1 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/25/2019

The 2001 Jeep just came to a stop while it was being driven on the highway. It had always had engine issues. The front wheel suspension on the passenger side of the 2001 Jeep cherokee laredo is bent and while driving it on the street or highway it causes the vehicle to pull to the left and is unstable when driving it on a highway or street. The engine has a knocking sound whenever it is running. The brakes to the vehicle has been slipping and making a grinding noise while driving it. Sometimes the Jeep doesn't want to drive over 70 mph when driving in the highway or street. We have had to replace the brakes because they started smoking while driving on the highway. There is electrical issues with the car as well where the radio doesn't play as well as other electrical parts don't work. My 2001 Jeep has stopped while my husband was driving it on the highway and it is not drivable. I have had to replace the ignition coil and spark plugs many times for many years. There has always been a water leak on the passenger side dripping whenever the car is in motion, coming from the dashboard onto the carpet since the car was purchased. There may be other issues with the 2001 Jeep that I have missed.

2 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

Engine shuddered and stopped while in park. Tried to restart, but would not start (electrical was fine). Had it towed and fuel injector replaced. Drove for approximately 75 miles and acceleration ceased on busy highway at 70mph. When able to pull over and stop, would not go into park (even though shifter indicated that it was in park). Dashboard indicated that my speed was too high to shift (I do not recall the full message) and it began to roll backwards into traffic. I turned it off and it stopped rolling. Tow truck said he had difficulty putting it in neutral. Prior to failure to accelerate, there was a heavy rumbling sound when gas pedal pushed; then it sounded like small parts were falling off of the engine; then grinding sound but no acceleration. I saw a brief message about 4wheel drive, but was trying to get to safety, so I do not know what it said. I had a passenger and toddler in the car. Frightening!.

4 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

I am now going on my 3rd incident with this problem! I lose all lights and gauges on my dashboard. Heat turns off and most importantly, my ignition turned off on me and made a grinding sound and I had to pull over. Each time I had cars behind me and thankfully neither I nor the car behind me were injured. All the lights flicker and gauges go all the way down to where I can not tell how fast I am going. My most recent incident was on February 28th, 2015, I was at a stop sign and when it was my turn to go my lights flickered for a second then all gauges went down and the grinding started, it was as if I was trying to drive on neutral, so I then moved to the side because I had a car behind me and the car stopped. I shut it off completely and waited a few minutes before turning it back on. I drive on the expressway 60 miles a day to and from work, I am scared of causing an accident. I took my car previously to auto zone to see why my engine light is on and they checked it and gave me a code of u1411. I looked it up and it has to do with the ignition recall that was sent to me about my car. I have also called a few dealers to see if the part is in and was told no. I have a 5 year old daughter and I'm scared to have her in the car with me because of this! I need for something to be done ASAP!.

6 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

Vehicle began presenting with grinding noise upon start up (similar noise to turning the key in older vehicle once engine was running). Brought to dealer's attention at time of service - dealer could not duplicate grinding noise. Within a few weeks, vehicle began taking more than 1 attempt to turn engine over (sometimes up to 4-5 attempts), including prolonged engagement of starter motor. If multiple attempts, noticed rich fuel smell. Mentioned to dealer at time of next scheduled service - dealer could not duplicate starting problems over the course of 2 days in their care. Dealer said to wait for more frequent occurrences to begin then they would check again. Starting issues were intermittent and continued to occur until last week, where after "hard start," vehicle engine stalled while in reverse pulling out of parking spot (<5 mph); however, power to lights and radio remained on; steering locked up, and had to push vehicle to safe spot. Took 2 starts to get engine running again. Next day, after 4 failed starting attempts (5th successful), had battery tested and replaced day after thinking it could be part of problem (starter and alternator tested fine). The day after battery replacement, vehicle produced what sounded like abnormal start, then engine stalled while in motion under 5 miles per hour. Based on evidence and prior reports, faulty tipm is suspect. We are fortunate that both stalls occurred under 5 mph; it is only a matter of time before this happens at highway speeds. Hoping the NHTSA will force Chrysler's hand into opening formal investigation into faulty electrical systems in vehicles.

7 Engine Grinding Noise problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/28/1998

The bulk of the problems the car has were recognized before 583 miles. The engine stalls when driving in stop and go traffic. The problem seems to be magnified if the car goes from high speeds to an idle . The car begins to idle below 500rpm and then dies. After being in to reprogram several times, now the vehicle is hard to start, it takes from 5-10 seconds to start. The car has transfer case problems that make the car shudder at low speeds when turning. Trying to fix that issue created a leak from the transfer case. The car also has a hollow grinding noise or resonance at 1200rpm in 1st gear while under a load. The car has been serviced six times. These issues still remain.
