36 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Seat brackets under driver seat have broken, which causes seat to move when going around bends, getting in and out of seat. The way the bracket has broken, the seat can physically be lifted up off the floor. We removed the seat, there is only 1 of the 4 brackets not broken, so if the last one would break the seat could tip over or fall backwards or forwards. If you would go around a bend, you would either hit up against the door or against the console depending on which direction you turn. If you would have to slam on the brakes the seat would fly forward into the steering wheel. We have fixed the seat once by rewelding the brackets, and they broke again, so we now have completely replaced the seat with a seat from a different Jeep. After the initial repair, it took about a year for it to break again.

38 Seat Broken problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

Two complaints-(1) at approximately 120,000 miles the diver's front seat bracket broke and began leaning the seat backwards. After another 8,000 miles the bracket completely broke. It was welded by a professional welder and replaced. At approximately 138,000 miles it broke again and will have to be welded again but I cannot afford to pay to have it fixed right now. I researched and found that this is a very, very common complaint and safety issue on my model-99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. (2) at approximately 142,000 miles the air bag light began coming on and going off intermitently and now it does so frequently, especially when turning. I have been advised by a mechanic friend that it is the clockspring wires in the steering column and hat only a dealer can fix it. Like the seat problem, this is a safety issue and from my research I have found that it is a very, very common issue as well. I cannot afford to have a dealer replace the clocksping as I have been quoted upwards of $300 to do so.

45 Seat Broken problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/26/2010

I have owned a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo for 7 years and it has been a good car for me. A year ago my front seat broke off of the support beam and it is made of metal. I only way 180 lbs and have taken pretty good care of the car. After researching this online I have come to find out that this has happened to a lot of Jeeps and they used cheap metal to save money. I will be the first to say I love Jeep but this is dangerous for anybody riding in one. I only hope they do not use this method in newer models. It is very dangerous riding around in a seat that is not hooked to the car correctly. I had a friend weld the seat back to the support but it was only a temporary fix as it has broken again.

46 Seat Broken problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

Driver seat has broken, causing me to sway side to side when turning. This seems to be a very common issue with this model of Jeep, and could definitely lead to a major wreck. I just bought the car used. Wish I'd have noticed this problem during the test drive.

47 Seat Broken problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/12/2010

I have a 1999 grand Jeep cherokee. My front driver seat is broken as well. I've owned many cars in my life, and I've never had a broken seat. I should be a recall on the 1999 Jeeps. It's up there with having a working air bag. No one should have to pay to have their driver seat fix, when that should be one thing they shouldn't have to worry about. It's happening to a lot of grand Jeep cherokees. I hope they do a recall, they do not want to be like Toyota.

48 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I've had for about 7 years now. About 6 months ago, the bracket on my drivers side front seat broke. I replaced it and about two months later the metal seat frame on the same side broke and I'm in the process of looking for replacement. Apparently from what I've gathered online through numerous website, this is a very common problem with the Jeep. Poor quality. . . Very unsafe.

49 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

52 Seat Broken problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

53 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/21/2010

I own a 2000 Grand Cherokee laredo. The drivers side seat is broken and wobbling. I had it welded by a mechanic about a year ago and now it is completely broken off the frame and I am unable to drive it due to the extreme lack of safety. I saw many, many complaints exactly the same for this car online. When is Chrysler going to be held accountable for this?.

54 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/21/2010

While braking to avoid a collision with another vehicle the mounting brackets on my driver seat broke, sending me forward into the steering wheel. At this time that problem has not been fixed although I have an appointment to have the seat looked at. The seat mountings and supports are visibly cracked in two places and the entire seat rocks back and forth.

55 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

This vehicle did much like the previous owner's complaint's with the driver's seat. I had pulled in to a parking space and the seat just collapsed. I'm fortunate that I wasn't driving but trying to park. Why haven't NHTSA entered a recall on this??? I'm trying to get the seat welded as I can't afford to buy another seat or another vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed. As long as I've owned cars I've never experienced any seat just breaking apart like this one did. Someone will get killed if this happens while driving. The frame shouldn't give way like this. It must be failure on the type of steel that is being used on the frames.

56 Seat Broken problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee e front driver's seat broken changed it once with the dealership but it broke again from reading online comments from other Jeep owners this is an on going problem with the frame or seat bracket since I changed the frame it broke within 6 months of repairing it average cost for new seat frame is about 600 dollars at dealership and it's not fair to have Jeep owners pay over and over again to fix a problem with their Jeep when it's Jeeps fault.

57 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/30/2010

Driver's seat frame broke in several places: all four "legs" as well as cross-member in small of back. Metal snapped through completely rending the seat first wobbly, then twisted and bent, then finally completely detached from car.

59 Seat Broken problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/11/2010

The drivers side seat has a broken bracket that allows the assembly to rock back and forth. It was perfectly fine until last week. I have owned this vehicle since 2002 and the seat was never a problem. I have found numerous complaints about seat breakage on the Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo and many other Jeep models. This is a safety issue when all attachment points break and the seat is no longer attached to the mounts.

62 Seat Broken problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/06/2010

Drivers seat rocks broken brackets that hold the seat to the car. I have seen thousands of failures of these brackets reported on line. The fix is a new $1000 seat which often gets overlooked and people are welding (that's what we plan to do) a bracket which may create additional safety issues.

63 Seat Broken problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

Front seat support breaks.

64 Seat Broken problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo driver seat is broken. Squeaked a little at fist, then just broke into pieces. The seat is not even attached to the base anymore. Very dangerous. No one has the part. Dealership says that seat comes in individual parts totaling $2300 + $99 labor. Ridiculous! two of the needed parts are discontinued. Ridiculous!!.

65 Seat Broken problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

While making a turn, there was a pop under the seat. The bracket holding the seat has broken near the mounting bolts making the seat rock while sitting in it. I am afraid that if in an accident the seat might come completely loose.

66 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

The driver's seat on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee started squeaking a few weeks ago, and the other day the entire seat bracket broke while I was going around a corner at speed (within the speed limit). When the seat bracket broke, the entire seat (with me in it) abruptly leaned to the side and I momentarily lost control of the vehicle and dented the side of the car on a guardrail. I have contacted a Jeep dealer, and I am told this is a very common problem and the seat repair is close to $1000!! furthermore, they do not have the parts in stock and I am required to pay for the parts in advance for them to order them. This is ridiculous - the failure is a serious safety hazard, it has happened to thousands of other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners, and I'm sure it has resulted in accidents and, possibly, loss of life. What can you do to help start the process of getting a safety recall issued?.

67 Seat Broken problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/04/2010

68 Seat Broken problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

While driving down the road I noticed that seat in my Jeep was rocking to the side. Continuing down the road I heard a snap, so I pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the front left and rear right mounts on my driver seat had broke. Currently looking for a replacement part, but for the time being I took the Jeep to a local welder and had the welder weld the broken brackets. While discussing the repair the welder informed me that this wasnt the first one he has repaired, he too had to weld seat brackets on his Jeep.

69 Seat Broken problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/23/2010

Today, the mounting rails for the drivers seat have broken (the rivets pulled through the cheap metal rails). Seat is secured at two points now instead of 4, and swaying and clicking a lot. Began with clicking and squeaking about 2 months ago but couldn't see anything wrong.

70 Seat Broken problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
