1 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

I previously reported that this 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (3. 6 pentastar engine) stalls without warning. The vehicle has stalled at least twice in August, numerous times in September, and already twice this month (October). What is more concerning is there is no check engine light the warns of the pending stall condition. Also, I have had the thermostat, lifters, tappets, rocker arms, cylinder head, spark plugs, and ignition coils replaced and problem seems to be getting worse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (koons tysons corner). The dealer cannot read any active or stored codes for the stalling issue. Additionally, the shop foreman advised that it appeared to be the fuel pump. I ordered the $540. 00 fuel pump and had replaced on Monday October 7, 2019 for an additional $630. 00. Ironically enough, the vehicle stalled going home and the fuel pump repair did not fix the issue. The mechanic and service advisor now say that I should replace the pcm and then the tipum if all else fails. This is an additional $3,000. 00 in estimated service that they cannot guarantee that will fix the issue. The most concerning thing is that Chrysler will not be held accountable for this. I have also filed a complaint with fca, whom initially just closed the case. I then filed another one today and requested to speak with a case manager, which is pending (no faith at this point). It should also be noted that fca is aware of this issue as addressed in the recall: Chrysler is recalling 188,723 2011 Dodge durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee suvs in the u. S. Because of a defective fuel-pump relay inside the power module that can cause the vehicles to "stall without warning. ".

2 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/04/2017

Vehicle had an ignition switch recall (p41) which was replaced by dealer. After replacement part failed and vehicle was towed to dealer for repair March 4, 2017. Dealer informed me that the replaced ignition coil had failed and they would further repair as part of recall. Vehicle, 7 weeks later, is still not repaired. I have escalated my case from the dealership to Jeep national and vehicle still not repaired with no update. I was informed during this process that my car is a "one-off", the replacement recall part that was intended for my vehicle does not work in my vehicle and that Jeep is further researching how to repair. I am filing a complaint due to timeliness of repair. While recall repair has been free of charge, original part replacement took less than one day. Dealership has been evaluating recall part for seven weeks and still do not have any information of when vehicle will be repaired/returned. Jeep originally offered a loaner vehicle which I turned down as I was told repair would be only a couple of days. I have now requested several times for a comparable loaner vehicle while Jeep is still evaluating the repair. Jeep will not provide a loaner vehicle and I am told it is because my car is no longer under warranty. While I understand warranties, Jeep has my car because of failed recall replacement part and they will not put in original part due to recall. Jeep also closed out the recall on my vehicle. Please advise.

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

Started out to go to work @ 6 am travelled with no issues to the kids sitter's house and then continued on to work on double lane highway speed limit 60 mph. The Jeep started sputter, jerk and eventually died, didn't realize it had died so pulled off to side of road, turn the Jeep back on it kept sputtering, jerking and died again. Finally, it backfired 3 to 4 times and stayed started. Check engine light came on went and had the code read it stated it was the ignition coil and catalyst system. So we changed th ignition coil and catalytic converter, along with the muffler do to the fact the backfiring blew a hole plum through the muffler. Still same problems. Have had several near miss of crashs, and bodily injury. Now it doesn't want to start and you sit on the side of the road like I did for 2 hours before it wanted to start up.

8 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/25/2010

While driving the Jeep the engine would just stop running. It would usually start again by turning the key but not always. Took to local Jeep dealer & was told it was the pcm po351 which I paid to replace. At 76800 miles 02/17/2010 the same problem happened & the same dealer said sometimes they get a bad pcm & it was replaced under warranty. The Jeep is towed behind a motor home & at 78558 miles 08/30/10 the exact same problem happened while in the state of wa. The Jeep dealer there said "found coil primary stored in pcm" so I paid for a coil/ignition 8035004 replacement. While still in wa & approximately 200 miles later the engine stopped running again just as it did before. I decided to tow it back to phoenix & not drive it until someone else attempted to fix the problem. An independent garage on 01/03/2011 at 79503 miles stated in part "found engine would stumble & code po351 would set when ignition coil harness connector is tampered with. Replace connector. Wiggle connector at pcm can cause stumble. Internal defect causing shutoff. Pcm still under warranty. Part on national back order" checking the internet for similar problems shows the same problem occurring numerous times going back many years so this is not new a problem to Jeep. Having the engine just quit randomly is a safety issue & has been going on for too many years as evidenced by the internet information. Current mileage is 79729. . 01/31/2011 & no parts available.
