Fiat Chrysler automobiles (fca) issued a recall for the ram 1500 ecodiesel, model year 2014-2019, for potential fires. Their recall states that the emissions gas re-circulation (egr) cooler can develop cracks and there is risk of an engine fire and potential for injury resulting. Fca goes on to state that injuries have occurred as a result of this particular engineering or manufacturing fault. My vehicle, the 2014 Grand Cherokee, was purchased with the optional 3. 0l v6 turbodiesel engine, the "ecodiesel. " this is the identical engine to the ram and possess the same egr and egr cooler, as well as the same intake manifold, which is where the fires have seemingly occurred. The Jeep Grand Cherokees, model years 2014-2016, that utilize the optional ecodiesel engine were not named in the same recall, nor in any subsequent recalls from fca, and the risk of fire should be identical between the two vehicles. I am only assuming that the reason the Grand Cherokee was excluded, was because it was sold far less frequently with the ecodiesel engine option. If the ram 1500 was recalled for a fire and injury risk, the Jeep Grand Cherokee that's powered by the same engine (and the same fire risk) should also be included under the same recall. It's concerning that a manufacturer admits significant health and safety risks due to a particular engine, but only includes one model that utilizes this engine. I do understand that this was a voluntary recall, but I believe that both vehicle models should be included under this recall, since it relates to the engine, not the specific vehicle utilizing it.

Vehicle overheated and spewed all coolant. Several dealer visits, replaced egr, manifold, cylinder heads, hoses, thermostat etc. One occasion fuel was dripping into the engine compartment after repair and the engine compartment was smoking. Another occasion the manifold was smoking. It's only a matter of time before one catches fire. These are suvs used to haul families.
My vehicle has stalled twice with my children in the car due to the listed recall in which Chrysler has already replaced once! this did not fix the problem and is currently at the dealer again for diagnoses because I am scared for my life to drive this vehicle. Can you please help! I was in motion going 55 miles an hour in the fast lane when the vehicle stalled for no reason. The Jeep service tech has linked it back to the same fuel relay and this could be a fatal problem if not fixed. Please I have three kids and myself that could be injured if this is not addressed ASAP!! Chrysler is recalling 188,723 2011 Dodge durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee suvs in the u. S. Because of a defective fuel-pump relay inside the power module that can cause the vehicles to "stall without warning," according to the national highway traffic safety administration. The suvs are equipped with either a 3. 6-liter v6 or 5. 7-liter v8 engine. "in the affected vehicles, the fuel-pump relay inside the totally integrated power module may fail, causing the vehicle to stall without warning," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "a vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash. " this is part of a global recall of an estimated 230,760 Chrysler suvs, including 15,898 in canada, 7,126 in mexico and 19,013 outside the nafta region. Chrysler said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall. It added that no other vehicle functions, including airbag deployment, are affected by the fuel-pump relay. The affected suvs were built from January 5, 2010 to July 20, 2011. Dealers will replace the fuel-pump relay with one external to the totally integrated power module. The recall is expected to begin on October 24. Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Oil was constantly running low, and on 2 occasions was found to be empty, even after oil changes. No signs of leaks or oil burning, so I assumed the dealership screwed up. Over the summer, the condensation from the a/c was leaving stains on my driveway, but still no signs of oil. A google search of a/c condensation water stains for my Jeep revealed that the engine oil cooler might be the cause. Sure enough, an inspection revealed oil sitting around the oil cooler. I took it to pellegrino Jeep and they confirmed the oil cooler had cracked and needed to be replaced. The repair cost me a little over $1000! unless Jeep redesigned this part, I will eventually experience another out of warranty failure. When Jeep was contacted, they did not provide any help since my vehicle had 73k miles on it and was out of warranty. My contention is that there really is no way to determine how many miles were on the vehicle when the part failed. Its a known fact that Jeep changed the design of the part from metal to plastic. The consumer should not be responsible for Jeeps engineering errors. I'm fearful that my engine may have suffered irreparable damage, causing premature failure.
I removed the key fobik before Jeep was put in park and engine was still running. Discovered at slow speed in parking lot. There was a recall by Chrysler/fca safety recall k08 wireless ignition node receiver but fca claims my VIN was not part of the recall. However this is the exact problem that this Jeep is experiencing. Recall states "the frequency operated button integrated key (fobik) may be removed prior to placing the automatic transmission gear shift lever in the park position. This could result in unintended vehicle movement and cause a crash without warning. " fca also says "recalls are VIN related, where manufactured and when manufactured. Recall k08 does not involve your vehicle" this vehicle can be in gear with the engine running and the key removed resulting in unattended vehicle movement. Very unsafe.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving, the engine shut off without warning. The contact was able to guide the vehicle to the shoulder. The vehicle was taken to yark Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram fiat (6019 central Ave, toledo, OH 43615, (419) 877-7712) where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced at 95,000 miles. The failure recurred, but the contact had not been able to reach the dealer again. The contact researched the failure and found that the totally integrated power module failed. The vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 97,000.
Driver side air conditioner blows hot air even when temp is set as low as 63 degrees while the passenger side works normally. Service rep at dealership informed me that this is a common problem with Jeep vehicles. Was told repairs could be over $1000. If Jeep knows that this is a reoccurring problem, why should I have to pay for their error?.
The egr cooler failed, allowing hot coolant to be directed into the intake manifold. The hot coolant caused the premature failure of internal mechanical components in the intake manifold and sever thermal damage to the intake manifold. The intake manifold, egr cooler, and other fuel components were replaced at owner's expense. Other owners experiencing this failure have encountered fires in the engine bay due to the excessive heat applied to the composite intake manifold. This failure is typically undetected until a significant loss of coolant has occurred, or the intake manifold is damaged enough to cause a malfunction detected by the computer. The ram 1500 model that uses this engine already has a recall for the egr cooler. This recall should be extended to the Jeep Grand Cherokee models as well.
Squeeling on every start up. Hard shifting several complaints. Chrysler has issued a service bulletin #07-002-15 rev. A to address a screeching noise on startup, or more specifically an idler pulley noise during cold start on the vehicles listed below: 2014 2015 Jeep cherokee 2011 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 2014 Dodge durango 2011 2014 Dodge charger 2011 2014 Dodge challenger 2011 2014 Chrysler 300 2011 2014 Dodge journey 2011 2014 Chrysler 200, Dodge avenger 2011 2014 Chrysler town and country, Dodge caravan the bulletin applies only to vehicles built on or before September 01, 2014 and those vehicles equipped with 3. 2l v6 24v vvt, or 3. 6l v6 24v vvt engine. Chrysler states that the sound is a loud high frequency screeching noise on startup that happens within 20 seconds of engine startup and lasts about 90 seconds intermittently during a cold engine start, approximately 0 degrees c (32 degrees f) and below. The fix is a new updated idler pulley #05281301aa idler pulley.
After having my Jeep brand new from the dealer roughly about two weeks after purchasing the check engine light turned on. We bought our Jeep from autonation in spring, TX. We live in galveston county so when it turned on we took it to autozone for the free code check - the code read was p20e8 and it just said emissions code. No specific readout was available for the code detected. The exact Jeep we own is a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee serling edition ecodiesel. We did notice that the def fluid was not properly filled to the full level upon the purchase so figured it could in relation to that. We drove back up to spring to the dealer and told them the issue and they said ok got us in a rental and then would call us as soon as it was ready. Once we picked it up it we asked what was the cause for the code and the technician said OH well it was nothing - just something that we forgot to turn off. On the way home the check engine light again comes back on the dash. We stop by another Jeep dealer in the way home and inquired with them what they thought it might be and they said that whatever the dealership told you cannot be true. Then bill or service or receipt said check engine light p20e8 was found def pump low pressure fault is stored, found tank low with less than 2 inches of fluid in take, found vehicle was not topped off when purchased, added def to tank and cleared codes and verified proper def fluid pressures at injector. The light remains on two days later and now a message pops on my dash and said def system problems see dealer. Normally I would not be so upset but this a brand new car the dealer (not mentioned) was not exactly helpful dropping off or receiving the vehicle back with any kind of helpful information. I love my car and just want to make sure it can be properly fixed so I hopefully do not have to worry about my safety or the integrity of my car.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle overheated and an unknown indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred a couple of times. In addition, the vehicle would sometimes not start from a cold start. The contact had to shift the gear out of park in order to get the vehicle to start. The vehicle was taken to kernersville Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (950 nc-66, kernersville, nc 27284, (888) 656-5791) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module (fuse box) needed to be replaced. The circuit was not getting power to the fan to cool the radiator. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 135,000.
We loaded up to go to the desert (clear summer day with temperatures near 80 degrees fahrenheit), stopped to get gas and ice (Jeep was running the entire time) and once we got on the way there, the battery light came on, then an odd sound was heard then whitish electrical smelling smoke started pouring out of the engine compartment, this happened within 8 - 10 seconds total). I grabbed my extinguisher and popped the hood and saw that the smoke appeared to be coming from around the alternator and steam was everywhere. I also noticed that the motor was overheated (but no temperature light and no fans were turning). We turned around and made it the 3 blocks back to the house when the Jeep died and without power steering and brakes we almost collided with a parked car. We parked it in the middle of the street to cool off and to obtain assistance to push it into my garage. It was found that my alternator had a diode that shorted to ground. Please actually read the following: there are at least 38 other complaints concerning the same chain of events on NHTSA website. Alt shorts, destroys the battery, and tipm/pcm. Fca refuses to expand 1 of 3 open recalls to include my make/model and many others. Nhtsa refuses to actually hold Jeep/fca accountable. Check p60-14v634 (alternator had bad diodes and shorted to ground) expanded multiple times, t36-17v435 (alternator had bad diodes and shorted to ground)expanded multiple times, t75-17v741 (alternator had bad diodes and shorted to ground). The data in NHTSA data shows that from years 2007 to 2018, fca us, llc models badged 2012 had the highest percent of total recalls of any year owning 18% of the 24,053,941 total recalls fca family had. How does this not flag the NHTSA to fight for us? the NHTSA fined fca 120,000,000 for their addmitted unefectual recall process. I have so much more data. Sad.
Purchased used 2012 Grand Cherokee overland w/94637 miles on January 27 2018. On January 31 at 8:50am after driving two miles I came to a stop at a stop light and while waiting for light change the engine died. No warning lights - the only indication was rpm dropped to zero. Put vehicle into park and restarted without a problem. Continued driving for the remainder of 32 mile trip. Again on February 2 2018 the same thing occurred while my wife was driving. She came to a full stop and while waiting for signal light to change the vehicle engine quit with no warning lights. On both occasions this was the first trip of the day in the early morning ambient temperature of 55 degrees on dry pavement on city streets. Both times the vehicle was restarted without a prolem and the trip continued without interruption. Vehicle is scheduled at folsom lake Jeep dealer for investigation.
After the 3rd periodical maintenance performed at 59. 793 km on Nov. 2017 the 28th,the vehicle in standstill with the gear engaged switched suddenly off (ecoand drive mode on). Pressing the starting button, it restarted and remained ok for a long, but without any alert the switching off happened again and again. Sometimes a cranking lead to fail the ignition. Once the shutdown happened also with the vehicle running, not in standstill, with an high risk of accident. So the vhl went to workshop again in dec2017, feb2018 and mar2018 and the results of the workshops (different in these months) was always not trouble found. The problem of turning off in standstill, usually happens at the time of departure at the traffic light, in drive (gear 1),but it happened also in parking mode, with not cold engine and on cluster is reported"low oil pressure" (oil change less than a month ago). I point out that the vehicle is used in the style of mixed driving, every day traveling in the city but also runs daily routes on the highway so I assume that the regeneration of fap takes place correctly. The use of the vehicle is not heavy. The vehicle is always recovered at night in the boxg (the temperature does not fall below 0 degrees) and therefore is not exposed to extreme weather conditions. Please check that there are no recall actions that have not been carried out in consideration of the persistence of the anomaly, I request that the workshop be supported by a second technical level to allow the resolution of the problem and avoid the replacement of unnecessary parts.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v699000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to jeff d'ambrosio Dodge Chrysler Jeep downingtown (1221 e lancaster Ave, downingtown, PA 19335; (610) 269-9500) where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the egr cooler was replaced five times however, there was a fracture which allowed gasoline to enter the engine, causing the engine to fail. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Continual engine problem light due to egr sensor fouled. Have had it serviced numerous times. Causes acceleration issues and shifting issues. Vehicle acceleration causes a safety issue in traffic while moving and when trying to enter traffic from a stop. Was told by dealer there was a recall coming in February, but now they say they never heard of a recall. I am hesitant to travel and have the vehicle break down. I am attaching 5 of the repairs that I can find, but there have been more for the same reason, and 1 additional since I have an appt on 2/18/2020 to fix it in preparation for a trip from NY to FL.

I own a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee VIN: 1c4rjfctxcc178319 for the past several months since purchase, the Jeep has had issues starting and has stalled while driving at high rates of speed. . Read more...
My car is currently at 76k miles. Since around 20k miles, my car has had issues with starting that happens intermittently, slow/no response from push button start, slow/no response with Smart entry system when locking/unlocking doors. All of these issues are very intermittent. To go into more detail about the starting issue, the car would start completely, but then shortly after the rpm would drop to 0 and the electrical components would stay on. When trying to push the start button again, it would try to crank for 15 seconds. It's necessary to completely power off the car to properly start the car. Sometimes the issue presents itself immediately after. These issues happen with both key fobs even after switching to fresh batteries. I've taken it to Jeep dealership 4-5 times with no resolution. They have replaced the fuel pump relay twice for attempt to resolve starting issue. They were never able to duplicate or no codes would present themselves. I have strong suspicion of the tipm (totally integrated power module) failing, which is approximately $1200 to replace. Even though I have the extended warranty, Jeep will not replace until duplicated. I even left the car at Jeep for a week one of those visits. The issues happen almost every other day or on a very bad week, every day the car is used. Jeep customer service is very poor and I've been stuck with this issue for way too long. The starting issue even happened today, twice.

Driving w on 60 in az, 30 mins after having oil changed at local auto care shop, where I was told everything looked fine but my radiator hoses looking soft. Consider getting g new ones in this 112 degree heat (like the day I'm submitting this). On freeway, engine overheats, stalls, steering locks, brakes harden and I come to a complete stop in an inconvenient 2 inches off the curb, still in everyone's way as they attempt to exit mill Ave. Brakes hard and doesnt allow for push-to-start button to turn over. Nor to place in neutral. Standing by for a tow as we speak. Never had this happen before. Coolant just topped off three days ago and given an okay after oil change half hour prior to this happening. Perhaps coincidence. Perhaps just life. Reporting either way.
The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will experience engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, at times in excess of 30 mph. This causes a loss of power steering and power brake functions. It has likewise stalled at stop lights/signals which is equally dangerous when vehicles are approaching from behind at high speeds expecting the vehicle in front to move with the green light. Chrysler issued a recall (p54) related to these issues, however the cheap external fuel pump relay wiring harness fix they employed to remedy the problems can be characterized as insufficient at best. In fact, the issues with our family vehicle have actually worsened since the p54 recall was performed in may of 2015. The vehicle's problems have now progressed to the point where the vehicle will not start: a typical symptom of these dangerous Jeep/Chrysler products. There are literally hundreds of consumer complaints outlining similar issues I. E. , the vehicles being difficult to start or not starting at all, vehicles' power windows not operating properly, door locks opening and locking on their own, horn blaring, the vehicle not recognizing the fob, electronic fuel pumps remaining on after the vehicle is shut off and stalling while the vehicle is in motion. A common theme related to all of these issues seems to be the power distribution center for the vehicles or the tipm (total integrated power module). It seems fiat - Chrysler has been aware of the problems with their oem manufactured tipm parts for some time, since 2007, but took the woefully inadequate route of correcting only a small and less dangerous issue of the manufacturers defect. Hence their court ordered p54 external fuel pump wiring harness, which on a good day will correct the fuel pump run-on. What needs to be addressed is the stalling while in motion issues associated with these vehicles. Please mandate a safety recall.
Sudden stall out while driving at 45 mph (on telegraph road, redford, mi area- city street). This has occurred once after the recall was performed on the vehicle.
9/1/15 at approximately 8:20 p. M. Unintended change in ignition switch to the off position resulting in engine shutdown, electrical and power steering completely shutdown/lock. Collision averted by pulling resting 45 degree angle against the curb. Engine restarted thereafter. T/c to another dealership (this time downtown los angeles) and I am glad to report an appointment for this coming Friday, 9/4/15.

During a drive up a mountain grade in southern California and towing a recreational boat on 7-4-15, our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3. 0l ecodiesel engine overheated (I. E. Coolant) and the oil temperature reach over 300 degrees. These conditions caused the vehicle to go into a very slow driving condition (I. E. 5mph) on a two (2) lane highway causing a traffic jam behind us and a dangerous situation since turnout lanes were infrequent. When opening the hood, it appeared that the coolant had sprayed out of the reservoir through the cap and onto the engine. We attempted to cool the engine down over a two (2) hour period and added over 1. 5 gallons of a water/coolant mixture however, the vehicle still overheated and had the engine oil reach over 300 degrees until we could park it for several more hours. The vehicle is rated to tow 7200lbs. With the factory installed towing package however, Jeep curiously did not install a towing feature on the model to help with shifting, etc. The boat and trailer weighs less than 3450lbs. This is an unsafe condition and I am afraid that the issue has damaged the engine. The Jeep/Chrysler assistance line would only tow the vehicle but not our boat and was no help to us so we were left on our own during our 4th of July vacation. Jeep needs to provide a towing feature, install a heavy duty additional oil cooler and additional engine cooling provisions for the Jeep Grand Cherokees with the 3. 0l ecodiesel and factory towing package from a safety and equipment reliability/longevity perspective. Please assist us. Thank you.
Vehicle stalled while stopped at stop light. When started, idled very rough and stalled again. Car was towed to dealer. Dealer indicated failure in fuel pump relay. Repair involves disabling of fuel pump relay in totally integrated power module (tipm) and installing external fuel pump relay. Failure also resulted in failure of valve spring. The repair regarding the fuel pump is identical to the repair outlined in Chrysler safety recall p54/NHTSA 14v-530, which per Chrysler customer service rep is only applicable to 2011 vehicles and not 2012 vehicles. This fuel pump failure affects more vehicles than outlined by original recall.
I had an extremely dangerous situation occur on November 15, 2014 with our 2011 Grand Cherokee. Around 7 p. M. , I was merging onto interstate 95 south from 332, the newtown, PA exit. I did a hard acceleration to avoid traffic bringing up the rear. The engine then accelerated uncontrollably . . . So fast that the tachometer was pinned to the right side . . . Into the red zone near 7k. A later check of the vehicle maximum speed on the garmin gps revealed it peaked at 97 m. P. H. With my foot completely off the gas pedal, the engine was pinned to maximum revs. I honestly thought it would disintegrate. In the span of a few seconds, I knew not to shut off the engine, as I would have lost steering. I had the presence of mind to put the transmission in neutral, to at least stop the speeding. The engine continued to rev out of control. I believe I was kicking the gas pedal, and the engine eventually released its grip on speed and returned to near-idle, upon which I re-engaged to drive. If a car were anywhere ahead or near me, a devastating wreck would have been the result. I took the Jeep to the reedman-toll service department in langhorne, PA. They could find nothing that would confirm the incident. I contacted Chrysler customer service. An agent named caleb took my report and said he had no similar reports. I find it distressing that nothing in the Jeep 'black box' recording system would have a record of this potentially catastrophic imcident. The reedman service advisor speculated that I may have 'reset' the software if and when I was kicking the accelerator while the event was under way.
From a stop, right turn, accel towards planned speed of 60. At app. 50mph approaching guardrails then bridge the vehicle 'locks up' (no screeching brakes), thought 'trans' (previous unresolved problems), engine sputters, about to die, speed has dropped 30mph, (assume no brake lights). Quick decision (rails 75'), get to shoulder. Small shoulder, deep ditch with a steep downhill pitch to the river. Just as I was about to enact the decision the engine "roars" to life and hits 65mph before I can react and apply the brakes mid-bridge. The whole incident only took seconds, maybe 7 to 10. Took it, once again, to blevins motors, potsdam NY and once again was told that their diagnostic computer saw no abnormalities. This time I asked for a print out of said report and was told there was no such thing as a 'print out'. I am a 100% disabled vet with a head injury and ptsd. This the salesman was notified of the first thing. I did not mention the ptsd as it had always been my problem and explosive anger was never present. The "injury" was after months of lies and 'dirty dealing' from the start that they finally 'beat a path' in my brain to the anger part. It led to many visits with my va psychologist, loss of friends as I seemed abnormally consumed with my ill-treatment by blevins, which I was, and total frustration that I had no recourse via the law because I could "blow" at the least slight. I have to a great degree put the 'ptsd' back in its box, but the damage to what was an already slowly slipping brain that I had accepted, it took a big hit damage wise. I no longer check e'mail. 315-353-5016 day or night. Thankyou!.
Attempted to use the autostart to warm vehicle and after one minute it shut off. Tried 5 times to start vehicle using push button, would not start or stop. Finally let me start with keyfob. I contacted dealer that morning and was told it is most likely the tipm but they don't have any; also I was told it is unsafe to drive my vehicle and get it repaired ASAP. Luckily I was able to locate a dealership with an appointment and part to fix it; even though they told me the computer might just need an update. Vehicle continued to not start at random times using keyfob. Having issues starting car up to the time I drove it across town to dealership, it would not turn over, sputtered, shook and started. I also have parts on order (been on order since 9/28/14) for the active recalls for brake booster and sun visor fires. I always hear a running sound after the vehicle has been shut off. Chrysler's customer services department is no help. I expressed my concern with all the recall/safety issues via email and was told "sorry to hear of your concerns and delay in having parts. I regret the problems you are having with your vehicle. Unfortunately we are unable to diagnosis your vehicles issues via email. We recommend contacting your authorized dealership to arrange an appointment. " did they even read my complaint!!! I have an appointment to have it fixed but what happens between now and then. What happened to the dependable Chrysler products? this is my 5th in 18 years of driving and my last. Hopefully I do not hurt/kill anyone or myself behind the wheel of this vehicle. I am scared to drive it. It is a 2012 with 28k on it, this is just disgusting! for as much as these Jeeps cost I expect a better product and customer service from Chrysler. Their dealerships can only do so much without backing from the manufacturer. Chrysler needs to fix these issues these are safety issues.
A 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 64,000 miles on it is sitting in my driveway, as it will not start. I find it appalling that a car that is 3 years old can have so many issues plaguing it. It is a money pit. There is a cylinder 2 misfire (needs cylinder head), a torque converter code, and a faulty fuel pump relay on the 'totally integrated power module'. The safety of my family, and the consumer in general, is compromised - when a $30,000 vehicle has the potential to stall while driving. When working, the Jeep decelerates while driving, has low power and idles very irregularly. I am very disappointed with my purchase and with the fact that Chrysler stands for such faulty products.
When cranking my vehicle it begins to stall and sounds as if it is flooding. It continues to do this until I can get it to turn off. The stalling is continuous. When I took my Jeep to the dealership they informed that the problem I am experiencing is due to a defective totally integrated power module, or tipm. This defective part is the cause of the problems I'm incurring with starting my vehicle and it's stalling. While researching the issue I learned that the tipm can "prevent the fuel pump from shutting off properly, cause headlights and taillights to shut off, and can cause random and uncontrollable activity of the horn, windshield wipers, alarm system, door locks, and airbags.
