Jeep would not start I thought it was the fuel pump so I took it to a mechanic. The diagnosed it an also thought it was the pump. They changed it out and I still had the same issue. After looking at it again the mechanic told me that he had read up on a problem several Jeeps vehicles were having and it was the same problem as my Jeep. They changed the ignition module and it works great now. It took about a week and half to get the part in due to the fact that many people are having the same problem. I believe that Jeep should recall all the vehicles that have this module because it seems like it is becoming a big issue.

First instance: at vehicle startup, elctronic gauge cluster immediately posted "service immediately" warnings for abs, air bags, 4x4 suspension, parksense, among others. Speedometer was not operational. Unsure if blind spot monitoring was operational. Check engine light remained on. Turning off ignition, opening doors, and waiting several minutes did not clear the issue. After waiting overnight, everything was operable. At first service visit, dealer reconfigured pcm per Chrysler and returned vehicle. Second instance: approximately two weeks later, the above issue reoccured. We could not make it to the dealer and had to drive the vehicle in this condition. A few days later, the issure reoccured once more. This time, we were able to drive it to dealer. While service was closed, we asked someone to verify the condition and download codes. We contacted Jeep customer care and was assigned a case manager. At service visit, the dealer stated they were unaware of this ever happening, and I told them I had seen several cases on Jeep internet forums of an abs module being replaced. After speaking with Jeep, dealer installed new abs module. Also, we were given a rental Chrysler 300c for one day during this visit, and it failed to start the morning we had it due to an apparent electrical issue and had to be towed from our garage. Just two weeks after the Jeep had the abs module replaced, we have yet to see reoccurence. However, when I asked Chrysler case manager if all systems displayed as needing service during this issue were truly mechanically working or not, she said they "probably" were. When I questioned that response, she stated the best thing to do would be to pull over and have vehicle towed if it happened again. She would not confirm that other vehicles had a similar issue or if the abs module fix was successful in those cases.

This is a commonly known defect with these Jeeps which has never been adequately addressed by the NHTSA. Someone is going to get killed if the manufacturer is not held responsible. Infamous stalling problem. Whether going 10 mph or 70 mph, vehicle will stall with no warning. Generally will re-start after turning off ignition, but not always immediately. On my Jeep, I have replaced the computer module, crankshaft position sensor, fuel pump, fuel filters, maf sensor, distributor cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires. I have had the computer module wiring harness reworked. Still stalls, and I have been forced to park the Jeep for safety reasons.

Car stalls when trying to start it. Car's engine shut off while driving 50mph on a main highway - had turn ignition off and then back on to restart. Car would not go over 25 mph - finally got into shop and was told I needed a new transmission control module.
There are two main issues: stalling and no start. Stalling issue - vehicle began to stall on 8/9/10 on a random and intermittent basis while driving at varying speeds. The stalling appears to have stopped after the last service was completed on 7/25/11. The following information relates to the stalling issue. Each date is separate visit to dealership: 8/13/10 - performed diagnostic test, with no fault codes stored. Checked wiring to pdc and front control module. Road tested for 55 miles. Could not duplicate customer concern. 9/2/10 - replaced wireless ignition node - (due to a bind, stick or sieze). 10/27/10 - replaced throttle body. Found the throttle body to be binding. 7/25/11 - performed diagnostic test, found a stored code for the crankshaft sensor. Could not duplicate concern. Replaced sensor. No start issue - this is defined as turning the key to the start position but would not crank. Fuel pump would turn on after a few seconds. All electrical systems were fine. Battery was full strength. In all of these cases, the car would start up without a problem within 24-48 hours after the no-start incidents. The following information relates to a "no start" issue. Each date is a separate trip to the dealership. 5/30/11 - vehicle towed in on Saturday. Service technician started vehicle up three times on Monday. Let sit overnight and started right up on Tuesday. Battery tested fine. No codes in system. 7/25/11 - diagnostic scan, replaced crankshaft sensor (see stalling) 7/26/11 - vehicle towed to dealership. Duplicated no-start issue. Replaced engine wiring harness. Service advisor extremely confident that this was the issue. *after speaking with the service advisor today, he had told me that they had replaced several wiring harnesses on the 2007, 2008 g. Cherokees experiencing same issue since my service on 7/26/11.

Since the first event the vehicle has stalled at the most importuned time. Two years ago it stalled twice while entering the new jersey garden state parkway on the same day. A year ago it stalled at 40 miles per hour traveling north on university blvd 100 ft from the dealer kelly Jeep dealership were the vehicle was purchased. I was made aware in July 2014 that there was an ignition key problem. By a local auto body repair shop owner. I remove everything from key except a small lightweight identification plastic tag a month ago it stalled again which turning onto high speed four lange expressway. I have contact a different dealer three months go and was told Chrysler is working on the problem. This is a very dangerous situation. I can't believe that in almost a year Chrysler still appears to have not inkling of owh to solve the problem prior to the public announcement in sept 2014 I had it to the dealer and was required to have vehicle tested by the analyzer. No problem was found. Even though I am 90 years old I still have sufficient strength to get the vehicle to a stop and if possible to the side of the highway in order to restart it. But I am afraid that if this happens with my wife while driving she will not be have sufficient strength to steer of brake the vehicle when it losses complete power. How is this any different than the accidently operation of the ignition key event that has occurred with general motor products. Last we I received a recall notice from Chrysler regarding the need to re-program the final drive control module (fdcm), that may cause the service $wd light to be activated making it impossible to change gears. I do not see that listed as a recall and I have never received any other notice. His apparently has a higher priority at Chrysler than the ignition key issue. Regards,.

I have been having issues with my cherokee since early 2007; multiple issues including the car stalling, check engine light coming on/off, all the dashboard lights turning on and off and multiple attempts in getting the car to turn on. I have taken the car to multiple repair shops; both dealership and local repair shops looking for answers. I have been given the same diagnosis each time; the transmission control module is faulty. The transmission control module has been replaced (3) times and works for a little less than a year and then the problem returns. I first heard of the safety recall - ignition switch p41/NHTSA 14v-438 (as I later learned) from the media. I called the nearest dealership to inquire on when I could bring the car in for repair. They said they didn't have the part and to call back when I get a letter saying the part is available; that was almost 6 months ago. In the meantime I have also received a letter from Chrysler informing me of the recall. That came almost 3 month after the recall was on the news. Yesterday, while driving my car all the dashboard lights came on and off and my car momentarily stalled while driving down the highway. These are the same issues I've been having where the transmission control module has been replaced and reading the symptoms of this ignition switch problem, I think they are related. I called Chrysler's recall assistance center today and was on hold for 2 hours before I gave up. There was no way to leave a message for Chrysler to call me back. The recall has been in affect since July 2014 and has not been resolved in a reasonable time. I am afraid to drive my vehicle as it is a safety hazard to myself and others. This is causing a lot of difficulty for me as this is my only mode of transportation and there is no repair in the foreseeable future.
I read about the recall on the 2007 wrangler and nitros. It sounded like the same problem. I had loss of engine power several times, similar to running out of gasoline. Most times it would not stall, but if at slow speeds or at a stop the engine would completely quit. One turn of the key would start it up again. Now that I saw similar symptoms being recalled for another Jeep I wanted to file a formal notice of the problem before I or another person ended up stalling at a traffic light and getting hurt. Please note that the incident date below is when I first had a full stall.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4. While driving 15 mph, the alternator light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact heard a grinding noise, the steering wheel jerked, the brake pedal failed to depress properly, all of the instrument panel lights dimmed, and the turn signals did not work. The failures occurred on two occasions. The dealer was contacted twice and stated that there was a short in the computer module. The vehicle is not drivable. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 19,500 and failure mileage was 10,000.
Tie rods, wheel bearings, ball joints, fan clutch, shorted engine compartment wiring harness, fuel pump assembly all gone wrong from time of purchase; January 2000/brand new to sept. 2006. . . Some pd. Under warranty others after 2004 not; even though the defects usually do not happen to a Jeep Grand Cherokee/fully loaded. The last straw was the ball joints; we asked if some form of recall should of been done and then asked for a reimbursement because my wife's' 2004 Jeep liberty limited had a recall on it's ball joints/lower ones so after having mine replaced last Friday 9/15/2006 we asked about the Grand Cherokee and it's ball joints; we also updated on all the defects we've had to correct and wondered if it wasn't a expensive lemon. . . $35,000. 00 is what I paid. We called Chrysler main customer service and was only told were sorry, the age of the Jeep and past warranty. . . What does that have to do with all the past defects since 2000 and the fact we tried their customer service in 2002 and got no where again. No matter the age of the vehicle. . . Safety is safety. And if ball joints go bad for no reason and have to be replaced then, it should go as a safety concern for all their vehicles.

The entire electrical system suddenly failed. This happened 4 times, 3 timers while vehicle as running and twice after the dealer "fixed" it.
My 2000 grand Jeep cherokee larado has a problem with the electrial system. All the dash lites are on and the speedometer dosnt work. It has been at a Jeep dealershjp for almost a month. They cant figure out whats wrong with it. They first replaced a computer modular and I picked it up and the next day I still had the same problems. I took it back and they replaced the samething and told me it was fixed and it happened again after paying out 980. 00. I took it back a third time and the company told them to change the ground wires and that didnt fix the problem. They are out of ideas. The right tale lite keeps going out also. So they just put a new one in. This will not fix the problem as we have changed lite bulb several times. The rear windows will no longer work also. They said they changed the fuse and fixed the problem but it wasnt fixed. This could lead to a ticket for not going the speed limit or accident from speeding, also a rear end crash as the tail lite goes off when you apply the brakes.

While driving on a busy streetwith my 2 children in the car, I had to stop @ a red light and when the light turned green, I proceeded to go but couldn't and realized that the car had shut off. I tried to restart the car in a hurry due to oncoming traffic but was unable to. Finally I find the hazard lights and put them on to let people know that my vehicle was stalled. I had to take the key completeley out and put it back in to restart the vehicle. I could've had an accident. Took the car in and left it there for 3 days and the dealership stated that there was nothing wrong with my car and to take it home. So I did. I went out of town that weekend and the same thing happened with the exception of the vehicle was actually in motion when it shut off for the second time on a another busy street. I quickly turned on the hazard lights and once again had to restart the vehicle. As I was making my way back into to town, the check engine light came on and I took the car back to the dealership for another 3 days all for them to say that they reprogrammed the transmission and engine computers and that should resolve the problem. But it didn't. . . It shut off again about a week later right after I dropped my kids off at school. This is ridiculous and is a safety hazard. I took it back again, keep in mind this is the third time. . . This time they changed out the ignition cylinder after 4 days. I have only had it back now for 4 days and once again the car shut off at a light on a busy street. So the people at the dealership will be seeing me again!!! this is dangerous and very inconvienent for me and my family.
My mom bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2000. On July 25 we went into town to the hardware store, my sister and her granddaughter stayed in the car with the air condidtion on and the engine running. We were (mom and I) gone 7-8 minutes, and when we got back in the car; put the seat belts on, put my foot on the brake and put the Jeep in reverse and we took off backwards across the naylors parking lot across third street, up and over the curb, went between two trees into the parking lot between the fire station and city hall where we hit a parked car and the parked car hit a telephone guide wire, we hit a tree that finally stopped us. After doing some research on the computer I know this is not the first time this has happened with powering uncontrollably backwards with the Jeep Grand Cherokees. The witnesses stated we were going about 30 miles an hour backwards. I tried to use the brakes but it was out of control. I reported this to Chrysler and they did an investigation denying my claim.
Fuel pump/gas tank/computer all need to be replaced as a result of deterioration of the gas tank lining. Fuel pump overheated, causing computer to malfunction and eventually break. How many people does it take to lose a ton of money because of a defective product that could be dangerous while driving to issue a recall.
The ecm causes intermittent power loss including loss of power steering and power brakes. This occurs at stops, turns, and normal highway speeds. The dealer service department reports that it is the ecm because "when they rap on it with a wrench during idling, is causes the car to stall. " the ecm does not record a failure.
When stopped at traffic signal or when slowing, vehicle would cut off completely -- losing all power. It was checked by dealer on the second day of problem occurring. They initially could not find a problem. Was returned to dealer the next day and they were able to duplicate the problem but they nor Chrysler had a fix for it. My vehicle has been with the dealer since October 5, 2000. Today's date is November 22, 2000. Supposedly there is a problem with the computer which Chrysler was to have the fix available the first of November. Now due to some other reason the fix won't be available until after January 1, 2001. Chrysler is supposed to contact me to discuss a resolution to my problem.
Vehicle experiencing problem with starting; taken to independence shop and informed consumer ofan electronic module needed to be replaced due to rust/corrosion. Part was available for analysis. Please provide any further details.
After owning this vehicle for just over 19 months, we have had to have the main computer replaced as well as new front brake rotors 2 times. The first time we had to replace the rotors we had owned the car for a little over a year. Now, the second time we're replacing the rotors after only 7 months. The brake rotors warp and cause sever "shimmying" while braking, this leads to less control of the vehicle and delayed stopping. This problem causes a hazard to both the passengers of the defective vehicle and to those driving around it. These vehicles need to be recalled and the defect needs to be corrected right. Thank you for your time and your help.
Dealer examined and replaced the control unit twice. No help. Idle speed is too low (400mph)! I want Jeep to do something. It's a lemon!.

Driving up a very steep hill at night. Car starts to buck wildly, loose power, rpm goes constantly from 300 to 2000. Seems fuel starved. Over hill, engine seems to run fine. Then on highway at 70 mph, engine shuts itself off, twice within half hour. Dealer says computer chip and replaces, but not fixed. Then says fuel pump. Replaces. Now six weeks later, same thing happening to car. Not fuel gauge problem, as tank 3/4 full.

While in reverse and going into drive, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly which might have caused an accident. Also, when starting vehicle with the headlight switch on, the headlights go off when instructed to be on. Been to dealer several times. Dealer cannot determine problem, they say it might be the computer module, but have not fixed that part.
