1 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/07/2019

While driving on a highway at 60 mph my vehicle started flashing every possible warning light. Airbags, abs, slip control, cruise control . . . Everything. Most concerning was the 'service shifter' alert; the prnd lights on my shifter panel all started flashing and the car (auto transmission) was stuck in one gear and would not shift. Pulling over and restarting the vehicle would 'fix it' for 10-15 minutes until it all happened again. Engine was making an awful loud noise so I pulled over again. This time after turning it off the vehicle would not start at all. After 30 minutes it started and I was able to drive to a town for the night. The next morning I was able to start it and drive it in 1st gear (where it was stuck) to a Jeep dealer. There it sits as I type. I have seen many identical issues reported by Jeep owners on internet forums and most worryingly, Jeep dealers don't seem to have a clear answer. They're commonly replacing the shifter wiring harness but the problem returns for nearly everyone. This incident stranded me in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, and left me very worried about my safety. Whatever is wrong with the vehicle has cascading errors that affect headlight operation (my high beams would now work), slip control (it became non functional even if I overrode it), wipers (in my case they came on without any rain and I could not turn them off. . . They could just as easily have not functioned in a downpour creating a safety hazard), and braking (the brake pedal was rock solid and not working properly).

2 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/17/2019

While driving at highway speed my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee eco diesel started to make a rumbling noise, the oil pressure light came on within a minute the engine shut off still at highway speed. When I pulled over to the shoulder the car was stuck in gear, would not restart and had a small oil leak. The car was towed to the nearest dealer who determined that the car had engine damage and the engine needs to be replaced. Car has less than 33,000 miles and still has original tires, and brakes. All oil change services were performed as suggested. Car was purchased new from dealer August 4th, 2015.

5 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/06/2015

I was driving on the highway to work in the passing lane, when the rpm's went way up and then way down. I heard a loud noise coming from under the hood and loss of power from engine. No engine light indicator was on before this happened or any sort of indication this was about to occur. I pulled over and had it towed to the dealership. The dealership indicated that the crankshaft was broken internally and that this is a defect of workmanship as I can show records of every oil change on this vehicle. The dealership is offering no good will and Chrysler refuses to help as the mileage is 114,000. I still owe close to $13,000 on this vehicle and to replace the engine it is going to cost $7,800.

7 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

I received a recall sept 2014. It has been going on 7 months and I can not get any information on the status of my recall of p41. I called the Chrysler group recall center and that is a waste of time. The poorest service for a telephone answering service. I was on the phone 30 minutes and finally I hung up. I had to sit and listen to terrible noise (not music) and an announcement that all our agents are busy. I have worked all my life in business and I have never seen such poor service as I have received on this recall. My key switch is loose (because it has been hit so many times). At times I turn the key to start my car and it does not connect with the starter. I would like for someone who is responsible enough and cares about public service to call me and give me a date when my key switch will be replaced. I hope there is someone in the agency that has enough job interest to give this to a responsible employee.

9 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/28/2008

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo has had numerous problems with the fan clutch assembly. Symptoms include loud noises from the engine compartment from startup until a few miles are driven, almost like that of a loud airplane. Vehicle has approximately 155,000 miles and has been one owner since new. Fan clutch assembly has failed more than four times at this point, requiring the replacement of the fan clutch assembly on each failure. One repair was completed at a Jeep dealership under the factory warranty; a second repair was made also at a Jeep dealership outside the factory warranty at a cost of over $350. 00. Third and fourth replacements of the fan clutch were made using genuine new mopar/Jeep parts, but not at a dealership location at a cost of just under $300. 00. Now the dealership has diagnosed this fault for a fifth time, with an estimated replacement cost of $350. 00. It seems abnormal to have to replace the fan clutch assembly every 30,000 or so miles, and that the manufacturer of these units may have a faulty design.

10 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/11/2007

Check engine light continues to come on at random. When it does, problems accelerating. Car will not accelerate past 20 or sometimes car "sputters" jerking a lot. Sometimes at red lights, rail road crossings, anything really where the car is stopped, car will not resume driving and car sounds like it is in neutral and I am reving it up. Electronic dash puts a bracket over each gear, p r n d, all at once. When engine light is on it is on for a period of days. When I turn the car on and put it in to drive it makes the most horrible sound as if I backed into a wall and jerks. Sometimes on the highway when the light is on it's as if I smell something burning through my air vents. Everytime I take it to the dealer or any shop just for a diagnosis it's just my luck that the light turns off and they tell me my car is fine. This car needs to be recalled from looking at the complaints!!!.

13 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/16/2002

Engine replacement done, new engine blown now. This vehicle driven in normal fashion. Higher mileage than normal due to traveling 64 miles each way to and from work each day. Oil pressure drops to zero. Engine knocks so loud sounds as if it will blow any second. Therefore, it is not drivable. Low coolant light comes on every day. We have spent a fortune in antifreeze and it's not even winter yet. When put in 4-wheel drive wheels pop and crack. Then sound as if something major has broken. Pay off on this piece of crap is $31,078. 31. The lemon law does not apply because it did not have problem until after 18000 miles. Is there nothing I can do. 15 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/31/2000

Exited off freeway, slowed down to merge into traffic. Went over a manhole cover (not a big bump, normal manhole cover) heard noise like the tires picked up a stone. Drove 1/2 block and heard a rubbing noise, decided to take vehicle to dealer since it was only a couple of blocks away. Dealer said that the bolts on the right side motor mounts sheared off and motor was hanging. Dealer said that this is not covered by mfg and that it was considered normal wear. I feel this is a safety problem, I have never had a motor mount break and leave an engine hanging, I have never had a motor mount break at 47,000 miles. Vehicle has never been taken off road, has never been driven on gravel - it is a very pampered Jeep! is there any recall or safety regulations on something like this?.
