3 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/22/2017

"takata recall" driving to work my car made a loud whistling noise and the battery light came out. I let it sit during work and after work I started it up. I then hopped in and while driving I noticed a burning smell coming into the truck and it was smoking from the hood at a stop light. I proceeded home and the smoke was now inside the car. My baby cousin was in the car and he began coughing, that's when I looked over and noticed it was very smoky in the car. I kept driving home (the street way) rolled the window down slightly for ventilation and noticed that my parking sense light came on. At the next light, my abn light came on along with the check engine light, and several other lights. That began to scare me and I knew it wasn't just my battery. The next time I took my foot off of the brake the smoke from the hood increased as well as in the car. The windshield wipers began going crazy, and I could tell that the car wasn't letting me use the gas anymore and the wheel began to lock up. This really made me nervous because it was extremely hard to turn it. At this point im panicking and causing traffic. Pulling into a safe location, the wheel was completely locked at this point and even pushing the brake was hard. After coming to a complete stop the car wouldn't let me put it in park, then the vehicle just shut off. The smoking continued for a few minutes but I jumped out as soon as it came to a stop. Luckily I took another route home or else I would have been on the highway when this happened. I then called aaa and waited outside to get the truck towed. It took them 25 minutes to come after a 5 minute phone call requesting their services. I got my belongings out of the truck and it still smelled like burnt smoke even after waiting with the window cracked. I don't have pictures, I have videos.

4 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

I was driving down the road, with my foot steady on the gas, and the transmission shifted hard (8 speed automatic) and lunged my car forward without any pressure on the gas pedal. Then it continued to shift hard and lunge until I reached and maintained 40 mph ( in which my Jeep put the transmission into 8th gear at a steady 1000 rpm). This has happened multiple times since, and sometimes when I remote start the Jeep, it will give off a very loud high pitched whining sound for about a minute, then stops.

5 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

This is the second time in six months that I have had a major problem with my key fob affecting my engine. I am afraid this may be an ignition switch problem but the dealer keeps telling me it's the key fob battery. The first time my car would not start and the engine was dead. They replaced both key fobs 6 months ago and told me they were defective. This time when I pushed the button the engine made a screeching rattling sound, the engine light came on and the car would not turn off. Eventually it did and I tried it again and the same thing happened. The car was towed 30 miles to the dealer and they told me the key fob battery needed to be replaced. I asked the service technician if their computer showed that my engine light came on and he agreed but told me that they could not find the problem, other than the key fob battery. I told them both key fobs were new. I have only had this car for 3 years and it only has 11,605 miles on it. How on earth can a key fob cause engine problems? I may not be an expert on cars but I'm not stupid. I believe it may be something to do with the ignition. I hope Jeep fixes this before there are any accidents or deaths. I now feel I am forced to purchase an extended warranty for over $2,100. 00 because I'm afraid of what might happen when my factory warranty expires next month. I don't think I would ever buy a new car again. The old ones seem more reliable. I am afraid to drive this car now, knowing it has electrical issues that the dealer can't seem to find the reasons why. Key fob battery? I find this very hard to accept. I would like the old key ignition - I don't trust these push button ignitions. My 2011 Jeep is still at the dealer but they have told me it's ready for pick up.

6 Engine Rattling And Whining Sounds problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

The vehicle was parked and I attempted to start the vehicle. The car was operating properly 3 minutes prior to attempted starts. The first attempt, the engine fired up and revved up but immediately died. Subsequent attempts were similar. After about 4 or 5 attempts, there was a large rattling noise and the engine became impossible to start. After towing the vehicle to a mechanic and having them open up the engine, we found that the valve seat had dropped out from the cylinder heads and must have caused the engine to operate incorrectly. The valve seat had shattered into many tiny pieces, which most likely caused the rattling noise. Upon investigation I have found that the valve seat dropping out is a common issue on the 5. 7l hemi engine in my Jeep as well as other vehicles manufactured by Dodge and Chrysler. This is unsafe and should require the immediate action of Chrysler to recall these vehicles and permanently fix the problem with their valve seats.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 65th anniversary edition: 15 days off the lot when while driving 15-20 mph engine completely died. I could not steer to the side of the road. There were no warning lights or any indication of a problem. Dealership diagnosed "major internal engine failure" and replaced with new engine. About 4 months later rattling sound turned out to be catalytic converter that needs to be replaced. Still waiting for the part. SUV still does not drive 100%.
