Whilst driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee (equipped with the Mercedes Benz common rail diesel (crd) 3. 0 l engine) on I-410 at highway speed, the engine suddenly stopped, without any warning. This also made the power brakes and power steering inoperative. Today, the dealer tells me that this is caused by a faulty crankshaft position indicator sensor and is a fairly common occurance. I should think this is a design flaw and should be corrected by the mfg.

While parallel parking, with my right foot on the brake pedal, I shifted the automatic transmission out of reverse. Immediately the engine rapidly revved up and lurched forward. I pressed more firmly on the brake, causing the car (a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee) and motor to pause, then the motor rapidly revved up again, overcoming braking. Horrified, and unable to stop the car, I watched as the car raced into the vehicle ahead of me. Immediately after the impact, the engine returned to normal idle. I then checked the car: cruise control was off, my hands were still gripping the steering wheel in order to provide additional leverage for my foot on the brake pedal, my right foot was still firmly in the middle of the brake pedal and not near the accelerator pedal, and the gear shift lever was in neutral. The vehicle ahead of me sustained damage to its bumper and tailgate. This is the 4th time this has happened with this vehicle, the first two of which were reported to you earlier. In all three earlier cases, I was able to barely avoid an accident, but not this time. As noted earlier, the Jeep mechanic was not able to find any causative problem.

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel 4x4. Power loss, hesitation, mostly happens at low speeds and gets progressively worse. The vehicle idles fine, then when you step on the accelerator to move out into traffic it sputters and doesn't proceed as expected. Very serious safety issue especially since the computer sees no codes so the dealer doesn't know where to start looking. It doesn't do it all the time and it's impossible to determine when it will do it.

Noticed in fall of 07 that the oil pressure was dropping to zero when the vehicle warmed up. Check gauges light would come on. In winter 07, started having to refill the coolant. I had the coolant checked and the dealership said there was no problem. Recently had trouble starting the engine and took it to a local repair shop. Shop technician said my engine is going to blow and should replace it ASAP. Unacceptable! I followed every oil change religiously!.
The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While making a left turn at 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle would not stop when the brakes were depressed. The contact was finally able to decelerate and turned the vehicle off. The failure was due to the throttle cable becoming stuck. The vehicle operated normally once the throttle cable was released. The vehicle was driven to a repair shop where it is currently being diagnosed. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 33,010.
While I was sitting at a red light today I was completely stopped with my right foot on the brake. I felt the Jeep Grand Cherokee surge. I looked at the tachometer and the needle shot upwards and I had to really stand on the brake to keep the SUV from moving. I slipped the transmission into neutral to eliminate the surge on the brakes and the engine whinnied and then idled down. I immediately made an appointment at my dealership for Friday April 20, 2007. Third incident. I am well aware of sudden acceleration syndrome where it is believed drivers are stepping on the brake but really applying the gas. I was already sitting still and my foot never moved from any pedal so this theory is eliminated.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While approaching a stop at approximately 5 mph, the vehicle completely shut off. The contact had to place the vehicle into park in order for it to restart. The failure occurs most frequently when making left turns. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times, but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The current mileage was 18,500 and failure mileage was 15,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While coming to a stop, the vehicle hesitated as if it would shut off. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, the gears shifted and the engine or transmission jumped. The failure occurred every time the vehicle was driven. The vehicle is currently being repaired by an authorized dealer. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 23,000.
Bought Grand Cherokee brand new, started leaking from two areas immediately. First service department told me there were no leaks, after numerous complaints fixed one leak, still refuses to acknowledge second leak.
Since purchased in 3/06, 2004 gc v8 while idling, repeatedly dies, or nearly dies but recovers only to cause a lurching forward if in gear. Will die in gear or in park and I am able to start it again right away. Dealer, after three tries cannot find anything wrong. May go two weeks without happening, may happen twice in one day.
200 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 98000 miles engine surges on start and when idling. Surge rises to 2500 rpm falls to 1500, rises to 2000 etc until it reaches 700 rpm normal idle. When in operation the surge occurs and would move the car forward if brakes are not applied. Surge can also be felt when decelerating and braking. Intermittent but persistent problem for start up and operation. Does not occur often enough or for long enough periods to catch on diagnostics. If gears engaged when in high idle it squeals rubber even with brakes applied.
: the contact stated while the brake pedal was depressed, the tires felt square and there was an excessive stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined the rotors were warped. The rotors and pads were replaced. The brake rotors have been replaced three times, but the problem persisted. The cranksahft position sensor was replaced. The consumer stated he could feel the transmission shudder. Updated 03/22/06.
Repeated accident's of my vehicle going from idle (1000 rpm) to 1500-2000 rpm while vehicle stopped and in gear. Requires significant effort to prevent vehicle from surging ahead. Has occurred when vehicle is entering street from driveway, at a pedestrian crosswalk and at a traffic light. Local dealer placed monitor in car and it recorded four instances in a month. Damiler-Chrysler engineering claims no vehicle problem, driver is supposedly stepping on both accelerator and brake. This is not correct, both driver in our family have experienced problem. Car is unsafe.
Vehicle experiences a shuddering, hesitation or bucking motion when driving around town 20-30 mph and also on the highway. Taken to blevins brothers in ogdensburg, NY and had e13 recall completed. Problem continued. E-mailed Chrysler customer relations about problem and told the info I was requesting was "either proprietary or unavailable". Also made a phone call to Chrysler customer relations and had them note additional complaint regarding problem. Blevins brothers service manager arranged for vehicle to be taken by a technician to a daimler Chrysler school for evaluation by course instructor. He agreed there was a problem and suggested replacement of torque converter as water may have damaged unit prior to e13 recall completion. Torque converter was replaced. Problem continued and became worse due to fall and winter temperature drop. Was advised by blevins brothers to call Chrysler customer relations and have them open a claim on the vehicle. Chrysler refused to open cair claim and told me I should contact dealer. They also told me there was a booklet in the glove compartment I should read. The booklet referred to provided info about state lemon laws. Dealer said Chrysler has told them this is a characteristic of the vehicle and there is no fix for it nor is any planned. A chrylser engineer (gary vleck) says they haven't had any other complaints. He refused to come to the dealership to drive the vehicle. I feel this a flaw in the mds (multi-displacement system) that regulates whether there are 8 or 4 cylinders in operation. I also feel Chrysler is trying to stonewall the problem by telling customers that this is how their vehicle is supposed to operate. They are hoping customers will not take it any further and give up. This mds engine is also present in magnums, chargers, 300s, durangos, commanders and 06 rams. It would be interesting to see if this problems exists with these vehicles.
1 month after buying my Jeep it died out at a stoplight. Dealer could not find anything wrong with car. A month after getting it back, it died 2 more times at stoplights. I took it back to the dealer who said the computer needs to be replaced. Now waiting for the new computer which will take a week to get here. Hopefully this will correct the problem, but I've seen many of the same complaints from other people on this site.
Sudden loss of power on three occasions. While driving at highway speeds, vehicle instantly looses all power. Obvious problems navigating to shoulder on multilane highway in traffic. Could easily be stranded in lane. Difficulty steering. Requires towing. Has occurred three times in last two years, twice in last month. First time, replaced computer. Second time, replaced transmission sensor. Third time, undetermined.
While driving at 60 mph the consumer heard a loud bang and saw black smoke coming from the engine compartment. The consumer blindly pulled over to the shoulder and called the fire department. The front end was consumed by the fire, but no injuries were reported.

When the consumer applied the brakes, the vehicle stopped slowly with pulsation. The surging has occurred many times since owning the vehicle. The consumer found that the rotors were out of round. The front rotors warped in the first 10k miles. The dealer suggested that the problem was form the heat from non-asbestos pads.
Factolry= "lemon" left the factory; minus headgaskets!!! possible "firetrap"!!!.

Vehicle not running properly. It lost compression. Mechanic replaced cylinder in engine.
The vehicle failed in fairborn, ohio. The vehicle was towed to two different Jeep garages prior to being diagnosed as a failure of the cam sensor gears. The tech assigned to evalulate the problem indicated this is the second failure of this type he has seen in two weeks. This failure causes you to lose all engine power, ie power steering and power braking!. The dealership also indicated that the parts needed for this repair are on a "national backorder" and it could take 1 week or more to obtain the repair parts.
Faulty head gasket . . . #3 cylinder cracked.
