While I was driving down the road the transmission failed and I had to have the vehicle towed and the transmission replaced. The vehicle only had 460 miles total at that time. The vehicle now has 940 total miles and I am beginning to feel hard shifting and slipping while driving, that seems to me that the new transmission they put in the vehicle is going bad already. I will be taking it back to the dealer to have them look at it. I was on a city street going straight at approximately 30mph.

At approximately 60,000 miles the vehicle had just been serviced and new tires were installed. We left the next morning for a vacation. About 100 miles down the limited access highway and traveling at 65 to 70 miles per hour the dash and information touch screen began flashing and a chime began repeating. The windshield wipers began operating at high speed. (it was clear, calm and about 65˚ f. Different messages began flashing: one said to stop and place the vehicle in park, another said to keep driving and not turn the engine off. When able to exit the highway the Jeep would only allow selection of drive or neutral. It would not allow reverse, which made it difficult to turn around. The vehicle did make it back 100 miles to the dealership but would not shift and lights flashed and chimes dinged the entire way. The dealer informed me that an electronic system associated with the transmission has failed and will cost approximately $1,000 to replace.

While driving on the highway a dash warning appeared that said transmission failure, put car in park. At that point the gas pedal stopped working and the vehicle slowed down on its own. Meanwhile almost causing an accident while trying to make it to the breakdown lane. The first time happened at 19k miles, 2nd 29k miles and the transmission was completely replace, 3rd time 42k all 3times almost causing an accident on the highway. This is an unsafe vehicle for any person to be driving. All incidents between 5/2015 and 1/2017.
Issue: transmission fault leads to unexpected "creep mode" in drive, over-pressurized trans expels trans fluid onto manifold leading to engine fire. Details: when stopped & idling in drive for period of time, transmission goes into creep mode of some sort & when trying to accelerate from stop it does not move. This can happen at a left-turn red-light and when least expected, having disastrous results. Transmission failure from over-pressurization already led to trans fluid being expelled from dipstick tube onto engine manifold resulting in an engine fire. Owner was easily able to replicate the problem by sitting in drive for 7-8 minutes & then attempting to accelerate. Videotaped evidence shows the trans is at normal operating temp, yet tachometer is shooting up to 25,000rpm's & car only creeps forward. At that moment smoke began pouring out from under the vehicle as once again fluid was being expelled onto manifold. Only this time owner did not open the hood so the lack of influx of fresh O2 did not ignite fluid like it did the first time. Vehicle is under 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty & Jeep dealer entered diagnosis and request to "replace transmission, cooler, O2 sensor, & wiring harness" which fca USA, llc rejected. Fca rrefuses to say why. Dealer has held vehicle now for 2months & 2weeks while dealer tries to convince fca to replace defective drivetrain. Fca refuses to supply written documentation of why claim is being rejected. Fca sent out a "special investigator" (for fires) who without meeting the service mgr or authorized drivetrain tech, serve determines it is not under warranty. Yet he knows nothing of transmisisons & spoke to no one at dealer about their diagnosis and issue. Vehicle is unsafe as it will fail to accelerate without notice at anytime & continued exposure to over-pressurized transmission and expelled trans fluid could result in fire.

When driving vehicle on a cold morning after leaving house and stopping about 1/2 mile from home. The transmission failed to downshift to first and remained in 7th gear. When attempted to proceed from stoplight the vehicle bogged and would hardly move and the check engine light came on. At this point the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road turned off and restarted and the transmission shifted with the check engine light remaining on. The vehicle was returned home and three hours later the check engine light was off when the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer said there was no code for the check engine light or transmission issue when it was checked at 11:00 am that day.
I have owned a new 2014 Grand Cherokee limited v6 for six months and have experienced rough shifting with my transmission from day 1. The transmission is especially rough when cold and/or shifting from 1->2->3 and 2->1 downshifts. I have brought it in to Jeep numerous times for a fix, the dealer recognizes that the transmission is not shifting smooth or correct, but says until there's a fix or update from Jeep, there's nothing that can be done. It is very frustrating to spend $45k on a new vehicle that has "jerky" transmission shifting, to the point where I cannot use my vehicle with business clients due to the harsh ride. I've been on multiple Jeep forums and based on the number of postings about this issue, the discontent is widespread among Jeep owners and fans. With the issue getting worse over time, I'm concerned my transmission will fail and become a serious safety issue.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at approximately 25 mph, the transmission failed without warning. The failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where a module was ordered in order to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,500.
S10 appropriate handling- letter to the secretary from constituent re copy of a letter to fiat Chrysler chief executive officer sergio marchionne regarding a Jeep cherokee safety recall. For months the parts were not available for recall #14v643000. In November 2014, the consumer was able to get one of the recalls rectified only because someone did not show up for the appointment. Also, the consumer experienced a catastrophic transmission failure. Updated 08/03/15.

The failure mileage was 130,000.

8/8/12 driving from temple TX to tunica ms (stopping there before continuing on to indianapolis, in). Car gave no issues/indications of trouble. 8/9/12 car would barely go 10 miles per hour leaving the hotel, would stop forward progress of any kind if I stopped, had to put in park, turn off car and turn on again. Had to cross 4 lane highway, but could not get car to move forward fast enough to clear all 4 lanes and middle divider. Took it in 2 green light tries and pulled into gas station (1/2 mile from hotel), gave car a rest, filled gas and same problem when started again. Had to call tow truck and bring to local Jeep dealer, 7 hours waiting at dealer to be told we had an early major transmission failure and it would be 8/13 before it would be ready. Rented a car to continue our vacation. $3,934. 73, transmission repaired, failure occurred at 41,138 miles, Chrysler admits it is an early failure (and states we are out of all warranties), ms dealer states early failure and powertrain should be covered, contact Chrysler when we get home and local dealer here states 5/50000 on powertrain. Chrysler refuses to reimburse more than $1500 which we have not accepted and refuses to acknowledge 5 year/50,000 mile power train warranty. Had this failed while driving at highway speeds it could have caused an accident for ourselves and others. Chrysler has not called to this day the repair dealership to understand why the transmission failure occurred. We were told the oil had burnt by the dealership? there was plenty of transmission fluid, it was just burnt. We are writing to you to bring this potential safety issue with early transmission failure to your attention and to ask what exactly is the NHTSA/dot regulations regarding power train coverage/failures and what recourse we may have. Thank you for any information you can provide.

The contact owns a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the driver side door suddenly became unsecured. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The front passenger side door also experienced the exact failure. In addition, while parked on an incline, the vehicle would erroneously move down the incline. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed that the parking function within the transmission failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that while driving, the interior headliner would become unsecured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Transmission fails at highway speeds. Dashboard says its in drive but when you rev the engine its in neutral. I had to coast off the highway and restart the engine. It worked fine, but isn't it dangerous losing power in the middle of the highway with tractor trailers coming at you at full speed from behind? this isn't the first time it has happened. It happened many times before.
I own a 2005 Jeep, Grand Cherokee with 39,000 miles. I was driving the vehicle when suddenly I had total transmission failure. The vehicle would not move when applying the gas. I coasted the vehicle off to the side of the rode and applied the brakes to stop the vehicle. I put the vehicle into park and got off the brakes and the vehicle began to roll forward. I had to apply the emergency brakes to stop the vehicle from rolling even though it was in park. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership for diagnosis.
The dash board computer fails twice and information panel says brakes failing. Also transmission failure leading to sudden deacceleration from 40 to 20 mph and rpm shot up from 2 to 6.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4. The transmission failed at a busy intersection with wife and two children aboard in November 2006. The dealership had to call chhrysler prior to ordering parts because Chrysler had a hold"on the parts needed to make the repair. The hold placed on the parts was due to the fact Chrysler knew there was a problem with the transmission and wanted to make sure the dealership fixed the problem correctly. Since that time, the Jeep's "new" transmission hesitates when climbing hills, accelerating etc. I have taken the Jeep back to the dealership to have this problem corrected. The dealership and Chrysler have acknowledged the problem with the automobile. Chrysler described the problem to the dealership as "fish nipping at bait". Chrysler's technical team tells the dealership they are working on a new computer program to fix this problem. It has now been 2 months since the diagnosis, and who knows how long since Chrysler has been aware of the problem and I still am driving, and paying for, a vehicle that the manufacturer knows is faulty. In addition, I have not been able to receive any satisfaction by calling Chrysler's numerous 1-800 numbers. All I have been told is that the appropriate parties have been contacted. Who those are I do not know and they would not tell me! my dealership and chryslers technical team have already been in contact and they are aware of the problem! I have been told that the defect the Jeep is experiencing will not harm the automobile. I have not once been concerned with the effect the defect has on the automobile but I have been concerned with the effect it has on my wife and I when driving the automobile. I want to know what Chrysler plans on doing about selling me a vehicle that has not worked properly for the majority of time I have owned it! their lack of concern regarding their product and the safety of those who drive their product is appalling.
I bought a new 2005 Jeep cherokee and began having problems one year after I bought it. I had multiple problems with the car not starting , but itwas not the battery. Took it to the galeana dealership to get it fixed 5 times and they could not duplicate the problem, and eventually told me there was nothing they could do even though they knew the problem still existed because I videotaped several of the occurrences. The vehicle left me stranded everywhere. Then, the transmission failed , and the car almost caught on fire with me and my two children in it. We had to replace the entire transmission at 22,000 miles.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with heated seat issue. Consumer states that the vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times for the heated seat problem. She also states that there is a wire or rod poking through the driver seat. The consumer also stated the transmission failed, there was a problem with the power steering, the blend doors in the heating system, the passenger side window fell down in to the door panel, and the hood struts failed. The consumer stated the heated seat issue had been recalled. The engine light illuminated and it was determined that the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 30 mph or greater, the vehicle hesitated when shifted into gear. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. Nhtsa recall # 05v396000 (power train:automatic transmission) was found. The recall work was performed. The contact stated that there was total transmission failure after the recall repair. The current mileage is 30,547 and failure mileage was 500.
The date below reflects the third time this has occurred. My vehicle has still not repaired to date(4-30-04). The vehicle transmission fails and the vehicle simply fails. After a transmission change it failed again fortunately nobody was harmed. However the company will not replace the vehicle but instead is installing are built transmission. It must be noted that the first incident occurred (approximate mileage) 4,700, second occurrence 5,000, third 5,600. I purchased the vehicle new I am the only owner and driver. This vehicle/ and the company imposes a dangerous, and defective vehicle on both myself and fellow motorist.

I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo in August 2000. Yesterday, my transmission failed and would jerk when shifted into reverse. Today, I contacted the dealership and was basically told "too bad," because my warranty was expired. I asked to speak to the gentleman that sold me the Jeep, was placed on hold for several minutes and then transferred to someone else's voice mail. My Jeep is 3 years old and has 60,000 miles on it (transmission failure!!!--I've had vehicles for 10 years with no transmission problems and three times as many miles). The business manager stated that she had seen vehicles with 3,000 miles on them fail (better watch out). The estimated cost to fix the transmission $1650. I purchased this vehicle new for reliable transportation and have had problems ever since. I have also had problems with the brakes and had to get the front rotors replaced as they were warped. My back windshield wiper hesitates before starting. It is sometimes hard to start and that has been happening since shortly after purchase. Staff at the dealerships are rude and unresponsive when notified of problems. Staff at the dealership informed me that repairs on my Jeep for a wiring problem would take 3 days, and they ordered the wrong parts and kept my Jeep for over 2 weeks (and then I had to take it back the next day due to wiring problems). I also hope Chrysler is aware that they have just lost a loyal Jeep owner/fan. I will never purchase another Jeep and will certainly not recommend it to anyone. I can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap.

When you step on the gas it takes 5-10 seconds for the transmission to kick in. Then it bucks into gear. When sitting idle, the transmission feels like it will stall. Our mechanic told us that the transmission is failing and needed to be replaced. At this time, our Grand Cherokee is dead. We can not believe this is the second Grand Cherokee we have owned and the transmission had failed. We got rid of our '95 Grand Cherokee because the transmission kept hesitating, the dealer could never seem to find anything wrong, of course. We knew this car was a lemon and got the dealer to get us into a brand new Grand Cherokee (1997). Now 5 1/2 years later this car's transmission has failed. Jeep needs to step up to the plate and get these cars fixed!.
