Failure Date: 02/28/2008

On 2/28/08 I was at the bank about 1/4 of a mile from home and was on my way home there I heard aloud bang under my Jeep. When I got home there was fluid coming out from the radiator area. My fiancee looked at it and the housing around the radiator is all broke, there is pieces of plastic stuck in the radiator and the fan is broken and at the bottom of the radiator there is a punctured hole in it.

37 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/22/2008

I purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee brand new in the year of 2000. I've had nothing but problems with the heating of the vehicle. October of 2005 no heat on the passenger side. January 23,2007 the same problem and now again February 22, 2008 now it's the thermostat needed to be replaced. I'm wounding if this is a recall issue. Also my recent recall about the electric radiator fan, I paid out of pocket $836. 90 to replaced my radiator fan August 2, 2006. I think I should be reimbursed for that expensed because it was recalled after the fact.

38 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

I bought the car in September 2007. . In November I was on the highway and suddenly the car started to overheat had to get it towed to the nearest auto shop where they said the radiator was damaged and had to be changed. . . Couple days later the fan stopped working which also had to be changed. After all the over heating the mechanic told me the engine burned out and also had to be replaced after the fact my car wouldnt start. Had the truck working for a while until April 2008 where my transmission started failing. I kept hearing a clicking noise and the truck wouldnt accelerate as fast it should have been. Had the transmission replaced at cottman transmission. After all this had happened the engine light came on and I couldnt get my inspection done, turned out to be a hose causing air to be released. It is now January 2009 and my truck has leaked out all its antifreeze once again its over heating. All in all since September 2007 I have spent over $3500-$4000 on this truck. Still making payments on the truck from college hill auto in pennsylvania.

40 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/10/2007

I have a coolant leak that I can not get fixed. No visible leak, I have had pressure test after test, I had the head gasket fixed, radiator cap, alot of work done on it and it continues to lose coolant at rapid rates. Every three to four days I am filling my coolant up. Also, my rear brake lights go out and don't work when my lights are on, and I have had those replaced numerous times also!! very frustrating. . . No one can find the source of the leak and I have read page after page of complaints on the internet concerning the exact thing with the exact model!!.

41 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/08/2007

I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee Jeep limited that I purchased new. It was fairly ok until 2003 at about 60k miles. That's when the radiator starting leaking. It was replaced in 2003 and annually thereafter (5 replacements) with the last one in March 2007. Additionally, I have had several water pumps plus replacing the heater core. The dealer says they can't find the cause for the radiators to continue to breakdown every year with less than 10k and under 12 months each time. I believe the Jeep has an inherent flaw in the cooling system design. Chrysler continues to ignore the problem and will not pay for any future radiators which almost assuredly will breakdown again in the near future.

42 Radiator problem of the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/26/2007

This is a complaint on the daimler Chrysler dealership that I went to have the electric radiator fan replaced due to the safety recall f25. I made an appointment for 8:00 am at south bay Chrysler Jeep Dodge on 20900 hawthorne blvd. , torrance, CA 90503. Based on the letter I received I knew service would take approx 1. 5 hours. The service manager raymond told me it would be ready in 2 hours. I told him that I had a business appointment at 2:00 pm that I could not miss and I was reassured that my car would definitely be ready in time. When my vehicle wasn't ready at 12:00 pm, I called the dealership only to be treated very rudely by the service receptionist. I was told they hadn't even started working on my car and that raymond went to lunch and I would have to wait until he returned at 1:15 pm to get an update. I told her that was unacceptable, that it had already been 4 hours and I needed my car. She told me that I could come get my car because they hadn't started working on it yet, but without being serviced. I was okay with that. Once I got to the dealership, I was told that my car was completely taken apart and undriveable. I was left stranded. A two hour job turned into a 9 hour job and it severely affected my time. I was not offered an apology, yet was treated very rudely for being a nuisance to them.

55 Radiator problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/10/2003

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee's radiator fan failed to work, causing the vehicle to overheat. This was diagnosed as an inoperative fan relay by a Jeep dealer. This issue is one of many intermittent mechanical problems plaguing this vehicle since purchasing it new, however this complaint is being filed for 4 specific reasons: 1) this type of problem resulting in total failure should not occur in such a new vehicle, 2) a breakdown of this type (overheat) may cause collateral damage to the vehicle which will not be known about until a future event occurs, 3) I am a women who travels alone often and any breakdown puts my personal safety at risk, 4) to help prevent others from experiencing this if this report assists in determining that this issue is a systemic problem with this vehicle. I understand that proactive resolution of this problem was not likely, however I have attempted to find out information on systemic problems with 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokees in order to be an informed consumer and be proactive in my maintenance checks of my vehicle to avoid breakdown. This information is not readily available from the dealerships, therefore it puts the consumer at more risk than necessary. Daimler Chrysler should take more responsibility and improve communication on these issues. This model year vehicle has been plagued with known problems, two of which cost me the loss of my vehicle over 2 different weekends, 2 different breakdown events while I was driving alone, in addition to at least 12 other service events.

57 Radiator problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2002

Bought used 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee from Jeep dealer in October 2002. I also purchased an extended warranty from Jeep. Auguest 2003 the oil pressure gauge dropped. Stopped Jeep checked oil, all looked fine, restarted, gauge went back to normal. Asked dealer about it, no problem they said. On a trip 300 miles from home, oil pressure gauge dropped again, did the same, gauge came back, but dropped again. Took to service station who couldn't help. Had it towed to dealer. They said gunk build up in the engine, need to repleace at a cost of $9,000. I couldn't prove oil changes ever 3,000 miles (they were done at home), I explained I had only had the Jeep one year, too bad. Extended warrenty won't help. I had engine replace by a friend with a used engine. July 2004, radiator had to be replaced. I called Jeep to ask if they would cover the radiator, they said no, because I couldn't prove I had the radiator flushed at 50,000 miles. I told them I didn't even own the Jeep then, but they said too bad. Someone needs to get Jeep to own up to the problem.

58 Radiator problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/03/2002

Loosing approximately 1 gallon of antifreeze per 1000 miles. Dealer repairs number of times starting from purchase at 19,000 miles (was told to ay $268 by customer service to replace radiator when finally diagnosed at 40,000 miles to get vehicle back even though it was under warranty and vehicle is still losing same amount of coolant)/ low oil pressure was finally corrected by replacing undersized cam. . . Didn't replace lifters, etc. . . Incorrect procedure because they wear together/ a/c and cruise fixed by zip tying a large vacuum resevoir bottle to a/c line/transmission shift poorly. 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle has 48,677 miles currently. At 14,754 miles they resurfaced the front brake rotors and replaced the pads, this was on October 18, 2000. Then on July 15, 2002, at 28,186 miles the front brake rotors had to be replaced and the pads. On may 3, 2004 at 42,123 miles, the rotors had to be resurfaced and replace the pads. On Monday, July 11, 2005 at 48,502 miles the vehicle was taken in for a lube job and the consumer asked to have the brakes checked because he felt pulsation in the brake. She was told the rotors need to be replaced again and new pads would be needed. The dealership states the brakes are not covered under the warranty because they are considered wear and tear items and only covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles. After speaking with the district service manager, she was reimbursed, $211, for the work done on may 3, 2004. According to the service department, this model is having problems with the front brake system. It is due to the fact that they are no longer made of asbestos. When she called the manufacturer, all they did was read the warranty to him. There was a vibration under the vehicle, pulsation from the brakes, a leaking transfer case, rear differential leak, vibration in the front end, a slight brake pulsation, regular pulsation from the brakes, grinding sound rear end, and radiator leaking.
