a rod and damaged the block. Since vehicle under warranty, the engine was replaced. Only 47000 miles on engine.
Valve seat dropped into #4 cylinder head on a warm restart. Vehicle was stationary & not overheated. Vehicle was at rest in a parking lot. Catastrophic engine failure followed.

The v8 engine quits running at both full speed and at idle without warning. All engine function is lost immediately. The vehicle will not restart until approximately 1 hour has past. The vehicle then operates normally until the next, unexpected engine failure. Attempt to find the issue have included the replacement of the crank position sensor, replacement of the electrical relay for the full pump, replacement of the fuel filter.

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 5 mph, the engine failed without warning and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Vehicle randomly stalls and dies at low to moderate speeds. Engine will shudder briefly and shutoff. Stalling will occur when stopped or speeds ranging from 1 to 40 mph. When vehicle stalls, electrical system will reset and power steering fails. Restart is sometimes achievable immediately, but more often takes a minimum of 30 seconds and up to several minutes. Issue seems unaffected by outside temperature or other environmental factors. Engine failure often occurs within the first 15 minutes of driving, but has occurred at greater time intervals. Spark plugs, spark plug wires, ignition rotor, and upstream oxygen sensor have been replaced, but problem persists. This has caused near accidents on multiple occasions. This issue is persistent and ongoing.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When the key was turned to the on position, the engine failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The failure recurred multiple times. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the parts for repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Daughter has driven vehicle mulitple times and car has constantly turned off in the middel of traffic on the highway and neighborhood stereets. After mutiple times, the vehicle was towed into the Chrysler dealership on June 7th with concerns that the vehicle was stalling and engine turning off. Upon the inspection of the vehicle on June 11th your service technician stated that the vehicle would need its brakes & rotors replaced in addition to the vehicle needing a new engine coil to repair the constant problem of the vehicle cutting off. Paid for the igition coil repair, vehicle still turned off. Paid for new fuel pump vechile still turned off. Not dealership is proclaining pcm board needs o be replaced. I hope that Jeep considers the danger that my child was placeecause of engine failure for my 97 cherokee.

This vehicle has recurring starting issues. At any time, cold or warm engine the ignition would engage and the engine fails to start. Service dealership has not identified any specific reason why this occurs. On January 8th, the same starting issue occurred and this time the engine light appeared. The service dealership has identified a bad cylinder head. There recommended repairs are replacement of the cylinder head and associated components. Service dealership stated the starting issue is not related to the cylinder head. They stated they would replace the fuel pump in an effort to resolve the starting issue. In discussions with Jeep customer service they stated the cylinder head issue is related to NHTSA campaign number: 11v487000. Upon reviewing this campaign it states the ?engine requires replacement?. I am not satisfied with a cylinder repair and a probable fix of the starting issue were the vehicle mileage is only 29k. I agree with NHTSA campaign requiring replacement of the engine.
This Jeep had the 4. 7l v8 engine. Jeep was running fine, never had any issues with leaking fluids, etc. Or any engine issues at all. Went to a friends house for a couple hours and when I went to leave, the vehicle started very rough and had no power - hitting the brake to change gears would stall the engine. Diagnostic testing showed no compression in the first cylinder. I was unable to pay to have my engine torn apart (keep in mind I only had this vehicle for little over a year and still owed over $1000 on something that was not driveable), but from the symptoms it seems this was caused by a dropped valve seat. I have seen numerous complaints on this issue in this engine (in Jeeps and other Chrysler vehicles) and am surprised that no recall has been made. I am unsure what would have happened if I was driving at 50 mph when the engine failed.

Complete engine failure caused the vehicle to suddenly loose all power. Upon further investigation, the piston skirt had cracked and eventually broke away causing a complete failure of the engine. Resolution was to replace the engine. This is a fairly common problem with the Jeep 4. 0 engine after the piston was redesigned around 2000-2001. Jeep should have recalled the vehicles and replaced the pistons before they started cracking and causing engine failures.

After 11/2 hours highway driving. Approaching stop light that was red. Decelerated, brakes. Light turned green when vehicle was at approx 30 mph. On attempted acceleration, engine failed, all electronics dead, no power steering. Stopped vehicle, shifted into park, turned off ignition. Turned ignition on, started engine, drove away.
The contact owns a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving 30 mph when the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure was continuous. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately seven times. There were numerous repairs performed on the vehicle pertaining to the engine failure. The repairs consisted of replacing the ignition coil, crank shift position sensor and the idle air control motor. In addition, the throttle body and fuel injectors were cleaned. The failure recurred following repairs. The failure mileage was 42,000. Updated 01/07/11.
After 2 hours of highway driving followed by 20 minutes of bumper to bumper crawl. Decelerated and hit brakes to make right turn at intersection. Engine failed, all electronics dead. Stopped, put vehicle in park, started engine and drove away.
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, engine failed, not under warranty, was not investigated as to whether it was product failure, $7,000 for a new engine, service advisor advised to scrap and get a new vehicle, an employee at dealership would purchase vehicle for $2,000 (bluebook with running engine is $15,000).
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving between 40-50 mph, the engine failed and stopped in the middle of the road without warning. The contact could not move to the shoulder of the road because the vehicle would not restart. The failure occurred at least three times. Once the vehicle was towed to the dealer, it started back up normally. The cause of the failure could not be determined. The failure mileage was 26,000.
The unit will cut off for no reason while sitting stopped. It has happened several times. I took the unit into the c/d/j dealer and was told that they could not find a fault code. Said that I needed to pay for the 30k service. I refused, unless they put in writing that the such said service would stop the engine failure. They refused and I advised that this issue is not the only one that they heard about. Needless to say, they called the police on me! Jeep. . . . The new name needs to be "joke".
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has engine failure when there is a rapid decline in engine rpm. Most often when getting off of the freeway and coasting to an intersection, or when making a turn in an intersection and lifting off the gas pedal. Engine dies and the vehicle shuts down causing a loss in power steering and all power. This causes vehicle to not be under control and veer into undesired lanes, curbs, and various locations due to having sudden loss of power steering and engine power.

Dt consumer stated the engine failed on September 16, 2005, the oil pressure dropped to zero while on a hill, all types of noise came out of the engine. Consumer stated they had the vehicle towed to a dealer, and dealer said there was sludge build up inside the motor. Consumer a has used the proper oil as stated in the owners manual. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, they said there was nothing they could do. They claimed it was not from changing the oil at Chrysler. However, consumer stated they had records for the oil changes at their local mechanic.
I was driving on interstate 68 in maryland when engine failed. Douglas motors a member of the Chrysler group informs me the engine failed due to sludge. Engine oil has been changed every 3000 to 5000 miles with 5w 30. Chrysler offers no help except I should of taken the extends warranty.
The contact owns a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated the engine failed to start after several attempts. The battery was jump started and the vehicle began to function normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times for the identical malfunction. The bcm was replaced twice at different times and the problem continued to occur. The approximate failure mileage was 58,896. The VIN was unavailable.
Debris accumulated in the #3 piston and caused engine failure. We had a 4. 7l engine. This recall is for 4. 0l but it also happens on the 4. 7l. This particular model, the 2001 grand Jeep cherokee. You can only replace the engine with the same model and year, making it expensive and hard to find.
While driving at 65 mph engine failed. As a result, power steering and brakes malfunctioned. Took vehicle to mechanic but they couldn't find anything wrong. Two hundred miles later, the same thing, nothing was found. At 6133 miles it happened again. Consumer took vehicle to another mechanic. Three different mechanics and no one could find anything. Problem still exist.
Brakes keep failing. Shortly after purchasing the car in 1999 I returned to the dealer complaining about heavy brake pulsation at 30mph. They told me they fixed it but it continued doing it. I kept going back over and over again. The last time I went back was 3 weeks ago, and they again changed the brakes with newly designed brakes which supposedly would have fixed the problem. The dealer said they wouldn't cover the back brakes b/c they had no complaints about it and that I didn't need to change them. I drove away but the car still pulsates heavily as soon as I brake if I am driving over 20mph. Furthermore my car's engine broke down completely after 32000 miles or approximately 7 months ago. They told me the engine failed b/c I didn't change the oil for 10,000 miles. The mechanics report stated that there was water in the fuel, but they still told me it was my fault for not changing the oil. I was out of warranty b/c more than 36 months had gone by from the date of purchase. Chrysler agreed to substitute the engine and I had to pay $800. I don't understand how a new car, driven for such little mileage (now only 35,000 miles after almost 4 years) can have all these mechanical problems. I believe the breaks are faulty and am not sure how to further deal with the problem. The car dealer keeps telling me it's perfectly safe to drive.
