While driving the passenger active head restraint deployed due to failure of the plastic retainers striking my wife in the back of her head. Thankfully she was not injured. But it startled us not knowing what happened until we were able to pull over and check. This clearly could have caused an injury or accident and these defective headrests should be recalled and replaced immediatly.

While driving on the turnpike, the passenger headrest deployed with my son sitting in the seat. There was absolutely no reason for why. It was an insane shock to the back of his head.

My drivers side headrest deployed and the plastic parts are broken so it won't go back into place. I wasn't in an accident. This happened while I was driving the car and it hit me in the head when it deployed.
The headrest on the driver seat of my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee popped open while I was parked in the garage.

While in park, the driver headrest deployed into the back of my head. No collision took place, it randomly deployed. It will not reset as it seems a plastic bracket broke inside. No recall for this issue but when researching the problem, it seems to have affected a large group of 2011-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners.
I was sitting in the driver's seat the vehicle was off and parked and the active headrest deployed out of nowhere. I was struck in the back of the head and suffered a concussion, neck and shoulder injury and whiplash.
Driver's side headrest popped open and will not latch back in place. Was not driving at the time but this could have been dangerous had it popped opened during vehicle operation. Vehicle was parked in my garage and I was in the garage and heard a loud noise, did not know what it was at the time, but I thought it came from the car. So I opened car door and looked around inside car but did not see an obvious reason for the noise. The next morning when I got in the car, I noticed the headrest was touching the back of my head uncomfortably so I turned around and that is when I noticed that it was popped out. Tried to close and secure it back in place but it will not stay. I am now driving around with it popped open.
While car was being swept out at car wash, drivers side headrest deployed for no apparent reason. A part of the headrest broke releasing it.
Headrest pop open out of nowhere after I parked the car in my driveway and was preparing to take off my seatbelt.
There is a known potential problem of the inadvertent deployment of one or both of the front seat active head restraints. This can cause a concussion and can cause the driver to loose control of the vehicle after being struck in the head. The cause is a cheap plastic pin that is under constant pressure and has deteriorated over time and release without warning. This known potential problem has not happened to me yet. But Jeep (fca) issued a warning and extended the warranty but has not yet issued a recall to fix the potential problem. They are only fixing this if it has deployed, leaving all other customers worrying and waiting for a potential hit to the head anytime while driving. There already is a class action suit against fca in florida.
Drivers side headrest deployed for no reason while driving.
Passenger headrest deployed on its own with the car parked and engine off. I can see a plastic clip that is broken that normally holds a metal pin in place to keep the headrest in place.
The headrest on my 2015 Jeep cherokee inadvertently deployed on the passenger side. Inspection of the headrest shows the plastic bracket holding the metal pin is broken and yet the holding clamp is not released. The headrest cannot be reset. The vehicle was stationary when this occurred. I am very concerned after reading other incidents where this can occur on the driver side as well while the car is in motion. You need to something about this before someone, like me, gets killed.
The passenger side headrest deployed. The vehicle was sitting still. I did receive a letter for a recall. I misplaced the letter. Can I get another so when I take it to the dealer I can present it to them so they know what is going on. Thank you.
Driver's side headrest trim visibly detached from backside. Noticed while parked in driveway. First, noticed tether hanging out from the top. Then, with a flashlight, I looked into the inside and see what looks like plastic brackets broken from the metal anchor point on top. I asked my wife (her vehicle) if she was in any accident and she said no. Doing research online, I found that this active head rest (ahr) trim is supposed to compress a spring and clip onto metal anchor. But this plastic is sheared off. Others have had this problem and there is a class action lawsuit commencing for this issue. My wife now cannot safely drive her vehicle due to headrest spontaneous failure. How is she supposed to use her vehicle?.
In this case, the vehicle was stationary or starting to move in reverse to hook a trailer. As I lightly put my hand on the passenger front headrest, it sprung forward. There was not a collision at the time of the event and no one currently sitting in the seat, although, a person was sitting there just a few minutes before this happened. Upon further inspection, I see the plastic of the inside of the headrest that hold a rod to keep it attached had broken apart. This should only happen during an accident.
The vehicle was stationary, the door was opened, then my right passenger headrest popped forward and out before the passenger sat down with little to no motion other than the door opening.
The passenger seat head restraint deployed and was not involved in an accident and was stationary when it deployed.
Vehicle was stationary when I noticed the active head restraint was deployed. When I inspected it I noticed a clip that holds a metal pin that keeps the head rest in place was broken. There is no way to reset it because of that. I believe the clip broke because its to thin and under all that pressure trying to keep the head rest in place, it gives out and breaks.
Defective active headrest - active headrest deployed while vehicle was sitting in driveway. Plastic components broken which hold active headrest.
Head restraint deployed without a rear end collision or any other moving event my wife was simply loading the dog into the car as it was sitting in parking lot at vet office.
Sitting at a stoplight the driver side head restraint exploded. Car was not moving. Was on a city street.
I was on I-95n at approximately 65mph in north carolina on 11/26/2021 when my wife and I heard a loud mechanical crash sound. My wife was sitting in the passenger seat and had been hit in the head by the headrest that had ejected randomly. There was absolutely no reason why the headrest should have deployed.
Vehicle was in motion. I was driving on a city street when my passenger headrest popped out of place. Unknown. I had no collision or was no bumpy road conditions. The plastic part holding the headrest together looks to be broken. Im afraid my driver side headrest might pop open when driving on the highway and hit me and cause a collision.
My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 4x2 active head restraint (ahr) headrests manufactured by grammer ag suffer from a defect. Fca us and grammer ag's active head restraint is meant to spring forward in the event of a rear-end collision to catch a vehicle occupant's head to prevent whiplash, the feature has deployed without warning or external force from a collision, and forcefully struck the back of my passenger's (wife) head while we were in motion. The force of the impact to the back of my vehicle passenger's (wife) head and without warning or cause while the vehicle is in operation. She was initially startled and we did not know what had happened. Then we discovered the broken headrest. Later, my wife experienced a headache and neck discomfort over several days. I have seen several lawsuit documents online filed by other Jeep owners who state the cause of the defect as the failure of a cheap plastic component inside the defendants ahr. Specifically, the feature contains a plastic bracket that acts as the triggering mechanism and holds the feature's spring-loaded release in place until a sensor signals that the vehicle has been hit in its rear, the case explains. As a cost-saving measure, the plaintiffs say, Chrysler and grammer ag designed the ahr bracket with an inferior and inexpensive form of plastic that can crack and break down prematurely due to the 75 pounds of constant pressure applied by the ahr's springs onto the bracket. I may have missed it, but I have only seen a recall for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee headrests. I would like the parts on these headrests replaced. Not sure if the same defect also exists on rear passenger seat headrests.
I thought somehow I broke my headrest and didn't realize. But when I went to look it up and to my surprise I see hundreds of people with he same exact issue. Car was not moving and was parked behind my business, came back to the headrest deployed. Surprised Jeep hasn't recalled this yet seems like a major issue, can't even imagine if someone was sitting and it exploded.
My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland randomly had the driver headrest pop out of place and hit me in the back of the head while I was parked in my driveway.
My vehicles driver headrest popped open, exposing the inside of the headrest, randomly without coming into contact with anything that would've caused the incident.
Passenger headrest deployed on its own.
Shortly after I turned right, while leaving a parking lot at low speed, out of the blue I was forcefully hit in the back of my head. I pulled over in confusion to assess what had happened. There were no flying objects in the car, nor other cars behind me, as I briefly wondered if I had been rear-ended. Upon leaving my vehicle, I immediately saw that the headrest was split open, and was the cause of the hard smack on the head.
The driver's side headrest popped open for no reason. There had been no collision. On inspection of the release mechanism it's apparent that the plastic piece, retaining a pin, broke and caused the headrest to release and pop forward. The vehicle was stationary (parked in parking lot) when this happened. Had someone been driving this would have caused an injury.
The vehicle was stationary in the driveway and I was getting out of the car when I heard a loud pop and I looked over and saw that the headrest had deployed out of nowhere.
I was getting ready to leave, the vehicle was parked when I heard an extremely loud pop noise! I thought it was an accident or something had smacked into my car until I realized the loud noise came from the headrest popping completely open! I am very grateful that I wasn't driving at the time as this surely could have caused accident and or injury or both.
The headrest popped out while the car was parked in our driveway. The plastic in the headrest appears to be broken.
