4 Instrument Panel problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

Since the day I purchased my certified used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the interior instrument panel and dash lights have malfunctioned. The brightness flickers from low to very high, which is very distracting at night, some of the panel controls have since completely stopped working, and several times, all of the warning lights on the dash (seatbelt, airbag, check engine, etc) flash on and off while driving. This has happened at numerous speeds and times of the day. I video taped several incidents on my cell phone to prove it. Took it to the dealer and they said they can't duplicate the problem and the video means nothing. It happens more often, or is more noticeable, at night. They checked it in the daytime. Made no offer of any solution.

On multiple occasions, the instrument panel has stopped working completely. The lighting in both in the interior of the vehicle as well as the exterior flashes and sometimes goes out completely. Multiple dealers have not been able to find a problem. It has caused near crashes before with the distraction of driving at night. The cruise control also accelerates without any warning while this occurs and the cruise must be reset by turning the car off and back on. This too has caused some near crashes as the car accelerates due to the faulty cruise control.

10 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/12/2011

In cold weather (anything below approximately 30f) all instrument panel indicator lights light up, the speedometer and tachometer needles drop to zero, as do the fuel and engine temperature gauges. The reverse assist indicator lights in the tailgate also light up. There is a clicking sound in the dashboard. The engine continues to run, but the abs service required instrument panel indicator light does stay lit up. This is an everyday occurrence in cold weather, and starts happening 10-12 minutes after starting the engine. The vehicle needs to be brought to a full stop and the engine turned off and then on again before it stops happening. Until stopping and restarting, it just keeps on occurring. A quick search of the internet reveals that this is a common problem with various year models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Chrysler dealership simply pleads ignorance after charging me several hundred dollars to 'fix' a loose connection under the driver's seat. An electrical problem of this nature poses a definite electrical fire hazard. Do we need to wait for that before taking action or can we be proactive?.

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Research has shown all 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees with electronic dual climate controls (ac) will eventually require major repair in order to cure hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so. The cost to repair this issue, which has been known to pop up again after another 50k miles after repair, is generally $800-$1500 from a dealership. My Jeep has this issue and it is caused by poor design from crysler, they use cheap plastic parts.

27 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/06/2007

I bought the Jeep cherokee laredo in June 2005 and I have experienced several events with the instrument panel lighting system and gauges. The panel goes on and off until the engine and / or air conditions shut off. At one point the battery needed to be replaced. It has been very stressful having this condition occurring while driving or at a traffic light. Both dealer and Chrysler have improvised some repairs (6 times) that had not resolved the problem. I have decided to file legal action against the dealer and Chrysler after seeing in the NHTSA complaint database that this is a widespread and systemic problem with this model. If you want to join the effort to pursue actions using the "lemon" or any applicable law request a complaint research of this complaint record to have access to my phone and e-mail address. Having a joint effort will result in louder and more effective results to defend our rights as consumers.

Failure Date: 03/07/2007

On March 7, 2007, the instrument panel in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo suddenly failed-gas gauge, speedometer, odometer, battery level, temperature gauge etc all inoperative. On March 8, 2007 my mechanic told me that this event was covered under Chrysler recall 994. Today I took my car to the dealer who said that the recall had already been performed in 2002 and so they were unable to perform the recall again. However, this has never happened to my car before and I did not request that recall be performed in 2002. The service manager said they need to charge me $85. 00 to diagnose the problem. He already knows what the problem is and it is a safety problem because I have no idea how fast I am driving!.

34 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/03/2006

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - ~21,000 miles on vehicle. The instrument cluster/gauges will randomly all light up at once, then go off one at a time as I am driving on the road. The speedometer, at the same time will go to 0 then will seem to 'reboot' and go back to the correct speed. Again, all of this will happen randomly as I travel on the highways. I have taken this vehicle in 3 times to the westgate Chrysler Jeep dealership in raleigh, nc, and it has still not been corrected!! on the first trip, they just flashed the computer and sent me on my way. On the second trip there, the flashing happened to the technician so they replaced the junction box and said that should do it. . . But the problem still occurs. On the 3rd trip, they just hooked up the computer and said everything was fine. They called the Chrysler technical service and they told them to just wait until it happens again. . . Then bring it in?? it happens at random times, so it's difficult to 'just bring it in'. My Jeep has become unsafe to drive at this point! when the instrument cluster goes blank while I'm driving, it becomes a hazard to me and my family. I have contacted Chrysler, but I have only received an automated reply. They are not helping me with this serious issue. I've searched the internet with people who have had similar problems, and the solutions range from bad fuses, to corrosion in the connectors, relays, etc. I don't want to take this in to westgate as they appear useless and don't want to do any detective work. Please help me remedy this serious electrical issue.

35 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/28/2006

: the contact stated the illumination of the instrument panel flickered and failed on three separate occasions. The service brake warning light illuminated each time. On two of those occasions, the brake pedal went mushy, but began operating after the brake pedal was pumped several times. The headlights failed to illuminate on the last occasion while traveling 45 mph. The vehicle was returned to the service dealer three different times for service, but the problems continued. The manufacturer sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle.
